monday ahead of our next storm system. this system will bring widespread rainfall to our region from tuesday through thursday, along with the potential for periods of heavy rain and locally strong southerly winds. ( marty ) firefighters and arson investigators are still at the scene of a huge four alarm fire in the north beach neighborhood of san francisco. the four alarm fire displaced 15 people. no one was hurt and the fire is out, but

firefighters will continue to watch for hotspots today. the fire broke inside a two-story building on saturday night. the flames and smoke could be seen for miles. it took about 140 firefighters to put out the fire. no-one was in the building at the time of the fire. there are businesses on the ground floor and vacant apartments on the top floor. firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. ( marty ) in the east bay, officers surprised drivers with a dui checkpoint. they held it on st. patricks night, usually a popular day for drinking. the checkpoint was held in memory of a chp officer that was killed by a suspected drunk driver. officer andrew camilleri was killed nearly three months ago while on duty on interstate 880. kron 4's hermela aregawi has the story. ( marty ) to the south bay-- police arrested the man accused of stealing a 16-thousand dollar portrait. francisco romero was booked into the santa clara county jail yesterday afternoon. police say romero stole the nick gentry piece from valley medical center. officers are still looking for the missing artwork the case is under investigation. ( marty ) months ago kron four showed you the first rebuilt home to rise from the ashes of coffey park in santa rosa. now...you can get a glimpse of what the neighborhood will look like in the future. kron four's spencer blake reports that several other homes being

on himself.sheriff's deputies found one body and one person wounded at the oaks mall in thousand oaks saturday afternoon.the wounded person was taken to an area hospital in unknown condition. police say , the initial investigation shows that the shooting was a murder and attempted suicide. ( marty ) a sinkhole in oakland caused major delays for drivers heading out of alameda just outside the posey tube. kron 4's ella sogomonian was there and shows us the traffic nighmare. oakland public works is fixing a sinkhole caused by the failure of an underground storm drain at the tube's exit. saturday anxious drivers lined up at the tunnel's entrance inching slowly in heavy traffic.sot: driver, "yeah that's disastrous." ella: is it cutting into your plans tonight?"driver: "it will, it won't kill me but it's really unpleasant for sure."depending on the day it could take as little as three minutes to get across, but the repair has reduced traffic to one lane and is extending the commute to at a half hour.sot: driver, "i didn't know it was going to be this much traffic so i had to get extra time. but i think

i'll still be late."alameda islander brenda curtis says she's not shocked by news of the sinkhole.sot: brenda marie curtis, alameda resident// "maintenance and infrastructure on our island as well as oakland is not a priority of our city officials from what i have observed in the last 10 years." alameda public works reports the lane will be closed into next week and suggests drivers find alternate routes. ( marty ) a man is recovering in the hospital after being swept into the ocean. it happened off the sonoma county coast at salt point state park yesterday. police say the victim was on the rocks near the water when a wave swept him out about 300 feet. a lifeguard swam out to help the victim. then a helicopter rescue team flew the man to santa rosa memorial hospital. he's now in stable condition. ( marty ) police are investigating a double shooting in santa rosa. it

have been working around the clock at the scene of the bridge collapse. police say at least six people were killed at florida international university. three bodies were pulled from the rubble saturday morning. authorities say all the bodies of the victims have been recovered. kim hutcherson has details on the investigation.

juan perez / miami-dade police department director: "finally our crews that were assisting us in this process were successful after hours and hours of incredible work that they've been doing, were successful in moving two vehicles from under that rubbish."three victims were found in the two vehicles pulled from the rubble early saturday.multiple cars were crushed when the 950-ton pedestrian walkway crumbled onto the busy road below.crews hope to finish search and recovery efforts this weekend. deputy mayor maurice kemp / miami-dade county: "we anticipated we would have three with those two vehicles. but we're open minded to the fact that we may find more victims than we initially projected."the bridge was still under construction when it collapsed.an engineer with the construction company left a voicemail with the florida department of transportation warning of cracks -- but said there were no safety concerns. voice of: w. denney pate / figg bridge engineers: "...we've taken a look at it and, obviously, some repairs or whatever will have to be

