especially difficult for the homeless community. the city of san francisco wants people to know there is a place to enjoy some indoor

heat. the city is making an effort to help keep the homeless warm. the outreach team transported people in wheelchairs to shelters monday evening. san francisco shelters will also accommodate anyone overnight at all locations... reservation or not. < "if you see anybody on the street who needs assistance due to the cold you can call 311 for them or you can send them to the gene friend rec center.">( robin ) the cold weather courtesy will continue through wednesday morning. ( robin ) happening now... federal investigators from the a-t-f are now looking into an explosion outside of a house on blue jay drive in suisun city. the explosion happened early saturday morning. police say the person who lived in the home told officers that he saw a device explode in front of the home. police shared this picture of the home. there

were several people inside the home at the time of the explosion. nobody was injured. ( robin ) police in suisun city are also looking for three people who tried to break into a smoke shop over the weekend. these are new surveillance images of the people police are looking for. police say the group tried to break into the mega smoke shop on sunset avenue. they were last seen driving a silver cadillac which was registered out of modesto. ( robin ) in concord... police are investigating a crash that killed a 16- year-old on a bicycle. it happened sunday on willow pass road at fry way. police say the teen was in the crosswalk when he collided with a pickup truck. the teen died at the scene. the driver of the truck called 9-1-1 and cooperated with officers when they arrived. alcohol and drugs are not believed to be involved. the teen's identity has not been released. ( robin ) a santa cruz family is now safely back in the united states .... after being carjacked at gunpoint during a trip to mexico. left with nothing... they had

to go through exteme measures to get home. kron four's spencer blake spoke with the couple. it's a story you'll see only on four. chug and lalita kirkman are glad to be safe in their own santa cruz living room, with their three-year-old son ron. earlier this month, they didn't know how they would ever get back to the states. they had been visiting lalita's parents, who live in mexico, and were traveling with them from the kirkman's property in the state of guerrero....her parent's house in michoacan."suddenly....the cartel - or whoever the four men were - demanded everything. they took phones, wallets, their bags, and then drove off in their truck, which was towing their parents jeep, too. they even had to say goodbye to lalita's mom's dog.the family was stranded.some of them hadn't even been wearing shoes."nobody was stopping."a stranger gave them a ride back to the toll plaza they had passed earlier, but the kirkmans say they got no help from the people working there - almost as if they were working with the criminals.

finally lalita's uncle came to the rescue so they could go back to lalita's parents.but they had a four-hour bus ride ahead of them in the middle of the night to get to the nearest u-s embassy in guadalajara."we arrived there..."even at the embassy, they felt hopeless...until someone finally agreed to see them.it took hours that day to get them emergency passports...which cost four hundred u-s dollars.they couldn't use their dad's credit card, since he wasn't there with them.luckily, they knew the phone number to their hare krishna temple back home in california.the temple sent money through someone at a temple in mexico.but even after all was said and done, the kirkmans feel like their own government let them down....and they don't expect anything to happen with the crime ...which they've tried unsuccessfully to report in áboth countries."at this point..."in santa cruz, spencer blake, kron four news. feed is now at the center of controversy after an a-r-15 rifle was one of the items up for auction. that kind of firearm has of course been used by many mass shooters... including the most recent school shooting in florida. some people who were excited to attend the event in el dorado county.... left after seeing it was being auctioned off as a prize. they say the timing of the event and the prize just seemed to be in poor taste. allison merrill, left crab feed "i mean the kids in florida are outraged and they're angry and they're talking, and the whole country is talking about this. and it just felt so tone deaf that here we are in our community just giving this gun out as a prize."(grant) a cal fire spokesman says

