second vehicle, a gold colored suv, was also seen in the area. a short time later, police spotted the white van and the suv traveling together in san francisco's bayview district. sfpd sgt. michael andraychak explains what happened next.one group of officers stope the gold suv and multiple suspects were detained. the suspect in the white lottery van continued into the alice griffith housing projects. the suspect exited the vehicle and an officer involve shooting occurred. that suspect was transported to san francisco general where he was pronounced deceased.police says that no officers were injured in this shooting but it's unclear what may have motivated them to use deadly force against the driver of the stolen van. the officers involved in the shooting were wearing body cameras at the time. sfpd says those cameras have been secured and the video will be reviewed by investigators. as with any officers involved shooting, multiple investigations have now begun.so far, the identities of those involved have not been released. nor is it clear yet what. . if any. . .charges the men who were detained may be facing.

(grant) a big story we continue to follow tonight--- the man accused of intentionally killing kate steinle on pier 14 in san francisco has been found not guilty of murder. now-- we are learning that the justice department is considering bringing federal charges against jose garcia zarate. (vicki) garcia zarate was on trial for firing the handgun that killed steinle-- sparking a national immigration debate. he had been deported five times and was wanted for a sixth deportation when steinle was shot and killed in the back. garcia zarate said the shooting was an accident. (grant) now there are

questions about what is next for the man at the center of this firestorm. kron4's maureen kelly is at the hall of justice with the new information. i'm outside the san francisco county jail where jose garcia zarate remains in custody for now. since he was aquitted of the most serious charges related to the death of kate steinle he will likely be released from here sometime after his sentencing for the one crime he was convicted of. being a felon in possession of a firearm.garcia zarate, seen here in an eariler court appearance will be back in court on december 14. he faces anywhere from 16 months to three years in state prison on the one count the jury found him guilty of.on that charge you were served roughly half that timepublic defender jeff adachi says garcia zarate has been in county jail for roughly two and half years since he was arrested on suspecison of murdering kate steinle on pier 14 that day back in 2015..which means he has credit for time served. it's likely that he will be released from san francisco custody on december 14 but that doesn't mean he's a free man. this time there is a federal warrant for garcia zarate's arrest for probation violationthat was issued

right after the killing of kate steinle. now there are reports that that the u.s. attorney general's office is looking at every option to prosecute jose ines garcia zarate "to the fullest extent available under the law."san francisco's sanctuary city policy allows law enforcment to coorperate with the feds when they have a warrant.whic h means this time around.garci a zarate will be handed over to the us marshall's on the day of his release from custody this time around. and ice vows that he will ultimately be deported. maureen kelly kron4 news (grant) among those angry about the verdict in the zarate case -- top immigrationofficials and president donald trump... one year since the deadly ghost ship fire in oakland-- bringing back painful memories for victims' loved ones. 36 people were killed when the fire broke out on december 2nd, 2016. it happened at a warehouse that had been illegally transformed into a cluttered living space for artists... no fire alarms and no sprinklers. the fire started at a friday night dance party. two men have been charged with 36-counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection to the fire... prosecutors saying the reckless actions of derick almena and max harris...caused the fire. almena was the master tenant but was not at the warehouse when the fire started. harris is the person who prosecutors say hosted the party the night of the fire. the city of oakland has also faced backlash for a series of failures related to fire inspections. coming up tonight at six-- we will take a closer look at what the city of oakland has done over the last year to make sure a tragedy like the warehouse fire-- never happens again. a popular restaurant is now reopened after there was evidence of a rat infestation. it happened at the "new lim's garden" restaurant on clayton road in concord. the health department says they saw several rat droppings in the kitchen... several of them were next to the grill. in total-there were 18 health violations. the restaurant was closed on tuesday so workers could clean and sanitize the restaurant. they also sealed all areas where rats could get in. the restaurant reopened wednesday afternoon. (vicki) a mob of more than ten men attacked a man thursday morning in san francisco. it happened just before 6 a-m in the area of potrero avenue and 24th street. the mob of men stabbed the 37-year old victim repeatedly. police are not certain what type of weapons were used in the attack, other than they were sharp objects. the victim was taken to the hospital with life- threatening injuries. (grant) after several illegal sideshows in they bay area... police in fremont say they have seized a car in connection to one of those sideshows. it happened on

