(robin@landing)now to our top story this morning ...caltrans says at least four toll booths on the bay bridge are closed. this .. after a suspected dui driver plowed into toll both number 14 on saturday ... killing the toll booth worker ... and destroying a section of the toll plaza.kron four's spencer blake has more. sunday afternoonthere was still no toll booth number 14 standing on the bay bridgeand caltrans crews were working on the site around the clock.this is the spot where si si han was collecting tolls when police say daniel burk crashed a box truck into five cars in line at the toll plaza, and ultimately flew into the booth, killing han instantly. "i say hi to her and she always smiles, and she's a real nice lady."neighbors in her san lorenzo neighborhood heard the news at different times - some of them from local news saturday, and others from us as we knocked on their doors."couple

sometimes walks at night so i haven't talked to them in person but they look familiar." a couple women told me si si was always dressed to the nines.she liked wearing dresses and heels.she leaves behind her husband ryan, and ten-year-old daughter ashly. neighbors often ran into han and her daughter on their walks to and from school."it's kind of sad because i have kids also and she don't have mom, and we've known them for more than ten years, probably." burke has been arrested on suspicion of d-u-i and manslaughter.he's in custody in a hospital, with his own major injuries, and could be there for a week after having surgery.as for the toll plaza, caltrans couldn't make any guarantee sunday afternoon that the repair work would be done in time for the monday morning commutemeaning there could be a few lanes on the right hand side out of the mix. on the bay bridge, spencer blake, kron four news. (robin)happening now ... ferry service is shut down between san francisco and sausalito.it will stay shut down all week. golden gate ferry is doing a major inspection of the oakland ferry landing. the inspections require full-day and half day shutdowns of all ferry operations to and from sausalito. today... tomorrow and wednesday... service will be fully shutdown. on thursday and friday... the first ferry leaves at 12:55 from san francisco. weekend ferry service will not be impacted. during the shutdown there will be added bus (robin)happening today ... there will be a preliminary hearing for two tenants charged with involuntary manslaughter in the ghost ship warehouse fire.(áááboxesááá) derick almena and max harris will face a judge in oakland for a hearing that is expected to last five days. almena

and harris are facing 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter in the ghost ship warehouse fire. 36 people died in that fire. the one year anniversary of the fire was on saturday over the weekend. witnesses are expected to testify all week. a judge will then decide if there is enough evidence to take the case to trial. (robin)in the east bay ... police are looking for a shooter who killed a man in antioch. it happened around 2 a-m yesterday morning on empire mine road near deer valley road. police found the victim in the roadway with gun shot wounds. he was pronounced dead at the scene. officals are still investigating the case. no arrests have been made. (robin)police have identified a man killed after a car crash in san leandro. 23-year-old jajuan morton ... from michigan ... died early yesterday morning. it happened just before 3:00 a-m on southbound 8-80. c-h-p says morton died after his car hit a pole. authorities have not released any additional information about

what led up to the crash. (robin)in the north bay. one person was killed after a hit-and-run crash in santa rosa. it happened at midnight yesterday on south route twelve ... east of warm springs road. officers found broken glass and windshield wipers at the scene. they believe the suspect's vehicle may have major windsheild damage. police are not releasing information about the suspect or victim at this time. (robin) a flood warning for coastal regions across the bay area. king tides expected through tuesday.that means tides possibly up to seven feet tall. kron 4's hermela aregawi explains why you should take caution. king tides re expected along bay area coasts as we start the week. meteorologist say.. they will reach their height in the mid to morning hours of monday and tuesday.scott spann i've been really warned about them especially when you are coming in the golden gate

there's a place there called the potatoe patch and it's un uplift of the geography of the floor of the ocean and so when you have this much fetch coming from japan all the way across and when you have that much wind and that much distance then the volume of water can really build up. steve schartoni always keep my eyes open on how they are breaking because don't be turning your back because that's when you get knocked off among areas affected.. coastal north bay including point reyes.. the san francsico peninsula as well as monterey bay and big sur coasts. officals recommend caution in low lying areas including parking lots, trails, side walks, underpasses and roadways.steve schartonyou just really gotta pay attention to what you are doing and just keep your eyes on how the waves are breaking because if you don't do that you will end up in the water. you are not going to outrun themscott spannyeah they are really something to pay attention to and they do sneak up on people (robin) an el sobrante

house fire has left a firefigher and a resident with injuries. the fire broke out just before five yesterday afternoon at a home on san pablo dam road. fire officials say it was under control by 5:30. the firefighter was treated at the scene by paramedics. (robin) check out this video sent to us by a kron4 viewer. take a look at those black smoke rising in to the sky. it is coming from a delivery truck caught on fire in san francisco. police say it happened yesterday near the corner of sixth and brannan streets. police say no buildings were damaged and no one was injured. the cause of the fire has not yet been released. (robin) brock turner is appealing his conviction for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on the stanford campus in 20-15. in the appeal filed friday, lawyers for the former stanford swimmer said the initial trial was "a details and lenghty set of lies." they're banking on a new trial overturning the lifetime

