in union city are looking for this girl. she is 12- year-old tni janay grice. her father dropped her off at alvarado middle school yesterday morning and she has not been seen since. school officials say they do not know if she made it to any of her classes. she is 5 foot 3 inches tall... 110 pounds with black hair and

( robin ) a downed tree at a home on the peninsula left more than a hundred people without power ... it happened tuesday on the border of san carlos and redwood city. the tree smashed through a fence and into a backyard tearing down a powerline. power has since been restored to those homes... but one family is left with the tree in their yard and powerlines still hanging. ( robin ) we have reached out to p-g-&-e about to the downed lines left behind and have not heard back. ( robin ) a bay area acrobat is searching for answers after someone stole her 25-thousand-dollar unicycle at s-f-o. if you have been to a warriors game... you have probably seen - red panda- perform. she lives in san francisco and

does halftime shows and sports shows all across the country. surveillance video caught a man taking the unicycle from the baggage claim last week. police are trying to figure out if he stole it or took it on accident. the performer says she is hopeful he will return it to police. ( robin ) nearly 8- thousand marijuana convictions dating back to 19-75 are eligible for re-sentencing... or could be completely thrown out. on wednesday, san francisco district attorney george gascon annouced the process will now be much easier... those convicted will no longer have to come in or file any paperwork. for thousands of people, re- sentencing could mean a chance at a new life. estimates it will take up to a year to process all 8-thousand convictions. ( robin ) san francisco police have arrested a man as a part of a narcotics bust, it happened on the 600- block of eddy st. the man was in possession of cocaine and heroin when he was arrested. he is being held for possession for sale and other outstanding warrants. ( robin ) in the east bay.. police are investigating what caused a car to crash into a y-m-c-a building ... at castro valley elementary school. these are pictures of the scene from the fire department. it happened yesterday afternoon on san miguel avenue. the building is in a shared parking lot with castro valley elementary. there was only minor damage to the building... and the driver is expected to be okay. ( robin ) another big story we are folowing... outrage at a san francisco school.... after a teacher is let-go after being accused of child abuse. it is a story we first told you about yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. but... as

kron 4's justin waldman explains... parents want the teacher back in the classroom. justine waldman the san francisco school district tells me... the kindergarten teacher will not be returning to marshall elementary. but the students in his classroom will continue to receive high-quality education. some parents are outraged... and demand he get his job back.protest nats during the morning drop-off at marshal elementary, parents and former tudents protested the dismissal of well liked teacher andres tobar. tobar turned himself into police on tuesday.. and was arrested for felony child endangerment. the school district says in december he was seen cradling a student and holding the student over a second floor balcony./ parent sot he is well loved and well respected parents at the the mission district school... tell kron 4 news.. they are rallying behind the kindergartener teacher. there are reports a video exsits of him allegedly dangling the child.. christine pineda says he is like a father figure to so

hill... not on school grounds. during the investigation detectives found that gonzalez was employed as a soccer coach at oak grove high school in san jose... and south valley junior high in gilroy. ( robin ) police arrested a wanted felon after he was seen prowling on the roof of a home in palo alto. it happened on oxford avenue. a neighbor called police after seeing a man walking on the roof of their neighbor's garage. officers arrived and asked the man to get down from the roof... but he took off running in the opposite direction. he was later found hiding in some nearby bushes. he has been identified as 50-year-old mark harmon. he is being held in santa clara county jail. ( robin ) a man is arrested for impersonating a milipitas officer and sexually assaulting a woman. it happened january 16th on south main street... at the -baymont inn- in milpitas. police say the suspect -- stanley troy friesen -- met with a woman he had been chatting with online there. friesen identified himself as a police officer... and told the woman

