to class after the chaos. (vicki) kron 4's rob fladeboe has been at the scene all afternoon-- rob, what can you tell us about the threat? (rob live) all quiet here at cupertino high school right now. after school activities are going on as scheduled but it was a chaotic scene here just after lunchas many students acted as though try were quite literally running fortheir lives. let's go to the video... this is a clip from a cell phone video that captures the frantic scene duringthe lunch hour after an announcement ordered them to evacuate the campus.and who can blame them in the wake of a recent rash of threats, both real and imagined, made against schools. this time, according to the santa clara county sheriff's office,there was an anonymous phone call threatening violence against the school. many students were at lunch, others were still in class while still others were off campus for lunch when the

announcement came. everybody was just trying to get away from the school. let's hear now from a couple of very frightened students and then from the sheriff's department. the sheriff's office swept the school and discovered nothing that might be considered a threat. there was no shooter, no weapons were found. the all clear came around 3 o'clock as students were dismissed for the day. many a worried parent could be seen arriving to pick up their kids amid some happyreunions. (rob live) this is the second such episode here at cupertino high school in the pastfew weeks. we've confirmed that back on february 28th, a student receivedseveral anonymous text messages threatening violence in the form of a bomb threat. no bomb was found. it's not clear of there is any connection between the two cases. despite that apparent panic by students running away from the schoo, a fremont union school district official praised students, teachers and sheriff'sdeputies for their quick response to the perceived emergency.live in cupertino rob fladeboe kron 4 news

(grant) happening now-- the n-t-s-b is investigating the rrcent fatal crash and fire...involvoing a tesla. the agency says it's not clear whether the telsa model-x was operating on auto-pilot when it crashed on highway 101 in mountain view on friday. investigators will also study the fire that broke out after the crash. 38-year-old wei huang of san mateo was driving the tesla...and died. police say huang was traveling south in the carpool lane when the tesla hit a freeway barrier-- and caught fire. (vicki) a big mess for commuters in the east bay-- after a police chase ends in a crash. it happened at port chicago highway in concord early this morning. the off-ramp was closed most of the morning-- but is now back open. it started when police responded to a burglary... and the suspects led officers on a pursuit. the driver crashed near that off-ramp on highway four.

the suspects were taken to the hospital with major injuries. (grant) and we're learning more about another police chase -- this one took place on the bay bridge.it all started just after midnight and ended in pleasant hill... this is video of the driver being taken into custody.. the entire chase lasted about 15 minutes.police say the chase started when the suspect almost hit a chp cruiser with a van while driving through a construction zone. the driver is facing charges including dui and driving on a suspended license. (vicki) it's been a rough start to the week for the student body at oakland technical high school. this after a beloved member of the varsity football team passed away late last week. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with the young man's friends and head coach... who say they lost a great guy. (philippe) pulling out a deck of cards... and, playing "uno" in a classroom is a lunchtime tradition for this group of guys at oakland technical high school. but on this day, and everyday moving forward... they'll be one person short.daniel khan/friend- "ima just

remember his sense of humor -- and his intelligence." oakland tech junior jeremiah joyner played outside linebacker on the varisty football team. his mother confirms that he passed away at a hospital in oakland late last week. the circumstances surrounding his death are unclear. troubling for his friends and former teammates, who say the last time they saw him he seemed healthy and was in good spirits.christian spencer/former teammate- "it's very upsetting. it still doesn't feel real. it just, i feel like i'm going to see him in the hallway or something. or, at lunch." virdell larkins was jeremiah's head football coach.virdell larkins/head coach- "i wish more kids would have his work ethic." larkins says this is the first time in his coaching career that one of his players has passed away. he was looking forward to coaching jeremiah again next season. a smart kid with a good head on his shoulders. virdell larkins/head coach- "he was real liked -- real loved on our team. real loved on the campus." during the day, students stopped by the classroom where jeremiah played cards... dropping off sports memorabilia and writing him messages -- detailing how much he's missed. jonathan chao/friend- "he was a real go-getter. like, anything he did, he put all of his effort into it. and, uh, i think uh that's like a trait that all of us want to take in i the future." coach

