jury has been hashing out this case inside the hall of justice for close to20 hours so far. it's been a lot of long and anxious days for the gaggle of media who are waiting for them to come to a decision.it's both boring and nervewracking.the only action we see is the prosecutor and the defense team walking back and forth from the courtroom and when the jury goes to lunch.there's a lot for the jury to go over. there's been weeks of testimony.the proscecutor says jose garcia zarate was conducting a secret game of russian roulette.the defense calls the shooting death of kate stienle a tragic accident.the sticking points could be issues that the jury heard conflicting testimony on. that would include the trajectory of the bullet, which hit the pier before hitting steinle in the back. the proscecutor maintains garcia zarate was aiming in steinle's direction but pulled the trigger too soon.the defense says it was a freakish ricochet.(maureen)the jury went home just a half hour ago.they are expected back tomorrow at nine. maureen kelly kron4 news.

trump administration sanctions ... testing a new powerful ballistic missile able to reach most of the united states. the u=s, japan and south korea have asked for an emergency meeting of the u=n security council.(steve)north korea, ending a ten=week pause in its missile tests.catherine heenan is here with what might happen next, catherine? (catherine)the economic sanctions keep getting tighter. the north koreans keep testing bigger nuclear weapons and more powerful missiles. the leader that president trump derided as "rocket boy" may be just months away from being able to launch a nuclear attack on the u=s. natin north korea, 2017 has been the year of the missile. 22 launches in 15 separate tests since february.this one at three=fifteen in the morning, the first nighttime test since february.the 53=minute flight soared 25=hundred miles into space, landing 620 miles away, off the coast of japan. ... the missile's range would top 8=thousand miles, enough to reach most of the u=s.thet reminded the united states, reminded japan they have been quite earnest in increasing the range and the characteristics of the missile force, while firing off missiles at an unprecedented rate, the north korean's also tested a massive hydrogen bomb in september, fine=tuned their rocket fuels and engines, and honing their guidance systems. u=s defense officials believe kim jong un could be able to achieve his nuclear dream as soon as next year.the one thing they could do to demonstrate an end to end nuclear capability is to put an actual nuclear weapon on top of a missile and fire it off into the pacific and actually detonate it. the problems still needing work: miniaturizing the warhead ... and making sure the warhead is able to get through the atmospere without burning up. this week hawaii's emergency management agency will hold its first nuclear alert test since the end of the cold war ... the public service announcement tried to soften the alarming news with a soothing backing track of hawaiian music, natthe attack warning advises everyone to take shelter, get inside, stay inside, stay tuned.
5:22 pm
(catherine) it would take a north korean missile about 20 minutes to reach the island.defense officials say about five minutes of that time would be spent identifying the threat, meaning hawaiians would have only about 15 minutes to find shelter. vicki and steve? (vicki) in national news tonight-- president trump visits capitol hill in an effort to push the republican tax reform plan across the finish line. (steve) omar jimenez reports from washington on the state of play of the republican tax reform plan. a crucial final stretch for tax reform on capitol hill. sen. mitch mcconnell / -r- senate majority leader: it's a challenging exercise. think of sitting there with a rubix cube, trying to get to 50 and we do have a few members who have concerns and we're trying to address them. it's why president trump's meeting g.o.p. senators at their weekly closed-door policy lunch tuesday, trying to get what would be a much needed legislative win, over the finish line.sen. orrin hatch / -r- utah: it's an important time for our country. we've come a long way on the finance committee to get this far and i believe we're going to be successful.senate majority leader mitch mcconnell can only afford to lose two votes and at the moment there are some republican senators that have concerns about the plan for example, senator bob corker of tennessee has
5:36 pm
expressed concerns about increased deficits this plan would create but has indicated he will likely vote for the plan.sen. bob corker / -r- tennessee: i was able to work out something that is fairly satisfying to me just a few minutes ago.as the legislative calendar slowly begins to wind down for the year, the pressure to get tax reform done before 2018 is as high as ever.sen. lindsey graham / -r- south carolina: if it doesn't do what i think it will do, then we will lose, so we're going to rise and fall on how this affects the american people.the senate bill now heads to the floor for a vote and if it passes, it would still need to be reconciled with the notably different house version before making it to the president's desk.in washington i'm omar jimenez. (timothee corrects his pronunciation) "'laissez-faire.' 'laissez-faire.'""listen, here we say 'laissez-faire.'" (nat- laughter)there, guadagnino didn't cast a film as much as he created a family, according to co-star michael stuhlbarg. "i mean he cast us in these parts. but we all seem to just love what we got to do, where we got to do it, and celebrated the opportunity by giving our hearts to it. and i think a lot of that comes through in the film that luca has shaped."guadagnino says he was confident his stars could pull off the movie's slow-burn relationship."i made them aware that i had complete trust in them, and i wanted them to have complete trust in me, so they could relax and let it go.""call me by your name, and i'll call you by mine."in hollywood, i'm david daniel.