mandate placing turner on the sex offender registry. turner was convicted of three felony counts of sexual assault and served only 3 months of his 6 month jail sentence. (robin) a man from berkeley is under arrest this morning after attacking a bart train operator. it happened at the dublin- pleasanton station yesterday morning. police say the man pushed the train operator and then refused to get off the train. the man was taken to jail and is now prohibited from riding bart. this.... the supermoon seen from the international space station.nasa astronaut randy bresnik tweeted this view of the moon rising over mongolia last night.supermoons happen when the sun, moon and earth align, and a full or new moon aligns with the sun's lunar orb.this was the view from washington, d-c. supermoons tends to be brighter and appear to be larger than its usual size.two more will be visible in january. (robin) police are investigating a suspicious package that led to evacuations in oakland. saturday afternoon, a letter carrier discovered the device inside a u-s postal service mailbox. oakland police and fire departments were notified and responded to the scene. officals blocked all lanes on san pablo and stanford avenues. the alameda bomb squad also responded, and determined the device was safe. the evidence will be sent to the u-s postal service crime lab outside of washington d-c. (robin) three women are behind bars ... after they were arrested for having stolen credit cards and stolen mail. saturday night in sasalito ... police received

an alert from a license plate recognition camera ... about a stolen car.the car was found and they women inside were arrested. police confiscated burglary tools stolen mail stolen credit cars ... and illegal prescription medication from them. (robin) a big story we are following ...saturday marked one year since 36 people lost their lives in the ghost ship ware house fire. kron4's jeff pierce was at the memorial where he spoke to friends and family of those killed in the horrific blaze that night. friends and families of friends and families of those lost in the tragic ghost ship fire in oakland gathered at the site saturday to recognize their loss on the first anniversary of the tragedy. it's been one year, one year today that the ghost ship fire happened and it was very important for us to remember those that were lost.nat sound

musicthe grieving was still in evidence for those who came visit the place where they lost loved ones.it's so fitting now that we would hear the names of those 36 individuals.nameswe all grieving for the loss of sons, daughters, wives, brothers sisters that we lost.ed bernbaum who lost his son jonathon in the fire has begun vital art, a foundation that hopes to fund safe places to the arts community.the idea was to honor jonathan and other victims of the fire by providing safe and affordable live work and performance spaces for artists and musicians.while the ghost ship still remains a stark reminder of loss there is hope that it could become a monument to those who perished and perhaps to honor oakland's artist's culture.there's a great deal of interest from artists, developers, neighborhood organizations that would like to take this property over and convert this property into a museum, an artists museum and artist's demonstration of something.but saturday it was an event to remember a tragic loss.the ultimate goal here is to not to forget.in oakland jeff pierce kron four news.

(robin)in the north bay ... volunteers are determined not to let the fire storm destroy the holidays for people who lost everything. kron 4's ella sogomonian reports from glenn ellen where hundreds of people got a hot holiday meal over the weekend. a free holiday feast welcomed fire victims to the valley of the moon winery on saturday.a town of less than 800 people - glen ellen has become a community more tightly knit than ever after the nuns fire tore through this past october destroying almost 1 out of 5 homes.sot: nick brown, lost home to fire// "it has been an unexpected challenge but it's the people that have really been lifting me up. and when i'm on that roller coaster people bring me back up and it's been a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with people of our little town of glen ellen." the event was thrown by the glen ellen forum dedicated to reminding fire victims they're not alone especially during the holidays when they've lost so much, can't cook a meal themselves or might not have immediate family in the area.sot: leslie

(robin) a backpack give-away in marin county helped out victims of the north bay fires. on saturday "warm wishes" stuffed 5-thousand back packs for the homeless. they were given out to 40 different agencies in the bay area to distribute to those in need. this year, the packs also went to nor cal fire shelters. volunteers fill them with hats and gloves. and the packs for kids have something extra inside.

donations to help keep it a success. (robin) a woman is behind bars for snooping around homes in martinez ... where police say she was possibly looking for packages to steal. it happened friday on parkway drive in martinez. an alert citizen noticed the woman walking up to porches appearing as if she was looking for packages to steal. the suspect was contacted by officers while she was still in the area. she was arrested for identity theft and a probation violation. (robin) corte madera police arrested a man in connection with a home burglary. it happened around five p-m thursday on westward drive near paradise drive. authorities say duante hayes was knocking on front doors ... then going into the backyards. a woman directed police to her neighbors home... saying she saw hayes go into the backyard. there police found the backdoor shattered and the house in disarray. after a quick search... officers found hayes in a tree pretending to sleep. hayes was arrested for stealing and providing false identification. he

