breaking news from overnight. fire officials in antioch are investigating a string of stucture fires as arson.just before 10 last night ... crews responded to the fires on madille street and a-street. officials say 3 homes, 2 outbuildings, and one commercial structure burned ... all within a few blocks of one another.all fires are under control this morning and fire officials say all of the structures were abandoned.no one was injured.we have a reporter on the way to the scene.we'll keep you updated throughout (robin)now we turn to video of a fire at a south bay walmart. the chaotic scene ... captured on camera by a kron4 viewer ... take a look.(robin) according to the viewer who shot this video... this happened at the milpitas walmart around 8:30 last night

in the toy section. they tell us the store was evacuated... so far emergency officials are not providing any details. this is a closer look at where that walmart is located... a lot of people were out holiday shopping. it's still not clear whether anyone was hurt. (robin) a concord teacher is behind bars tongiht...accus ed of having sex with a developmentally disabled student. police say daniel gonzalez ... worked at loma vista adult center. there ... officers beleive the 55-year-old suspect had sex with an adult student ... who has the intellectual development level of a young teenager ... and therefore ... is considered a dependent adult. gonzalez has been placed on administrative leave. it is illegal to have sex with a person who is incapable of consent ... due to a developmental disability. (robin) the san francisco symphony canceled planned performances by a well- known conductor ... after allegations of sexual misconduct. charles dutoit

(doo-twah) ... who is the principal conductor of london's royal phil-har-monic orchestra ... is accused of assaulting several singers, and a musician. he was scheduled to conduct the san francisco symphony for two weeks in april.the symphony will now announce a new conductor ... while police investigate. (robin) another big story ...it's been a little over two months since a bomb was mailed to a home in east palo alto. now ... police have made an arrest in the case ... kron4's hermela aregawi has the details. (hermela aregawi)police say the suspect has had multiple run-in with authorities.. 56 year old ross gordon laberty is accused of mailing an exposive device with intent to injure or kill.federal documents point to one case from october 11th where the suspect allegedly mailed an

explosive device to an east palo alto address. the victim was injured after opening the package.vivian lindsay/neighbor:it makes me feel a little afraid. it's a pretty quiet neighborhood and friendly and my niece lives with us and goes down the street so it's a little to have our neighbor arrested this.in a similar incident, the wife of an alameda police officer was november 24th delivery.police were at the suspect's home in oakland on wednesday.vivian lindsay/neighbor:we just saw a lot of police cars, a lot of police walking down the street and we also saw the bomb squad and they have a special car so that was a little scary. you didn't know if there was a bomb that was going to go off in the nieghborhood.laverty is in federal custody after appearing in court in san francisco.he's scheduled for a hearing on december 28th. (robin) happening now ... 100 people in san jose may not be getting their packages in time for christmas ... or at all. thieves broke into a mail truck and stole four plastic bins full of packages. the truck was parked on

deland avenue when the thieves hit. the packages were addressed to homes on nevin way, concord avenue and kingman avenue. there is a 10- thousand dollar reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction. (robin)this is new video from the berkeley police department. police say, two package thefts happened earlier this month at an apartment building on fulton street. that's right near the cal campus and the downtown berkeley bart station. in both cases... the suspects waited outside the locked entrance door of the complex. when a tenant left ... they were able to get inside. the theives have not been caught. (robin) police have arrested a man in fairfield after they say he crashed his car into a gun store and then set the store on fire. it happened at the cordelia gun exchange on central way. when police arrived they found that the car had crashed through the front of the store ... the store was on fire and the man was trying to steal stuff from the store. police later arrested armando mandrigues from fairfield.

he was booked in the solano county jail and charged with arson and burglary. (robin)(áááboxesááá) and a suspected arsonist is arrested in santa clara county. investigators say jeffery navarro reyes is responsible for setting a string of fires along 680. one of the fire burned the old milpitas animal hospital. reyes is now facing three counts of arson. (robin)(áááboxesááá)hundreds gathered in san francisco's chinatown to honor late mayor ed lee. candles burning bright last night ... to remember the city's first asian american mayor ... a little over one week after his sudden death. kron 4's justine waldman was there and has the story. (robin) (robin)(robin) an undercover sting operation in the south bay has led to the arrest of 19 men for solicitation of prostitution. but three others face much more serious charges they are accused of attempted robbery. kron 4's dan kerman explains.

