is good for your body and being stationary is bad. but as c-n-n's reporter kim hutcherson explains in this week's health minute... spending excessive amounts of time seated... can even erase
5:55 pm
some of the benefits of exercise. a growing body of research indicates that too much sitting can be harmful for your health, even if you exercise regularly.researches pooled results from more than 40 studies ... and concluded that the more time people spent on their backsides, the greater their risk of premature death, cardiovascular disease, cancer and type-two diabetes.regular exercise appears to mitigate some of the harmful effects of prolonged sitting, but not all. an analysis of more than a dozen studies found that at least 60 minutes a day of moderately intense exercise is needed to counter the risks associated with prolonged sitting.experts usually recommend about 30 minutes of daily exercise.but one study found that even these hour-long workouts don't reverse sitting's negative effects on insulin levels and blood fats.however, there are things you can do in addition to exercise to reduce your sitting time.at work, stand for a few minutes every half hour.if possible, use a desk that will let you work both standing and seated.park as far as possible from entrances so you will have to walk a little bit more.and don't just sit on the sofa when you're at home - do some chores or just stand periodically while watching tv.for today's health minute, i'm kim hutcherson. didn't seem to be feeling well...so they took her to the vet.(steve) that's where they were shocked to find out she swallowed...not five... not ten... but 21 pacifiers. reporter emily collins has more. an oklahoma family learned the hard way that some things turn up in the oddest of places after they took their dog to the veterinarian and learned she had swallowed 21 pacifiers. dr. chris rispoli has cared for 4-year-old shar-pei dovey since she was a pup, so when her owner brought her in to be examined wednesday, he was immediately concerned by how much weight the dog had lost in so little time."dad said grandma had seen her jump up on the counter and grab one of the baby's pacifiers, and they had been missing a lot of pacifiers," rispoli said.an x-ray revealed dovey knew exactly where those missing pacifiers were - in her stomach - a fact that left her family and even rispoli in disbelief."in 20 years, this is the craziest surgery i've ever done," rispoli said. "they were pretty stunned because we thought there were seven to nine in there, and i pulled out 21."rispoli says the unusual case comes with a simple reminder: "put things away.""don't leave them on the countertop," rispoli said.
