in san francisco. good evening i'm vicki liviakis. (grant) and i'm grant lodes. we just learned a short time ago that the suspected driver has been arrested. the incident happened just before 10:30 this morning on illinois street at 24th street. kron 4's philippe djegal has been at the scene all afternoon-- philppe-- what can you tell us about the arrest? grant and vicki... that's right. just before four o'clock this afternoon... the san francisco police department announced the man they believe is responsible for what happened here is in custody... and, so is his vehicle. (philippe) witnesses say an argument between five men walking along illinois street... and, a driver in a white van quickly turned violent.witness/no name- "the guys on the street were just sort of messing around and then it got escalated." two witnesses say at around 10- 30 in the morning... the driver jumped out of his van and attempted to attack the pedestrians with a small hatchet or an axe. the

witnesses say the five men fought the driver off by whipping him with their belts. witness/no name- "they took the axe away from him and they chased him back to the van and he got in the van and screaming the whole way. just yelling at eachother. and, the guys started to walk away and he flipped the van around and he drove it up on the sidewalk full pedal to the metal." that's when the driver rammed the victims. one of the men was pronounced dead at a hospital. the other four remain hospitalized -- three are in serious condition.ofc. robert rueca/sfpd- "this incident appears to be very isolated. we do not believe that the general public is at risk in regards to this incident." witnesses say the driver seemed angry before the argument with the victims even started... but they didn't expect he would go as far as killing someone. witness/no name- "i'm definitely still in shock." the san francisco police department credits alert officers for helping to bring the suspect in. live in san francisco, philippe djegal, kron four news. (grant) happening now-- a search is underway for three missing children in mendocino county-- after a car plunged off a cliff. their parents and their parents and three other siblings were killed in that siblings were killed in that crash. the search is focused on and around the shoreline below highway one... they are also searching the water-- with assistance from the alameda county sheriff's department. the missing children are presumed dead.. the car was found monday.. it's not clear when exactly the crash happened. today we learned that the parents-- jennifer and sarah hart died along with three of their six adoptive children. the children who died have been identified as 19-year-old markis, 14-year-old jeremiah and 14-year-old abigal hart. the children who are missing are 15-year-old devonte, 16-year-old hannah and 12-year-old sierra. police say they believe all six kids were in the car at the time of the crash.

they say no skid marks they say no skid marks were seen near the cliff. the family recently moved to woodland, which is a suburb of portland, oregon. investigators say the family appeared to be on a short road trip because many remained in their home... along with chickens and a pet. we've also learned tonight -- one of the missing children -- once went viral for hugging an officer during protests over police shootings. this is the iconic photo -- showing devonte hart -- tears streamed down his cheek the photo was taken in 2014 in portland. we will continue to follow the latest developments and bring you more information when it becomes available. our children." david henry is talking about his mission involving spreading the word about this man. sheriff's deputies say timothy james kottler tried to lure henry's daughter into a pontiac grand prix as she was walking home from her middle school in this santa rosa neighborhood.henry. "he said don't you look pretty today, do i know you from the market?. henry says his daughter stayed strong keeping her distance from the man. henry. he had his door open, he said his window was broken, fortunately, an att technician was in the area and walked over, and the man drove away and waived.they got a license plate, turned it over to sonoma county sheriff's deputies who arrested kottler on an annoying or molesting a victim under 18 offense. but several hours after his arrest, kottler was let out of jail on bail. with the department issuing a warning saying he could be a possible threat to the community. henry. frustrated? very. they said if he touched, then locked up, but he didn't so out, and that is still not right. henry decided to print up these flyers. he is very glad his daugher his safe, and wants to make sure other children are too.

(vicki) in the east bay-- police in berkeley are investigating after a fetus washed up on shore. a person walking near the water discovered the fetus just west of the tom bates sports fields yesterday afternoon. investigators say it was a baby boy and that the fetus was fairly well developed with the umbilical cord still attached. they are now trying to figure out how the baby boy ended up in the water.... and who he belongs to. (grant) the family of a man shot dead by a vallejo police officer...is filing a civil rights law suit against the officer and the city of vallejo. kron 4's haaziq madyun was there when that announcement was made. sot civil rights attorney john burris is showing images of the body of 32-year-old ronell foster who died in an officer

and city governments.last thursday morning , atlanta's 8=thousand city employees arrived at work to find themselves locked out of their computers.their files could be decrypted only after payment of 51=thousand dollars. "this is much bigger than ransomware attack. this, really is an attack on our government, which means it's an attack on all of us." the virus known as samsam crippled computers and wireless networks and blocked access to important data. file names changed to "i'm sorry" and a message threatened to make the data permanently inaccessible within a week.the city departments impacted included the courts, police , city planning and human resources.9-1-1 emergency dispatch was not affected, and neither were operations at hartfield-jackson airport, although there was no wi-fi network for passengers. atlanta is the biggest city to be hit with the samsam malware... but it's not the only one.in the past few months, the birmingham, alabama suburb of leeds paid 12=thousand dollars to recover its files.a hospital in indiana paid 50=thousand dollars.colorado's department of transportation lost data on 2=thousand computers in february, and was in the process of restoring it when they were infected by a new mutated virus.the entire town of farmington, new mexico was shut down after it refused to pay 35=thousand.estimates are that almost half of ransomware victims do agree to pay.in about one quarter of the cases, the decryption still does not work.and in three

on the deadly crash involving an electric tesla model-x. tesla says the deadly crash was made more severe by a damaged freeway barrier. they say the barrier on 101 in mountain view was missing a piece designed to protect drivers. tesla posted this picture on their website. on the left you can see what the barrier looked like before it was damaged. and on the right is what it looked like just one day before the crash. tesla says they are still investigating if the car was operating on it's autopilot mode when it crashed. right now they are trying to recover logs from the car's computer. the n-t-s-b has dispatched a two person team to investigate. the 38-year-old driver of that

