this is oakland marshall maria sabitini. on the stand, she explained how a team of more than a dozen fire investigators sifted through the debris looking for evidence to seek out the origin and cause of the deadly ghost ship fire. sabitini said upon analysis of burn patterns and the charred ceiling the orign was determined to be in the northwest bottom corner of the building. she said quote due to the excessive amount of flammable materials in the space, such as furniture used as room dividers, it lead to the significant spread of the fire." as for the heat source or cause, she said the team ruled out several refrigerators discovered in the living area. they also ruled out propane tanks and natural gas as an ingnitition

the district is trying to make-up for a nearly 8-million dollar shortfall in its budget. under the current proposal... students at bidwell elementary in south hayward would be transferred to treeview elementary school. and students at bowman elementary will be split up between harder... schafer park... and tyrell elementary schools. the district is also considering cutting teacher salaries and benefits... and cutting money for supplies. tonight's board meeting is set for 6:30. (vicki) and a school district in oakland is also voting on budget cuts tonight. teachers in oakland are rallying against what they call "morally wrong" cuts. the oakland unified school district is facing a potential shortfall of 15 million dollars...and the district is looking at broad cuts. the oakland education association is asking the district to limit the cuts to one point two million dollars. the meeting started about 30 minutes ago. (steve) in the penisula. three carjacking suspects are behind bars tonight...accused of crashing a car at a country club. authorities say c-h-p officers were involved in a pursuit that ended just before three this morning....when the suspects crashed a vehicle at the green hill country on ludeman lane in millbrae. sheriff's deputies responded to the scene...and searched for the suspects. the search lasted about 90 minutes until all three suspects...two women and one man...were found and taken into custody. their names have not been released. no one was injured.