sotwe don't usually go after the johns but we did in this case and we found this horrible situationthe horrible situation santa clara county sheriff laurie smith is talking about happened monday night when authorities allege these three men set up a date with a prostitute and then attempted to rob her.ááásot laurie smith/santa clara county sheriff 15-20one had a taser one had a screwdriver and their intent was to rob the victimonly this was no ordinary prostitute.. this was an undercover cop posing as a prostitute in a sting operation, and now 22 year old ahmad altamimi, 18 year old gilbert gaeta and 18 year old nehemiah jimenez have all been charged with felony attempted robberysot we believe there are additional victimsthe sheriff is asking anyone prostitutes who have been victimized by these three or any others to come forwardsot we would really like to know and we will treat you like the victim you are even though you were involved in this type of activity, you the woman are the victim.gaeta and jimenez had their first court appearance thursday at the hall of justice , but did not enter a plea.ááástandup dan

kerman/san jose 100-110gaeta and jimenez are due back in court january 24th at which time they are expected to enter a plea, altamimi is due to make his first court appearance in mid february. in san jose dan kerman kron 4 news. (robin) we know the name of the suspected shoplifter ... shot and killed by a security guard at a san jose walgreens store. the suspect is 38-year-old maurice charles . the shooting happened monday night at the store on south first street. police say the security guard... does have a license to carry a gun.. officers are currently investigating what exactly prompted that guard to open fire. (robin) now to the eastbay ... where a masked man robbed a good will store.its a crime that could have an impact on those most in need this holiday season. it happened in concord wednesday night on willow pass road. as kron4's haaziq madyun reports.. it all unfolded as employees were counting the register. when this goodwill store

closed for the night wednesday unbeknownst to store employees there was someone still inside...and he wasn't there to make a donationsotconcord police investigators say the robber took the store's cash... then exited through the rear of the store and was last seen running away.police say the suspect is described as a white male 40 to 50 years old, between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 8 with a thin buildsot the goodwill store is located in the 1600 block of willow pass roadsot this time of year felipe roxas makes goodwill donations to help those less fortunate. he says he can't believe someone would rob a place like thissot

certainty i was supposed to do this.i had 50 million blood tests done. and i got the excited phone call all along the way.dorilyn harrison and her kidney doner lori gaines had their final blood work done this week. they're now all clear for the transplant surgery.it's amazing. i couldn't do it without lori, and i have to thank you as well, because i wouldn't be sitting here if it wasn't for the two of you. dorilyn has been living with polycystic kidney disease for almost 3 decades. we shared her story a year ago, after spotting this sign on a car. since then, she's had a number of offers, but no match until now.her life is hard. i mean it's hard you know. every part of her is affected by this so anything i can do to help makes me so excited.lori recognized dorilyn, because not only had they worked at the same school, but also at the time, dorilyn's son grant was her student. this surgery comes at a time when this mother of one

is at her weakest her kidney functioning at only 8%.it's been a long journey so i don't believe it's actually hit yet that it's gonna happen.bridge after the surgery, dorilyn's doctor's believe her kidney function will spike to 80%. for the average person, normal is 60%.surgery is a week from now. and both women are optimistic. lori's surgeon happens to be the doctor that performed dorilyn's father's transplant years ago.reporting in modesto ali reid kron 4 news (robin) still ahead on the kron four morning news... a warning for people heading out to warriors games.find out how many fans were victims of fake tickets.

