lands on the wrong runway a runway where another jet with passengers was on. (steve) this now makes three cases being investigated by federal officials involving problematic landings at sfo in the last seven months. good evening i'm steve aveson, in for vicki liviakis.(grant) and i'm grant lodes. aviation experts are now weighing in on whether this case should cause travelers to be concerened. kron 4's terisa estacio explains what happened. according to the faa, aeromexico flight 668 was cleared to land at sfo tuesday night on runway 28r, but then something went wrong. air traffic controllers noticed when the plane was about a mile away, it was lined up in the wrong position - aiming for a runway where a virgin american jet was getting ready to depart. controllers demanded the pilot of flight 668 to abort it did, and nothing tragic happened. however, this now makes three cases in 7 months here at sfo

- being investigated by federal aviation officials.21 29 "where is this guy going, back in july - an air canada flight almost hitting jets on the ground, after it mistook a taxi runwaypilots calling that at the time -that was a close call.then in october - "air traffic control - eighty one go around"another air canada flight mishap - air traffic contollers told a plane to change course, but there was a radio breakdown, the pilot did not hear the re-direct but did land safely. and now there is this latest event on tuesday. i spoke by phone with veteran pilot and airplane accident investigator john cox late wednesday from his washington dc office. voice of john cox. i would say, they are 3 individual incidents not common linkage between them.cox elaborates and says - federal investigators are doing the right thing by examining each incident to see what went wrong and learn from he adds, if concerned about flying right now, consider thiscox. in 2017, aviation safety was the best it has ever been. we moved 4 billion passengers on 38 million flights without a single fatality and aviation safety continues to improve. cox also adds that sf is challenging

volunteers turned in their petition early thursday. they handed over to the registrar of voters for verification just over 100,000 signatures on a petition asking voters to recall superior court judge aaron persky. the effort led by stanford law professor michele dauber.michele dauber/recall judge persky "...we're not taking anything for granted, we intend to keep working just as we have been doing for the past four months, we will continue to go out and talk to voters about the important issues of violence against women raised by our campaign..."judge persky was targeted for recall after he sentenced former stanford swimmer brock turner, convicted of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman after a campus party, to six months in jail. recall supporters say the sentence was far too lenient and part of a pattern where judge persky has shown leniency to defendants in other sexual assault cases.michele dauber "....we just cant afford, at a time like right now, when we are in the middle of a national social conversation

(steve) the napa county sheriff's department has identified the driver who was killed in a rockslide on highway 121. 22-year-old hernan reyes-aguires lived in fairfield. he was on his way home from visiting family in napa when a giant rock knocked his car off a cliff. officials in napa county are now stepping up efforts to prevent more mud and rockslides from happening. the napa county office of

emergency services has teamed up with a company to provide free straw wattles and wooden stakes to people in areas damaged by last october's fire storm. they are meant to prevent erosion. and caltrans says they will now double their efforts to make sure hillsides are safe all across napa county. the 4th time in a month that a sea lion has bitten a swimmer at aquatic park. the other attacks all happened in the same week last month. after those incidents, park officials closed aquatic cove to swimmers for several days. it is not rare to see sea lions swimming near the entrance to the cove. officials are warning people to enter the water with caution... and they say it's always a good idea to swim in pairs. right now, there are no plans to close the park after this latest attack. and we first told you about the sea lion attack through our mobile app. we sent a push alert just before 8:40 this morning. make sure you download the kron-four news app to always get the latest breaking news. it's free for iphone and android devices. be leveled this morning, after being undermined by erosion. the house was yellow tagged in january of 2016... after rain and waves have worn away the cliff on which it sits.. kron4's maureen kelly spoke with the owners...dealing with losing their dream home. the 69 year old house went down surprisingly quickly.... it's redwood and plaster broken up into bits with the merciless claw of an escavator. the house had managed to stay standing after the 1998 el nino storms sent another neighboring cliffside home on this block crashing to the beach below....and resulted in several others on this stretch to be torn down. but another monster el nino during the winter of 2015-2016 ate away what was left of its yard and undermined the foundation. they won't let you stay in a house that you can see the ocean when you look out down at the windowmelissa mcconnel wore all black as she documented the death of her

dreamhouse. she and her husband bought it in 2009 and spent 7 years remodeling it themselves. they had just begun moving in, when the house was yellowtagged. they did what they could to save it....here's video from the spring of 2016 when they had it pulled forward to a safer position on the cliff and put up on blocks as they tried to find another lot they could move it to. we had lots near mitts misses the latest of which was april of last year but it wasn't meant to be i guessnot sure of how many winters the home could safely withstand, the the city of pacifica used a hazard mitigation grant to purchase it from owners. once cleared the land will become part of the esplanade overview trail...melissa and her husband say they plan to come back and visit. it was wonderful to actually be here and see it every morning. and every sunset and all that. but the beach isn't going anywhere. the ocean is it going anywherethe couple who now lives in the east bay, say they plan to start over and are now looking for another pacifica dream house for their next move. maureen kelly kron4 news.

