( marty ) friday was tension filled for people with friends and loved ones who were on lockdown inside the veterans home. kron-4's spencer blake talked to some who were watching and waiting. you could see nervous pacing outside yountville's veterans home of california.people waited to hear from family members - either those who live here, or those who work here."it's crazy because you witness these kinds of things nationwide, right? different cities, different veterans homes and schools, but this thing actually hit home. it hit my mom's work."kevin bardales was communicating with his mom, who had her cell phone on her.she wasn't in the

same part of campus as the gunmen, but she and her colleagues did have to barricade the doors, which have no locks."knowing my mom's in danger i had to call in sick and everything because i can't go to work knowing she's in danger."meanwhile the transportation director at napa's justin-siena high school brought a school bus up to get 50 or so theater students who had been rehearsing a play at lincoln theater at the veterans home. "i actually was here on campus about 10:30 and heard all the sirens and cop cars going up." "well, i say, 'what's going on? it's gotta be something serious after three hours almost and a lot of policemen." police escorted the bus up to the campus to make the pick-up. "they were fine, the kids were fine. they weren't in any danger, so there was nothing for them to worry about. they were just getting tired of sitting around, not being able to leave."the bus took those kids back to the high school, and none of them were injured. other people waited to hear about their loved ones who live at the veterans home.some of them were elderly, and unable to make phone contact on their own. ( marty )president trump tweeted his reponse to the

shooting. the president said" 'he' is deeply saddened by the tragic situation in yountville... and he mourns the loss of three incredible women who cared for our veterans." ( marty )governor brown had this response saying... "anne and i are deeply saddened by the horrible violence at the yountville veterans home, which tragically took the lives of three people dedicated to serving our veterans. our hearts go out to their families and loved ones and the entire community of yountville." the governor also said flags at the capitol will fly at half staff. ( marty ) police in oakland are searching for the driver in a deadly hit and run. it happened just before 2 friday morning on san pablo avenue... police say a dark colored car hit a woman... and took off. this is video from the scene.

the name of the victim has not been released. she is identified as an african- american woman in her 40's. she was pronounced dead at the scene. police are now looking at surveillance video in the area to try to get a description of the hit and run car... ( marty ) also in the east bay... brentwood police arrested three teenagers accused of making threats against their middle school and a fellow classmate. two of the teens are 13 and one is 14. this happened at edna hill middle school in brentwood. police investigated after learning the students had talked about doing an act of violence. the three teenagers were booked into contra costa juvenile hall on suspicion of conspiracy and making criminal threats. it's time to spring forward ...and turn our clocks ahead one hour.... it happens sunday at 2 am. and as always - experts say it will take longer for our body clocks to adjust. a stanford study shows that the monday after the time shift is linked to an increase in car accidents... adults who miss out on even one hour of sleep a day are more likely to report health problems like diabetes, depression and heart disease. experts suggest you use the time change to reset your sleep habits to make sure you get enough rest. ( marty ) the c-d-c reports the number of people sick with flu continued to decrease. but they warn that the season is not over yet. the c-d-c says there

were more than 68-hundred new infections last week. that brings the season total, beginning in october, to more than 230-thousand. the c-d-c also reports five more children died from the flu. ( marty ) and remember this as you start your saturday chores. the chemicals found in most cleaning products ... may be just as harmful as the ones in cigarettes. researchers tracked more than 6-thousand men and women around the world for 20 years. the women who used cleaning supplies everyday -- either at home or at work -- saw a sharp decline in lung capacity. they also had a higher risk of asthma. this trend was ánot seen in men. scientists suggest you ditch the sprays... and clean with a cloth and water instead. ( marty ) we're following breaking news out of southern california. one police officer is dead and one is in the hospital after being shot during a standoff with a barricaded suspect in pomona. it happened around 10- o'clock last night. they were transported to a local hospital, where one of them died. the surviving officer is in stable condition. no word on the gunman. ( marty ) situations like the one in yountville highlight the need for mental health services for veterans. according to the rand institute, nearly twenty per cent of u-s- service members who served in iraq or afghanistan currently suffer from p-t-s-d or depression. reporter mark meredith has more from washington. nat: "suicide prevention is our top clinical priority" v-a secretary dr. david shulkin says every day, 20 veterans commit suicide.shulkin says that must change."we've expanded our veterans crisis line , we are expanding the

