( marty ) we begin this morning with breakiing news... 71 people are dead after a plane crashed southeast of moscow. here are new pictures of debris from the crash. russia's emergencies ministry says ... those on board included... 65 passengers and

six crew members. the plane disappeared shortly after it took off from moscow. ( marty ) back here in the states ... at least three people have died after a helicopter crashed in the grand canyon. it happened yesterday afternoon. police say the chopper was carrying a pilot and six passengers. it reportedly crashed near quartermaster canyon. rescue efforts are becoming difficult to due rugged terrain and poor conditions. the national transportation safety board is investigating. ( marty )closer to home now ... new this morning. an unoccupied classic car caught fire after it was hit by a train in atherton.the crash happened just after 8 o'clock last night ... at the railroad crossing at fairoaks lane. firefighters rushed to put out the fire burning the 1950's austin healey. investigators say the car stalled and the driver got out ... before it was hit by a caltrain and dragged to its stopping point at watkins

( marty ) a u-c berkeley student is out of jail ... after he was detained by ice for nearly three weeks. an online campaign helped raise money for his bail. luis mora used additonal funds from that campaign to bail out others in the same jail. kron 4's ella sogomonian met with his immigration attorney and has more. undocumented cal student luis mora was arrested at a border patrol checkpoint in san diego county back in december.he was released after spending three weeks held at otay mesa detention center.his attorney said that was unusual for someone without a criminal history.an online campaign raised 15 thousand dollars for bail.his bond only cost 1500. so he helped free three other detainees with the rest of the money.sot: prerna lal, immigration attorney// "we worked with an attorney down in san deigo who had assisted briefly with luis's case to identify clients she had who

she had won bond for but who had not been able to pay bond for their release. some had been detained for a year others for almost two years." their last names were released for privacy concerns but his attorney says they were a man named juan from mexico, a grandmother name virginie from haiti, and another man named frankling from honduras.... all of which are strangers to mora.sot: prerna lal, immigration attorney// "people were just overwhelmed and in tears and so joyful and showed so much gratitude in terms of luis paying their bond. someone they have never met." ( marty ) ( marty ) in the east bay... the coast guard rescued dozens of people after a water taxi ran aground.. it happened near the berkeley marina. the coast guard tells us the boat got stuck on a reef. they rescued all

43 people on board. this happened yesterday afternoon. crews used two small rescue boats... dropping the passengers back on land at the berkeley marina. no injuries were reported.

( marty ) it's that time of year... girl scout cookies are for sale. some innovative scouts set up shop in front of a cannabis dispernsary. kron four's philippe djegal went to find out how sales are going this year, now that recreational marijuana is legal. nats- "hi, would you like to buy girl scout cookies?" four years ago...nats- "thank you. my pleasure. thank you." 17-year-old danielle lei (lay) started selling girl scouts cookies outside the apothecarium cannabis dispensary in san francisco's castro district. this year -- she's outside the apothecarium in the marina neighborhood.danielle lei/girl scout- "they've been really, really nice." lei says she sets-up outside dispensaries with her mom, in part, because she knows many patients want the sugar.danielle lei/girl scout- "i mean, i guess. but it's also just like any other spot." her goal, this year, is to sell 600 boxes of

while selling her girl scout cookies, a young girl accidently became separated from her mother. officers responded and found the missing girl, still selling cookies. the officers then reuntied her with her mom... and also bought a box of samoas. ( marty ) in the south bay... san jose police are warning everyone about child porn being shared on facebook messenger. police have received multiple reports about a video. and want to remind everyone that sharing a sexually explicit video involving a child is a crime. even if you're trying to help catch the people responsible. police are asking those who come across the video to report it before deleting it. ( marty ) we often think of dreamers as college students, but there are thousands of educators who are also at risk of deporation. many of them are right here in the bay area. kron 4's haaziq madyun tells us how one dreamer wants to focus on giving back to her oakland community. nat/sot haaziq what am i looking at there?sotjoanna santillian was 5-years-old when this photo was taken. she was the same age when her parents brought her to oakland from mexico back in 1998 which makes her a deffered action for childhood arrival or daca recipient and a dreamer. this is the only country she knows