(steve) in the east bay... laptop theives strike again... this time in concord. it happened around 7:45 last night at the starbucks off port chicago highway and gehringer drive. police say the man was working on his laptop inside the coffee shop. authorities say the man was looking at his cell phone when the suspect snatched the laptop and ran out of the starbucks. the suspect is described as a black man in this late teens or early twenties. police say he was wearing a black beaning, black sweatshirt and black pants. (steve) and earlier this week... thieves targeted people at two coffee shops in fremont. the robberies happened on tuesday... the first.. inside a starbucks on mowry avenue near farwell drive. that's where a woman had her laptop stolen. then... several hours later... outside of "slap face coffee and tea" ... a woman stole a man's wallet. this is on the corner of peralta and fremont boulevards. that woman was eventually

(steve) a warning for parents tonight... doctors say they are seeing an increase in teenagers eating laundry pods. (grant) and it's all because of an internet challenge. it's called the "laundry pod challenge". memes have been making rounds on the internet... showing people putting the pods on food, and cooking them. but some teems are taking the challenge one step further... and actually biting into the pods. doctors say this could cause a lot of health issues. (grant) health officials have previously warned parents of laundry pods... as young kids can mistake them for candy.

last year, poison control centers received more than 10- thousand reports of kids being exposed to the detergent pods. (steve) a big story we are following tonight... immigration officials say more crackdowns are coming... after 7-eleven stores were targeted across the country. ice agents raided the stores yesterday... including some right here in the bay area. it is being described as the largest immigration crackdown against any one employer ... since president trump took office. stores in santa clara, santa rosa, petaluma, suisun city, napa, and sebastopol were all part of the operation. if anyone was found to be in the country illegally, they were arrested. now officials in santa clara county say they are fighting back.

says they will continue to enforce the law and prevent companies from exploiting illegal immigration. (grant) more stories of sexual misconduct are surfacing about actor james franco after his recent golden globes win. several women described inappropriate encounters with the "disaster artist" star according to the los angeles times. one woman says the franco removed guards used while they were filming a sex scene together. another woman says franco pressured her into performing oral sex on him. five women in total have accused the actor of similar behaviors. franco... who is from palo alto... denies all of the allegations. a man several times... and tonight he is thanking them--- saying the officers saved his life. douglas powers had a series of interactions with the alameda police department as he was dealing with alcoholism. he received multiple d-u-i's over the course of a few weeks. powers says the last straw was when he blacked out behind the wheel... and crashed into several unoccupied cars. after that evening, he says an officer personally escorted him to an alcoholics anonymous class. powers is now just 9 days shy of 27 months without having a drink. he credits the officers for his sobriety... and presented a plaque to the alameda police department last night. a canine complaint leads to the seizure of nearly 50- mixed breed chihuahuas from an east bay pet shop. animal services were called in to take a look at the situation and they didn't like what they saw.(steve) however the owner of the pet shop says the city had no right to take her dogs away and filed a compliant of her own... kron4's haaziq madyun has the story this administrative search and seizure warrant was executed by oakland animial services wednesday here at rosie's enterprise pet shop on bancroft avenue in east oakland...they were looking for dogssotoakland animal services director rebecca katz says this was the culmination of a years worth of investigating multiple complaints regarding the pet shopsot

(grant) rat poison used at marijuana farms appears be killing endangered owls... that's according to scienctists at u-c davis and the california academy of sciences. pot farms use rat poison to keep rodents away from their irrigation systems and crops. but it appears to be poisoning owls as well. according to the study... seven of ten endangered northern spotted owls found dead tested positive for rat poisoning. research found other breeds are also being poisoned. researchers are concerned the poisoning of wildlife will increase with california's legalization of recreational marijuana. common to see coyotes in suburbs and urban areas. even so... they want to remind people that these wild animals can be dangerous. never approach a coyote. if you encounter one, do not run away. instead, keep eye contact, wave your arms and throw object around you like rocks. wildlife officials encourage taking extra caution at dawn and dusk. also, keep your pets inside and do not leave pet food out. (steve) one-year-old twins are still missing after their parents were arrested. stockton police say it is a race against time and the twins' parents aren't helping. both parents have been uncooperative since their arrest on tuesday. father aaron weddles and mother princess walker were reported missing last week. but when officers located the couple along with three other children...twins, setina and ren weddles, were not found. investigators have had no luck contacting anyone who might know the family. soteric jones/stockton police chief "we hope that these

survivors are now dealing with another issue... they say a-t-and-t is charging them for cable boxes... that went up in flames.(steve) kron 4's ali reid spoke with one coffey park homeowner who is battling it out with the company. the tubbs fire took patty geisler's home days later her mom passed away while on hospice. now she's dealing with another battle after at&t charged her nearly $500 for the cable boxes that went up in flames.pkgan entire neighborhood up in flames. what's left of patty geisler's coffey park home is this tree, which now has a bit of decor. as the family tries to keep their spirits up and move on, they're left to deal with a $472 charge to her account. never should they ever deduct money from someone's bank account without knowledge. patty says her husband called