(grant) in the east bay-- police are looking for the thieves who stole from the boys and girl's club of contra costa. it happened last week in el sobrante. the organization estimates thieves stole 20-thousand dollars in computer equipment after an on site storage unit was broken into. the thieves got away with computers, monitors, keyboards, and more. the organization says it's unclear what impact this could have on programs this year. (vicki) in the south bay-- cupertino high school is back in session after this chaotic scene yesterday. a threat caused the school to evacuate hundreds of students. the school received a robo call threatening the campus. today-- deputies from the santa clara county sheriff's office were on campus as school started so parents and students felt safe returning to class. yesterday was the second time in two months the school received a threat. (vicki) in the south bay. government officials plan to build all-inclusive playgrounds at three san jose city parks. the county

funded the city with $four million dollars to construct the playgrounds at alum rock park...emma prusch farm park...and lincoln glen park. all-inclusive playgrounds go beyond traditional design requirements to ensure children with special needs...can access them. city officials estimate the playgrounds will be completed in a few years. (grant) in the north bay-- police are looking for a driver involved in a hit-and-run. it happened on highway 1-0-1 near tiburon on monday. 29-year-old marie singen-thaler was riding a motorcycle when she was hit by a car from behind. she was ejected into the roadway and another car hit and killed her. the second driver who hit singenthaler stayed at the scene. the first driver who caused the crash fled. police are now looking for the driver a late model chevy silverado pickup or a chevy tahoe. they say the car would have major damage to the right side of the front of the car. (vicki) a big story we've been tracking this week... authorities have positively identified the body of an aspiring actress reported missing last month. police found adea shabani's remains yesterday in a shallow grave in nevada county. those who knew her were shocked and saddened by the news. jasmine viel reports. tyler neale / neighbors: "how young she was came to la to pursue her dreams is such a sad story to end up like this." tyler neale is one of adea shabani's neighbors who took a moment to stop by the flowers and candles left for her outside the hollywood apartment building where she lived. it was an emotional night for her friends when news broke that lapd detectives found what's believed to be her body in a remote wildlife area northeast

of sacramento. the 25-year-old aspiring actress and model was reported missing late last month.tyler neale / neighbor: "i remember seeing her outside. i live right next - right in the next building over and then i and our signs out for, uh, missing persons." detectives released this elevator security video -in shabani's apartment -that shows her leaving with her boyfriend christopher spotz on a road trip to northern california to see his dad february 23rd. reporter standup: "one of her next door neighbors told me that he heard the couple arguing very loudly just a few days before they left on that trip, and that shabani mentioned feeling betrayed."detectives say spotz told them they got into an argument during that trip and he dropped her off in santa clarita.but investigators believe he instead killed & buried her a day later where her suspected remains were found.last week spotz shot and killed himself at the end of a police chase in riverside county.bryan wriggle / knew victim: "i couldn't understand how chris is involved in this." bryan wriggle went to acting school with spotz and shabani -but did not know they were in a relationship.he said spotz had another girlfriend who detectives are now questioning as his fiance. bryan wriggle / knew victim: "we've had so many great conversations and he's the positive nice guys that, you know, i've ever known."

see an adult hand holding the pot to the girls lips-- and she appears to inhale and lets out a puff of smoke. the girl's mother was arrested last week-- and the baby was placed with child protective services. (grant) apple is now facing dozens of lawsuits over slowed-down i-phones.. this - after admitting three months ago that it 'does' slow down older phones to save battery life.. catherine heenan is here with the details.. apple is 'not' getting away from this problem anytime soon...and is now facing nearly 60 lawsuits... angry i-phone users are even talking about making this a class-action lawsuit.. if that happens, it could become one of the biggest legal challengessince the 2007 debut of the i-phone. at least 59 separate lawsuits have been filed since december....withpeople accusing apple of slowing phones to prod customers into buying new models. apple denies that - claiming it was simply trying to prevent older batteries from shutting down unexpectedly.

a big story we' following tonight... authorities are looking for three missing children after their family car plunged off an embankment. (steve) a woman caught sneaking onto planes without a ticket a number of times... will stay behind bars. a chicago judge ruled yesterday that 66-year-old 'serial stowaway' marilyn hartman will remain in jail for now -- because of her history of repeat offenses. and hartman is very familiar in the bay area. four years ago hartman successfully snuck onto a plane at san jose mineta airport ... and flew to los angeles. she has also tried to get on several flights at s-f-o... but was arrested. hartman has been indicted on felony charges. she's set to appear in court again on february 21st. magnificent day around the bay. high pressure and sunny skies had temperatures running 10 to 15 degrees above average. it's will be a mild night with offshore winds blowing keeping our skies clear of any clouds. of course there is no rain showing up on the doppler radar at this time but that may change next week. on the satellite you can see the clouds being forced well over the top of the high pressure center. as that air sinks, it warms as it approaches the coast. tomorro will likely be the warmest day of the week with highs in the 60s and 70s at the coast, and 70s and 80s inland. we may see a few more clouds on friday and a sea breeze could bring some patchy fog and cooler temperatures to the coast.