some lanes in the macarthur maze will be closed this weekend and next... so crews can do surveying work. today... the far left lane on westbound interstate 580 to westbound interstate 80 will be closed from six a.m. to noon. and next saturday... the second-from-left lane on westbound interstate 80 to southbound interstate 880...will be closed from six a.m. to noon. the survey work... is part of an upcoming project that will raise the veritcal clearances on bridges to the current standard of 16 point five feet. ( marty ) former renters at the journey's end mobile home park in santa rosa are concerned by reports that the owner intends to sell the property. much of it was destroyed during the north bay firestorm. residents have had to find temporary housing while they search for permanent solutions. we reached out to co-owner of the property -- ramsey shuayto -- who said they're not neccessarily looking to sell the property. he told us they're partnering with

burbank housing to replace 160 units that are in poor shape with affordable housing, and that the family hopes to keep a stake in the property. it's unclear how this will affect former residents. ( marty ) san francisco police need your help in catching a thief who robbed a taxi driver in the inner richmond neighborhood. this is surveillance video showing the robbery. the driver picked a man up just after 1 a.m. last month outside a bar. the suspect grabbed the driver's bag....there was a struggle as the driver tried to stop him. the man eventually broke free and got away with the driver's possessions. the suspects is described as a latino man in his 20's, 5'10, 180 pounds. ( marty ) three people are in jail for selling drugs in novato. police received reports earlier this month about drug activity at a house on kenwood court. police got a search warrant...and stopped a man leaving the house. authorities say he was in possession of meth.

they also found others in and around the house including a 10-year-old child. police say a large amount of meth and other drugs were found in the house. ( marty ) a step towards justice for the families of two sacramento officers killed by an undocumented immigrant. you may remember luis bracamontes who went on a crime spree in 2014 ... which led to the deaths of deputy daniel oliver and detective michael davis. the twice deported and undocumented immigrant was found guilty on two counts of first degree murder. bracamontes' smiled when he heard the verdict on friday. as he left the court room, bracamontes pledged to kill again. next up isthe sentencing for bracamontes. lawyers plan to argue his use of methamphetamine impacted his judgement and that his life should be spared. ( marty ) the "sacramento city unified school district" is investigating how a project correlating low intelligence with minority groups was allowed to be on display at a science fair this week. a

high school student enrolled in an elite magnet program titled the project "race and i-q"... it questioned whether certain races lack the intelligence for challenging class work. it was removed wednesday after students, parents, and staff were outraged by the project. ( marty ) the school principal, released a statement saying quote... i want to be clear that at mcclatchy high school we promote and embrace an inclusive environment and way of thinking which excludes any form of discrimination... we are taking this incident very seriously. and we will be reviewing the incident and implementing all measures as appropriate to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all of our students. ( marty ) a couple in the east bay was anxious for days... after their engagment ring was accidentally flushed down the toilet. the couple called a plumber to find the 10-thousand dollar ring.but after a couple of hours of searching ... no luck ... and the plumber gave up. thankfully, neighbors came together to help them . and after 30 hours of digging

president trump took to twitter... to discuss the democratic intelligence memo. the president tweeted: "the democrats sent a very political and long response memo which they knew, because of sources and methods (and more), would have to be heavily redacted, whereupon they would blame the white

