sot- i smelled gasaround 10am on the 3900 hundred block of mission street near the glen park neighborhood there was a strong smell of gas. residnece around here called 911 and pg&e who both sent crewschief hail sffd - division 38 people live in the home as renters where the explosion took place.no one was home at the time.. there were no injuriesjuan lives near by he told me what about a dozen people out here said about the explosion.. that it sounded more like a car accidentsot juan - neighborit took pg&e between 2 and three hours to shut off the main valve that was feeding the gas leak.this concerned nearby residence who were potentially breathing that gas for hours.. also that leak could have turned into a fire with the wrong spark. here is their explanation for why it took so longsot - andrea menniti / pg&e spokesperson

(vicki) new tonight at five... the four victims killed in a deadly hit and run crash have now been identified. this comes as c-h-p officers have arrested sacramento resident fred lowe in connection with that crash. this is video from the scene on saturday night. six people were also injured in that crash. the 47-year old is being held in contra costa county jail for multiple counts of felony hit and run, d-u-i, and driving on a suspended license.(grant) two of the victims identified are from napa... and two are from washington state. they are family friends who just finished playing in a father-son basketball tournament. (vicki) also in the car was a 21-year-old cal baseball player. he was injured, but survived. tonight, kron four's terisa estacio is in napa where she spoke with family and friends who are grieving.

thanksgiving weekend on the roads. there were nine deadly crashes in the bay area between wednesday and sunday night. in total-- twelve people lost their lives. six of those killed were not wearing their seat belts. c-h-p officers also arrested more than 180 people for driving under the influence. in one of the crashes... a man was killed after his van fell into the waters of the oakland estuary yesterday morning. he has been identified as 68-year-old paul scherer from alameda. rescue crews had a tough time finding the car. they used sonar devices to eventually locate the car and victim. and in emeryville-- a 10-year-old girl was killed in a crash on east-bound interstate 80 near the powell street exit. it happened yesterday morning when a white ford s-u-v was speeding in the wet weather and lost control--- crashing into another car. the girl has been identified as crystal vasquez of san francisco.

two other people were injured in the crash. meanwhile, one person died in a car crash in mountain view. this one was along highway 101 near the ellis street off-ramp. the c-h-p says a car cut off a black honda. the driver of the black honda lost control of his car... hit a fence and rolled over. in the north bay... one person died after a car rolled over along highway 101 in sausalito. that crash was yesterday morning on the southbound side near spencer avenue. investigators say the victim was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected when his car went up the embankment and overturned. and lastly--- in san mateo...no deaths here...but áseven teenagers were injured in a single car crash on saturday night. three of them - who were not wearing seatbelts - were ejected from the car... including a 15-year old who was riding in the back cargo area of the s-u-v. c-h-p says the teens were in a toyota 4 runner when the driver lost control and overturned on eastbound highway 92 at de anza boulevard. the driver suffered minor injuries... and the rest of the teens have

major injuries. , (vicki) another side show in the bay area. this time - in emeryville. these are pictures of the scene... it happened on saturday night on 40th street... in the target parking lot. officers spotted over 100 cars and 500 people. police say there was a hit-and-run on shellmond street related to the sideshow. there were also reports of gunfire. police say the sound was just fireworks. no arrests have been made. (grant) another day without a verdict in the kate steinle murder trial. 12 men and women started deliberating the case last tuesday.(vicki) they are working towards deciding the future of the man who has admitted to handling the gun that fired the fatal shot back in 2015. kron4's maureen kelly joins us live from the hall of justice with the latest. jose garcia zarate, seen here in an eariler court appearance is charged with murder, but they jury has the option of first degree or second degree

murder, as well as involuntary manslaughter. he's also charged with being a felon in possession of a gun, and assault with the semi automatic pistol. his lawyer says garcia zarate should be found not guilty on all counts since his theory is that garcia zarate didn't know that he was holding a gun when he found a rag covered object on the pier that day. he says the weapon went off accidently when his client picked it up. the prosecution maintains it was an intentional shooting, that garcia zarate could have smuggled the gun onto the pier. in her closing arguments the prosecutor says garcia zarate was playing his own secret game of russian

