group of protesters rallied at oakland city hall sunday night. they called attention to hundreds of thousands of people who are at risk- if the trump administration repeals their temporary protective status. the protestors called attention to salvadorans who are in danger of deportaion... the protective status does not provide a pathway to

citizenship or residency... but does gives them the opportunity to remain in the country without fear of deportation. ( robin ) attendees said it was important for them to come out and show solidarity... they also said it was a great opportunity for the organizations to work together for a better good. ( robin ) the trump administration is accepting daca renewal applications from dreamers. the announcement comes just days after a federal judge -- here in california -- temporarily blocked efforts to end the daca program. president trump has criticized the judicial process... saying the ruling could still be overturned. officials say renewals will be processed for now. but new applications for daca protections will not be accepted ( robin ) another big story we are following... a flight from s-f-o heading to paris had to be diverted to washington d.c. a person

on united flight 990 tweeted that the pilot said there was a passenger disturbance and they would be diverting the plane. it turns out that a person was having a medical emergency. it is not clear how that person is doing this morning. ( robin ) a dispute over a lost cell phone turned into an all-out brawl in a newark pizza parlor. it happened at "john's incredible pizza company." two large groups of people began shouting at each other and then started hitting each other. after the fight... a store manager handed the lost cellphone over to police -- apparently it had been left in the lost and found hours earlier. only minor injuries were reported and no arrests were made. ( robin ) mudslides in montecito have killed at least 20 people. this morning... four people are still missing. here are their photos. rescue workers are actively

searching for 17-year-old john cantin... john keating... faviola benitez calderon... and two-year-old lydia sutthithepa. lydia's father and brother are among the dead. ( robin ) a large crowd attended a candlelight vigil to pay tribute to the mudslide victims last night. mourners shared hugs and stories...and held a moment of silence. the mudslides hit in the early morning hours of tuesday... destroying dozens of homes and damaging hundreds of others. ( robin ) in the east bay... the health department in alameda county is trying to figure out what caused an elementary school student to die. the case involves a student in dublin who went to kolb elementary school. health officials do not believe that other people at the school were exposed to whatever disease killed the child. his name has not been released. grief counselors will be available for students when they return to school tomorrow. is making its way through a san francisco elementary school. dozens of students have gotten sick so far. kron 4's spencer blake has the details. everett taft is a five-year-old kindergartner at mckinley elementary in san francisco.friday morning, he came down with norovirus."what part of you hurt?my belly."he was one of 53 students and four teachers to catch the nasty bug since the new semester began.he missed school the day before the long martin luther king weekend. "what'd you do instead?watch shows."norovirus attacks your stomach and intestines, meaning vomitting and diarrhea are two of the worst symptoms. everett's dad andrew says his son got over it in less than 24 hours."my wife has it; it's a little bit worse. so far i've been able to avoid it, so wipe down the microphone when you're done with that."dad says everyone's been talking about it at school, and he's heard all about it from other parents at pick-up time, too. "they sent out a warning i think wednesday or thursday saying that a lot of people were getting sick."standup "though there are some northern california schools that have actually closed because of norovirus outbreaks, a spokeswoman for

the district here says there are no plans to close mckinley."classes were canceled at some eureka schools in december when 130 students got sick.despite the dozens of cases at mckinely, andrew says he doesn't think a closure is necessary, and that he's not surprised when his son gets sick a time or two each school year."having done nanny shares and things like that, it's like if you do that your kids often wind up getting sick anyway."health officials say disinfectant is key when viruses are spreading, so now i need to take andrew's initial advice...and wipe down my microphone.in san francisco, spencer blake, kron four news. ( robin ) a man wearing a hospital gown was arrested after running on to highway 101. it happened near the cesar chavez street off-ramp in the san francisco. c-h-p had to shut down parts of the freeway...causing heavy

traffic in the area. it is now back open. the man was taken to s-f general hospital for medical evaluation. ( robin ) one man is dead after a shooting in vallejo. now... police are looking for the shooter. it happened around 2:30 saturday afternoon... on westwood street near hogan middle school. police found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. he was treated at the scene... but later died at the hospital. police are not releasing the victim's name -- and they do not have a detailed description of the shooter. ( robin ) happening today... all bart trains will be operating on a different schedule for martin luther king jr. day. trains will run on a modified schedule for the m-l-k holiday. all stations will open at six a-m and trains will run every 20 minutes. parking will also be free for the entire day at all stations. direct service from richmond to daly city will start an hour earlier than usual. ( robin ) the golden gate ferry will also be running on

a different schedule for the holiday. the tiburon ferry will be closed. but commuters can take the blue and gold fleet to and from san francisco. the larkspur ferry will run their expanded holiday service and the sausalito ferry will operate on a regular holiday schedule. ( robin ) a man is recovering this morning... after a shooting in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood. and the shooter is still on the loose. it happened early yesterday morning on mason street...near union square. when they arrived... officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. police do not have a description of the gunman. ( robin ) an oakland dog rescue is faced with thousands of dollars in damage after a second car crashed into the non-profit in the last two years. rocket dog rescue employees came to work to find their new fence broken sunday morning. the night before this silver car drove into the fence... which was left abandoned by the driver. the founder of the non-profit shared her frustration with us. < "we love being a part of oakland and the community and it's amazing. we don't love oakland terrible drivers. this is the second time they've run into our building.">( robin ) about a year and a half ago

