(vicki) happening now... a standoff with a man who barricaded himself inside a hotel in the south bay is
5:03 pm
approaching it's 27th hour. the incident started in san jose yesterday afternoon at the wyndham garden hotel on silicon valley boulevard. police say they located the man who was wanted for felony warrants... and he refused to come out of his room. kron 4's rob fladeboe is live at the scene tonight.... rob... what is the latest? i'm here the southwest corner of the motel on silicon valley valley boulevard where san jose police and the sheriff's swat team have been staging. the suspect's room is on the second floor of the north wing of the wyndham motel, which has been evacuated and sealed off from the rest of the facility, which includes a restaurant and a couple of adjacent parking lots. the suspect, whom police say is wanted in connection with some outstanding felony warrants, barricaded himself in his room and has not been seen outside that room since about 3 o'clock sunday afternoon.
5:04 pm
one guest tells me that a motel staffer told him that there was somebody else in the room with the suspect, possibly being held as a hostage, but police would not confirm any part of that story. they say they have been in contact with the suspect, trying to negotiate a peaceful surrender. it's als0 not clear whether the suspect is armed. several guests telling me they didn't sleep too well last night with all this going on on. "...it's like a movie you know, you sort of do a double take and think, really? it makes you realize just how vulnerable you can be..." "....it's sort of spooky and scary, i always stay here when i come to town and never stop to think that something like this could happen....i don't think there is enough security at motels like this..." again, the north wing of the motel has been
5:05 pm
evacuated and sealed off. a swat vehicle has been stationed in the parking lot for much of the day. the suspect's room is on the second floor. beyond that, guests are checking in and checking out and the motel staff is tryingti conduct business as usual. (grant) breaking news... congress has reached a deal to end the government shut down. we are waiting for the president to sign the funding bill... it's expected to happen sometime tonight. the shutdown started late friday night....but today's deal is only temporary. kron4's washington correspondent alexandra limon explains what the two parties need to sort out... in the next few weeks. while both republicans and democrats agreed ending the government shutdown is good not all lawmakers were impressed by the deal reached in the senate.sen. john thunei don't think it's really any different than what was agreed upon prior to the government shutting down, so i'm not sure what purpose this all served. sen. jeff merkleythe majority leaders' record of upholding promises is thin. and he's made promises to his own republican caucus members,

senator collins, senator flake, that he's never honored. alexandra limon / @alexlimonnew s key provisions of the short term spending bill include funding the government through february 8th reauthorizing the children's health insurance program for 6 years and a verbal agreement that both sides will try to come together to find a replacement for daca.if a deal isn't reached - senate majority leader mitch mcconnell promised an immigration bill will be put on the seneate floor and open to amendments. oregon amendments.to amendments.oregon congressman greg walden was unhappy that the spending bill is a week shorter than the version passed by the house last week. rep. greg waldenit gives us less time to work out an agreement. i don't know how reducing the timeframe helps. meawhile immigration activists criticized the there's no guarantee the house will vote on whatever immigration bill the senate votes on.and immigration isnt the only issue congress has to resolve. senator thunethe end game is to get not only daca, but some of the other issues, what the spending numbers are going to be for both defense and non derfense.for this next year locked in.nancy pelosiand part of the debate right now is while we support the defense investments, we also need to have the domestic investments. while a majority of democrats did vote in support of the spending bill to reopen the government some voted against it. as did two republican senators.in washingnton alexandra limon