the crab feed has been held every year since 2002... and often guns are raffled as fundraising prizes. another big story we are following today.a man died yesterday while trying to rescue his dog... he had fallen down a cliff side along the coast in daly city. (robin)this happened at thornton state beach, a popular dog walking area and scenic lookout in daly city. kron 4's gabe slate shows us where this happened and how people who frequent the park are reacting to this tragic accident. thornton state beach is a popular dog walking park in daly city that over looks the ocean.there are miles of trails run along the cliff side.at times these trails are close the edge.just before 12pm monday afternoon, north county fire requested the assistance of the chp air patrol unit for a cliff rescue. this is video from the california highway patrol helicopter as they approached

the cliffs of thornton beach. chp says a 67 year old man was walking his dog when that dog fell over part of the cliff near the top.the unidentified man began to climb down to retrieve his dog when he slipped and fell 500 feet. he died.chp was able to rescue to the dog. the dog was unharmed and is now with other family members.we are waiting for more details to emerge like if the weather here played a role it was extremely windy at this cliff side park today. nats - windat times gusts of 40-50 miles an hour would blow through these trailssound from dog walker thornton state beach - michelle -that is so sad, i heard the dog survived but no the owner, very sad michelle says she will be more careful now when walking her dog kush here.sound from dog walker thornton state beach - michelle -i never let this guy out of my hands, i have never heard of someone dieing like this.. i have heard about dogs falling over cliff. the national park service told me they encourage people not to rescue dogs by themselves. they said usually the dog survives and human does not. in daly city gabe slate kroon

"assassin". it is being played by seniors at livermore and granada high schools. the game is organized by students in teams...and those participating must pay to play. the goal is to take out other teams with toys guns to win a cash prize. police have received reports of armed and suspicious people in connection with the game... and respond anticipating a real emergency. now they are urging parents to talk to their teens about the potential dangers of the game. an effort to register black voters. the "electoral justice project," part of the "movement for black lives" group, is registering voters at select screenings of the movie, which broke records this weekend with a 200-million-dollar-plus debut. the effort's slogan and hashtag? hold an emergency response drill at the pittsburg transfer platform. the drill will include the fire department, police, and bart officials. it is expected to last around 2 hours and may impact traffic in the area. ( robin ) a 19-year-old man from mountain view and a 16-year-old boy from san francisco are arrested for a string of car burglaries. police say lamar nicholson and the 16-year-old are respsonisble for nearly 20 car burglaries in several bay area cities. the two are accused of stealing cellphones... laptops and tablets from cars. nicholson is charged with 19 counts of auto burglary. the 16-year-old was cited and released to his parents. ( robin ) it has been a little more than four months since a firestorm ripped through the north bay. while there is still a lot of work to be done, kron4's maureen kelly caught up with a napa homeowner who believes.. he was issued the first permit

to rebuild in that county. a cement mixer backs into the driveway off westgate drive near the silverado resort in napa.from the top of the property, joe betz watches the construction crew get to work on pouring his new foundation. joe is the owner of san francisco's house of prime rib restaurant. he says he was here at his weekend home with family members when they were forced to evacutate the because of the flames.all of a sudden the flames came up. we ran to the car made a right turn over here there was already a firestorm were in the firestorm. we are in the firestorm within five minutes we would've been burning too the home was completely wiped out. now today joe believes he is the first property owner in napa county to get his permit to rebuild and start over. i feel good i really feel good it shows you don't just stand around. that's not my style

anyway i don't like to stand around when it burn down immediately i thought i thought a cleanup and we were the first ones to clean up to what are the reasons joe and his contractor credit been able to start rebuilding so quickly is the cooperation they are getting from the county of napa's building departmentwithin two weeks we had a permit in hand which is very unusual is usually several months but they have a team specific for the fire and they get right on it it's a priority for them so it's been a great experience and usually greatas to when joe and his family will be able to move back in? we're talking about thanksgiving that's what he told me i'm gonna hold onto it but do you know what he didn't say what year hahahabut not everyone is ready to rebuild now, or ever. there were several for sale signs posted nearby. the contractor says he's now being approached by other property owners who are just starting to wrap their heads around the idea of rebuilding. it's work that he expects to keep him and other contractors busy for several years to come. maureen kelly kron4 news coming upa lot of them don't

