i'm grant lodes.(vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis. the crash involved a dump truck hauling debris from the firezone... the cause is still under investigation. it all happened right in middle of one of the hardest hit commercial areas from the october firestorm..at the intersection of fountaingrove parkway and mendocino avenue. kron4's maureen kelly talked to an eyewitness who helped pull some of the survivors to safety. i could a got killed, i came a split-second from that truck hit me.here's the charred and broken down remains of the dump truck that larry broderick says appeared to be out of control as it entered the intersection just as he cleared it.where would i get to the intersection powell that ford pick up truck gets hit, spun around, the ford pick up truck hits the the bronco then the truck continues up the road and hits everything up therehere's what left of the front end of that first truck that was hit...the eyewitness says the female driver appeared pinned behind the steering wheel.he says the dump truck was leaking fuel as it continued up the overpass, colliding with seven other vechiles and fire soon

followed........six of the 10 vehicles involved were burned. with the help of other bystanders on the scene larry urged some of the dazed drivers to get out of their burning vehicles.... but the occupants of this mini van had to be pulled out. we got the guy in the dog out but the lady was trapped the construction guys that came to help me help pull the door open, the steering wheel off of her and pushed her seatbelt back and got her outthe fact that these charred cars are sitting just feet away from the burned up remains of the journey's end mobile home park and across the road from where the fountaingrove inn used to stand was not lost on larry. it's all symbolic and tied together that's why i jumped out of my car and said let's save some lives and any citizen should do that lots of words being thrown around but i'm just an average guy that wants to save peoplethe us army corp of engineers says the dump truck belongs a subcontracor of ecc, the burlingame company that is the main contractor involved in the clean up of the october fires. it appears at the time of the crash that it was fully loaded with firezone debris which will likely factor in to

(vicki) in the south bay... one of the largest homeless encampments in san jose is being cleaned out. and homeless activists showed up to protest. the camp is located on felipe avenue... right off of highway 101... near interstate 6-80. caltrans started clearing the area at 4:00 this morning. the land belongs to caltrans... so they are clearing the homeless out. about 100 people showed up this morning to protest... and support the people living there. they say the city as well as the tech companies are not doing enough to address homelessness

sandy perry/community activist--there are hundreds of thousands of new jobs created by these tech companies and hardly any new housing units. meanwhile the number of homeless continue to go up. we believe the tech companies need to take responsibility for the social problems they create.(vicki) caltrans says a homelessness task force has been out at the site every day since the people living their received evacuation notices. that task force has been helping those people find support services and shelter. (grant) easily the largest homeless camp in the south bay, the sprawling array of tents, tarps and piles of trash are are all too visible from vehicles passing by on the 680 - - 101 interchange. (vicki) now comes the task of cleaning up a mess that one crew member described as nothing short of"shocking." kron four's rob fladeboe toured the camp and joins us now live from the scene. rob? (rob live) i'm here on felipe avenue where caltrans

(disinfectant being sprayed) caltrans has it's work cut out in the days ahead. this is the north end of an encampment that stretches from i-280 near 7th street south to story road and has been spilling into some neighboring areas. the amount of tents, tarps and other items accumulated by roughly 70 campers in the past six months is staggering says caltrans. raquel johnson/caltransfull body coveralls and dust masks are standard equipment for this crew which is spraying bleach across the camp and scouting for other hazrads, like this syringe, one of many to be seen here along with plenty of evidence there are no bathrooms.raquel
