( robin ) our top story this morning out of the east bay... two separate sideshows. an officer was injured at a sideshow in richmond and someone pointed a laser at a c-h-p helicopter at a sideshow in oakland. that richmond police officer is recovering this morning after being hit by a car while trying to stop one of those sideshows. and police are still looking for the driver who hit the officer. it happened early yesterday morning near marina bay parkway and reggatta boulevard. police say the
4:05 am
driver accelerated to hit the officer. the officer suffered broken bones and cuts to his head...but is expected to recover. this is being investigated as a hit-and run. police have not released a description of the driver or the car. ( robin ) and this is c- h-p helicopter video from the sideshow in oakland... there were about 200 cars near 54th avenue and international boulevard. there were fireworks being shot into the air and several reports of gunfire. police say people began using a green laser to point it at the helicopter. they were able to arrest one of the people with the laser- pointer. if convicted... he faces a fine of 11-thousand dollars per laser strike. ( robin ) we have new video this morning... showing a woman being rescued from mount tamalpais. police say she suffered major injuries on a hiking trail. they say she slipped on a wet trail and fell about 40 feet. she was hoisted into the
4:06 am
helicopter and taken to the hospital. there is no word on her condition this ( robin ) a water main break in the east bay caused minor flooding in some homes in hayward. repairs on the giant pipe are done, and the water is back on at homes where it was shut off yesterday morning. but as kron four's spencer blake reports, there's still a lot more crews have to do to get everything back to normal. it wasn't a natural disaster that caused this muddy creek to run down highland boulevard sunday....it was more of a public works disaster."i heard my mom screaming. she was like, 'the floor has fallen inwards!' she thought it was a tsunami. then i went out and i checked and i saw the floor going upwards where the pipe broke, and my whole patio filled up with water."jose magallanes and his family are some of the people who were most adversely affected by what firefighters and city crews quickly determined to be a water main break.the asphalt broke apart in some places where water gushed underground, and it was pretty
4:07 am
powerful above ground, too. "you always see big rocks going down, down the hill, so we were like, 'oh snaps!'" magallanes had water up to the top step of the porch for a couple hours, leaving everything in the front yard caked in mud.there was an inch of water in a back bedroom of their home.their neighbors had about that much in their garage, too.crews spent the afternoon cutting out the broken piece of the 12-inch pipe, and replacing it with this one.standup"though getting the actual line fixed and getting the water turned back on is a process that takes about half a day or so, the road right here will likely be torn up for several days.""they have to tear it up all the way to where the water started trenching. they have to get to the point where it's not damaged, as far as the earth that's underneath the asphalt. once they get to that point they'll be able to back fill with soil and asphalt and cover up the repairs."workers sprayed down parts of the street that aren't torn up to clear out all the mud left behind.pumps were working all day sunday.nobody got hurt, but dealing with insurance for those who homes have some damage...could be a headache of its own.in hayward, spencer

city. a white nationalist organization claimed responsibility for the sign on twitter. the group is considered a hate group by the southern poverty law center. c-h-p officials say the banner was quickly removed. ( robin ) caltrans... is investigating whether microscopic organisms are attacking critical welds on the submerged foundation of the new bay bridge tower. while engineers tell kron four there's no immediate concern about the bridge failing... an underwater survey found pockets of accelerated corrosion on welds - that bind massive piles - that hold up the foundation. experts say the corrosion suggests something besides simple rust is eating away at the steel. the problem...could potentially endanger the projected 150-year lifespan of the - six point four billion structure. ( robin ) in marin county... two people were arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol. the arrests are part of the "enough is enough"

campaign. a zero tolerance approach to drinking and driving. the first arrest happened on highway 101 in mill valley. according to the c-h-p... the man was driving about 80 miles per hour with a - four-year-old in the car. he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and child endangerment. then chp pulled a car over for swerving across lanes in novato.
