(robin)in our top story this morning ...the f-b-i cracked down on gangs in the east bay ... arresting 8 suspected gang members accused of violent crimes involving guns and murder.kron 4's teresa estacio has the details on operation "klap it out". diane becton, contra costa da. our office is announcing 8 people, gang members various mix of serious crimes committed in and around contra costa county and bay area.and these are pictures of the eight cuffed and confineds in jail currently. they referred to themselves as the klap it

out gang a reference to the sound of gunfire erupting. contra costa county district attorney diane becton peeling back the cover of a 16 month covert investigation.becton. we recovered hand guns, semi automatics.the entire case involved several different law enforcement agencies, including the fbi. pittsburg police captain brian addington spoke about how the group had terrorized his community including the murder of an innocent man last spring. brian addington, police chief pittsburg. man was gunned down for just standing there. this was a brazen act.while details about how the 8 were netted were get confidential pittsburg chief did elude to those cameras out on highway 4 helping out.addington. "yes. that technology played a role. they were not charged in any of the shootings, and that is all i will say.and take a look at this these are people still wanted in connection with cracking down on violent crimes. fbi san francsico special agent in charge john

bennet had a message and warning to those still out on the street looking to cause harm.john bennett fbi. 2018 we are still looking for you. we will get you those who are causing pain in our communities. in contra costa county, te (robin)investigators say video cameras installed along highway- 4 played a role in the arrests of a number of suspects for alleged gang- related activities.earlier this week it was announced that the camera network is about to be expanded along highway 4 and a section of interstate 80 in contra costa county. its called the freeway security network project ... and it will be a collaboration between multiple agencies ... with the city of pittsburg in charge of it all.

(robin)in other bay area news ... the berkeley police department is facing a major crisis: a staffing shortage. the department is suspending units, eliminating departments and desperately trying to keep officers on the force. hanging in a storage locker - are all the patrol bikes. the program got suspended in the fall. we asked the police chief andrew greenwood what does the staff shortage means for the community. (robin) the deparment is currently short 20 officers ... and even more cuts could be coming next year ... including the traffic unit and all motorcycle officers. chief andrew

(robin) another big story... republican lawmakers are now waiting for president donald trump to sign a landmark bill that overhauls the u-s tax system. in celebration of the bill's passage through both houses of congress ... trump said the package would fulfill his core campaign promise.this is the first major legislative achievement under the new administration. however ... not a single democrat in the house or the senate voted in favor of the tax bill.12- republicans in the house also voted against the measure. (robin)in reaction ... house minority leader and democrat nancy pelosi tweeted this out...saying quote ..."no hearing. no expert testimony. no listening to the american people. that has been the story of the "hash-tag" -gop tax scam." (robin)large corporations are offering holiday bonuses to workers to celebrate the passing of the g-o-p tax bill.

(áááboxesááá)a-t&-t is pledging to give one thousand dollar bonuses to more than 200-thousand employees who are not in management. comcast says it's also giving one thousand dollar checks to about 100-thousand employees. san francisco based wells fargo, boeing, and fifth third band also came out and said they'd be sharing the wealth ... passing tax savings on to their employees.the bonuses are expected to be delivered over the holidays if the bill is enacted by christmas.but it's still unclear when trump will sign. (robin) after a number of package thefts ... police used a decoy package on a porch in hayward ... to try and catch a suspect. and ... it worked. check out this surveillance video. the thief and his getaway driver stole an amazon box that had a tracking device inside. police pulled them over ... and found more stolen items in their car. now ... they're both behind bars this morning.

(robin)in redwood city ... police are asking for the community's help to find a package thief that was caught on camera. the theft happened in the redwood shores neighborhood. the resident's "ring" doorbell security camera captured video of the man taking the package from their door step. anyone who recognizes the thief is asked to contact the redwood city police. (robin)(ááásidebarááá) there are several ways you can prevent having your packages stolen.the palo alto police department posted several tips on its facebook page.they include having your package delievered to your job. ((reveal))you can also request that the shipper hold your package at their pick-up facility, so you can pick it up in person.((reveal)) or you can request a

(robin) christmas is just four days away! and today is one of the busiest days to travel at s-f-o. more than 174-thousand travelers are expected to pass through s-f-o today. we spoke to some travelers at the airport and they say they hope they make it to theirdestination without any problems.

(robin) now to a story you will only see on kron 4.it is being called the world's smallest pacemaker ... and it is changing the way some patients are being treated.as kron 4's hermela aregawi reports ... marin general is one of the first hospitals in the bay area to use the new technology. the biggest difference with this new method.. is that patients don't have to be opened up with an incision to have the device put in. and because of that.. doctors say.. the recovery is shorter and practically painless.this is a traditional pacemaker.dr. sujoya dey/director of electrophysiology, marin

perspective. nobody is looking at it nobody is seeing it. those things are different marin general began using the new device in july.. and have put it in about 8 patients so far. 79 year old john irvine is one of them,john irvine /new pacemaker patienti used to walk about two miles a day and i got to the point where i just couldn't do it anymore i could one room to the otherso in early november.. irvine came in for the procedure.it was a very simple procedure for me. i just morning and they laid me out here and next thing i know its over. and i went home without any difficulty in reovery..there (robin) still ahead on the kron four morning news... a violent home invasion for one south bay man.where police finally caught the armed robbers.

