( marty ) we beginning with breaking news this morning... two people are dead and at least 70 are injured ... after an amtrak train crashed with a freight train in south carolina. police say the injuries range from scratches ... to broken bones. the amtrak train was travelling from new york to miami. there were eight crew members and 139 passengers on board.

police say about 5-thousand gallons of fuel spilled. the n-t-s-b is investigating the cause of the crash. ( marty )back here in the bay area. a new report highlights the major problems concerning sex workers at illegal massage parlors. kron 4's ella sogomonian says the report points out that some of the biggest problems are in san francisco and san jose. anti-human trafficking organzation 'polaris' found an average of around 200 illicit massage parlors in both san francisco and san jose each.a task force with the city of san francisco is actively combatting the problem - but with a major hurdle.sot: vanessa russell, love never fails// "many will not come forward becasue it's the only income they have and also for fear of being deported in a way that criminalizes them."in the last three years the report shows san francisco shut down 400 of the parlors. they do this by using code enformcent inspections to

check in on businesses that stand out. polaris lists some of the warning signs are extremely low prices compared to the average in the area, late night hours, clientele based mostly on men, covered windows, and an appearance that the employees are either living at the parlor or are being brought to work in groups. traffickers also take to the internet using sites like wechat and kakaotalk to recruit victims.sot: vanessa russell, love never fails// "to reach them in their native language offer them a job that is very differnt from what they are experiencing so certainly there is an opportunity to do some digital stings."although this is a billion dollar industry polaris reports law enforcement generally don't have enough resources to dedicate fully to the problem. but there is something they can do...instead of criminalizing the victims the study suggests they provide a local contact within their culture so they are more likely to come forward and get help. another large sideshow this morning in oakland. police cited numerous drivers and towed a number vehicles. police reported the sideshow around 2 o'clock this morning ... in the area of high street and foothill boulevard near fremont high school. according to police, spectators broke windows of businesses and threw bottles at officers. ( marty ) an update to a story we first brought you yesterday morning. a man seen carrying an assault-style rifle in pleasant hill ... has been arrested. it all started friday night.police say they received reports of the man at an apartment complex on boyd road in pleasant hill. authorities say the suspect was carrying assault rifle and wearing a bullet-proof vest. police put the area on lock down for several hours as they searched for him. authorities tracked him down at the same apartment complex yesterday. police say the 33-year-old suspect is mentally ill and is receiving treatment at a hospital. he is also now

facing weapons violations. ( marty ) also in the east bay ... hundreds, who want to keep the alta bates medical center open ... showed up at a forum in berkeley. sutter health confirmed a hospital closure, saying it could take up to ten years. but some who live in berkeley want the facility to stay open. the current plan is to close the hospital's inpatient and emergency room and shift them to a nearby expanded oakland hospital. critics argue that alta bates provides much needed care for those who live between vallejo and oakland. the mayor of berkeley agrees. ( marty ) city officials say they have reached out to other hospitals about relocating to berkeley. but are focused on keeping alta bates open. for the aids memorial run at civic center plaza. hundreds more came out to cheer on the runners. the event ... is meant to remember those who died from aids ... and to reflect on the major progress that has been accomplished in the 28 years since the race was established. morning.. things are heating in the san francisco mayor's race. kron 4's hermela aregawi was there as hundreds of people showed up at city hall to the hear from some of the candidates. san franciscans came out in droves to hear from the people that want to be their next mayor.five of the 8 candidates showed up to this open forum and were all well-received. ahimsa sumchai/supports mark leno for mayori think we should all be very very proud of all these candidates.nick panagopoulos/san franciscoone of the things that stood out

station in san francisco. police say a man assaulted another man with an unidentified object. kendricx man-ansala ... was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. the second incident... was at the san leandro station. there ... kirby cabrera was arrested... accused of assaulting a victim with a weapon. game in minnesota but they are going to be in philadelphia for the game. good luck to them. speaking of football today was a big one for former 49ers great terrell owens who was elected to the nfl hall of fame. owens was with the san francisco 49ers from 1996 to 2003. he was snubbed by the hall of fame voters last year and the year before. his stats are no doubt hall of fame but there have been questions throughout his career about his attitude. many arguiing that he didn't deserve to be voted in because he was more about him than the team. in 16 years he had 156 touchdowns and close to 16-thousand yards receiving. former raider and niner randy moss was elected to the hall of fame saturday as well. probably best known for his time with the minnesota vikings. moss had 156

(marty) we're following breaking news out of taiwan... a 6.1 earthquake has hit off of taiwan's east coast this morning. the epicenter was relatively shallow at a depth of five miles. as of right now ... there are no injuries or damages reported. ( marty ) in the east bay... it has been a month since an 18-year-old girl was killed while crossing the street. police are still looking for the person who was driving the car that night. kron four's philippe djegal reports from oakland. where the teen was remembered yesterday by her family. ( marty ) benecia police arrested three people in an investigation of an illegal gaming business. it happened on columbus parkway near interstate 780. police say the suspects had games where people can allegedly gamble on computers that ran slot machine-style games. during the sweep... officers found also found weapons, methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. the three people are facing drug and gambling charges.. manager, paul manafort. manafort filed the lawsuit last month, after special counsel robert mueller charged him with money laundering. the suit claims that mueller overstepped his authority when he brought the charges. but the justice department replied to the judge that the lawsuit is only trying to interfere with mueller's investigation. mueller is looking into possible collusion between the trump campaign and russia. ( marty ) for the first time ... we're hearing from the former state worker who triggered a false alarm about a missile heading for hawaii. he's known only as employee one. he says he was positive the attack was real. he says the alert was supposed to be on speaker phone ... but someone picked up the receiver, so he missed the first part of the message. ( marty ) an update to a story we first brought you yesterday morning. a man seen carrying an assault-style rifle in pleasant hill ... has been arrested. it all started friday night.police say they received reports of the man at an apartment complex on boyd road in pleasant hill. authorities say the suspect was carrying assault rifle and wearing a bullet-proof vest. police put the area on lock down for several hours as they searched for him. authorities tracked him down at the same apartment complex yesterday. police say the 33-year-old suspect is mentally ill and is receiving treatment at a hospital. he is also now facing weapons violations.

( marty ) in national news. the department of justice is asking a judge to drop a lawsuit by president trump's former campaign manager, paul manafort. manafort filed the lawsuit last month, after special counsel robert mueller charged him with money laundering. the suit claims that mueller overstepped his authority when he brought the charges.

( marty ) also in the east bay ... hundreds, who want to keep the alta bates medical center open ... showed up at a forum in berkeley. sutter health confirmed a hospital closure, saying it could take up to ten years. but some who live in berkeley want the facility to stay open. the current plan is to close the hospital's inpatient and emergency room and shift them to a nearby expanded oakland hospital. critics argue that alta bates provides much needed care for those who live between vallejo and oakland. the mayor of berkeley agrees.

board a spirit airlines flight after they were told to tone it down. instead of toning it down those on board broke out their "fly, eagles fly" fight song. this flight was actually leaving los angeles saturday morning in route to philadelphia. so these folks aren't even going to the game in minnesota but they are going to be in philadelphia for the game. good luck to them. speaking of football today was a big one for former 49ers great terrell owens who was elected to the nfl hall of fame. owens was with the san francisco 49ers from 1996 to 2003. he was snubbed by the hall of fame voters last year and the year before. his stats are no doubt hall of fame but there have been questions throughout his career about his attitude. many arguiing that he didn't deserve to be voted in because he was more about him than the team. in 16 years he had 156 touchdowns and close to 16-thousand yards receiving.