november 12th and 13th. this is video of other sideshows that have happened in the east bay. in one incident, investigators say the side show surrounded a patrol car and damaged that car while spinning donuts. the car was found in san jose. police in several east bay cities say they will be stepping up patrols in an effort to stop future sideshows. (grant) fremont police are on the hunt for a man they say a stole landscaper's truck wednesday. it happened around 2:45 p-m on caren street near irvington avenue. police say the landscaper was working when a man walked up to him... asking for water. the landscaper gave the man a water... and continued to work. take a look at this picture of the man taken from surveillance video. police say the man slapped the landscaper with a glove... and got into his grey toyota

tacoma. after a brief struggle the man drove off in the truck. the man is described as a hispanic male in his late twenties wearing a checkered shirt and brown pants. (vicki) a building fire in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood left one person injured, and displaced 37 others thursday night. firefighters responded just after 7 p-m to the fire on o- farrell street. they were able to bring the fire under control about an hour later. the american red cross will activate an emergency shelter with the human services agency to aid those displaced at the gene friend recreation center in san francisco. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. trump campaigner ... and behind the scenes, a secret conduit to the kremlin. weeks before president trump took office, flynn was meeting privately with russian ambassador sergey kislyak . on december 22 he asked the ambassador to postpone a united nations vote on israel. when president obama imposed sanctions in reponse to russian election meddling, he asked the ambassador not to retaliate. request granted the next day, these conversations were monitored by the fbi, four days after trump took office, they asked him about them. flynn lied ... and two days later, then=attorney general sally yates warned the president about the lie. the president fired her for failing to enforce his initial travel ban, then flynn quit, admitting he had misled vice president mike pence about his russian contacts. the response from the white house counsel: "nothing about the guilty plea for the charge implicates the white house." however, court documents indicate flynn was not operating alone ,,, reporting to a senior member of the trump transition team. cnn and the ap indentify that point person as jared kushner, the president's son in law. california

thomas. both were found in the coffey park area of santa rosa. d-n-a analaysis was used to identify their remains. 24 people died in sonoma county during the firestorm. a total of 44 people were killed in all of the northern california wildfires. affect the way your brain works. researchers in south korea say the brains of teens addicted to smartphones have significantly higher levels of a neurotransmitter called "gaba." "gaba" slows down neurons in the brain which can result in a diminished capability to focus. researchers say 12 of the 19 addicted teens received cognitive behavioral therapy... after nine weeks their "gaba" levels had normalized. the u-s senate is seeking to approve a sweeping tax plan --- reducing taxes for businesses and most people. (grant) it also ends various deductions written into the tax code. washington correspondent drew petrimoulx has more on the controversial legislation. it's the most sweeping tax overhaul in three decades. republicans say it will jumpstart the economy by lowering taxes paid by businesses.sen john thune, r-sd:"creating jobs you get competition for labor, competition for labor increases the price of labor, when the price of labor goes up companies have to pay higher wages."the bill also reduces income tax rates for most individuals. republican say the bill makes the system more fair by eliminating tax loopholes that benefit the well connected. sen thom tillis, r-nc:"a bold, big idea

(catherine) when it comes to your political leanings....a new study says you are what you drive.in other words -- your car might reveal who you voted for... stanford researchers used a computer algorithm to determine whether a neighborhoodleaned to the left or the fight.....just by looking at the cars on 'google street view.' they

did it in 200 cities.... examples of their findings - when sedans outnumber pick-up trucks -- there was an 88 percent chance the city voted democratic. if there were more pick-ups -- there was an 82 percent chance they voted republican. volkswagens and aston martins were associated with white neighborhoods.. chryslers, buicks and oldsmobiles tended to appear in african-american neigborhoods.the researchers cross-checked their predictions against actual census bureau information. they're even suggesting this method could eventually replace more cumbersome government census studies....including going door-to-door. now doing an internal investigation into matt lauer's alleged sexual misconduct..(vicki) catherine heenan is here with the latest on the firing of the long-time news anchor.. (catherine) nbc bosses may be shaken by outside reports that many at the network, including co-anchors, 'did' know about lauer's alleged sexual misbehavior... both 'variety' and the new york times have been detailing disturbing allegations.. today the nbc news chairman says the company is launching an internal review....askinghow this was able to happen... andy lack says a team has started what he called a 'timely review' - and says the findings will be shared and acted on. also today - a source is telling 'cnn money' that lauer will 'not be paid past his last day of work.' lauer's contract called for him to be paid tens of millions of dollars....but nbc does 'not' expect to pay- now that he's been fired.

