storm heading to the bay area. taking a look at stormtracker four radar you can see where the rain is falling right now... (grant) the rain is just getting underway... and it's expected to last for a few days! lets check in with chief meteorologist lawrence karnow... lawrence,

how much of a disruption will this storm be for people? a powerful storm is now on final approach and headed toward the bay area. a few showers have already started showing up on doppler radar, but much heavier rain is on the way. it will be loud tonight as the winds begin to howl especially toward dawn tomorrow morning. a wind advisory has been posted for most of the bay area. wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour are possible. on the satellite you see a well formed storm with plenty of cold air behind it to keep the showers coming after the main front passes tomorrow morning. rain will be heavy for the commute tomorrow morning. it will also be the period of strongest gusty winds. morning rain will turn to showers by the afternoon with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms. localized flooding is possible as the storm passes. snow levels will also be running low down to 2,500 feet. showers and isolated thunderstorms with hail are possible on friday. showers will continue on saturday before dry weather returns on sunday. monday

anselmo creek that runs by downtown, has a long history of flooding.a few businesses here put sandbags out as a precaution.but some planned on waiting until they closed up for the night, and would use the bags to block their doors. last winter people who live near here had to evacuate because the creek went over its banks and flooded the area. so this is a place people are watching closely with this incoming storm. people in san anselmo who need sandbags can do get them near the red hills shopping center right by the tennis courts.bags and sand are there for people who need it to protect their property from flooding.justine liveback out here live, right now the rain is still coming down slowly.live in san anselmo justine waldman kron 4 news. is now looking into whether or not oakland's mayor obstructed justice when she gave a very public head's up about immigration raids here in northern california. oakland mayor libby schaaf defended her actions this afternoon at city hall.(grant) and as kron4's maureen kelly reports... the mayor not only stands by her decision, she says she would do it again. (pkg)on hindsight would you do it again? absolutelyoakland's mayor goes on the defensive as the fallout from her weekend warning about ice raids continues. .today us immigration and customs enforcement tom homan appeared on fox and friends saying schaaf's warning put his agents at risk he claims roughly 800 people living illegally in northern california avoided their sweep because of schaaf's head's up. saying quote: what she did is no better than a gang lookout yelling 'police' when a police cruiser comes in the neighborhood except she did it to the entire community. i've been doing this for 34 years and this is a whole new low. to intentionally warn criminals that law enforcement's' coming. i just can't believe it happened." at a press briefing today schaaf reacted to those

(vicki) happening now.. a 10-thousand dollar reward is being offered for information about the recent charter bus vandalism on bay area highways. the vandals shot at the buses with b-b guns traveling on highways in the south bay and the peninsula in the last two months. the charter buses are being used to shuttle tech workers to companies like apple and google. the highway patrol is currently investigating seven cases of buses being targeted. rages following the parkland school shooting, some companies are changing the way they do business. dick's sporting goods, the nation's largest sporting goods retailer, will no longer sell assault-style rifles like the one used in parkland. the weapons will now be pulled from all store shelves. dick's c-e-o edward stack spoke about the decision today. edward w. stack / chairman and ceo, dick's sporting goods, inc.: "we were so disturbed and saddened by what happened in parkland that we said we need to do something, and we talked about what we needed to do and we felt that we needed to make a statement that we will no longer sell assault type rifles, high capacity magazines and a few other things, and what - our hearts went out to those kids into their parents. and you know everybody talks about thoughts and prayers going out to them. and that's that's great, but that doesn't really do anything. and we felt that we needed to take a stand and do this."(vicki) dicks will also raise the minimum purchase age for all firearms to 21. and today-- walmart also announced that they will also raise the

(vicki) students in parkland, florida went back to school today....where 17 peoplewere killed in a shooting two weeks ago..(grant) they say it was a deeply emotional day.....but also the beginning of healing. catherine heenan is here with the story.. (catherine) the students were surrounded by a huge police presence as they returned.. they'd missed two weeks of class since the valentine's day mass shooting.. this was intended to be a gentle easing back into their routine.. police officers handed out flowers....and it was a shortened day. no one tried to actually deal with classwork -- this was mostly a chance to be with each other and talk. . students honored those who had been

killed... with flowers and candles on empty desks... the hallways were filled with therapy dogs and grief counselors. the school superintendent says attendance was about 95 percent... he also says that only a handful of teachers and staff members have suggested theymight transfer to another school. vicki and grant? (grant) today president trump sat down with both democrats and republicans to explore what congress could do to prevent future school shootings.(vicki)it was the president's fourth meeting on school safety since the deadly massacre in parkland, florida.