this van crashed into the side of their wall... fortunately missing the dogs inside the building. the landlord estimates this latest damage is going to cost him more than two thousand dollars. neigbors told us that wecreckless driving is common in the area. ( robin ) a big national story... for nearly 40 minutes people in hawaii thought a missile was targeting the island. it turned out to be a false alarm but it still left people on the island shaking with fear. john lawrence has the details. hawaii's emergency management agency says it's been getting angry calls and threats from people "blowing off steam." adnan mesiwala/waikiki visitor "it's hard to stay calm when you don't know what's happening."this after a false missile threat alert was sent out saturday.for 38-minutes, residents and tourists in hawaii say they were scared to death.linda jenner/waikiki visitor"there were people crying you could see people were really frightened. i sent a text to all my grandkids at home it made me realize my god, i could have never seen them again."alton davis/waikiki visitor "immediately notified the hotel i wanted to check out and head to airport because i

rallied in protest of a methadone clinic moving to their neighborhood. the city of richmond wants to relocate their city's methadone clinic to el sobrante. over 14-hundred people signed a petition opposing the move... el sobrante residents protested the proposed move at richmond civic plaza on saturday. ( robin ) protesters said they feel that contra costa county supervisor john goia has not taken their concerns seriously... the citizens of el sobrante plan to continue their activisim regarding the proposed move. (robin) still ahead on the kron four morning news... protesters camp out on the oakland mayor's lawn. what they want the mayor to do to fix the city's housing crisis.

deported. he decided to cross the us-mexico border for a second time... causing the most recent detention. the family says they hope to win his immigration case.. but are considering canada a second option. ( robin ) people around the bay area... celebrating martin luther king jr. day over the weekend. in marin city, gospel singers had a dramatic representation of the civil rights leader. actor felix justice did a portrayel of dr. king's speeches. while san francisco native danny glover did excerpts of noted activist civil rights poet langsten hughes.

doctor martin luther king coalition organized the event. additional celebrations are planned for today. ( robin ) in the east bay... activists are camping on oakland mayor libby schaaf's lawn to protest the city's housing problem. this comes after mayor schaaf asked the community to offer up their homes to solve the housing crisis. protesters say the mayor is making the issue worse and she needs to close landlord loopholes. they say 27- hundred people sleep on oakland's streets every night. they are also demanding that the mayor defund the police department by 50 percent to provide permanent housing solutions for the homeless. vigil at the parking lot where he was killed. 43-year-old terry amons was shot by pittsburg police in a nations parking lot friday night. friends told us he was a family man...who went to church every sunday. his mother said he worked at 2-thirty in the morning... and went to get a hamburger before his shift. ( robin ) police say a witness called in an alleged drug deal at the location. officer's approached the car and saw amons inside with a gun at his side... at first he complied...then they say he reached for the gun and that's when they shot him. his family says they don't believe that is what happened. ( robin ) president trump is blamings democrats for suspending talks on daca... this, as a few members of congress call for trump to apologize for making disparaging comments while discussing immigration reform in the oval office. kim

hutcherson has the latest. with a government shutdown looming, president trump took to twitter sunday.. blaming democrats for stalling a potential immigration deal... trump accused the democrats of not really wanting daca...and blowing the one great opportunity they had.the bipartisan discussion came to a standstill after the president made vulgar comments describing haiti and african nations while meeting with lawmakers on immigration reform.trump denied making the comment but did admit to using "tough language". rep. mia love / -r- utah: "i still think that he should apologize. i think that there are people that are looking for an apology, and i think that that would show real leadership." for many lawmakers, including the first haitian-american congresswoma n, coming to an agreement on daca is essential.rep. mia love / -r- utah: "we cannot let this derail us. i think the worst thing that can happen right now is for daca. . for there not to be a fix at all. there are people that are depending on us. not just

fired from a gun in front of the main public safety station. as officers went outside to investigate the shots, they located a male suspect in the plaza park holding a firearm asking to be shot by the police.officers immediately called for a crisis negotiator to respond to the scene. while the negotiator was responding, officers kept communicating with the male suspect. the suspect repeatedly told the officers to "kill me". officers continued to talk to the suspect for approximately one hour when the suspect started advancing on the officers. officers tried to move away from the suspect in order to continue their conversation.the suspect began walking towards an officer while disregarding all commands to drop his weapon. the officer ultimately fired his weapon at the suspect due to fearing for his life.as

emeryville police are looking for two people they say rammed police cars. it happened friday night at the home depot near interstate 5-80. store security called police after spotting suspicous activity in the parking lot. when the officers tried to arrest two people for weapons violations, they say the two drove off hitting two police cars. no officers were injured. ( james ) a spare the air alert is in effect today. this is the 19th alert for the winter season... that means you can't burn wood today. first time violators can pay a 100- dollar fine... or take a wood smoke awareness class. a second violation will set you back 500- dollars.