(grant)(grant) california attorney general xavier becerra is suing the trump administration for adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census... catherine heenan is here with the latest conflict between state and federal officials... (grant) in the east bay-- elementary school students are met with anti-gay protestors as they arrive at school this morning. the westboro baptist church was there protesting transgender issues. kron 4's lydia pantazes reports form alamo. "earlier this morning counter protests filled the sidewalk here in front of rancho romero elementary school in alamo as the westboro baptist church protested in front of the school."(nats)a sea of rainbow umbrellas....made their way to the front of rancho romero elementary school.some even wore their unicorn onsies.... the group... a counter demonstration against protesters from the westboro baptist church, an organization designated as a hate group by the southern poverty law center and know for their inflammatory anti- gay protests. the group protested in front of the school between 8 and 830 tuesday morning."i couldn't believe they would come to this little town and bring their hate with them."(nats westboro)protesters from the

westboro baptist church say they came because of this image.its called the gender unicorn created by the trans student educational resources. rancho romero elementary school had a bulletin board maintained by a pta committee that promotes inclusion and diversity.in january the theme of the board was gender stereotypes which featured the gender unicorn.it was up for four hourse during school day. once parents complained it was revised."this is where we found the story and we saw the images so this is where we have to be because our job is to preach the gospel to every creature."but the westboro protesters say their protest isn't just about this school... they say it's about the entire state. of california. "california is the tip of the filth spear and you're paying in deep coin for it." but counter protesters say being here isn't so much about westboro but about sending a message to the community as a whole."i think it's really important to show any families that have a kid that's at all different that we support them and that they're included in our community and that they don't need to feel alone." (grant)(grant) there's new information on the fatal crash in arizona march 18th involving one of uber's self-driving cars...(vicki) the volvo s-u-v hit and killed a pedestrian near phoenix.. catherine heenan is here with the latest.. (catherine we learned today that uber technologies had disabled the standard collision avoidance technology in that volvo... which hit and killed a woman who'd been walking her bike across the road........ you're looking at video from the car that night.

since the accident - uber has suspended all self-driving tests on public roads in arizona, california, pennsylvania and ontario. now the company that makes the parts that supplied the car's radar and camera - says it wants everyone to know that its collision avoidance technology had not failed...but had been turned off. the company - called 'aptiv' - doesn't want its product tainted by the negative publicity. uber failed to slow down when a woman cross the street outside a crosswalk - pushing a bicycle. more fallout today -- uber will not renew its permit to test self-driving cars in california when it expires saturday. the state d-m-v said today in a letter that if uber wants its testing privileges back......it must first address the investigation into the arizona crash. and just this week - arizona's governor suspended all of the companies self- driving privileges. grant and vicki? stranded on a snowy mountain for more than a week. steve large has more on the story. ashley ehlert/mother found safe: "its been overwhelming to say the least."this is a picture of sheryl donovan's suv. in the spot where she sat inside it for 10 days.where she ran out of gas after making a wrong turn with no cell service to call for help. this is a picture of donovan, a 54-year-old grandmother, after a doctor's exam, her daughter is now caring for her, and still trying to learn what went wrong.ashley ehlert/mother found safe: "we've spoken with my mom, and her story. she's given us a little but at a time. i'm sure everyone can understand that this has been extremely traumatic."ashley ehlert says her mom used extra clothes in her suv to keep from freezing, and only had a single bottle of water with her the whole ten days she was missing. ashley ehlert/mother found safe: "she did sparcely drink that. so she took her time on exhausting the one bottle of water that she did have. she did eat some snow."donovan's suv was found near camptonville, california... a desolate spot in sierra county and a long way from her home destination of marysville.lt. robert bringolf/nevada county sheriff: "it would appear she took a right turn when she probably should have taken a left hand turn."lieutenant robert bringolf says search

