(catherine) and i'm catherine heenan in for vicki liviakis. bart says it's investigating... the woman took to social media to tell her story. as kron four's terisa estacio reports - many other bart riders are now sharing their own safety concerns. (terisa estacio reporting0a bart spokesperson tells kron four news that they are pulling surveillance video at the time of the report to try and zero in on a suspect(take vo)according to reports, the rider boarded a train at the 16th and mission station - dozed off and that is when the lewd sexual attack alledgely occurred. a bart spokesperson says they have reached out to the female rider and the bart police department is talking with her. rider that is horrible. bart riders friday expressed their condolences to the female rider for having to endure such a violation. rebecca benkowitz. it is horrifying, unethical, testament to the metoo movement. just last week, kron four news told you about a woman who found drug needles on a seat. others shared their safety concerns while rid bart rider. last week actually, a man was cussing at a woman and i was with my niece and tried to protect her from hearing that stuff. i am always strategic when i ride

(catherine) a woman is dead after falling down an escalator at the montgomery street bart station. the 51-year-old from oakland...fell last night just after 10:00. bart officials say there does not appear to be any evidence of foul play in her death. (grant) wall street suffered its worst day of the trump presidency. the dow closed down nearly 666 points. its biggest percentage decline since brexit in june of 2016...and the steepest drop since the 2008 financial crisis. a strong jobs report showed wage growth is finally starting to pick up. while that's great news for workers, it reinforced investors' concern about inflation and the bond market. market analysts attributed some of today's drop to the clash between the trump

( grant ) today - immigrant rights supporters held a news conference in san francisco to make sure employers and their employees know their rights before agreeing to be audited... kron4's haaziq madyun has the story sotit is a federal i-9 audit or inspection. it requires employers to verify the identity and employment eligibility of their employees. these i-9 audits and inspections are conducted by federal immigration and custom enforcement officers nat/sot leaders from san francisco's faith, labor and state law maker community held a press conference outside sf's federal immigration building to make sure employers and their employees know their rights if ice agents show up

(catherine) documents released by the california legislature show that fourlawmakers have faced sexual misconduct complaints since 2006...and none were formally punished. the documents were released today..they reference democratic assemblywoman autumn burke, republican assemblyman travisallen, democratic senator tony mendoza and democratic senator bon hertzberg. burke acknowledged taking part in an inappropriate discussion about sex last year.. hertzberg was accused of grabbing a staff member in 2015.. allen was accused of inappropriately touching a female staffer in 2013 but says he doesn't

(catherine) flu hospitalizations and deaths are still on the rise... as this particularly rough flu season continues.. the c-d-c reported today an additional 16 pediatric flu deaths. the total number of children killed by the virus so far this season stands at 53 48 states are reporting widespread flu activity. the c-d-c says that as bad as it is -- the wave of flu cases has not yet peaked. (catherine) in the north bay.... sonoma county has now reported its first flu death this season. it's reported at least a dozen severe cases of the flu in adults under 65....but until now, no deaths. here's look at flu-related deaths in the bay area.. there have been seven in contra costa county. five in solano... three in alameda... one in both marin and sonoma...

(grant ots) to the south bay now...where we have an update on a story we've been following in a cash strapped school district. kron four's rob fladeboe reports now that the oak grove school district in san jose will be closing three elementary schools this fall. it was a sad day here at del robles elementary where some parents were only just hearing thenews as school let out. the oak grove school district board voted thursday to close three elementary schools, del robles, glider elementary and george miner elementary. shaun tanner has three kids at del robles.shaun tanner/parent "...it's disheartening, it's sad. whenever you uproots the kids and take away their friends, it's sad and it's going to be that way until june..."the district said the closures were needed to help offset a projected 12 million dollarbudget deficit. in a statement, superintendent jose manza said the action will help to maximize diminishing

(catherine) a new report says that nearly half the state of california is already feeling the effects of another drought.. the u.s. drought monitor says that more than 24 million californians are in some form of drought right now. that does 'not' currently include the bay area. still -- it's been a dry year statewide....and everyone's hoping the tail end of the rainy season will help...(doug carlson, department of water resources): "it's way too soon to be alarmed by the lack of rainfall so far. and we just have to keep on watching to see what mother nature delivers to us." the latest sierra snow survey was disappointing -- only about 14- percent of average. there's hope for wet weather the rest of february and march.

(grant) the arizona man who sold ammunition to the gunman in the las vegas mass shooting has been charged with manufacturing armor-piercing bullets. douglas haig admitted tuesday that he did sell ammunition to stephen paddock, who killed 58 people at a country music festival. haig says his one-time customer didn't raise any suspicions that he planned to commit crimes. he met paddock at a phoenix gun show in the weeks before the october 1st shooting. today - haig described selling him the ammunition.

what's making news tonight in your neighborhood.(grant) happening now in the east bay.... police are on the hunt for at least one person who shot and injured two people in west oakland. it happened around 9:30 saturday night on filbert street near seventh street in west oakland. police say at least one person opened fire on a group of five people. two men in that group were hit. police say the men managed to get themselves to the hospital - and are in stable condition. (catherine) in the south bay... the oak grove school district in san jose is losing three of its elementary

schools. the district is shutting down del roble, glider and miner elementary schools. the families affected will get letters with their children's new school assignments.... school officials say they know the decision is painful....but say it's necessary for the district to remain financially sound. the valley's high cost of housing is blamed in part for a drop in student enrollment. (grant) a former temporary employee at a santa rosa fo0d- manufacturing company was arrested for vandalism and arson at the business. police say 24-year-old brandon gossett set a small fire at amy's kitchen on northpoint parkway last month. it caused signifant damage...estimated at more than 60-thousand dollars. evidence at the scene led them to gossett...who lost his job a few days áafterá the fire. a man is stabbed after a fight with a group of people in santa rosa. it happened just before 4 a-m at a parking lot near sebastopol

road. police say the victim got into an argument with several people and then started to fight one of them. that's when someone in the group stabbed him. the victim was taken to the hospital and treated. no one has been arrested yet. (catherine) on the peninsula... a mountain lion was spotted this week in redwood city... police said they got calls about the animal -- near james and harrison avenues. and say that it was not aggressive or injured....and in fact ran away after being spotted. on our website....we have advice on how to stay safe when encountering mountain lions. (steve) here's james dinan with some food tips to keep your party going in today's health minute. super bowl sundays are full of fun, food, friends and football.but they can also be full of germs that you don't want to pass around.the centers for disease control and prevention suggest tackling that buffet table at your party,so food poising doesn't ruin the fun.make sure it's clean and not contaminated with old food that could contain bacteria. wash your hands and cutting boards.keep foods such as raw chicken, hamburger meats and hot dogs away from one another to avoid cross contamination and cook everything well.make sure chicken wings reach a minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees fahrenheit and that any ground beef items reaches 160 degrees.as far as
