now amid some pretty dense fog. all things considered, i've seen worse but there's more rain to come. lat's take a look. while not eaxctly a spring shower, the april surprise storm is making it's presence known here in felton and elsewhere in the santa cruz mountains. it has delivered an atmospheric river of woe on highway 17 where traffic has been plagued by several crashes amid what emergency services director rosemary anderson likes to call "storm amnesia," when drivers let their guard down.rosemary anderson/santa cruz county emergency services "....last year we had a beautiful spring, it was a beautiful summer and then a mild winter, people get complacent about what readiness really means, when they should be ready all the time..."that said, sandbags are avaiable all the time here in paradise park along the san lorenzo river. there's only a slim chance the river could flood but residents will keep close watch on what happenes farther upstream says park manager paul polizzi.paul polizzi/paradise park manager "....it's not the water that we get here so much but it's the rain they get up high in the mountains, so even after
5:06 pm
it stops raining we have to be worried about it..." it rained good and hard overnight but then tapered off into a softer, more spring-like rain this afternoon. no major mud or rock slides have been reported and what's missing is the wind, which means few, if any downed trees and power lines. the santa cruz mountains appears to have escaped a direct hit, at least so far.rosemay anderson/emerge ncy services "....we are monitoring it closely, because of it takes a turn like atmospheric rivers sometimes do, then we would see an increase in our rain amounts into the evening and tomorrow, so we're really not sure what's going to happen with it..." (vicki) a warning tonight from

mill valley police.they are telling people who live in the the sycamore village area... consider moving your cars tonight to mill valley community center lot to avoid possible flooding. (grant) the much anticipated atmospheric river is hitting the north bay. rain has been falling steadily there all day. we're anticipating the brunt of the storm to hit between 11 o'clock tonight and 5 am tomorrow. as kron4's maureen kelly reports... santa rosa city crews are patrolling the burn zone, keeping an eye out for mudslides and flooding. we're anticipating up to 4 inches for the duration of the storm system. the 4 inches of rain is not necessarily the concern for us. it's the intensity so when we start looking and a half inch to an inch an hour that's definitely where we run into problems and for the potential for significant events to occur. santa rosa fire's assistant fire marshall says they've upped their resources in order
5:08 pm
to keep a closer eye on hillside areas affected by the northbay firestorm.....like the fountain grove area. we have additional fire fighters on hand a second battalion chief and we have roaming patrol's going along going around our hillside community. public works and water apartment are both doing patrols both checking on our systems and making sure that things are flowing that need to be flowing so far the other big storms since the october fires have not reached their anticpated potential.....but this one could. but the city and sonoma county have had protective measures in place for months.....including grass wattles...which eariler this year kept hazaderous materials from fire ravaged homes from entering the watershed.....and now serve a new purpose.now the fire debris gone we have a lot of open muddy lots that's why it's critical those things we referred to as bmps best management practices remain in place that's those grass waddles, the erosion control measures because they really need to keep the silt and sentiments on the site and keep it from migrating onto the property and impacting our storm drain systemthis storm is also already creating problems outside the burn zone. these men came to the
