(vicki) a fire broke out at a cardboard manufacturing plant in santa clara. this was the scene earlier today... the building was

evacuated and all the employers have been accounted for. kron four's camila bernal has the details. santa clara firefighters worked all morning to put out a fire that started just after one in the morning. when they first arrived there was a significant amount of flames but thankfully no fatalities and no one was injured.vo:the fire started at the 500 block of matthew street in a facility that makes and stores cardboard. they found a large amount of cardboard stacked up in the facility and they believe that could have caused the flames to be in multiple areas. they had to bring out 4 engines and 2 trucks and ambulance and volunteer firefighters all working together to put out the flames. no one was in danger and the plant had evacuated and had accounted for all employees at the time of the fire. there was a concern of electrocution because there are high voltage lines at the facility. the power was shut down and the firefighters were finally able to go in and battle the flames. sot: "the biggest concern we had was some of the areas where there was liquid propane gas and other areas inside the storage yard that were exposed to flames and also that densely packed cardboard. some of tose things as they burn topple over so we were dealing with that proximity issue"

people who don't pay for their bart ticket. also, fares are going up. (take vo) here's a breakdown of the fare increase. all fares will be going up 2.7 percent starting jan. 1, 2018. the minimum fare will increase to two- dollars for adults, one- dollar for kids, and 75- cents for seniors and disabled clipper users. also today... bart is stepping up enforcement by checking to see if riders actually paid for a ticket. bart estimates it loses between $10 million and $25 million a year due to folks walking in and out without paying. according to the new proof of payment policy, bart fare inspectors must proceed from one person to the next nearest person, checking as many people as possible. so basically, if someone standing next to you is asked to prove that they paid, you might as well start pulling out your ticket as well. cg: james/bart rider"that's great but i'm not sure if those folks who are evading fares can pay the fine. they might be going after people who just can't afford it and they don't care if they get caught anyway." steve hadley/bart rider"it may cost more to enforce it than to just let them do it, that sounds kind of silly but they should have people there though because i see it all the time."(oncam) for an adult a citation will be $75-dollars for a juvenile $55-dollars. reporting live in walnut creek, lydia pantazes kron4 news.
