new year. camila bernal is live from the embarcadero and she shows us how preparations for tonight are going ... camila? good morning marty, today is just one of those days where you won't be able to avoid the crowds along the embarcadero. take vo the show will begin at midnight but many will be here a lot earlier. the show will last about 15 minutes and it's free but those who come will have to figure out where to park or how to get here. keep in mind that most of the city parking along the embarcadero is off limits. the good news is that the muni and the a.c transit will be in service. bart will have extended hours, operating until 3am-- but be aware that after 8pm some of the lines will not stop at the embarcadero. live tag there will also be extra security before and after the fireworks show.. sfpd is asking you to be aware of your surroundings if you plan on being in the crowds. live in sf cb kron 4. thanks camila.

( marty ) and across the bay area .. a major dui crackdown with multiple cities holding dui checkpoints.. santa rosa had a dui checkpoint at college avenue near morgan street...that's where police arrested 4 drivers on suspicion of dui..; 25 drivers were cited for not having a license... and one person was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant.. (marty) a deadly shootout on the peninsula between police and man outside a bank. it happened in redwood city

yesterday afternoon. kron4's spencer blake talked to witnesses. (reporter)there was a person at the bank who saw the suspect pacing around with a gun, so they called police, who ended up getting into a shootout with the man.i spoke with one person who saw the shooting as it happened.(pkg) just before four saturday afternoon, redwood city police arrived at this wells fargo at broadway and main.ignacio jimenez was nearby at the time. he was parking his car when he saw police cars zip by, so he turned the corner to check it out."that's when i saw officers behind the suburban with their weapons drawn. they were hiding behind the trees right across the street where there's a park, and so i saw that their attention was on a gentleman that was right outside the wells fargo bank." jimenez says it seemed like the suspect wasn't complying with officers' orders."he had his hands in his pockets in his sweater and then soon after that he took his hand out, and he had something in his hand and shots rang out - i'm not sure who shot first or what - and then the gentleman fell to the ground."police say the suspect shot at officers, who returned fire and killed him.another witness works at

the savers about a block away, and heard the commotion all the way over there."i heard about 12 shots so i told my coworkers about it and then ran across down over here and i saw the cops taping the whole streets."meanwhile, jimenez had his phone, and was recording everything he saw. when i spoke with him, he didn't have his phone, because police had it and were reviewing the video as evidence."i'm glad that my video was able to hopefully help them and their investigation."even hours later, people watching from the other side of the police line say they could see the suspect's body lying in the parking lot.the interim police chief, though sad there was loss of life, was satisfied with his officers' attempts to negotiate and use every tool they had available...before resorting to gunfire.(reporter) police said in a social media post that there are no other outstanding suspects in the case...and that there is no threat to the public.in redwood city, spencer blake, kron four news. inside... she says her 7-year-old pitbull named gracie is easily spooked by loud noises, like fireworks. june kelley/pet owner- "i keep the doggy door closed, and uh, i put a thunder shirt on her, and um, just try to keep an eye on them." june says all of her pets are licensed and microchipped as well... just in case they do get away. june kelley/pet owner- "i see it all the time, where a dog gets lost, especially in light of all the fires and the different sort of disasters we've had lately, and i think it's really important to have a chip. i see dogs being reunited with their owners, you know, years afterwords, you know, thousands of miles away because of a chip, so i think it's important to have one." though fireworks are illegal in most bay area counties like contra costa... the animal services department will still have officers out and about on new years eve... responding to lost pet calls and looking for strays. if found, they're brought back to the animal shelter. owners of lost cats and dogs are encouraged to check in with the shleter at least every three days in

( marty ) gilroy police arrested a man accused of trying to rob a pizza hut. police say izaak diaz entered the store with a gun as employees were putting money into a safe. he did not get away with anything. but police say they later spotted the suspect. who led them on a high speed chase for several miles. diaz is being held in the santa clara county jail on attempted robbery and felony evading arrest charges. crackdown with multiple cities holding dui checkpoints.. santa rosa had a dui checkpoint at college avenue near morgan street...that's where police arrested 4 drivers on suspicion of dui..; 25 drivers were cited for not having a license... and one person was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant.. (marty) a deadly shootout on the peninsula between police and man outside a bank. it happened in redwood city yesterday afternoon. kron4's spencer blake talked to witnesses.