(robin) the victims of the north bay wildfires are still in need of so many necessities like housing and clothes. but there are priceless items that are overlooked. that's why a group of volunteers spent the weekend taking free, professional family portraits for families who lost everything. kron four's spencer blake has more. up at saint vincent de paul high school in petaluma to get free portrait sessionshardly have any surviving hard copies of family photos.they, like just about all of their other material posessions, burned up in the wildfires."extra special to me because it almost feels like there's two different eras of 'before the fire' and 'after the fire' and i think this is probably the first time mark of looking forward."phoenix photo project - or three p -- began just a couple weeks after the fire. asa mathat and his crew of 25 are giving these victims the star treatment - hair and makeup -- yes even for the men -- and several different photo poses, all for free. "it'll probably remind me of what i felt."they even had a therapy dog on hand!three-p plans on using the free portrait idea as its standard as it looks to expand to other areas nationwide whenever major natural disasters strike. "the fact is you've got something you can rebuild

from. you can look back at a photo and remember that time." nick flint and his wife say this is basically the first family outing they've had since the fires destroyed their home."it's very nice that somebody would take the time and the equipment and everybody involved with it to do something nice for somebody else."at the end of the day, every family walked away with a whole s-d card full of áall the digital imagesand will be able to pick up free prints of their favorite portrait at a local walmart."they've related with what happened, but we've put a lot of smiles on faces today." over the weekend.and now ... the g-o-p has to reconcile it with the tax plan passed by the house last month.john lorince reports. during the early hours of saturday, vice president mike pence made it official.mike pence/vice president"the tax cuts and jobs act, as amended, is passed."the bill passed the senate largely on party lines and opinions are split evenly. sen. mark warner/d-virginia"my single worst day as a u.s. senator."sen. mitch mcconnell/r-kentucky"we'll see how unpopular it is. when people start noticing they're paying less in taxes."the tax cuts and jobs act now must be reconciled with the tax bill the house passed in november. rick santorum/cnn contributor "this has been a done deal since health failed. there was just no way this congress was going to leave town by the end of this year without having passed this bill."there are some glaring differences between the respective bills passed by the house and senate. for example: most individual provisions expire in 2025 in the senate bill.most are permanent in the house bill. the senate version eliminates the mandate to purchase health

russia investigation." on "meet the press," feinstein said the evidence is coming partly from "tweets" from the white house. (robin) a trump tweet on saturday is coming underfire from critics who called it a possible admission of obstruction of justice. critics questioned whether trump knew that flynn had lied to the f-b-i, when he reportedly asked former director james comey to stop investigating flynn.since saturday ... the president's personal attorney revealed that he drafted the controversial tweet. (robin)in southern california ... a teenager admitted to molesting around 50 children since he was ten years old. joseph hayden boston turned

himself in to the riverside police department with his mother on saturday. police say the 18-year old admitted to molesting two boys ages 8 and 4 at a motel ... as well as 50 other children in cities where he previously lived. officals say boston was arrested on suspicion of two counts of oral copulation on a child under the age of 10. his bail is set at 1-million dollars. (robin)4 your money this morning. the average price of a gallon of gas has dropped seven cents nationally.this ... despite a jump in oil prices. the average gas price is currently two dollars and 54 cents nation wide. that is 34 cents above where it was a year ago. here in the bay area a gallon of gas in oakland is three dollars and 18 cents. and if you are in san jose the price slightly drops to three dollars and 15 cents a gallon. gas in san francisco.is the highest in the u-s at an average of three dollars and 26 cents a gallon. yesterday to help children in need across the bay area. a local foundation collected dozens of toys during their tailgate at the raiders game ... and will later be distributing them to a number of nonprofit organizations. the event was put on by silver n' black helping hand foundation and the idea is to get raider fans to give back to the community. fans brought all kinds of toys to the game while others helped by donating money. everyone that participated was invited to eat tacos and share a drink. this is the fourth year that silver n' black collected toys during a raiders game. ( darya ) authorities are now releasing the name of the man who was shot and killed by san francisco police. 42-year-old keita o-neil was killed after officers say he was involved in a carjacking. the shooting happened friday... near the corner of fitzgerald avenue and griffith street. police say o-neil stole a california lottery van and had assaulted the driver. the driver is expected to be okay. police say a second car was involved in the heist... and the people in that car were arrested. police say o-neil was killed after he got out of the van. investigators are now reviewing the police body-cam video from the shooting.

