( will ) now to a story you will see only on kron 4... an east bay family victimized twice by the same thief... first their car was broken into then their

other car was stolen right out of their garage. surveillance video shows a man peaking around the house and ringing the doorbell to see if anyone was home. the family believes the same person came back and stole their car. they also believe that the same thief targeted another one of their cars at the fremont bart station earlier in the day.

holland. police say he got into the home by breaking into a car outside and using a stolen garage door opener. it happened in rohnert park. police say the suspect took off his clothes and climbed on top of the eight -year old victim.. she woke up screaming and he took off.. police found him a short time later and arrested him. ( will ) and in the east bay... concord police are searching for this woman --- suspected of attempted murder and arson. martha javier-- also known as gabby javier-- is suspected of starting a fire at a mobile home with a man inside the home. it happened back on december 20th. people in the area managed to rescue the man from the fire. he was taken to the hospital where he is still in critical condition. ( will ) oakland police have identified the man who was shot and killed by a bart police officer outside of the west oakland bart station. he is 28-year old shaleem tindle of oakland. kron 4's gabe slate has the latest.

just before 5pm oakland police say an on duty bart police officer dressed in full uniform was inside the west oakland bart station when he heard an active shooting taking place.the unidentified bart officer responded to the shooting across the street near the intersection of 7th street and chester street.the officer observed two males in a struggle with each other; one of them 28-year old shaleem tindle of oakland was h0lding a handgun.police say after giving several commands.. the bart police officer opened fire striking shaleem tindle.who later succumbed to his injuries. investigators are attempting to clarify how the other man, who was listed in stable condition and has since been released from the hospital, sustained his injuries.stand up sound gabe slate reporter - the bart officer was wearing a body cam and it captured footage of the incidentshaleem tindle's family has retained civil rights attorney john burris to find out if this was a justified shooting.sound from john burris - tindle

the complaint comes from six former and current inmates from the santa rita jail.it claims pregnant inmates were made to agree to abortions.did not get proper nutrition or clothing.and some suffered miscarriages while in custody. sot and it seems to me that whenever a woman complains she is the liar and i am sorry but that does not ring true to me attorney yolanda huang tells me the alameda county jail is not a safe place for a pregnant woman.the alameda county sheriff's office, which serve as guards at the jail, claimed it had not seen the complaint yet.but wanted to address the accusations.sot we could not disagree more with the allegations that were made the lawsuit details one pregnant inmate's experience, where she claims she was in pain and was taken to highland hospital in oakland.the sheriff's office says she was misdiagnosed with braxton hicks, or false labor.the lawsuit writes out then back at the jail, she was "forced to deliver her baby alone in solitary confinement." sot they closed the slot to her door and all the women in her

( will ) another big story we are following this morning... police say the body found in back of a santa cruz's man car -- has been identified as his own mother. tosten lommen was pulled over in south dakota for speeding with his hazard lights on. after a chase he was taken into custody on suspicion of d-u-i. while police searched his s-u-v, they found the body of a woman wrapped in a blanket. the victim has been identified as 58-year-old michelle nanette walsh. ( will ) after the 4- point-4 magnitude earthquake rattled the bay area yesterday... emergency officials are taking this opportunity to remind everyone to be prepared for when the next big one hits. kron

4's charles clifford talked with the department of emergency management about creating an earthqake kit. sotthe real important part is making sure you have enough supplies for three days. kristin hogan is with the san francisco department of emergency management. on thursday afternoon, she showed kron 4 some of the basic items that everyone should have at home in case an earthquake were to knock out power for several days or longer.sotyou need to make sure you have enough water for the persons in your household. that's a gallon per person per day for 3 days.sotfood. make sure you have no perishables. have a can opener in case you don't have electricity. so you can access what you need to. batteries and flahslights. hogan also says that it's not necessarily important to have all of your supplies stored in one location.sotmight be a good idea to put them in different places around your domicile. so in case you can't get to one specific part of you environment you can go to another resource.sh also suggests refreshing supplies

out how to combat the crimes. kron 4's ali reid has the details. homeowners are terrified about the brazen car break-ins in this area.schuyler hudak / car burglary victim - my car has been broken into at 11am in the morning. my sister's garage which is about 8 blocks from where i live has been broken into at least 3 times in the last 6 months.on a rainy night, homeowners made the trek to this meeting to find out how they can work towards keeping their neighborhood safe.i think we're averaging 85 car breakins a day in the city and that's only reported break-ins. and i believe we surpassed 30k car breakins last year alone. i don't think there's a day that passes by where you walk down the street and don't see shattered glassit's mostly tourists and rental cars that are being targeted, but families and their visitors are also being affected. the group plans to hold monthly meetings. and will making their presence known at city hall.chris alafi / san francisco - to the meetings, to the police captain's office, to the department of health newton kindlund / san francisco - the criminals