heineken has pulled a commercial for it's light beer...after some compalints that it was racist. this is the ad in question. it features a bartender sliding a bottle of heineken light to a woman. the bottle travels past several black people before arriving at the lighter skinned woman. the clip...then ends with the tagline "sometimes lighter is better." chance the rapper called it "terribly racist" on twitter -- and thousands of other users

protesters taking to the streets in sacramento-- protesting the deadly police shooting of stephon clark. this is a live look from sacramento right now. the protesters are gathering outside of a city council meeting. we will continue to follow the protests as they continue tonight. (grant) mean time-- right now at 5:30-- kron 4 is always tracking local stories. and here's a look at what's happening in your neighborhood.. (vicki) tonight in the east bay-- the berkeley city council is considering placing a measure on the november ballot for a new police commission. if the measure makes it to the ballot -- voters will be asked to approve a new police oversight commission. it would replace the current police review commission. supporters of the measure say the current commission has it's recommendations ignored or delayed by the berkeley police chief. the new commission would allow more control by community members and their representatives.

the meeting is at 6:00 tonight at the city council chambers. .. (grant) in the south bay. the santa clara valley medical center trauma team...is teaching students how to stop severe bleeding...and potentially save a life. the training is being offered at the the team's medical campus in san jose. physicians and nurses are giving south bay high school students interested in medical careers... hands on access to bleeding control kits... and advice on how to stay calm in case of emergency. (vicki) on the peninsula... the man who threatened to shoot schools in san mateo county-- is now in custody. this is a picture of the man... taken inside a big 5 in san mateo. police say the man told an employee that he wanted to buy a gun... then he threatened to shoot up a school. san mateo police say they interviewed the man and he admitted making the threat... but he told police he was joking and apologized. he's now in protective custody at a hospital... for a mental health evaluation. (vicki) a man is behind bars for shooting two people

at random ... injuring one ... in east palo alto. the first shooting happened monday afternoon at the intersection of scofield street and capital avenue. the victim was sitting in traffic when a man pulled up in a silver s-u-v and shot at his car. the shooter then drove off and the victim followed him. minutes later the shooter fired at a woman walking and she was hit in the arm. the first victim stopped to help the woman. shortly after police found the shooter and arrested him. (grant) in the north bay-- the creators of napa's bottle-rock festival... will host a 2-day event for the first time in three years. its called the sonoma harvest music festival... and will be hosted at the b-r cohn winery in glen ellen in september. organizers say the winery will offer a more intimate festival experience.. overlooking the vineyard. 2-day passes go on sale tomorrow at 10 a-m. general admission starts at 225 dollars... and platinum passes will be 12-hundred dollars. lawrence karnow: temperatures soarded under high pressure

has succumbed to pressure from u-s lawmakers. he will now testify at a senate hearing on april 10th. this all comes after cambridge analytica reportedly accessed information from about 50- million facebook users without their knowledge. zuckerberg's willingness to testify means c-e-o's at google, twitter could be next. senate judiciary chairman chuck grassley officially invited all of them to the hearing. facebook... is currently planning a strategy for zuckerberg's testimony. ... has revealed a new "budget" i-pad targeted toward students. c-e-o tim cook and other apple executives showed off the device at a school in chicago today. it's the same size as the traditional i-pad... and costs 299 dollars for schools and 329 dollars for consumers. the company also talked about software features designed specifically for teachers and students... and a series of apps for the classroom. an alameda man is recovering from a serious injuries... after a pine tree fell on him. the city has since chopped down a second tree, and has checked every tree standing on that same slope. as kron 4's ali reid reports... this happened in washington park... while the victim was watching his daughter play softball. this accident was such a tragedy and thankfully that father survived and is recovering.after inspecting other trees in the area, the city says the park is safe for families to enter.pkgi find it crazy how a whole tree just fell on somebodywithin seconds, a large pine tree toppled over ... it's very scaryit crashed into this table, and a father that was watching his daughter play softball in the washington park field.gabriela montufarmy thoughts and prayers are for sure with the family and i hope everything is ok with him in fact, the parks department says the last time arborists assessed trees in the park was in 2017. maintenance staff
