at travis air force base in solano county. a car burst into flames... after crashing near the main gate... this happened around 7:00 last night.(catherine)travis air force base officials and the fbi are investigating -- they say there are no current threats to the base. the driver involved died - no one else was hurt.about 7-thousand about 7-was hurt.about 7- thousand active military members and more than 3- thousand civilians live and work on the base. (grant) more breaking news: the intense storm that hit the bay area is not only causing problems locally... now -- a northern california dam ácouldá give way.hello -- i'm grant lodes.(catherine) and i'm catherine heenan in for vicki liviakis.here's what we know... the mocassin dam had been in "imminent danger of failing earlier today...as of about ten minutes ago -- the danger was downgraded -- although there is still a possibility the dam could fail.this is all

happening east of the bay area - in tuolumne county. if this dam breaks -- the flood waters will move down moccasin creek to the don pedro reservoir.(grant) flooding was already being reported below the dam.. this is a photo from the tuolumne county sheriff's office. the department of fish & wildlife evacuated the moccasin fish hatchery. we will continue to monitor the situation.. (catherine) cleanup is underway around the bay area... here's a look at just some of the local damage from the storm.... on the left -- video of a mudslide that happened in martinez. on the top right --- a picture of a downed oak tree in penngrove. and on the bottom right-- a downed tree which took out power lines in the santa cruz mountains. kaleen (kuh-lean) white was sound asleep... the next -- she was startled out of bed. kaleen white/neighbor- "i heard a big crash." when she walked out of her home at the penngrove village mobile home park... this is the first thing she saw. a massive oak tree down on the ground.kaleen white/neighbor- "it did hit my car, but it just has some hood damage and then i saw this one and it was oh so sad." the owner of this truck fears it's a total loss. fortunately, the property manager says no one was injuried. though a water main was ruptured.keith brandt/neighbor- "totally unexpected. i mean, there was no wind, no nothing. you know, you'd expect it in a wind storm, but we didn't have anything going on." just a lot of water. cars were turned back in sonoma at highway 121 and highway 12. the intersection flooded with several inches of water. the roads were closed directly in front of the schell-vista fire station... but a fire captain says services were not disrupted. crews were still able to respond to emergency calls. and, further north, the rohnert park expressway near stony point road was re-opened just before noon. it had been closed in the morning due to

flooding. this driver received a warning from the california highway patrol for passing through the barricades before the area was officially re-opened. in sonoma county, philippe djegal, kron four news. (grant) the wet weather caused a lot of problems on the roads. drivers going over the golden gate bridged this morning faced a huge backup after a truck crashed into the toll booth. you can see the truck as crews worked to clear it... it's not clear yet exactly what caused the crash. the kron four morning news always has the latest traffic updates to help you get around. our robin winston is always tracking the morning commute. (grant) the storm is responsible for uprooting lots of trees here locally.... however, some of the more dangerous trees are being taken down... before they can cause damage. kron4's haaziq madyun was on the scene... as a huge tree was removed today in the east bay. removing a potentially

dangerous hazard. that is what is happening here on cordell drive in alamosotthe job of removing it belongs to this crew from waraner tree experts sotthat combination of wind and heavy rain is usually responsible for downing these massive trees. however if this one came down it would likely cause tremendous damage in this residential neighborhood sotcan't have a fear of heights in this line of work. you have to climb your way up to the top, secure each tree limb with a rope, then whip out your chainsaw and let it ripsotwaraner tree experts say they have been very busy during this storm season, looks like that trend will continue due to threats of heavy rain in the forecast...in alamo haaziq madyun kron4news (anchor) time now to check on

our weather... with our weather... with meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez (mabrisa rodriguez)for tonight tracking gradual clearing. there will likely be a period of no precip before another weaker/drier system approaches from the north. latest model guidance continues to bring showers back to the north bay early friday before spreading south as a cold front enters norcal. it should be noted that this next system will not have a tropical tap and a colder source region translating to lower rainfall and lower snow levels. the chance for showers will continue into saturday as the cold front finally moves through the bay area. behind the front the upper low moves

