( robin ) happening now... police in the east bay are looking for the person who shot an otter. the otter was found at the shadelands business park in walnut creek. these are x-rays of the otter after he was taken to the lindsey wildlife experience. staff at the wildlife experience say it looks like the otter was shot several times with a b-b gun. when it was found... the otter had missing and broken teeth and was blind in one eye. experts say that the otter would not be able to hunt in the wild and they determined that the humane thing to do

( robin ) a big story we are following this morning... a man is arrested after expressing sexual interest in a toddler. it happened in redwood city earlier this week... near the main library. police say.. a father was walking by with his two-year-old daughter... when a man asked to touch the little girl. the father then called police. when they arrived... the man told them he thought the little girl was sexy. the man is identified as 46-year-old david lewis. he pleaded 'not guilty' to the charges yesterday.. lewis is being held on 50-thousand dollars bail. ( robin ) happening now... police in san ramon are looking for this man in connection with a shooting last week that sent a person to the hospital. he has been identified as 21-year-old trevor berryman from san leandro. he is wanted for attempted murder after a driver was shot on minerva way in san ramon. berryman was last seen driving this black 4-door mercedes benz.

there is no word on the condition of the victim this morning. ( robin ) in the east bay police have arrested this man after a hit-and-run crash that injured two people. we first told you abut the accident yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. benjamin jaeger (yay-ger) is accused of hitting two people as they were crossing the street on north main street in walnut creek. he is being charged with attempted homicide. the victims have already been released from the hospital. ( robin ) two police officers in south san francisco are injured while arresting two men who burglarized a business. it happened yesterday morning on the 200 block of east grand avenue. the officers found the two men trying to break into a business. the two men took off running but were later arrested. police also arrested a third man who was sitting in a getaway car. police have not said how the two officers were injured but they are okay. ( robin ) new this morning... the u-c berkeley police department is warning people after a mountain lion

was seen near the campus. a school employee reported seeing the cub near the foothill housing unit. police are telling people to avoid hiking or jogging in the area alone... especially at dusk and dawn. and if you encounter a mountain lion... make a lot of noise and try to make yourself look as big as possible. expect every package to be handled with care. we are addressing this with the delivery service provider." in danville, dan kerman kron 4 news ( robin ) an east bay man is safe this morning after a dog alerted its owner that the man was drowning. the man fell into the water near the pittsburg marina, while taking his early morning walk. the dog's barking woke his owner -- who came out to find the man struggling in the water. the owner helped pull the man out. pittsburg police posted these photos of the dog named moe -- saying the man was very grateful for his new "barking buddy." ( robin ) happening today... governor jerry brown will deliver his final state of the state address. the governor proposed a 190- billion dollar spending plan earlier this month. he's also pushing to add billions to the state's rainy day fund. today.... brown is expected talk about affordable housing... climate change... and the role the state has

( robin ) san leandro city manager chris zapata is on paid administrative leave... following accusations of sexual harassment. the city council unanimously voted to place zapata on leave tuesday night. his accuser -- rose padilla johnson -- filed a complaint with the city back in december. she says zapata tried to pressure her into a into a sexual relationship... in exchange for public funding for the organization she runs. zapata will remain on paid leave... until the city council reviews the findings from an independent investigation. drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101. ( robin ) a health warning in the east bay... the berkeley unified school district says it found lead in the drinking water at some of its schools. only one school -- willard middle school -- had lead levels exceeding state standards. five other schools had traces of lead in their water fountains... which have been shut off. here are the other school affected: berkeley high school... hopkins preschool... jefferson elementary school... john muir elementary school... leconte elementary school.

( robin ) a new survey is highlighting some of the bay area school districts as some of the best in the state. the website niche dot com looked at academics, faculty and sports as well as food and student health and safety. kron 4's catherine heenan shows us which bay area districts topped the list. palo alto's unified school district takes the crown as the top=rated in the state. more than 12=thousand students in grades k through 12, an average of one teacher for 18 students is slightly above the one=to=16 national average. palo alto teachers take home an average salary of more than 100=thousand dollars, and the per student expenditure is nearly 19=thousand dollars, fifty percent more than the national average,the los gatos=saratoga and mountain view=los altos high school districts are two and three in the bay area, and in the state. here's the local honor roll ... from tamalpais in marin couty to the albany and

piedmont city districts and three districts in contra costacounty ... acalanes in lafayette, pleasanton and san ramon valley.niche=dotcom doesn't name the worst schol districts, but it does give vallejo high school a grade of "d"only five percent of students in the working class city say they feel safe at school.just 15 percent are proficient in math, 37 percent in reading.the student teeacher ratio is 25 to one.by comparison, in the wealthy town of palo alto ... 93 percent of students feel safe, 82 percent are proficient in math, 77 percent in reading, and there are more teachers. ( robin ) the university of california is postponing its vote to raise tuition. the vote which was scheduled for yesterday will now happen in may. the board of regents says it is necessary to raise tuition to compensate

for state funding cuts. the proposed increase is just under 350- dollars a year for áin-state students. and just under - a thousand for áout-of-state students. the regents approved a similar increase last january. ( robin ) the justice department is demanding 23 cities -- including san francisco -- comply with federal immigration laws. the d-o-j sent letters to these sanctuary cities. it wants these cities to prove they are ánot withholding information on the immigration status of people in custody. this comes as mayors from across the country boycotted a meeting with president trump yesterday. now... the president has message a for these mayors. couldn't cost any more to get around on bay area freeways... bay area transportation officials approved a ballot measure that would increase bridge tolls once again. the measure will be placed on the june ballot in all nine bay area counties. the measure has 4 point 5 billion dollars worth of traffic congestion relief projects... which would be paid by increasing the tolls on the bay area's seven bridges. ( robin ) the measure

would increase bridge tolls by one dollar in 20-19... 202-2 and an once more in 20-25. ( robin ) tech giant google is moving ahead with plans to build a mega-campus in downtown san jose. that has many current residents worried about the impact it will have on housing. kron four's rob fladeboe has the details. "....we need google to show us that it come come into a community responsibly...."a coalition of south bay affordable advocates staged a rally here in the heart of google's sprawling mountain view campus. they were here giving voice to concerns about google's ambitious expansion plans in downtown san jose . maria fernandez/silicon valley rising "...we're just saying if you're coming to san jose, public land for public good, you have to make a commitment about the impact your project is going to have on the

following a car accident... nobody was hurt but the accident left money spread all over the highway. the crash involved a car and a truck- and resulted in a large amount of cash being thrown from one of the vehicles. it is not clear how much money it was but police say it came from a video game parlor. sheriff's deputy is shot to death in colorado... now a manhunt is underway for two of the people involved. one person is already in custody. authorities say deputies were called to an "assault in progress" last night and saw one of the suspects run behind a house. that's when a man pulled out a handgun and shot the deputy in the chest. the gunman was taken into custody. canadian study found the heart attack risk was six times higher in the first week after the flu is diagnosed. flu can cause swelling or inflammation in the coronary arteries... which can lead to blockages and blood flow being cut off. ( darya ) this year's flu season has been one of the worst in the last decade. 19 people have died in the bay area from the infection. and there have been at least 74 deaths in all of california. this number does ánot include people over the age of 65. sheriff's deputy is shot to death in colorado... now a manhunt is underway for two of the people involved. one person is already in custody. authorities say deputies were called to an "assault in progress" last night and saw one of the suspects run behind a house. that's when a man pulled out a handgun and shot the deputy in the chest. the gunman was taken into custody.