stores last year. sears has been selling off some of its real estate and brands... as it tries to raise money. ( will ) in the north bay... a man was arrested for unlawful possession of and brandishing of a firearm in fairfield. he is 32-year- old herbert similton. police first received a call of a possible residential burglary in progress in the 1900 block of san benito street... but when they arrived...there was an argument between a resident in one house and workers at another house. police say herbert went into his home

during the conflict to get his rifle...causing the workers to run from the area. ( will ) the lake county man charged with attempted murder of an armored truck guard last year has been found guilty. ivan morales was convicted on robbery and assault. morales and another man followed an armored car to a bank. that's where they held up the guard... stole money and shot the guard in the head. morales then drove to calistoga after the robbery... resulting in a four hour chase... involving nearly 200 police officers he was later found hiding in a culvert and arrested. ( will ) in the east bay. police have released a surveillance image of a man who stole a purse in clayton. this happened at the clayton station safeway on clayton road. the victim says she turned away from her cart for a second then noticed that her purse went missing. police say the man is carrying the woman's purse in his right hand in this picture. they do not have a clear descrpiton of the theif.

( will ) in the south bay.. a pedestrian was killed after two cars hit him in san jose. it happened yesterday morning near north first street and brokaw road. the first car hit the man with its side mirror knocking him to the ground. the victim called police while on the ground... when a second car hit him. both drivers stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators. the victim has only been identified as a 64 year old man. ( will ) in the east bay... police are looking for a burglar who hit an officer with a car. it started with a home burglary on montevino drive in pleasanton. when officers arrived -- the burglar took off in a grey honda accord. later... another officer saw the car on the same road. the officer got out of his car and tried to stop the thief. the criminal hit the officer with the car.. the officer was released from the hospital yesterday. police have not yet released a description of the attacker. ( will ) there is a critical shortage of blood in the bay area... and now officials at the stanford blood center are asking people for their help. they are currently in need of o- negative blood and platelets. decreased donations over the holidays and more demand than normal has caused the shortage. the stanford blood center was created to help stanford hospital and children's hospital stanford. ( will ) san francisco city officials say there was a record low number of traffic deaths in 2017. they say it's proof of their "vision zero" goal, which is to make sure there are even fewer traffic deaths by the year 2024. the 20 deaths on san francisco streets last year makes it the lowest mark since 19-15. officials also say that the fatality numbers are

moving in the opposite direction of national trends... which shows that traffic deaths are on the rise across the country. san francisco police say they have emphasized traffic safety... issuing nearly 40-thousand tickets last year. ( will ) happening now: flu season is kicking into high gear ... and that is leading to restrictions on visits to at least one bay area hospital. as kron four's rob fladeboe explains... health officials are reporting a sharp increase in the flu across the south bay. the flu is out there and it's taking a toll. in santa clara county, the first flu-related death was reported on november 16. since then there have been three more. the county health department is reporting eight outbreaks of at least two or more related cases, five in the past week alone says dr. george han.dr. george han/santa clara county health dept."....right now flu season is on the upswing, were seeing sharp increases in the flu activity over the past few

( james ) and in the east bay...concord police are searching for this woman --- suspected of attempted murder and arson. martha javier-- also known as gabby javier-- is suspected of starting a fire at a mobile home with a man inside on december 20th.

suspended at jfk, and air traffic halted at laguardia airport that was all thursday .on friday, some better news both of those major airports trying to get back to normal today. operations pushing forward but with all of those cancelations, it is going to be rough for quite some time. the airlines all scrambling - issuing warnings to passengers to call ahead, or go online to check the status of their flight here at sfo - specifically 19 flights wiped out - and it could get worse as the day rolls out - i have talked with some passengers who just rolled their eyes esperated about the delays, yet others just taking it all in realizing they can't do much about it all, expect wait and try and be patient to get to their destination.