roulette. she showed the jury how he could have smuggled the weapon onto the pier in the clothing he was wearing when he was arrested.i talked to defense attorney brian ford who says it shouldn't be a surprise that the jury hasn't come back in with a verdict yet, especially since they only had two half days of deliberation last week. especially when a trial is this long and there are so many pieces of evidence to consider, just even the instructions themselves are several hours of reading so in the first two half days the jury had the verdict they were probably just sorting out the basics, what the instructions were electing a foreperson, they may have started looking at some of the evidence last week but today was probably the first day they really got to get into it(maureen)he says with a case of this magnitude, he says it could take the jury a couple of weeks before reaching their decision. maureen kelly kron4 news. (grant) a man was seriously injured when two groups began fighting in the tenderloin neighborhood. the fight erupted around 1:15 yesterday morning on eddy street near larkin street. police say people were armed with a variety of weapons... including baseball bats and machetes. during the fight... a man was shot. he was taken to the hospiral with life-threatening injuries. the shooter was last seen running down eddy street... police have not released a suspect description. (grant) a man is recovering... after being stabbed in san francisco's bayview district. it happened on thanksgiving...a round two a-m on gilman avenue near hawes street. police say the 50-year-old victim got into a fight with the 26- year-old man. the man stabbed the victim in the chest... and took off in a car.

over levi's stadium in santa clara and the coliseum in oakland.(vicki) police arrested 55-year-old michael mapes of sacramento police say mapes flew the drone over levi's stadium during the second quarter of the 49ers seahawaks game yesterday. he then went to oakland to fly over the raiders game there. (grant) the leaflets contained information on news organizations he disapproves of. federal and local laws prohibit drone flights near nfl games because of safety and security concerns. (vicki) facebook is starting to use artificial intelligence to try to prevent suicide online. three weeks ago while at court in palo alto. an undercover operation by u-s marshals at fairmont inn in san leandro finally put bivins back into custody after he slipped out of the courthouse. "people over there told me, 'oh, there's two cops outside,' and i was like, 'okay,' and then i came back and i realized there was one in my parking lot but they were undercover." authorities say someone other than bivins checked into room 2-0-4 saturday afternoon. the marshals came to the motel a few hours later asking about the escaped con. the following morning, they saw bivins leave the motel room, and arrested him. morning. the defense team and the prosecutor were seen going back and forth from the courtroom all day.the jury has had the case since last tuesday, but they only had two half days of deliberation because of the thanksgiving holiday.they've got weeks of testimonly to hash out, witnesses and evidence from the prosecution who maintains the killing of kate steinle was intentional. she says the accused, jose garcia zarate, was engaged in a secret game of russian roulette.the defense says it was an accident and that his client didn't even know he was holding a gun on the pier that day when it fired.i talked to a defense attorney who says he's not surprsed that the jury hasn't come back with a verdict yet.(brian ford)garcia zarate could be sentenced to up to 25 years to life if found guilty of first degree murder, 15 years to life for murder 2 and up to 4 years for involuntary manslaugther .but any verdict has to be unanimous.maureen kelly kron4 news

san jose police are on the hunt for the man who shot and killed another man over the weekend. it happened around 4:30- sunday morning... on ringwood avenue near concourse drive. police responded to a report of a person being shot behind a building. when officers arrived... they found a man suffering from at least one gun shot wound. authorities say the man was

taken to the hospital where he was prounounced dead. police have yet to determine the motive for the shooting. the identity of the man killed has not been released. (steve) the second of two santa clara county fugitives is back in custody. john bivins and tramel mcclough (mc- cloo) escaped almost three weeks ago while at court in palo alto. bivens was captured yesterday at the fairmont inn in san leandro. it was part of an undercover operation by u-s marshalls. authorities say someone other than bivins checked into room 2-0-4 saturday afternoon. the marshals came to the motel a few hours later asking about the escaped con. the following morning, they saw bivins leave the motel room, and arrested him. bivens and mcclough escaped from a palo alto courthouse earlier this month. is facing allegations of sexual asssault from more than 180 woman over the last 15 - years. that is according to a report from buzzfeed news. the chain has nearly 12- hundred locations across the nation... including some here in the bay area. the report found... that the company mishandled many of the claims. 'massage envy' does not force franchisees to notify police of sexual assault complaints, except when those reports are required by local laws. the company released a statement saying ... that even one incident is too many... and it is working to strengthen its policies.