house for lack of transparency. told them to re-do and send back in proper form!" the president said friday he won't release the democratic rebuttal at this time. it was written by california representative adam schiff, and claims to rebut the nunes memo, which democrats say is misleading and omits key facts. happened just after 8 o'clock last night ... at the railroad crossing at fairoaks lane. firefighters rushed to put out the fire burning the 1950's austin healey. investigators say the car stalled and the driver got out ... before it was hit by a caltrain and dragged to its stopping point at watkins avenue.300 people were on the train at the time. no one was injured.the scene is cleared this morning. ( marty ) a u-c berkeley student is out of jail ... after he was detained by ice for nearly three weeks. an online campaign helped raise money for his bail. luis mora used additonal funds from that campaign to bail out others in the same jail. kron 4's ella sogomonian met with his immigration attorney and has more. undocumented cal student luis mora was arrested at a border patrol checkpoint in san diego county back in december.he was released after spending three weeks held at otay mesa detention center.his attorney said that was unusual for someone without a criminal history.an online campaign

( marty ) in the east bay... the coast guard rescued dozens of people after a water taxi ran aground.. it happened near the berkeley marina. the coast guard tells us the boat got stuck on a reef. they rescued all 43 people on board. this happened yesterday afternoon. crews used two small rescue boats... dropping the passengers back on land at the berkeley marina. no injuries were reported.

police have arrested a woman for stealing mail. she is michelle duarte of morgan hill an officer responded to the area of butterfield boulevard and san pedro avenue friday evening . the officer found a woman carrying two packages under her arm. she told police she was trying to return the packages to her friend's neighbor... but she was walking away from the address on the packages. officers returned the items and booked duarte into santa clara county ( marty ) two people were badly injured in the east bay after their car rolled off the side of a road. it happened on patterson pass road in livermore yesterday morning. the two were ejected from the car during the accident. one has life- threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital. the other is also in the hospital this morning with unknown condition. no word on the cause of the accident. ( marty ) three people are in jail for selling drugs in novato. police received reports earlier this month about drug activity at a house on kenwood court. police got a search warrant...and stopped a man leaving the house. authorities say he was in possession of meth. they also found others in and around the house including a 10-year-old child. police

( marty ) a u-c berkeley student is out of jail ... after he was detained by ice for nearly three weeks. an online campaign helped raise money for his bail. luis mora used additonal funds from that campaign to bail out others in the same jail. kron 4's ella sogomonian met with his immigration attorney and has more. undocumented cal student luis mora was arrested at a border patrol checkpoint in san diego county back in december.he was

( marty ) in the east bay... the coast guard rescued dozens of people after a water taxi ran aground.. it happened near the berkeley marina. the coast guard tells us the boat got stuck on a reef. they rescued all 43 people on board. this happened yesterday afternoon. crews used two small rescue boats... dropping the passengers back on land at the berkeley marina. no injuries were reported.

park in santa rosa are concerned by reports that the owner intends to sell the property. much of it was destroyed during the north bay firestorm. residents have had to find temporary housing while they search for permanent solutions. we reached out to co-owner of the property -- ramsey shuayto -- who said they're not neccessarily looking to sell the property. he told us they're partnering with burbank housing to replace 160 units that are in poor shape with affordable housing, and that the family hopes to keep a stake in the property. it's unclear how this will affect former residents. about to get back to work. the giants and the a's are both about to kick off the 2018 season in arizona. catching a spring training match-up is an easy getaway that comes with some unexpected desert perks. travel enthusiast dana rebmann joins us now..(ááá2 shot on camááá)(ááádanaááá) with spring homes in scottsdale and mesa, their stadiums are only about 15 minutes apart, so catching both teams in action is easy.but with so much to see in the desert.. squeezing in those baseball games can get tough. it almost seems unfair when the competition

was anxious for days... after their engagment ring was accidentally flushed down the toilet. the couple called a plumber to find the 10- thousand dollar ring.but after a couple of hours of searching ... no luck ... and the plumber gave up. thankfully, neighbors came together to help them . and after 30 hours of digging and sifting... they were able to recover the ring. ( marty ) the happy couple will be getting married in may. until then, they say the ring will be only be worn on special occasions, and otherwise will be kept in a safe place. adlib seven day.