we are following tonight-- police say the suspect involved in a shootout with officers in san francisco-- has died. (catherine) it happened at a barbershop on the corner of geneva avenue and london street. four other people-- including an officer-- were shot. kron 4's dan kerman is live in san francisco tonight with the latest details. dan? this is security video on geneva avenue seconds before a gunfire breaks out inside the amazon barbershop you see police on scene some are already in the shop people walking along the sidewalk like any other day then suddenly everyone scatters when gunfire eruptssot naiel nasrah/daniel's pharamacythis man owns the pharmacy next door where two of the barbers who were shot were brought.sot the owner of the barbershop says there were 11 rounds fired inside the shop and they are easy to spot he says there were 6 or 7 people in the shop at the timesotthe

adviser h.r. mcmaster... with john bolton. bolton is a former u-s ambassador to the united nations. president trump tweeted today that mc- master has done an outstanding job & will always remain his friend. he says bolton will take over april 9. the president has repeatedly clashed with mcmaster, a respected three-star general. his departure follows president trump's dramatic ouster of secretary of state rex tillerson last week. mcmaster was brought in after president trump's first national security adviser, michael flynn, was fired. (grant) and fears of a trade war... spooked traders on wall street. the dow plummeted 724 points today after president trump made the announcement about tarrifs. today marked the fifth-largest point loss in market history. investors fear the tariffs on steel and aluminum will spark a global trade war. misetr trump decided to exempt canada, mexico and the european union,

but tariffs will hit chinese imports hard... and beijing has already threatened to retaliate against the united states...saying it has no fear of a trade war. (catherine) the diablo valley college campus in pleasant hill is set to reopen tomorrow. it was closed today because of a shooting threat. kron 4's lydia pantazes reports. diablo valley college has cancelled all classes and college activities today at their main pleasant hill campus due to a "potentially serious threat" that has been made against the college.the announcement was made on the college website. diablo valley college police lt. ryan huddleston said the threat was found somewhere on campus and the administration made the decision to close the pleasant hill campus for the day. the police department is currently investigating the threat. the college said on its website that the closure is being made as a precaution and that the "safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority."we talked to students and school officials

(grant) with all that rain and wind...drivers faced dangerous conditions in the santa cruz mountains this morning. (catherine) the wet soil caused a tree to come down on summit road--- shutting down both lanes. kron 4's will tran reports. mudslides and downed trees are some of the biggest concerns in the santa cruz mountains this tree fell around 4 in the morning taking with it two

power lines and the electricity to many people off of summitt road just off of highway 17.at 11 in the morning.. crews still had the road shutoff in both directions to allow tree cutters to come in and remove the 100 foot tree before p g and e crews could work on restoring power.authorities still have to work on what caused the tree to collapse but given the non stop rain in the santa cruz mountains throughout the overnight and most of the day. one of the things they will be looking at is did the soil get too wet and too weak to hold the tree? the danger is not over.. because we are not still not done with the rain.in the santa cruz mountains will tran kron 4 news (anchor) time now to check on our weather... with meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez

(catherine) pg&e - hit by accusations that its power lines might have sparked last october's devastatingwine country wildfires....is talking about what it says is a comprehensive a new safety program... part of the strategy - the company says it will start switching off power lines inareas where 'extreme fire conditions' spring up... that's a step the company has resisted until now. pg&e also says it will get more aggressive about trimming trees near power lines.. that's aside from the tougher regulations on clearing trees and brush - already ordered by the state in december. the changes could also mean that power poles will look different.. she says she says that micro-

out of moneyon thursday, the house passed its massive 1.3 trillion dollar budget, sending it over to the senate. the 2,232 page spending bill was released by gop leaders wednesday night, making it virtually impossible for lawmakers to read it before casting their votes. rep. paul gosar, (r) freedom caucus member: "this represents everything that's wrong with this process. bad process builds bad policy builds bad politics"speaker paul ryan defended the timing, saying nothing in the bill should be a surprise to his membersrep. paul ryan, (r) house speaker: "these things have been long works in progress. the finishing touches came out this week, and we have a hard deadline that we're working up against." aside from the process... there are issues with the bill that are throwing its outcome into question. . house democrats wanted protection for daca recipients included in the bill, but didn't get it. house conservatives, meanwhile, are balking at the 1.3 trillion dollar price tag - a concern shared by some republican senators, like rand paul, who tweeted - shame, shame. a pox on both houses - and parties. $1.3 trillion. busts budget caps. 2200 pages, with just hours to try to read it.paul

