another highway shooting. a woman and a little girl are recovering after their car was shot at on the highway. the shooting happened on saturday night on eastbound interstate 80 near willow avenue in hercules. the shooter has not been caught. kron 4's hermela aregawi tells us more. a frightening case of what police say may be road rage. saturday night around 9 oclock.. a suspect shot into a car traveling on i80 eastbound near willow avenue.the bullets injured two of the four people in the victims car... one of them a little girl.anirban sen/concerned driveri am a little concerned because i have a little daughter. i drive up and down this freeway almost every day taking her to school. i wouldn't want that to happen to me. if it's a road rage incident i hope they catch the guys that perpetrated itkenny song/concerned driveroh that's pretty scary, dangerous, yeah. i see road rage all the time because i'm a part time lyft driver so i see it all the time, people especially on a rainy day they drive too fast. they drive really fast and

it's scary.all eastbound lanes on 80 were closed nearly five hours as police combed through the scene.investigators determined the incident was likely a case of road rage. anirban sen/concerned driveri try and stay out of it. i try and avoid. if i see something like that on the freeway ill back up off of it in my car. i try not to engage (robin) that was kron 4's hermela aregawi with the story. (robin)the fire in san francisco's north beach neighborhood may be out.... but the struggle has only started for the business owners below the apartment buildings that caught fire. fortunately the units above were vacant and no one was hurt. but those business owners now worry about getting back on their feet. kron4 's ella sogomonian has the story. union and columbus in north beach saturday night. it erupted just before 7:30 as revelers were celebrating st. patrick's day forcing evacuations. fortunately no one was hurt.north beach local florencia hasson has lived here all her life and worries for the business owners at tuk tuk thai and four others that have served the community for years... some like coit liquor even decades.sot: florencia hasson, north beach local// "the owner there has always been the sweetest guy. he knows my order by heart and recognizes my voice when i call. so i really hope this isn't the end for him and the other business owners here." ferry plaza seafood owner opened her doors nearly four years ago shortly after she says another fire burned the same apartment building that has since been vacant. she along with other businesses here are dealing with severe smoke and water damage.sot: ute bwes, ferry plaza seafood owner// "you know you can't even go downstairs i mean it's down to my knees it's so full of water. all the food down there is obviously just gone." as she tried to collect whatever was left police officers told her she could

only grab money by the fire department's orders.just beside coit liqour is michaelangelo cafe that has been an italian north beach staple for 16 years. impassioned owner salvitore cortale stood frustrated in the dining room where customers were evacuated within minutes the night before.although his restaurant is still standing, he believes that's a bigger challenge than had it burnt down.sot: salvitore cortale, michaelangelo cafe owner// "we've been struggling already because on this block most of the businesses are closed now the only thing we had was this half a block on union street that had like three or four restaurants and a couple of bars now it's going to be tough for us to stay in business." there were more problems there were there were more problems in the north beach neighborhood on sunday morning. fights broke out and shots were heard. just after two am on sunday morning... police closed off a large portion of broadway. patrol cars were seen from

columbus to montgomery street. surveillance video shows people fighting in the streets. this was recorded outside the hue nightclub. police say they did find shell casings at the scene. but there were no reports of anyone being hit. no arrests were made. (robin) happening today ... a memorial will be held to remember the three women killed at the yountville veterans home earlier this month. the three mental health workers were killed by albert wong ... a former member who then turned the gun on himself. (robin) the memorial service will take place at 6:00 pm today... we will carry parts of the service live here on kron4.... we'll also cover it on kron4 dot com, and on our mobile app.. the pathway home has set up a fund for the families of the victims. donations can be sent to the "3 brave women fund." the address is on your screen. (robin) in southern california... a man is in critical condition after shooting and killing his

ex-wife... then turning the gun on himself. authoritites says it happened at a mall in thousand oaks. police say they man was arguing with the woman before shooting her... then shooting himself. the man was transported to the hospital. authorities say the children of the estranged couple have been located and are safe. investigators say this was a murder and an attempted suicide. (robin) the alameda county sheriff's office continues to investigate a homicide that happened early sunday morning. the shooting happened in hayward ... outside a hookah lounge on mission boulevard. kron 4's ali reid has the latest on the investigation. investigators comb the murder scene for hours ... searching for every possible piece of evidence.we're not sure if this is some type of robbery attempt that happened and subsequently led to the shootinga glass pane from the hookah lounge on mission boulevard was shot out ... with a number of evidence markers nearby. neighbors tell me they heard 3 gunshots