done. but, from a safety perspective, we don't see that there's any issue there."that voicemail wasn't heard until áafterá the deadly collapse. now -- the ntsb is trying to figure out what went wrong. robert acetta / ntsb, investigator in charge: "i know the crews were out there inspecting it and they were applying tension to strengthen a member. i don't know if that is related to the cracks that they discovered. that's still too early in the investigation for i'm kim hutcherson reporting. ( marty ) the first victim was identified on friday by her father as 18-year-old alexa duran -- a student at florida international university. police have identifed five of the six victims. classes will be held at florida international university tomorrow. and a vigil will be held wednesday morning. this week. but we've had mostly warm and dry weather during the winter. and it led to a bit more water use. at least more than water managers would like to see. kron four's rob fladeboe reports now, there is a renewed call for water conservation. rob fladeboe/san jose "...water managers say there is no need to panic. percolation ponds like this one here along coyote creek are still putting water into the underground aquifer for future use but there are some early indications that we may be slipping back into some bad, pre drought habits..." richard santos/chairman-santa clara valley water district "....it's a major wakeup call...."santa clara valley water district board chairman richard santos is talking about the statewide dip in water conservation in january of this year.richard santos ".....we need to conserve, we need to do better, these are some little yellow flags that say we need to do more

conservation..."the state water resources control board says that the amount of water saved by urban users, much of which goes for outdoor watering, has fallen in seven of the past eight months. statewide, urban residents cut consumption by just .08 percent in january, that's well below the 2o-percent reduction from january of 2017. if that is a trend, the gains from last winter's record rainfall will be gone before we know it.richard santos "...true but you can't keep going to the well, don't let that give you false hopes, we live in an arid climate,california is like a desert...."compared with the baseline numbers from january 0f 2013, when the last drought began, bay area residents still managed to cut water use by 6-point-9 percent in january of 2018.that's less than half of what it was a year ago but much better than southern california.,where consumption increased by 3- point-9 percent. regardless of how much rain and snoware still to come this year, water managers will continue to call for a minimum conservation goal of at least 20-percent. richard santos/santa clara valley water district "...keep that bucket in the shower, don't let it run all day, put nozzles on it, there are so many things you can do,

we need to stay proactive...." rob fladeboe "....meantime state and local reservoirs are still in fairly good shape. those here in santa clara county are roughly 28 percent full. in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news ( marty ) the oakland coliseum d-m-v office is set to reopen tomorrow. the office has been closed for more than a month... as crews were working to repair water damage. you may remember that the office was flooded after a break-in.... where thieves stole copper pipes. the d-m-v has been honoring all appointments at other locations during the closure.

( marty ) officials were shocked to discover nearly 300 rabbits in the backyard of a sacramento area home. even more shocking were the deplorable conditions the rabbits were living in. reporter doug johnson has more. the sacramento spca is in need of donations after receiving nearly 300 bunnies friday night.the 286 rabbits of various ages are part of an ongoing investigation and are not up for adoption.patrol officers with the folsom police department discovered the rabbits at a home on pine grove way while responding to a different call. after looking over a fence and noticing, what they thought were 100 rabbits, they radioed animal control."from there, the animal control officer went over and was able to see that there was much more than the 100 that she believed was there," said detective donald rowberry.the city of folsom only allows for two rabbits per household.authorities say their living conditions were not healthy."the main concern was the safety of the rabbits. they were in unsanitary conditions," said rowberry.the shelter received multiple breeds, including angoras, himalayans, lionheads and

st. patrick's day. as the wet weather held off long enough for the 167th annual saint patrick's day parade. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with some of the thousands who celebrated the holiday in the city. (philippe)nats- "happy st. patties day1" billed as the largest irsh event on the

( marty ) firefighters and arson investigators are still at the scene of a huge four alarm fire in the north beach neighborhood of san francisco. the four alarm fire displaced 15 people. no one was hurt and the fire is out, but firefighters will continue to watch for hotspots today. the fire broke inside a two-story building on saturday night. the flames and smoke could be seen for miles. it took about 140 firefighters to put out the fire. no-one was in the building at the time of the fire. there are businesses on the ground floor and vacant

apartments on the top floor. firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. ( marty ) to the south bay-- police arrested the man accused of stealing a 16-thousand dollar portrait. francisco romero was booked into the santa clara county jail yesterday afternoon. police say romero stole the nick gentry piece from valley medical center. officers are still looking for the missing artwork ( marty ) months ago kron four showed you the first rebuilt home to rise from the ashes of coffey park in santa rosa. now...you can get a glimpse of what the neighborhood will look like in the future. kron four's spencer blake reports that several other homes being built are now visible in the flattened neighborhood.