he wanted to have sex with her. police arrested friesen in tracy. ( robin ) happening now... petaluma police are searching for a woman...accuse d of stealing credit cards from a home. these are pictures of the woman... the burglary happened between sunday night and monday morning on first street. the stolen credit cards were then used to buy more than 200- dollars worth of products at a c-v-s store in novato and other businesses. ( robin ) new this morning... voters in san francisco could be voting on a new property tax in the june election. teachers and school officials submitted more than 16-thousand signatures to get the tax placed on the ballot. the tax would raise around 50- million dollars per year. that money would go toward teacher salaries. school officials say they are experiencing a teacher shortage because of the rising housing prices in the city. the money would also go towards new technology to be used in the classroom. the the proposed tax would be set

at just under 300 dollars for eligible properties. ( robin ) in the east bay... the alta bates medical center in berkeley will stay open for at least the next 10 years. sutter health made the announcement yesterday. there had been rumors that the facility could close as soon as next year. those rumors led to protests outside of the hospital. there are still plans to close the facility eventually. sutter health says the closure is to avoid the cost of upgrading the building to meet the state's earthquake standards. when it closes it will merge with the summit medile center in oakland. ( robin ) bart is launching a new pilot program to help keep riders better informed about train delays and updated departure times. bart is placing digital screens above the fare gates at the civic center station in san francisco. the idea is to let you know if your train is delayed before you by a ticket so you can make other plans if necessary. the program is expected to cost around 130-thousand dollars. bart says if the

(estacio) as of right now, multiple investigations into this fire. there has been some criticism of the emergency system for alerts, but late this afternoon, we received word from that the community warning system functioned properly during this fire. still you heard the mayor, he is going to be looking into all aspects of this situation.

this man, 28 year old carlos humberto paz, of oakland, is the key figure in what the authorities had named 'operation million dollar baby." paz and eight other people from oakland, san jose and san francisco are facing charges in connection with a scheme to steal laptop computers and ship them to vietnam. led by fremont police, the multi agency unit linked a rash of vehicle break ins and laptop thefts dating back to december, to an oakland street gang that hit commercial shopping centers and parking lots across the bay area and beyond. the break in the case came when carlos paz, the alleged fence, or broker of the stolen merchandise, was linked to a storage container in san jose where the laptops were re-sold to other co-conspirators for shipment to vietnam in two different ways. lt. mike tegner/fremont police"...we sspotted police"...we sspotted several people loading stolen

serial numbers of their laptops when theytry to claim them. in fremont rob fladeboe kron 4 news ( robin ) san jose city leaders have to voted remove a statue of christopher columbus from the city hall lobby. some people were offended by the statue... saying it glorified the decimation of indigenous people. earlier this month san francisco replaced the columbus day holiday... with indigenous peoples day. ( robin ) the two suspects accused of hitting a richmond police officer with a car during a sideshow are now facing felony charges. juan vargas is facing charges of attempted murder of a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon. genesis castaneda was charged with conspiracy.. the incident happened during an illegal sideshow last sunday. when richmond police arrived police say vargas accelerated and hit an officer who got out of his ( robin ) we know now the name of the pilot killed in a plane crash in the east bay. he's christopher ram-poldt of martinez. investigators

say he was flying the small-engine plane when it crashed in concord on monday morning. the cessna left buchanan field airport around 9:30 in the morning... and crashed at the military ocean terminal. so far... no witnesses have come forward. federal investigators are still trying to figure out what went wrong. ( robin ) a woman is recovering after a vicious pit bull attack in vallejo. this happened january 19th on broadway street. that's when the woman says she was surprised by a pit bull. the dog jumped up and bit both of her arms. the victim was hospitalized for three weeks. no word yet on if the pit bull's owner... has been contacted by police. ( robin ) oakland police have spent 6- million dollars on a computer program to track officer misconduct. but it's not running smoothly. the program was court ordered... after a former teen prostitute was paid nearly one- million dollars to settle a case against the city last year. but a court- appointed monitor says the computer program is plagued by