(robin)an update on a story we first broke yesterday morning on the kron 4 morning news. a man in los gatos woke up to find five people ransacking his home ... and then demanding his valuables. he was brutally beaten ... and landed in the hospital with a head injury. a regional auto theft task force recovered a car in modesto ... thought to have been stolen during the robbery. they had multiple people in custody ... and two weapons were recovered. the sheriff's office said the people in custody are being questioned in connection with the home invasion robbery. deputies are asking neighbors for surveillance video .. that might help with the investigation. (robin) the antioch police department is asking for the public's help in identifying a murder suspect from april. the victim was shot on k- street in antioch -- then later died from his injuries. police released this sketch of the suspect involved in the homicide. he is described as a white man in his mid- twenties to early- thirties with short hair. anyone with information related to the homicide.. is

(robin) the investigation into a deadly hit-and-run in san bruno has turned cold. its been one year ... and there are no firm clues to track down the person who took off from the scene. as kron 4's haaziq madyun reports ... the victim's family recently hired a private investigator to stay on top of the case. it has been a year since 29- year-old carly flynn was killed by a hit-and-run driver while she was crossing the street at the intersection of cherry ave and san bruno ave in san brunosot

it home">sothash house and brews restaurant is located at the corner where the hit-and-run occurred. the restaurant's manager says he says red light runners are pretty common to heat up the cold case mike flynn hired retired f.b.i. agent and current private investigator rick smithsotthat witness told investigators that a white s- u-v was possibly involved in the hit-and-run. carly flynn was hospitalized and died as a result of her injuries two days later.sot

scholarship to the university of tennessee.the young man says his inspiration is his mom who has been in and out of the hospital for most of his life.kron 4's j.r. stone has the story. sot people would tell you you're not gonna make it i've heard my whole life you're not that good you're not gonna make it you're stupid but i always believed in myself.and right now 19 year old jordan allen's haters are no where to be found. allen is a defensive end at city college san francisco. he attracted the attention of major college football programs across the county this year. but football isn't his only focus. his mother has been in and out of the hospital for most of his life due to kidney failure which led to an eventual kidney transplant.sot if she can go to work for 8 years on dialysis every day non stop then i can go to practice and go to class and get what i have to get done. and he has gotten things done.allen who was once at uc davis wanted more and believed he could do better, he left uc davis and took extra courses at city college while playing football. his hard work led to recruiting trips to tennessee, colorado, tcu, michigan state, and arizona

fire, which is still burning in southern california. officials now consider it to be the second largest fire in state history.(ááávo+sidebará áá)here's where we stand this morning.according to calfire ... the fire has destroyed more than 272-thousand acres. it is also the third most destructive in structure losses .. with more than one- thousand buildings burned. (robin@ landing) one east bay hospital is helping lift patients spirits... with some highly trained four-legged friends. patients at the sutter health - alta bates summit medical center in oakland... are greeted by a golden lab.. named gayle. paige harris of richmond has been at alta bates since having a stroke last friday. she says, the highlight of her days is when the lab walks with her over to the regional acute rehabilitation program... for her physical therapy. accused of vandalism... after causing 400 dollars worth of damage. sanchez was taken into custody after the standoff. he eventually surrendered after talking to negotiators by phone. ( darya ) happening tonight... the asian pacific islander council of san francisco will host a candlelight vigil in honor of mayor ed lee. they say mayor lee was a trailblazer for the asian community from the beginning of his career ... to the end. the vigil starts at five at portsmouth square. ( james ) western union is refunding more than a half-billion dollars to victims of scams... over a 13-year period. a total of 586 million dollars will be available for people who wired money ... using western union

to scam artists... between january first, 2004 to january 19, 2017. some of the scams involved people posing as fake tax collectors or fake law enforcement officers. the deadline to apply for a refund is february 18. you can do that through the federal trade commission's website. kong" lets you play as the gorilla who was shot and killed by a cincinnatti zoo keeper after a baby fell into his cage in 2016. in this game if harambe touches a child, a zoo keeper shoots the animated gorilla-- and its game over. some say the game is offensive... others are on the fence. < "there is a lot of video games out there that are politicly incorrect i think this game is pretty tame considering a lot of the other more modern games with a lot more realistic violence."( darya ) the creator hopes to have the game online and ready for people to download on their phones within the next few months. he's also plans to make two other games, calling this one the first in a trilogy ( darya ) a new gallup poll has found that lots of americans are stressed. the poll suggests it's an even bigger problem than many suspected..( james ) the results found eight

turner had quite the situation unfold at his portland home. check out this scene.... a semi-truck crashed into his swimming pool. apparently, the truck's driver lost control rounding a hairpin curve, slid down a hill, and ended up in the water. rescue officials had to use the jaws of life to remove the driver... and he was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. 4's lydia pantazes is live at the scene. lydia are they saying how much longer before the road reopens?. ( lydia ) here's what we know so far, two vehicles involved in this crash, on the 880 southbound near the 66th exit one of them a fed ex truck.we know the crash started here about 120 yards from where the fed ex truck is now overturned. (take vo)the crash happened just before 3am.two cars were involved, the fed ex truck and a person driving a sedan.the person driving the sedan died in the crash.the fed ex driver is still on scene, he was not hurt and investigators say he is cooperating with the investigation.we do know there is a lot of debris on the highway.all lanes of 880 are closed at 66th so there is a very heavy traffic delay.chp is sugesting you avoid this area and take an alternative route, like the 580.we talked to chp about the accident.
