"survivors, united, will never be divided!"off the big screen, one of the year's biggest stories was the "me too" movement, as women spoke out about sexual harassment and assault -- allegations that rocked hollywood. it was a year of cultural shifts playing out in real life and on the silver screen. "i do think that this year brought us a lot of wonder women." psychologist and pop-culture expert andrea letamendi says art and life are intertwined. "late 2016, we had 'hidden figures,' of course this summer we had 'wonder woman,' and this december we had 'the last jedi'... those movies in particular presented us with very strong female characters who embodied the sense of somewhat idealistic resistance and psychological strength." letamendi says audiences make personal, psychological connections to characters like "wonder woman.""that feeling of empowerment, those feelings of resilience, and standing up to the status quo -- we really needed those narratives, this year especially, and i think that's what really stuck with us.""once some names were attached to, specifically, the harvey weinstein case, i think it really blew open a hole in the hull of things that were being held in for a long time in the culture.""we all knew. so i want to be clear that the 'me too' movement was really about empathy."and, not unlike

silver screen superheros, the me-too movement was about fighting for the greater good. "this is how you topple status quo. this is how you fight against something that you know isn't right, even in the face of adversity, in the face of usually men saying 'that's not how we do this. for years, this has been the way we do things,' and we see these female characters standing up for what they believe in and saying 'no, i want to change that, and i believe in my heart that this is right.'""i think it is a very empowering moment for women... the noise is turned up this year, everyone's being a little louder, everyone's not gonna stay quiet."hat i do is not up to you."in hollywood, i'm david daniel.