number of mental health professionals" but the v-a says it can't fight the suicide crisis alone.and that's why its teaming up with the non-profit "am-vets" to send trained nurses to veterans nationwide."there exists a need, now more than ever, for trained advocates, to confront rising suicide rates, particularly among veterans who face transition stress from leaving the service"am-vets says it'll spend 700-thousand dollars, of its own money, on the "heal" program.its nurses will visit rural areas where v-a care can be harder to find.once on the ground, nurses will help veterans one on one navigate the v-a health care system. the v-a says the "heal" program comes at an important time for the department. last year, the v-a expanded the number of people eligible for mental health services.lana mckenzie says her team plans to start holding town halls to let veterans know about their new options."we intend to heal american veterans, no matter how tough or challenging" amvets says it also plans to launch a phone hotline for veterans to call.so veterans

( marty ) fremont police are hot on the heels of a crew that has been "skimming" credit card numbers across the bay area. kron four's rob fladeboe reports that police believe this crew has ties to organized crime. arrested so far in connection with the credit card skimming ring are brothers denis and iurii osetskyi, vasiliy polyak and artak harutyunyan, all from southern california. police say iurii osetskii, was the first arrest. he had $38 hundred dollars on him after making multiple transactions at several atm machines. later that same night denis osetski reported his brother missing and when police went to the motel where they were staying they arrested him too and confiscated multiple cloned gift and debit cards made with the stolen pin numbers. that led police to alleged co conspirators

robotics team is celebrating after their stolen robot was returned. kron 4's dan kerman shows us the work to get it ready for the next --nats-these are the cheers of the monta vista high school robotics team as they are reunited with their stolen robot .sot ishan mitra / president, monta vista high robotics team 09-14we're really glad that whoever had the robot decided to leave it somewhere so someone would find it , we're glad that it's backas you may have heard following this competition last saturday in utah, in which the robot, known as el toro 21 took 7th place out of 52 teams, the u-haul trailer carrying the robot, spare parts and all the teams tools was stolen dashing hopes of competing in the next competition in idaho. but days later the robot was found on someone's front lawn and friday afternoon it arrived back in cupertino for rigorous round of testingsot ninaad sridharan / monta vista high robotics team 45-52i think it's in pretty good shape, it's a little rusted, i assume

news out of southern california. one police officer is dead and one is hospitalized after being shot during a barricade standoff in pomona. it happened about 10-o'clock last night. an hour later ... shots were fired and both officers were shot. they were transported to a local hospital, where one of them died. the surviving officer is in stable condition. police arent saying whether the gunman has been arrested. believe this crew has ties to organized crime. arrested so far in connection with the credit card skimming ring are brothers denis and iurii osetskyi, vasiliy polyak and artak harutyunyan, all from southern california. police say iurii osetskii, was the first arrest. he had $38 hundred dollars on him after making multiple transactions at several atm machines. later that same night denis osetski reported his brother missing and when police went to the motel where they were staying they arrested him too and confiscated multiple cloned gift and debit cards made with the stolen pin numbers. that led police to alleged co conspirators vasiliy polyak and artak harutyunyan who both were in possession of bluetooth- enabled gas pump skimming devices and more than 100 cloned debit and gift cards as well as components to build more skimming tools. most of the cards were traced to pin number stolen from the crocket area in contra costa county, likely obtained by devices attached to gas station pumps. sgt. ricardo cortes/fremont police "....crews will come to a gas station and will literally open up the pump and the pump sealed up with the device left behind inside the pump and it is bluetooth

52 teams, the u-haul trailer carrying the robot, spare parts and all the teams tools was stolen dashing hopes of competing in the next competition in idaho. but days later the robot was found on someone's front lawn and friday afternoon it arrived back in cupertino for rigorous round of testingsot ninaad sridharan / monta vista high robotics team 45-52i think it's in pretty good shape, it's a little rusted, i assume it was left out in the rain a little bit, so we're going to have to replace the screws and the bearingsyet despite the rain and the rust, once connected to a battery, the electronics were still humming and it was elevator component was still able to work more testing needs to be done.. and a stolen parts need to be but this group is ready to work around the clocksotnow that it's back i think we have this fire back in us and we're totally ready to win in idaho standup dan kerman/cupertino 116-126the community has also come through raising 7 thousand dollars in less than a week.. that money will go to replacing stolen tools and parts, next getting this robot up to speed to compete in the next competition august 28th in idaho. in cupertino, dan
