probably seen them.. scooters parked all over the bay area... apparently there are no regulations on the books .. about where they can legally be placed and so some people think that means they are free to put them anywhere and every where ...the city of san francisco
4:40 am
is planning to put a stop to that because some people say the scooters are unsafe even dangerous. they're street legal but they are a nuisance and the city attorney of san francisco is seriously considering suing them for a nuisance violation strong words from aaron peskin, a member of the san francisco board of supervisors about all the scooters that hit the streets of san francisco if you look around san francisco it's really not hard to spot them . and the interesting part is this are you about to rent one of these (yea) have you ever rented one before (umm not this brand i just signed up now) you just signed up now what are the rules for riding one of these ( um i'm actually not sure) the truth is, not many people know the rules or for that matter will read the rules posted on the scooters one of the most important rules you have a license (yea i have a driver's license) you have a helmet) i don't have a helmet
4:41 am
but i have stuff in my hair it's pretty hard right now believe it or not the helmet requirement is state law a law not one rider i saw following today another law for scooter's since they are motorized they can only be ridden in the bike lane or in the street again it was hard to find anyone riding in the street, most were on the sidewalk like this guy rolling down a crowded market street sidewalk you have to be 18 and older to ride and you are required to have a valid driver's licensei think that the helmet law is for kids (nope motorized bikes you gotta have a helmet) but we see everybody with no helmets how old are you (i'm 16) you have to be 18 or over to operate one and you have to have a helmet in california. now watch this see the man riding on the sidewalk with no helmet he is dropping off the scooters on the embarcadero they are using this white van to place the scooters on the
4:42 am
street for rental and they are not even following state law the irony is that we actually introduced legislation to regulate them and require them to get permitsso right now there are no hard and fast rules to implement the scooters they decided to dump them on the streets before we got out legislation passes they are actually interested in asking for forgiveness rather than asking for permission and these things are a nuisance people are tripping over them, they're in front of people's businesses they're in front of people doorways umm they don't have helmets they've become a safety problem i also spoke the the san francisco police department they are concerned safety of pedestrians.. so some enforcement could soon be (robin) coming up on the kron 4 morning news ... facebook c-e-o mark zuckerberg is set to testify before congress today.