early sunday morning.we know that this crime scene happened in and around the hookah lounge parking lot, then ended where you see the car there. the sheriff's office tells me the driver of the mercedes benz drove about a block before losing control of the vehicle. paramedics arrived on scene, but weren't able to save him. the victim was shot and tried to get away and ultimately he died in the middle of the road in his vehiclethe crime scene stretched at least a half mile. technicians from the crime lab worked diligently for more than 12 hours. a number of businesses closed their doors on sunday. with backed up and rerouted traffic in the surrounding area, those that decided to open barely saw any customers.they're making u-turns to get outta here but no one can stop, so ...tagpolice are working on leads and looking at surveillance footage from surrounding businesses. suspects are described as 2 young african american males reporting in hayward, ali reid, kron4 news. explosion in an austin suburb has sent two men to the hospital. this is the fourth explosion like this.. in the city this month. the explosion happened in southwest austin .. and injured two men in their 20's. austin police earlier connected a series of three package explosions that happened over a ten day span. those explosions killed two people and injured two others. authorities do not know if this most recent explosion is related to the previous ones. (robin) austin police say theyve had more than 700 calls of suspicious packages since the explosions. (robin) we are learning that some people wanted florida high school shooting suspect-- nikolas cruz-- to be committed. in september 20-16... school officials along with a sheriff's deputy recommended cruz be involuntarily committed for mental evaluation for at least three days. the officials cited concerns about cruz's mental stability... but the recommendation was never acted upon. a commitment under the law would have made it more difficult if not impossible for cruz to obtain a gun legally. (robin) a 9-11 emergency responder who saved hundreds of people has died of cancer at the age of 45. thomas phelan, a new york ferry

captain who later became a city firefighter, died on friday. the new york city fire department said when the twin towers were hit, phelan helped ferry people from lower manhattan. in 2003, phelan joined the f-d-n-y as a firefighter and was promoted to marine pilot. mayor of new york city sent a tweet sunday honoring his service and sacrifice. (robin) a longtime cirque du soleil performer ádied after a fall during a show in florida on saturday night. reporter amanda ciavarri spoke with one of the people in the audience, who witnessed the accident. julian martinez/witness:"i just can't get it out of my head."julian martinez was in the crowd saturday night for the performance of "volta"he noticed one performer during the rope swings, describing him as struggling.julian martinez/witness:"i saw the performer visibly straining to hold onto the rope. i saw the two acrobatics exchanging glances before hand and i don't know if one was trying to enjoy the other was okay. but at that point something

"first match" is a winner! the drama, about a brooklyn girl in foster care who competes in boys' high school wrestling, has won the audience award in the narrative feature competition at the south-by- southwest film festival in austin, texas. (robin) a concord man has been missing for almost a week, and his family and friends have been looking for him outside of the already rigorous police search. davd kempker was last seen near sherman island in sacramento county, and that's where police found his car...but there's still no sign of kempker. kron four's spencer blake brings us up to speed on the search. (reporter on cam)a family friend tells me david kempker loves the outdoors...but it sounds like he always tries to play it safe when he goes on adventures.(pkg)27-year-old david kempker has been living and working in truckee for the past few years.he's an electrician by trade.nobody has seen him since early morning on monday the 12th.his family reported him missing the next day when he didn't come home.family friend adrian morse says a álot of people come to visit kempker when he comes back to concord."nobody has a bad word to say about david. i've never seen david at odds with anyone. i've never really seen him mad."

concord police say kempker was last seen in sacramento county, near sherman island. they haven't found any trace of him there, except for his truck off of highway 160.he loves being out in nature - hiking, camping, dirt biking, and going to outdoor festivals. but even when he does any high- adventure activities, morse says kempker doesn't go at it alone."he's always in a large group of friends, pretty much everywhere he goes he's got at least two or three friends with him."kempker's disappearance is somewhat of a mystery to family and friends. "there wasn't really anything out of the norm taking place in his life or things that he was doing that would lead us to think that we know why something like this would happen."while police have been searching with dogs and in the water, friends and family have also been looking for three days now."that has continued on a daily basis. like for example, right now there are i believe 30-some-odd people are on and around sherman island doing a search effort."david kempker is about six feet tall

