bay... it's still unclear why a student brought a loaded handgun to arroyo high school in san loranzo. offcials put the school on lockdown friday while police investigated. kron-4's hermela aregawi reports police arrested one teenager. it was an emotional day for students at arroyo high in san lorenzo... who in tense moments.. though they would be the latest victims of a mass shooting. christopher yalung/studenteverybody was really scared for their lives and everything. everybody seemed to be getting ready for a fight in case somebody was going to come in with a gun. i myself grabbed the fire extinguisher and hid behind the door seeing and waiting to see anybody was going to come in.jorge flores/ parent"well i was shocked i didn't receive a phone call for anybody. my son just told me about it completely completely upset about what happened. around 2:30 friday afternoon.. police received a call about a student in a classroom with a

gun .. prompting a lockdown. police say they were able to arrest the 15 year old without incident.. and found a loaded gun near him. they believe he hid it there.ray kellywe don't know if this was meant to intimidate somebody. was he going to actually fire the weapon after school, was he targeting a particualr person? we know that he had a significant fight here related to the school off campus yesterday in which the student was stabbed. we are not sure if this was connected and this was maybe a retaliation for that event. collision... this tesla sedan barely recognizable... after slamming into the median on southbound highway 101 near the highway 85 flyover... . flipping in the air and then hit by two other cars on the landing . ofc. art montial/chp- "the entire vehicle caught on fire. so, it pretty much was fully engulfed." the california highway patrol says the driver of the tesla... a man in his early thirties... was pulled out of the car by witnesses. he was taken to stanford medical center where he later died. officer art montiel says the two other drivers involved were not seriously hurt. he says it's unclear why the tesla lost control... but that investigators are looking into it.ofc. art montiel/chp- "we have seen in the past as people are traveling southbound on 101, on the left lane, which is gonna be the one that's gonna be the flyover to state route 85 southbound and suddenly, they try to change lanes and go into the, uh, to try to stay on the 101 southbound." the c-h-p says because the battery of the electric tesla was exposed... officers chose to wait until tesla

engineers showed up and checked the car battery to determine if it was safe or not to move. the fear was that the car might explode. ofc. art montiel/chp- "all the other vehicles they have their batteries, you know, that's usually not an issue, uh, but because we don't know too much about tesla batteries, that's why we contacted tesla." initially, the c-h-p says the tesla engineers determined the battery was 70-percent charged and needed to be weakened before the car could be taken away. just after 2-15 in the afternoon... about five hours after the crash... the battery was deemed safe. in mountain view philippe djegal, kron four news. ( marty ) and a deadly crash in santa clara caused delays ... between harrison and lafayette streets. it happened friday morning. police say the driver was speeding in the wrong direction on el camino. you can see the car crashed over a barrier .. at the mission inn. the road was closed for several hours, as police investigated the crash and removed the car. no other cars were involved in the crash. the driver was pronounced dead at

( marty ) the fbi has updated it's investigation into a so called "security incident" at travis air force base in solano county. this is video showing the moments after a car burst into flames after breaching the security gate wednesday. the man behind the wheel is identified as hafiz kazi. he's been living in the u.s. since 1993 after immigrating from india. the f-b-i says he had five propane tanks, three gas cans, and several lighters in the car.

police say the woman finished her banking and had walked to a nearby coffee shop. that's where one of the robbers named mister simmons, pictured on the left, allegedly.. grabbed the victim's purse from her. he then ran to an awaiting car, where a second man - tyrone king, pictured on the right, was waiting to take off. but king crashed into a fence, the robbers tried to run but were quickly caught by police. ( marty ) san ramon police have arrested thomas pancoast on numerous charges including sexual assault of an intoxicated woman. police say these crimes have been happening for three years. pancoast was booked into the contra costa county jail and is being held on 12 and a half million dollars bail. ( marty ) former raider-- and 49er... aldon smith.... has been arrested again. he was taken into custody early friday in san francisco. police say, smith violated a court order ... by contacting the victim in a recent domestic violence incident. police issued a warrant... and smith turned himself in this morning.

the 28-year-old former star is accused of assaulting his fiance at her home in san francisco's nob hill neighborhood. last week, he pleaded not guilty to the original charges. ( marty )some sad news for parents and students attending a redwood city elementary school. the superintendent is recommending closing the school... because of decreasing enrollment. kron 4's dan kerman reports from redwood city where parents and other people are fighting to keep it open. over the last decade fair oaks community school in redwood city has seen it's enrollment drop from just under 500 to just over 200 this year. the projected enrollment for next year is even worsesot jorge quintana/redwood city school district spokesman 12-20next school year is projected to have 186 but 40 families have asked to transfer to other schools .now in this letter to parents the superintendent has announced he's recommending

reid binion takes a closer look at what you should do to avoid catching a cold or flu on a plane. stuck at 30,000 feet with just inches of personal space, airplanes can be the perfect incubators for germs and disease.according to a new study in the journal "proceedings of the national academy of sciences," the best way to avoid getting sick is to book a window seat. the study found people with a window seat were less likely to get up to use the restoom or check the overhead bin, meaning they were less likely to come into contact with germs.researchers say lavatories are covered in germs, since there's usually only two of them on a flight of about 150 passengers. reasearchers also analyzed passenger movements and studied air samples. they found passengers sitting within two seats or one row away from sick person have an 80-percent chance of catching an illness, compared to passengers sitting further away. but for most of the other passengers in the cabin, the risk of catching anything is minimal.still you can lower your odds even more, by not touching your face, and keeping your hands off the aisle seats.for today's health minute, i'm reid binion.

happening the same day as a planned massive protest in washington, d.c. to advocate for gun control.the protests come in the wake of the february 14 shooting at stoneman douglas high school in florida that left 17 people dead.according to the march for our lives lives website, the purpose of the event is to "come together to support the national movement calling on lawmakers to make students' safety a priority and pass common sense gun legislation." the event here at civic center plaza is one of many throughout the bay area.there are several scheduled today and they all start at different times, including pacifica, oakland and burlingame.reporting live in san francisco, lydia pantazes kron4 news. thanks lydia... we'll check in with you throughout the morning. ( marty ) new this morning ... a man accused of trying to solicit sex from a minor is now under arrest. 20-year-old alden cacpal ... was arrested on friday afternoon. he was extradited from arizona ... and taken to solano county after a four month investigation. cacpal is now facing multiple charges. ( marty ) in the east bay, police arrested two men for stealing a woman's purse in san leandro. police say the woman finished her banking and had walked to a nearby coffee shop. that's where one of the robbers named mister simmons, pictured on the left, allegedly.. grabbed the victim's purse from her. he then ran to an awaiting car, where a second man - tyrone king, pictured on the right, was waiting to take off. but king crashed into a fence, the robbers tried to run but were quickly caught by

( marty ) san ramon police have arrested thomas pancoast on numerous charges including sexual assault of an intoxicated woman. police say these crimes have been happening for three years. pancoast was booked into the contra costa county jail and is being held on 12 and a half million dollars bail. ( marty )some sad news for parents and students attending a redwood city elementary school. the superintendent is recommending closing the school... because of decreasing enrollment. kron 4's dan kerman reports from redwood city where parents and other people are fighting to keep it open. over the last decade fair oaks community school in redwood city has seen it's enrollment drop from just under 500 to just over 200 this year. the projected enrollment for next year is even worsesot jorge quintana/redwood city school district spokesman 12-20next school year is projected to have 186 but 40 families have asked to transfer to other schools .now in this letter to parents the superintendent has announced he's recommending