the new york post has claimed that his lawyers had been trying to get him a 30-million dollar pay-out. grant and vicki? (grant) michigan's representative john conyers will be discussing possible resignation from his current position within the coming days.(grant) this comes after allegations of sexual misconduct struck the representative. conyers attorney, arnold reed, says the health of the 88-year-old politician will be the deciding factor not washington politicians. conyers is expected to meet with doctors soon. (vicki) american airlines is initiating mandatory anti-racism training for its staff. the training comes after the n-double-a-c-p issued a "travel advisory" for the carrier in october. the airline says annual training will become mandatory starting next year... offered both in-person and online. the n-double-a-c-p has warned african americans to be cautious when when flying on american... citing examples of black fliers being forced to give up

(grant) just in time for the holiday season... caltrain is unveiling it's annual holiday train in san francisco. kron4's lydia pantazes has a closer look. this is the cal train holiday train!this train will be making stops throughout the peninsula on saturday, december 2, and sunday, december 3.it's decorated with more than 70,000 glittering lights.the show-train will visit nine caltrain stations between san francisco and santa clara over the two nights, providing holiday entertainment and collecting donations of toys for the local toys for tots program and the salvation army toy drive.for more information visit;holiday-train.org reporting in san francisco lydia pantazes kron4 news.

(vicki) hershey is unwrapping a new candy bar for the first time in twenty-two years. hershey's gold is on sale for the first time today. the bar is named for the amber color that comes from its main ingredient: caramelized creme. it also includes peanut and pretzel bits -- but no chocolate. hershey says the new bar is a response to the popularity of crunchy multi-textured candy. the last time hershey introduced a new candy bar was in 19-95, when it launched hershey's cookies and creme. focused on the shooting .... garcia- zarate's undocumented immigration status was not allowed as a factor for consideration by the jury. kron four's maureen kelly explains .. what comes next for garcia- zarate. kate steinle would still be alive if the san francisco sheriff just turned over jose garcia zarate after he was released from san francisco county jail back in 2015..at least that's the position of the deputy director of the us immigration and customs enforcement..who now vows to deport garcia zarate this time around.that news came in a statement released shortly after undocumented immigrant was aquited of killing the 32 year old pleasanton native. the jury found him only guilty of being a felon in possesion of a firearm. he will be sentenced december 14th.but the maximum sentence for that crime is three years, and typically those convicted serve only half that. if you take into consideration that garcia zarate has been locked up for 2 and a half years

still in it's early stages but it appears that multiple people may have been involve in stealing this lottery van and then driving it to the bay view where they were confronted by police. according to the san francisco police department, around 1030 friday morning the driver of a white california lottery van was carjacked in the 1800 block of 23rd street. the female driver of the van was assaulted and sustained non life threatening injuries. a second vehicle, a gold colored suv, was also seen in the area. a short time later, police spotted the white van and the suv traveling together in san francisco's bayview district. sfpd sgt. michael andraychak explains what happened next.sotone group of officers stope the gold suv and multiple suspects were detained. the suspect in the white lottery van continued into the alice griffith housing projects. the suspect exited the vehicle and an officer involve shooting occurred. that suspect was transported to san francisco general where he was pronounced deceased.police says that no officers were injured in this shooting but it's unclear what may have motivated them to use deadly force against the driver of the stolen van. the officers involved in the shooting were wearing body cameras at the time. sfpd says those cameras have been secured and the video will be reviewed by investigators. as with any officers involved shooting, multiple investigations have now begun.so far, the identities of those involved have not been released. nor is