a-t-&-t right after the tubbs fire to let them know everything was lost. to their shock, those charges were debited in december.i went through 3 different people that day telling them my story until i finally i spoke to a guy in loss retention that said yes that was a mistake you shouldn't have been charged. i'm going to write a ticket for it.after nearly a month and no refund, patty called back on monday. this time around, she was told she needed to file a claim with her personal property insurance in order to get reimbursed.she said well i've been here for a long time and i know what i'm talking about. and basically this is the end of the story. you've reached the end of the line. i'm not giving you credit.and it's not just patty that's dealing with this more than 2 dozen neighbors are going through it as well. some have had charges

(grant) a pennsylvania couple says their son was the epitome of good health... but within days of getting the flu... he was dead. it started a couple days before christmas. kyler baughman knew he was sick, but thought he'd be okay. his mother says he was running a high fever so he went to the emergency room. he was then airlifted to a different hosptial where he died less than 24 hours later. kyler's mother says he died from organ failure due to septic shock caused by influenza. the family is now grieving kyler's sudden death. they hope by sharing his story, they can save someone else. (todd baughman/kyler's father): "try and know your body. don't let things go. whenever you have a fever for multiple days, don't let it go, get it taken care of." (beverly baughman/kyler's mother): "i just think he ignored it and thought it'd go away like most people, and i think people need to pay more attention to their bodies," (grant) according to his family,

falls prey to the weather- related erosion .. which has already destroyed three apartment buildings and several other homes in that area in recent years. (pam) good evening i'm pam moore . (steve #2) and i'm steve aveson. kron4's maureen kelly talked to the homeowner who watched as her dream home was torn down. take a listen to the sound of heartbreak.natsthe nearly 70 year old oceanview home at 532 esplanade blvd went down fast....but not with out a fight. it's owners spent years trying to keep this from happening. during the 2015-2016 el nino rains and tide ate away its yard and undermined the foundation..... the owners did what they could to save it....here's video from the spring of 2016 when they had it pulled forward to a safer position on the cliff and put up on blocks as they tried and failed to find another lot they could move it to. they weren't sure how many more winters the home could withstand, so today, two years later, they have to let it go. mixed emotions 1 million of them. i'm sad but we've had almost 2 years to get ready for this day. so the waiting

part was really hard and so that part of it is relief. i'm kind of a conclusion ready to go onto the next chapter. we're gonna get another house in pacifica and if we have to start over will start over this isn't the first time that erosion has led to the demolition of buildings here in pacifica. a home right nextdoor was torn down in november.back in 1998 el nino storms sent another neighboring cliffside home on this block crashing to the beach below....and resulted in several others on this stretch to be torn down.more recently two blocks north on the 300 block of esplanade 3 apartement buildings, home to dozens of people, needed to be demolished after decades of erosion undermined the cliffs beneath them. the city has purchased melissa's home with a diaster mitagation grant. and they are putting more boulders down to protect the street from further erosion. wish they would've done that a little sooner but but nothing could've saved our house. no one knows. they do have to save the street because the people on the other side, all the utilities are underground here and if you don't have a street i don't know how you can get to your house so. so so they are diligently trying to preserve thatonce cleared the land will become part of the esplanade overview trail...melissa and her husband plan to come back and visit.maureen kelly kron4 news

(pam) new at six... petaluma police are searching for a woman.. who is suspected of stealing credit cards during two weddings. according to police... they received a report of a stolen wallet on january 2nd at saint vincent de paul church... the victim said, she left her purse in a backroom during the ceremony... and when she returned to the room afterwards... her wallet was missing and she later found out, her credit cards had been used. a similar theft was reported around 4- p-m last saturday... police released a photograph of the suspect... using one of the victim's credit cards at a target in petaluma. anyone with information about the suspect .. is asked to contact petaluma police right away. a woman was bitten by a sea lion this morning, while swimming at aquatic park... the fourth in a month. witnesses say, it happened around 6:45-this morning ... in an area swimmers call "the jacuzzi." they say, the woman is a member of the "south end rowing club." we spoke to a swimmer who helped pull the woman out of the water."i heard her call out for help, i swam over and she said she had been bit.' a friend of the swimmer says, the sea lion "chomped down" on her knee and pulled. another swimmer says, the woman was bleeding badly when she got out of the water. she was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. officials at aquatic park are encouraging people who visit the popular swimming area to stay in pairs and keep a close

(steve) police are looking for a man who robbed a bank yesterday. it happened at the u-s bank on morrissey boulevard near soquel avenue in santa cruz. the suspect had a gun and demanded money from the tellers. after successfully getting an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot towards the parking lot. police followed a couple of leads but were unable to find him. the suspect is described as a male, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt with blue jeans. he was wearing a mask, sunglasses and gloves at the time of the robbery.