around hall's legs and was found during a drug search. he landed at new york's j-f-k airport last saturday. (catherine) a mother is in trouble with the law - and caused a social media uproar - after posting a videoin which she apparently gave marijuana to her one-year-old child. (grant) it happened in north carolina. reporter adam owens has the video. at first you hear the child coo.then an adult moves what looks like a cigarette near the child's mouth.a small cloud of smoke wraps around the child's head.this short video, posted on social media, sent many people on the internet into an uproar.a police investigation led to the arrest of the child's mother, 20-year-old brianna lofton of raleigh.according to warrants, it was marijuana she was giving her one-year-old child.w-r-a-l news was there as lofton stood before a magistrate with tears in her eyes.according to warrants, the incident happened around december and january.in their own facebook post, raleigh

are the stories we're tracking in your neighborhood tonight... (grant) one man is dead and two others are injured after two shootings in oakland. first-- police responded to 8th street...near the west oakland bart station... around 8-thirty last night...after reports of a shooting. a man, who had been shot once, was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. minutes later... two other men came into the hospital with gun shot wounds. one of the men died from his injuries and the other was in stable condition. it is unkown if the shootings are related at this time. (grant) and in pleasant hill -- police need your help. they're looking for this man... accused of robbing the pacific service credit union on contra costa boulevard wednesday. police say the suspect passed a note to a teller demanding money while flashing a handgun in his waistband. the man was last seen running southbound on contra costa boulevard.

(catherine) in the south bay. a homeless shelter in sunnyvale will extend its operations from six months....to year-round. the santa clara county board of supervisors voted unanimously to spend more than one-point-one million dollars to make the change at the 'home-first' shelteron hamlin court in sunnyvale.. it's now the county's second shelter to open year-round - along with san jose. (grant) on the peninsula -- three workers in got sick while cleaning out an empty apartment on willow road...in menlo park. they complained of a strong odor... firefighters later said that other workers felt better after going outside. there were initial suspicions the unit might have been used as a meth lab....but a haz-mat team traced the problem to a more simple source --- -a variety of cleaning products. the area is now considered safe.

(grant) student survivors from the parkland, florida high school shooting are back in washington, two days before this weekend's march for our lives. (catherine) the students and their many supporters are at the capitol to push for tougher gun laws, including universal background checks. brie jackson has the story. students don't feel safe in school.aalayah eastmond says she was lucky to survive the deadly mass shooting at her

florida school. now she wants to be a voice for the classmates and teachers who died. build schools for our safety. gun control, metal detectors, check our bags whatever you need to do to make us feel safe.eastmond and her fellow students are in washington d.c. for this weekend's march for our lives rally. they want to get the attention of lawmakers. we can no longer say "that's a republican issues, that's a democrat issue". this is an american issue.the students say they want stronger background checks and bans on military style weapons. senator dianne feinstein says congress is listening.we can get the bump stocks stopped, and we can get the assault weapons stopped. this is what we are trying to do.brie jackson/d.c. correspondent: congressional leaders are taking steps to reduce violence by including the fix nics act in the spending bill. the measure would improve background checks and encourage states to share more information for the national database.another measure with bi-partisan support allows law enforcment to confiscate weapons from gun owners áif red flags exist.senator richard blumenthal wants wider

'reeds trailer sales' in petaluma had been offering wholesale prices to wildfire victims who needed help rebulding... so when they received a call from someone wanting to buy a generator for their food truck to help raise money for victims ... they believed them. now they're finding out... months later... those credits cards the thieves used were declined ... and the cards were actually ástolen from wildfire victims. ann reed sot "when you have someone be that deceptive to take advantage of you right on the heels of our being so generous it is particularly insulting."(grant) the owners at reeds say got away with over 7-thousand dollars worth of merchandise.