fine, it wasn't to find burned of christmas trees and, trees waiting to be burned on this day there were volunteers from a san francisco middle school who were tasked with cleaning up ocean beach 'where they recovered everything from broken glass to yea, that's like an auxiliary cord that's just garbage.. but what i found was burnt remnants all over the beach this is a christmas tree which did not completely burn and of course lots of larger chunks of burned wood. here is a bigger problem some people are burying the fires which many seem like a smart thing to do, but what happens is that the you end up with hot sand which could burn your foot why don't people just not burn their trees that's a very good question i don't understand that you know you should be able to burn your christmas tree somewhere maybe they should host that last year i say a christmas tree on fire right in the middle of the street the pits will return march 1 . until then the parks service says not

bonfires in san francisco stanley roberts kron 4 news ( robin ) across the state... insurance claims from fire victims has reached 12-billion dollars. the majority of those claims come from people effected by the tubbs fire that destroyed parts of napa and sonoma counties.... including much of santa rosa. but these totals may continue to rise as more people finish their paperwork. california's insurance commissioner says that the fires damaged or destroyed 32- thousand homes and more than 4- thousand businesses. ( robin ) two people are behind bars... accused of posing as members of a clean-up company in fire- stricken sonoma county. they were arrested tuesday in the burned areas of mark west springs. an alert neighbor called deputies after seeing a suspicious-looking truck. deputies arrested verda roser... and allyn sullivan. they say the pair wore hard hats and reflective vests... and were carrying stolen metal. in sf, something stinks at the epa , at city hall, at the state and at the navy yard. environmental groups and bayview residents up in arms over the navy's admission that two thirds of the 450 acre hunters point shipyard development project must be retested for contamination because the contractor doing the original tests for toxins may have falsified resultssot derek robinson/hunters point environmental coordinator 26-35 we are planning on taking data from every place where tetra tech worked to show the property is safe or not, if we need to do additional work we will find that out as wellthe navy says its retesting will include soil sampling, radiological scanning, as well as excavations. but environmental groups accuse the navy of dragging its feet over the last several years and only now recognizing the fraud.sot steven castleman/golden gate university law professor 50-59 the navy did not want to know and we are here to tell the navy we know, we are not going anywhere, , we are going to follow their cleanup extremely closely to make sure they don't screw up yet againwhile ultimately thousands of homes are planned for the hunters point site just these homes have already been constructed

toyota is recalling about 645- thousand cars because of problems with the air bags they are trying to fix an electrical problem that could prevent air bags from inflating in a crash. the recall includes 15 different models...two of which are lexus models... all were produced from may 2015 to march 2016. dealers will check serial numbers on airbag sensors and replace them for free if necessary. ( robin ) changes being made to facebook are causing users to spend less time on the site. founder mark zuckerberg says the changes to content... specifically the decision to show fewer viral videos... has led to a 5- percent drop in the amount of time people spend on the site. the company also reported its first drop in the number of daily users in the u-s. but zuckerburg insits that the changes will ultimately improve the user experience. movie isn't even in theaters yet... and it's already giving other superhero movies a run for their money. according to fandango... "black panther" is outpacing all superhero movies in advance ticket sales. fandango reported wednesday the movie topped daily ticket sales in the wake of its world premiere monday night. "black panther" hits theaters february 16th. ( robin ) monopoly is releasing a special 'cheaters' edition of the classic game. in this version... fans are encouraged to play dirty. the goal is to not get caught. the new game will include several tasks for players to complete. if you can successfully cheat your way to getting them done...you'll get rewards. but if you get caught-- you could end up wearing a handcuff that literally chains you to the game. the cheaters edition

( darya ) police arrested a wanted felon after he was seen prowling on the roof of a home in palo alto. it happened on oxford avenue. a neighbor called police after seeing a man walking on the roof of their neighbor's garage. officers arrived and asked the man to get down from the roof... but he took off running in the opposite direction. he was later found hiding in some nearby bushes. he has been