the lake county man charged with attempted murder of an armored truck guard last year has been found guilty. ivan morales was convicted yesterday on robbery, assault and personal discharge of a firearm charges. morales and another man followed an armored car to a bank. that's where they held up the guard, stole money and shot the guard in the head. morales then drove to calistoga after the alleged robbery. resulting in a four hour chase ... involving nearly 200 law enforcement officers he was later found hiding in a culvert and arrested. ( james ) in the south bay.. a pedestrian was killed after two vehicles hit him in san jose. it happened around 5 o'clock yesterday morning ... near north first street and brokaw road. the first car hit the man with its side mirror-- knocking him to the ground. the victim called police while on the ground... when a second car hit him. both drivers stopped at the scene and cooperated with

investigators. the victim has only been identified as a 64 year old man. (james) be on the look out... police say this man is going around morgan hill with fake stories to get money from strangers. he has been to at least 5 locations in the town. he makes up stories ... such as his truck broke down -- or his father-in- law had a heart attack and needs money. he promises to be back in forty-five minutes .. . but never returns. in the east bay...police are looking for a burglar who hit an officer with a car. it started with a home burglary wednesday night on montevino drive in pleasanton. when officers arrived -- the suspect took off in a grey honda accord. later... another officer saw the vehicle on the same road. the officer got out of his car and tried to stop the thief. the criminal hit the officer with the car..the officer was released from the hospital this morning. no suspect description has been (james) san francisco city officials say there was a record low number of traffic

( james )(ááá2 shotááá)a severe winter storm is pummeling the east coast ... throwing around blinding snow ... flooding coastal streets ... and causing flight cancellations and delays. kron4's terisa estaci is live at s-f-o with more on how the storm is impacting flights here.terisa? (estacio) that storm sweeping across the east is certainly creating some hardships. nearly five thousand flights canceled across the us two thirds of those flights all coming in and out of new york and boston.

(vo)the storm ripped through dumping as much as 18 inches of snow flights were suspended at jfk, and air traffic halted at laguardia airport that was all thursday .on friday, some better news both of those major airports trying to get back to normal today. operations pushing forward but with all of those cancelations, it is going to be rough for quite some time. the airlines all scrambling - issuing warnings to passengers to call ahead, or go online to check the status of their flighthere at sfo - specifically 19 flights wiped out - and it could get worse as the day rolls out - i have talked with some passengers who just rolled their eyes esperated about the delays, yet others just taking it all in realizing they can't do much about it all, expect wait and try and be patient to get to their destination.

received a call of a possible residential burglary in progress in the 1900 block of san benito street... but when they arrived to scene ... there was actually a disturbance between a resident in one house and workers at another house. the suspect went into his home during the conlict to get his rifle ... causing the workers to run from the area. ( will ) the lake county man charged with attempted murder of an armored truck guard last year has been found guilty. ivan morales was convicted on robbery and assault. morales and another man followed an armored car to a bank. that's where they held up the guard... stole money and shot the guard in the head. morales then drove to calistoga after the robbery... resulting in a four hour chase... involving nearly 200 police officers he was later found hiding in a culvert and arrested. ( james ) in the south bay.. a pedestrian was killed after two vehicles hit him in san jose. it happened around 5 o'clock

yesterday morning ... near north first street and brokaw road. the first car hit the man with its side mirror-- knocking him to the ground. the victim called police while on the ground... when a second car hit him. both drivers stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators. the victim has only been identified as a 64 year old man. (james) be on the look out... police say this man is going around morgan hill with fake stories to get money from strangers. he has been to at least 5 locations in the town. he makes up stories ... such as his truck broke down -- or his father-in- law had a heart attack and needs money. he promises to be back in forty-five minutes .. . but never returns. in the east bay...police are looking for a burglar who hit an officer with a car. it started with a home burglary wednesday night on montevino drive in pleasanton. when officers arrived -- the suspect took off in a grey honda accord. later... another officer saw the vehicle on the same road. the officer got out of his car and tried to stop the thief. the criminal hit the officer

with the car..the officer was released from the hospital this morning. no suspect description has been released. ( will ) happening now: flu season is kicking into high gear ... and that is leading to restrictions on visits to at least one bay area hospital.( james ) as kron four's rob fladeboe explains... health officials are reporting a sharp increase in the flu across the south bay. the flu is out there and it's taking a toll. in santa clara county, the first flu-related death was reported on november 16. since then there have been three more. the county health department is reporting eight outbreaks of at least two or more related cases, five in the past week alone says dr. george han.dr. george han/santa clara county health dept."....right now flu season is on the upswing, were seeing sharp increases in the flu activity over the past few weeks as we expect we may be at the peak of the season right now...."privacy laws

department stores across the nation are struggling to keep up with online retailers. now sears has announced it is closing more than 100 stores. that includes 64 k-mart stores... and 39 sears stores. in the bay area ... the sears stores in san jose and san rafael will close. the stores will close between early march and early april. liquidation sales will begin as soon as next friday at those locations. the company also closed around 250 stores last year. sears has been selling off some of its real estate and brands ... as it tries to raise cash. on a related note ... macy's announced that it is shuttering even more stores around the bay area. macy's furniture store in