( james ) three women -- caught with stolen credit cards and mail... are now in jail. police got an alert from a licence plate recognition camera saturday night... about a stolen car. the three women inside were arrested. police found burglary tools... stolen mail... credit cars... and illegal prescription medication from the group. the women were arrested and booked into the marin county

( darya ) and take a look at this... a delivery truck caught on fire in san francisco... this is a picture sent in to us by a kron four viewer. police say the fire broke out yesterday near the corner of sixth and brannan streets. as you can see - there was a lot of no one was hurt. ( darya ) authorities are now releasing the name of the man who was shot and killed by san francisco police. 42-year-old keita o-neil was killed after officers say he was involved in a carjacking. the shooting happened friday... near the corner of fitzgerald avenue and griffith street. police say o-neil stole a california lottery van and had assaulted the driver. the driver is expected to be okay. police say a second car was involved in the heist... and the people in that car were arrested. police say o-neil was killed after he got out of the van.

investigators are now reviewing the cam video from the shooting. ( james ) police are searching for the man who injured a u-c berkeley student with a cane. it happened on campus. the attack was just off ellsworth street and durant avenue... near tang center. the man charged the student from behind... hitting the back of his head. the student will be okay. police have not released a description of the attacker. (james) happening today... ferry service will be shut down between san francisco and sausalito. golden gate ferry is doing a major inspection of the oakland ferry landing. the inspections require full-day and half day shutdowns of all ferry operations to and from sausalito. today... tomorrow and wednesday... service will be fully shutdown. on thursday and friday... the first ferry leaves at 12:55 from san francisco. weekend ferry service will not be impacted. during the shutdown there will be added bus service.

(darya) big story this morning. brock turner is appealing his conviction for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on the stanford campus in 20-15. lawyers for the former stanford swimmer said his trial was a -- quote -- lengthy set of lies. they want a new trial that would overturn the lifetime mandate placing turner on the sex offender registry. turner was convicted of three felony counts of sexual assault and served only 3 months of his 6 month jail sentence. ( darya ) in southern california ... a teenager has admitted to molesting around 50 children since he was ten

years old. joseph hayden boston went with his mother to turn himself in to the riverside police department saturday. police say the 18-year old admitted to molesting two boys ages 8 and 4 at a motel ... as well as 50 other children in cities where he previously lived. boston's bail is set at 1- million dollars. (james) a southwest airlines plane had to make an emergency landing late last night at l-a-x. the plane was heading from sacramento to orange county when there was a burning smell in the cabin. the plane landed safely and the passengers were able to get off the plane. southwest took the plane out of service while mechanics investigated the source of the burning smell. passengers were put on another flight. (james)in the north bay ... thousands lost everything when the firestorm destroyed their homes. but volunteers are determined to not let the holidays be

(james) the tax bill the senate passed this weekend also includes some sweeping changes to health care policy. the senate's bill would repeal the "individual mandate" that requires all americans to have health insurance. analysts say that would result in an estimated 13 million fewer people having insurance over the next 10 years. premiums would also rise 10 percent more per year than they would without this change. the bill would also trigger major cuts to medicare, eliminate tax breaks for interest paid on student loans, and elminate tax credits for pharmacutical companies to develop drugs to treat rare diseases. (james) meanwhile... senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says the senate's tax bill will ánot add to the nation's debt. the bill adds roughly one-trillion dollars to the deficit. mcconnell says he believes the tax overhaul will generate more than enough economic growth to cover that projection. mcconnell

( darya ) today... the two tenants charged with involuntary manslaughter in the ghost ship warehouse fire will be in court. the hearing for derick almena and max harris is expected to last five days. almena and harris are facing 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter -- that's one count for every victim. the one year anniversary of the fire was saturday. witnesses are expected to testify all week. a judge will then decide if there is enough evidence to take the case to trial. ( darya ) in the south bay... police are on the hunt for the gunman wanted in a deadly shooting. it happened saturday morning near east santa clara street and north 25th street in san jose. officers found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. the victim was taken to the hospital... where he later died. bay... a woman is behind bars... after martinez police say she was snooping around homes looking for packages to steal. it happened on parkway drive . an alert neighbor noticed the woman walking up to porches... so that neighbor called police. the woman was arrested for identity theft... and a probation violation. ( james ) and in concord... police arrested two suspected shoplifters... who almost got away. they were caught at the sun valley shopping center on concord boulevard. witnesses were able to give police a description of the thieves who they say were taking clothes and accessories. officers arrested kadeem hodge and tiana mayberry. police say they found stolen merchandise from several stores inside their case... along with a bag that was specially lined -- to stop security sensors from going off. (darya) authorities say kate steinle would still be alive if the san francisco sheriff had turned over jose garcia zarate. that is according to the deputy of immigration and customs enforcement. the deputy

director promises to deport garcia- zarate now that he has has been acquitted of killing steinle. the jury found him guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm. the maximum sentence he could get is three years. garcia-zarate's recently unsealed warrant shows his having a gun was in violation of his probation. (darya) it happened at the baylor university medical center at dallas. the mother had been told she would never be able to carry her own child.