trying a new approach to prevent homeless encampments from popping up. but not everyone is embracing the idea. kron4's terisa estacio explains. these large boulders undernearth 101 near cesar chavez avenue in san francisco - the latest attempt to try and prevent another homeless encampment from springing up . you heard correctly large rocks playing a part in dealing with the homeless. larry stringer. try something different this was relatively inexpensive. larry stringer is the deputy director for operations in the public works department for san fransisco. he says just a few weeks ago, there were about 80 homeless people living here and about 30 tents. with help from the cities outreach team they steered homeless into services then cleaned this area all up.larry. think of it this way we were using crews, cleaning. it was a health and safety hazard. stringer goes on to point out, the rocks are way cheaper then using cleaning crews who can then be dispatched to other parts of the city that need some attention. so far the new strategy seems to be working, kinda. you can see there are no new encampments here but down the way on

are looking for a man who stabbed a 61-year-old man in the neck in santa rosa. this is a new surveillance image of the person they are looking for. the attack happened around 6:30 last night at lola's market on dutton avenue. the victim was stabbed in the neck. he is now in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. police do not know what motivated the attack. (robin)this morning ... the golden state warriors are warning fans about a ticket scam. the team says .,.. 17 fans were not allowed wednesday night's game against the grizzlies because they had fake tickets. we are told... the tickets were from a non- verified third party. the warriors have six home games in the next ten days ...

thomas fire in california. chief mark brown/ca dept. of forestry and fire protection "we're continuing to decrease the staffing on the fire but maintaining the appropriate presence."officials say the blaze is roughly 65-percent contained.the fire, which has burned about 273-thousand acres in the ventura county area, is expected to be fully contained on january seventh. brendan ripley/fire behavior analyst"we are working with the northeast winds that we have right now. it's red flag conditions for the area, but it's actually favorable conditions for the firing that's going on up there."the thomas fire is the final wildfire that's still raging in california and all of the significant evacuation orders were lifted.california governor jerry brown requested a major disaster declaration

from the trump white (robin)in national news ...the senate approved a short-term spending bill that will keep the federal government operating for the next month. but this stop-gap measure only funds the government until january 19th. which means republicans and democrats will have to once again come back to the matter after the holidays. (robin)the population of california is now at 39.6 million. thats according to the state department of finance ... which released its annual county-by-county population estimates. in southern california ... los angeles county came in with the highest population at ten- point- three million.the smallest, alpine county ... has just eleven-hundred people. the statistics

( darya ) governor brown is asking president trump to make a major disaster declaration... because of the wildfires raging in the state. brown got a presidential emergency declaration for federal assistance earlier in december. he is making this new request because several major disasters this year have stretched state resources thin... including the north bay wildfires.

( darya ) also new this morning... san jose police arrest a man after they say he tried to meet up with an underage girl for sex. officers arrested 33-year-old joe nanez after he contacted a 14-year-old girl who actually turned out to be an undercover police officer. he also sent the undercover officer sexually explicit images. when nanez showed up to meet the girl he was met by san jose police officers and arrested. ( darya ) police have arrested a man in fairfield after they say he crashed his car into a gun store and then set the store on fire. it

happened at the cordelia gun exchange on central way. when police arrived they found that the car had crashed through the front of the store... the store was on fire and the man was trying to steal stuff from the store. police later arrested armando mandrigues from fairfield. he was booked in the solano county jail and charged with arson and burglary. ( james ) a suspected arsonist is arrested in santa clara county. investigators say jeffery navarro reyes is responsible for setting a string of fires along 680. one of the fire burned the old milpitas animal hospital. reyes is now facing three counts of arson. ( james ) two women are charged with attempted murder for assaulting a woman ... and then leaving her on a busy street where she was hit by a car. berkely police responded to a crash between a car and a pedestrian in the 31-hundred block of san pablo avenue on monday night. they found a woman in the middle of the street. the woman was rushed to a hospital where she is in critical condition. police were able to recover surveillance video that shows two women beating the victim. police

( darya ) more than two months after a bomb was mailed to an east palo alto home... police have made an arrest in the case. police say ross gordon laverty mailed at least one explosive device on october 11th. the person who got the package was suspicious... so he opened it in his back yard. he was injured when he opened it. last month... a mail bomb was also sent to a police officer's home in alameda. it's not clear if laverty is also connected to that crime. ( darya ) laverty is set to be in court on december 28th. if convicted .. he faces up to 20 years in prison.. ( darya ) in the south bay ... an undercover sting