[bong!] ( robin ) there are a lot of abandoned boats off the coast of marin county and tax payers are the ones paying to remove them. kron 4's stanley roberts explains in this edition of people behaving badly. sheriff's department, if you're on here lets us know this is an abandoned tug boat anchored in richardson bay just of the coast of sausalito in marin county,the boat has been stripped of anything of

value so it's basically a giant floating pile of junk that as you can see with the water inside the engine room it's slowly taking on water so why are marin county residents not crying foul it's a situation of out of sight out of mind shoreline or the homes in belvedere where the docks get crashed into you see a green tug you can't see what's on the back deck you can't see the loose debris and when you work out here we see these vessels sink on a frequent basis this is deputy kate dahlberg and this is her partner deputy white ...they are assigned to the marin county sheriff's office marine patrol..they patrol richardson bay looking for unsafe and abandoned boats, a boat gets tagged by the sheriffs office and after 10 day if no one claims the boats it's removed at taxpayers expensethe cost to remove the tugboat will be at a minimum of 20 thousand dollars and guess what we were advised that of at least two tugs that are actually bigger than the one we are standing are incoming from outside counties since there are absolutely no regulations in richardson bay it's basically the wild wild west on the water ...and all the sheriff can do is take a boat out of play if it's deemed

unsafe but the problem is deeper than just a bunch of abandoned boats, listen to jimi mcintosh one of the anchor-out boat owners who is playing by the rules a lot of them don't have power a lot of them don't have sewage a lot of them don't have your necessary utilities to survive on the water so they are throwing stuff overboard so there are approximately, 200 boats in richardson bay, the sheriff's office estimate more than half of the boats are not seaworthy for reasons such as holes in the boat .. some are slowly taking on water or have loose debris littering the deck this is the love shack and kim lives aboard... listen to our conversation (so this doesn't actually work) it does work it has a minor problem right now but i'm working on it getting it going (what's the minor problem) right now the fuel pump) fuel pump ( how long as the fuel pump been out) three years to get back and forth they use dinghies how long you been out here (10 years) and you don't have a paddle no and i don't want one either there is more to this, a whole lot

( robin ) the bay area has long been a center for activism ... whether on local matters or social justice issues around the nation.. the historic five- month long student strike at s-f state for ethnic studies .. the black panther party's birth in oakland .. and now, our pam moore introduces us to another movement leader .. in this morning's hidden history. "i'm teaching women race and

class and race resistance studies. it is angela davis' old class. what is that like? it's intimidating." alicia garza teaches resistance at s- f state .. where she received her masters degree... it is probably fitting, since she, opal tometi and patrisse cullors are the three women who co-founded 'black lives matter' .. a social justice movement that has spread across the nation.they say they wanted to do something constructive, after the 2013 acquittal of neighborhood watchman george zimmerman.. in the killing of young trayvon martin .. upset by the acquittal.. alicia wrote a letter about her love for her people.. posted it on social media .. they added the three word hashtag - black lives matter..the phrase captured the moment and took off "i did not think that for one second george zimmerman would walk free""the next day when i saw that post had gone viral and patrisse putting a hashtag in front of it, had allowed people to be able to follow a conversation .. she and i realized there was a lot of need and energy that we weren't the only people

feeling like what was happening not only shouldn't be happening, but we also wanted to make sure people were doing something about it" "in this new political age, what i'm really heartened by, is that is not just black lives matter in the street. that it's alot of other people who realize how intertwined our futures are. when this current administration tries to ban muslims." "when we see that this current administration is really condoning violence against women we saw a million women take to the streets of washington d.c. and millions more all around the world to say, we're not taking that anymore.. and so i love seeing all these tthings converge because that is really how change happens."and she answers critics of the 'black lives matter' movement this way:"its not to say black lives are more important. it's to say we want to get to a