( marty ) a man is recovering in the hospital after being swept into the ocean. it happened off the sonoma county coast at salt point state park yesterday. police say the victim was on the rocks near the water when a wave swept him out about 300 feet. a lifeguard swam out to help the victim. then a helicopter rescue team flew the man to santa rosa memorial hospital. he's now in stable condition. ( marty ) officials were shocked to discover nearly 300 rabbits in the backyard of a sacramento area home. even more shocking were the deplorable conditions the rabbits were living in. reporter doug johnson has more. the sacramento spca is in need of donations after receiving nearly 300 bunnies friday night.the 286 rabbits of various ages are part of an ongoing investigation and are not up for adoption.patrol officers with the folsom police department discovered the rabbits at a home on pine grove way while responding to a different call. after looking over a fence and noticing, what they thought were 100 rabbits, they radioed animal control."from there, the animal control officer went over and was able to see that there was much more than the 100 that she believed was there," said detective donald rowberry.the city of folsom only allows for two rabbits per household.authorities say their living conditions were not healthy."the main concern was the safety of the rabbits. they were in unsanitary conditions," said rowberry.the shelter received multiple breeds, including angoras, himalayans, lionheads and lops, from folsom animal control.sspca is in need of small litter boxes, small ceramic bowls, timothy grass/hay, rabbit water bottles, rabbit toys and

( marty ) firefighters and arson investigators are still at the scene of a huge four alarm fire in the north beach neighborhood of san francisco. the four alarm fire displaced 15 people. no one was hurt and the fire is out, but firefighters will continue to watch for hotspots today. the fire broke inside a two-story building on saturday night. the flames and smoke could be seen for miles. it took about 140 firefighters to put out the fire. no-one was in the building at the time of the fire. there are businesses on the ground floor and vacant apartments on the top floor. firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. ( marty ) in the east bay, officers surprised drivers with a dui checkpoint. they held it on st. patricks night, usually a popular day for

( marty ) one person is dead and another injured after a shooting at a ventura county mall. authorities say a man shot and killed his former wife and then turned the gun on himself.sheriff's deputies found one body and one person wounded at the oaks mall in thousand oaks saturday afternoon.the wounded person was taken to an area hospital in unknown condition. police say , the initial investigation shows that the shooting was a murder and attempted suicide. ( marty ) a sinkhole in oakland caused major delays for drivers heading out of alameda just outside the posey tube. kron 4's ella sogomonian was there and shows us the traffic nighmare. oakland public works is fixing a sinkhole caused by the failure of an underground storm drain at the tube's exit. saturday anxious drivers lined up at the tunnel's entrance inching slowly in heavy traffic.sot: driver, "yeah that's disastrous." ella: is it cutting into your plans tonight?"driver: "it will, it won't kill me but it's really unpleasant for sure."depending on the day it could take as little as three minutes to get across, but the repair has

recovery crews in miami have been working around the clock at the scene of the bridge collapse. police say at least six people were killed at florida international university. three bodies were pulled from the rubble saturday morning. authorities say all the bodies of the victims have been recovered. kim hutcherson has details on the investigation. juan perez / miami-dade police department director: "finally our crews that were assisting us in this process were successful after hours and hours of incredible work that they've been doing, were

was allegedly found in possession of child pornography. police say anthony smith of suisun city was arrested on thursday after a six week investigation. detectives learned of the illegal downloads at a home in the fairfield area. police searched smith's electronics and found that he was in possesion of numerous files of child porn. smith was arrested and booked into solano county jail. ( marty ) officials were shocked to discover nearly 300 rabbits in the backyard of a sacramento area home. even more shocking were the deplorable conditions the rabbits were living in. reporter doug johnson has more. the sacramento spca is in need of donations after receiving nearly 300 bunnies friday night.the 286 rabbits of various ages are part of an ongoing investigation and are not up for adoption.patrol officers with the folsom police department discovered the rabbits at a home on pine grove way while responding to a different call. after looking over a fence and noticing, what they thought were 100 rabbits, they radioed animal control."from there, the animal control officer went over and was able to see that there was much more than the 100 that she believed was there," said detective donald rowberry.the city of folsom only allows for two rabbits per household.authorities say their living conditions were not healthy."the main concern