( james ) oakland police have spent 6- million dollars on a computer program to track officer misconduct. but it's not running smoothly. the program was court ordered... after a former teen prostitute was paid nearly one- million dollars to settle a case against the city last year. but a court- appointed monitor says the computer program is plagued by data collection errors. it's supposed to track officer conduct... including how often officers use guns and take part in pursuits. ( james ) a woman is recovering after a vicious pit bull attack in vallejo. this happened january 19th on broadway street. that's when the woman says she was surprised by a pit bull. the dog jumped up and bit both of her arms. the victim was hospitalized for three weeks. no word yet on if the pit bull's owner... has been contacted by police. building ... at castro valley elementary school. these are pictures of the scene from the fire department. it happened yesterday afternoon on san miguel avenue. the building is in a shared parking lot with castro valley elementary. there was only minor damage to the building... and the driver is expected to be okay. ( darya ) new this morning... in the east bay... the alta bates medical center in berkeley will stay open for at least the next 10 years. sutter health made the announcement yesterday. there had been rumors that the facility could close as soon as next year. those rumors led to protests outside of the hospital. there are still plans to close the facility eventually. sutter health says the closure is to avoid the cost of upgrading the building to meet the state's earthquake standards. when it closes it will merge with the summit medical center in oakland. ( james ) bart is launching a new pilot program to help keep riders better informed about train delays and updated departure times. bart is placing digital screens above the fare gates

( darya ) new this morning... in the east bay... the alta bates medical center in berkeley will stay open for at least the next 10 years. sutter health made the announcement yesterday. there had been rumors that the facility could close as soon as next year. those rumors led to protests outside of the hospital. there are still plans to close the facility eventually. sutter health says the closure is to avoid the cost of upgrading the building to meet the state's earthquake standards. when it closes it will merge with the summit medical center in oakland. thousand marijuana convictions dating back to 19-75 are eligible for re-sentencing... or could be completely thrown out. on wednesday, san francisco district attorney george gascon annouced the process will now be much easier... those convicted will no longer have to come in or file any paperwork. for thousands of people, re- sentencing could mean a chance at a new life. ( darya ) the d-a's office estimates it will take up to a year to process all 8-thousand convictions. ( james ) across the state... insurance claims from fire victims has reached

from a home. these are pictures of the woman... the burglary happened between sunday night and monday morning on first street. the stolen credit cards were then to buy more than 200-dollars worth of products at a c-v-s store in novato and other businesses. ( darya ) new this morning... people in san francisco could be voting on a new property tax in the june election. teachers and school officials submitted more than 16-thousand signatures to get the tax on the ballot. the tax would raise around 50-million dollars per year. that money would go toward teacher salaries. school officials say they are experiencing a teacher shortage because of rising housing prices in the city. the money would also go towards new technology to be used in the classroom. the the proposed tax would be set at just under 300 dollars for eligible properties. ( darya ) also in the east bay... police in fremont arrest multiple people linked to a lap top theft ring.( james ) kron 4's rob fladeboe has the details. this man, 28 year old carlos humberto paz, of oakland, is the key figure in what the authorities had named 'operation million dollar baby." paz and eight other people from oakland, san jose and san francisco are facing charges in connection with a scheme to steal laptop computers and ship them to vietnam. led by fremont police, the multi agency unit linked a rash of vehicle break ins and laptop thefts dating back to december, to an oakland street gang that hit commercial shopping centers and parking lots across the bay area and beyond. the break in the case came when carlos paz, the alleged fence, or broker of the stolen merchandise, was linked to a storage container in san jose where the laptops were re-sold

( james ) stanford university is canceling plans to put a plaque on campus -- where a woman was sexually assaulted by former school swimmer -- brock turner. stanford dropped the plague because of a quote. the victim decided not to participate... after the school rejected the two quotes she offered them. the university wanted to turn the site of the rape into a garden and contemplative space. but the school said the victim's quotes were inappropriate... and could potentially upset other victims. and she rejected three quotes suggested by the university. ( james ) san jose city leaders have voted remove a statue of christopher columbus from the city hall lobby.

( darya ) two people are dead... following a tanker truck explosion in placer county. it happened yesterday morning along highway 20 near cisco grove. a tow truck was going north on the highway when it veered into the southbound lane... crashing into the tanker truck filled with gasoline... causing a fiery explosion. both drivers died. police it's unclear what caused that tow truck driver to swerve.