women who hop into what they think are ride sharing cars without checking to make sure. at least seven women in southern california say they were sexually assaulted by a man posing as a ride=sharing driver.now a suspect is in custody.(vicki) police say he preyed on women for more than a year.catherine heenan is here with the story.catherine? (catherine) investigators say 44 year old nicholas morales cruised the streets, luring women into his car by saying he was their uber or lyft driver. then he would attack them, sometimes using a knife. "in 2018, if you're willing to jump into any car that a person walks up to you and say 'hi, i'm a driver from this company,' you're making a big mistake and eventually you're going to become a victim." prosecutors say that's what happened to at least seven different los angeles women, starting in october of 2016.

tracking in your neighborhood tonight... (vicki) a shooting threat on the campus of san jose state university. the threat was found in the women's bathroom at dudley hall. it said there would be a shooting at 5:00 today. police say the threat was not credible... and they stepped up patrols. still... some teachers canceled class out of precaution. ... (vicki) the santa clara county board of supervisors has announced plans to address gun violence. the board approved plans for a summit on gun violence and its relation to mental health. this is in response to the recent shooting in parkland, florida.

the summit will take place sometime in the next two months. the board also approved a plan to endorse the march for our lives event. that event is being organized by high school students in cities all across the country including san jose. it is set for march 24th. (grant) in the east bay.... a fire...at a library on appian way in el sobrante. firefighters received the call around eight-30 last night and were able to quickly put out the fire. the roof, and some books inside were damaged. no injuries reported. the fire started outside and then spread to the library's roof. it's being investigated as possible arson. (grant) two men are now behind bars in connection to a string of robberies in san leandro. officials say jamont baldwin of hayward and a juvenile suspect are responsible for at least four robberies, two in a costco parking lot. police found evidence that suggests the pair may be responsible for other robberies in the area. the juvenile has been released pending the investigation. baldwin faces one count of robbery and remains in custody. finnstrom talked to many who are nervous about the possibility of more rain. victor cervantes/homeowner: "i'm getting ready for the storm, packing one side of the creek so it doesn't get rid of any more of my property."a surreal morning for victor cervantes.he filled sandbags to shore up his montecito home against the possibility of another devastating mudslide. cervantes was in his home january 9th when a roaring rush of mud and debris killed 21 people and destroyed more than 100 homes.victor cervantes/homeowner: "there was this white suv going down the creek, looked like somebody was driving it."the winter storm forecast to move in thursday night is now tracking to drop up to two- thirds of an inch of rain within an hour, so this morning emergency operations staff in santa barbara elevated what had been an evacuation advisory to a warning.commander kelly moore/santa barbara county sheriff's dept.: "they need to prepare."the county's recommendation states there is a high risk for loss of life and property and includes the recent burn areas in parts of goleta, santa barbara, summerland, carpinteria and montectio. about 20-to-25 thousand people are covered. commander kelly moore says the area is so large because a mudflow catastrophe wipes out

case....but people are watching since the outcome couldhave major ripple effects... the minnesota law being challenged prohibits wearing political apparel at polling places.. the voter who filed the lawsuit said he was initially turned away by election workers because he had a shirt with the tea party logo -- and the words "don't tread on me"........ he argues the law goes way too far - and violates the first amendment. state officials insist it helps to prevent voter confusion and intimidation... the supreme court heard the case today....and had tough questions for both sides. the justices had concerns about a solution that would still protect free speech. justice neil gorsuch seemed to sum it up when he asked "how are we supposed to police the line.?" a decision isn't expected until spring. vicki and grant? for your health tonight... this might not come as a surprise... most of us are sleep deprived. but-- we are now learning just how much sleep we are losing every month. (vicki) according to a new study... california residents lose out on an average of 32-point-2 hours of sleep-- per month.

that's compared to the nationwide average of 30- point-six hours per month. (grant) it's not clear why people who live in california get less sleep. but the study also found that people try to make up the sleep they lost during the week... by sleeping in on the weekend. but doctors say they don't recommend doing that. (vicki) they say try to stick to a regular sleep schedule. avoid caffeine and alcohol, exercise daily, and turn off your screens at least an hour before you go to sleep.