(robin) a suspected d-u-i crash sent one man to the hospital. it happened yesterday at the intersection of junipero serra boulevard and serramonte boulevard in colma. you can see the damaged cars in these photos from the scene. police say the driver of one car was sent to the hospital with major injuries. the other driver was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. (robin) a man is in jail after he was allegedly found in possession of child pornography. police say anthony smith of suisun city was arrested last thursday after a six week investigation. detectives learned of the illegal downloads at a home in the fairfield area. police searched smith's electronics and found that he was in possesion of numerous files of child porn. smith was arrested and booked into solano county jail. (robin) in the east bay. a car went up in flames. this happened on saturday night on william street in rodeo. police say the car involved was abandoned and

(robin) president trump's plan to tackle the nationwide opioid epidemic includes the death penalty for high-volume drug dealers. andrew bremberg, director of the white house domestic policy council, revealed details of trump's plan. trump has been outspoken about including the death penalty in his plan, but this is the first time it has been included in an official administration plan. congress recently appropriated six-billion dollars to help curb the opioid epidemic. ( terisa ) happening this morning... seven men will be in court on home invasion robbery charges. police say the men are connected to home invasion robberies in petaluma last week that led to a pursuit into novato. three of the men were arrested at s.f.o. while trying to board a flight back to the east coast. two thieves... a man and a woman... have still not been caught. deputies say the nine people went to three different homes along eugenia drive looking for marijuana they mistakenly thought was being grown there. officials say the group kicked in doors, tied up some of the people inside and pistol whipped one man. (reporter on cam)a family friend tells me david kempker loves the outdoors...but it sounds like he always tries to play it safe when he goes on adventures.27-year-old david kempker has been living and working in truckee for the past few years.he's an electrician by trade.nobody has seen him since early morning on monday the 12th.his family reported him missing the next day when he didn't come home.family friend adrian morse says a álot of people come to visit kempker when he

( terisa ) new this morning... richmond police arrested a man with a big pile of cash and drugs. officers received a tip about suspicious activity at a home on 25th steet. they issued a search warrant and found two guns... 38-thousand dollars in cash... and over 9-thousand dollars worth of drugs. one of the guns was stolen from georgia... and the other had a scratched out serial number. police arrested a 30-year old man for the crimes but have not released his name. ( terisa ) investigators in san francisco are looking into a deadly fire at an adult video store. the fire at "don's" on sixth street near mission street started just

after 2 saturday morning. the fire was quickly brought under control... and did not spread to other buildings. the person who died has not been identified. ( james ) in the east bay... a car went up in flames. this happened saturday night on william street in rodeo. authorities say the car involved was abandoned and stolen out of fairfield. right now.. police are looking for the person who started the fire. ( james ) a fast food restaurant in the east bay is cleaning up... after a car came crashing through the entrance. you can see this black sedan inside the taco bell at the green valley shopping center in danville.. it happened on diablo road near 680 around eleven sunday morning. no one inside the restaurant was hurt. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. ( terisa ) a d-u-i crash sent one man to the hospital early sunday morning. it happened at junipero serra boulevard and serramonte boulevard in colma around four

( terisa ) a man is recovering after being swept into the ocean. it happened off the sonoma county coast at salt point state park saturday. police say the victim was on the rocks near the water when a wave swept him out about 300 feet. a lifeguard swam out to help the victim. then... a helicopter rescue team flew the man to santa rosa memorial hospital. he's now in stable condition. ( terisa ) a pilot is recovering this morning... after his small plane crashed in the yuba river. this is video of the c-h-p rescue chopper. this happened about 8:30 sunday morning near marysville. the pilot -- 66-year-old timothy bennette -- was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the plane hit power lines in the area before crashing into about three feet of water. about 16 homes were left without power because of the crash. the f-a-a is investigating the accident.