( darya ) new this morning... san jose police arrest a man after they say he tried to meet up with an underage girl for sex. officers arrested 33-year-old joe nanez after he contacted a 14-year-old girl who actually turned out to be an undercover police officer. he also sent the undercover officer sexually explicit images. when nanez showed up to meet the girl he was met by san jose police officers and arrested. ( darya ) police have arrested a man in fairfield after they say he crashed his car into a gun store and then set the store on fire. it happened at the cordelia gun exchange on central way. when police arrived they found that the car had crashed through the front of the store... the store was on fire and the man was trying to steal stuff from the store. police later arrested armando

mandrigues from fairfield. he was booked in the jail and charged with arson and burglary. ( james ) a suspected arsonist is arrested in santa clara county. investigators say jeffery navarro reyes is responsible for setting a string of fires along 680. one of the fire burned the old milpitas animal hospital. reyes is now facing three counts of arson. ( james ) two women were charged with attempted murder for allegedly assaulting a woman ... and then leaving her on a busy street where she was hit by a car. berkely police responded to a collision between a car and a pedestrian in the 31-hundred block of san pablo avenue on monday night. they found a woman in the middle of the street. the woman was rushed to a hospital where she is in critical condition. police were able to recover surveillance video that shows two women beating the woman. police arrested both women. they're scheduled to appear in court next tuesday ( darya ) more than two months after a bomb was mailed

to an east palo alto home... police have made an arrest in the case. police say ross gordon laverty mailed at least one explosive device on october 11th. the person who got the package was suspicious... so he opened it in his back yard. he was injured when he opened it. last month... a mail bomb was also sent to a police officer's home in alameda. it's not clear if laverty is also connected to that crime. ( darya ) laverty is set to be in court on december 28th. if convicted .. he faces up prison.. ( darya ) in the south bay ... an undercover sting operation leads to the arrest of 19 men for solicitation of prostitution. three of them are also accused of attempted robbery. authorities say the trio set up a date with a prostitute

... and tried to rob her. only this was no ordinary prostitute ... she was an undercover cop. police are asking anyone who's been victimized by those three men ... to come forward. ( james ) the city of san francisco has come up with a new way to prevent homeless encampments from popping up and creating health hazarads. the idea? boulders. the city has placed them undernearth 101 near cesar chavez avenue. the public works department says they had to get ( james ) before mayor ed lee's passing... he vowed to take one- thousand homeless people off the street. the boulders detered around 80

homeless people from living in one san francisco location -- and with help from the city's out-reach program -- steered them into homeless services. ( james ) the golden state warriors are warning fans about a ticket scam. the team says 17 fans were not allowed in wednesday game against the grizzlies because they had bogus tickets. we're told the tickets were from a non- verified third party. the warriors have six home games in the next ten days... including a christmas day matchup against the cleveland cavaliers. since opening night.. more than 300 fans have been turned away because of counterfeit tickets. the team is encouraging fans to buy tickets directly from its website... warriors dot com. ( darya ) on christmas day.. cal-train and sam-trans will run on a holiday schedule. both agencies will be open on a typical sunday schedule on christmas eve and christmas day. cal-train will also offer the standard shuttle service to and from its san jose stations. ends of the golden gate bridge will be restricted... starting saturday. the restrictions will be in effect between 11 in the morning and 5 in the evening... and will be in place through january first. visitors can still access the welcome center at the south end of he bridge and the vista point that overlooks at the north end by public transit... bike.. taxi or ride sharing. ( darya ) thousands of children from low income families will get a christmas surprise. for the second day in a row... sacred heart in san jose will hand out toys. the giveaway started yesterday. parents were given black garbage bags to hide the toys they picked out ... while their kids were playing in another area. unfortunately -- sacred heart is still about 39-hundred toys short of its goal. but you can still donate -- just head over to sacred heart... or donate online. ( james ) new federal numbers are out for life expectancy in the u.s. and the numbers are down once again this year.( darya ) on average, in 2016 life expectancy was 78-point-6 years in the u.s. that's down from 78-point-seven the year before. government researchers believe that the epidemic of drug overdoses is at least partly to blame. the leading causes of death remain the same including heart disease, cancer and stroke. ( darya ) a 10- thousand dollar christmas donation is helping needy families in san jose. christmas came a little early for about 160- families at "katherine r. smith elementary school." this was the happy scene yesterday... as those families were given more than 500- gifts. the money was donated by the san jose- based "republic urban properties."
