(robin) a big story we are following this morning. mark zuckerberg testifying on capitol hill ... all because of facebook's mishandling of the personal data of 87- million- users. natasha chan breaks down the first day of testimony. the stakes couldn't have been higher for mark zuckerberg tuesday afternoon... as the facebook ceo testified before the senate judiciary and commerce committees.mark zuckerberg, facebook ceo: we didn't take a broad enough view of our responsibility,

(robin) in our other top story ... two men are behind bars facing murder charges for the shooting that happened in pleasant hill over the weekend. but the suspects were not caught anywhere near the bay area.as kron 4's ali reid explains ... one is being held in arizona, the other in new mexico. police got a tip that both suspects were from georgia and that they were heading back in that direction.once in arizona, investigators coordinated with law enforcement there.pkgthe two murder suspects involved in

saturday night's marijuana deal turned robbery and shooting ... were stopped before they were able to get to their destination in georgia.once in that area we notified law enforcement officials in the state of arizona as to his whereabouts. while in arizona, state troopers conducted a traffic stop. there were 4 people in the car. policee say 3 of them got out, including luther lee . investigators believe lee set up the robbery. he was arrested on an outstanding warrant from pleasnt hill p-d. 29 year old keith jones .. who authorities say was the shooter, took off ... going speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour. he was eventually caught after a spike strip deflated his tires at the new mexico state border.i'm glad they caught hima close friend of the victim ... oshry elor ... says it still doesn't seem real that he was killed inside his home.i actually broke down in the driveway. he's not the type of person that deserves

any of that.standuppleasant hill p-d is looking to charge both men with robbery and homicide.there were 2 other passengers in the vehicle.they were released from custody without being charged. reporting live from pleasant hill ... ali reid ... kron 4 news. (robin) in other bay area news ... the f-b-i is offering up to 20- thousand dollars ... for information in a 20-16 murder. brian bole was killed while walking home. the 30- year old had just left a bar, when he was killed on richmond boulevard in oakland. police say he was approached by a suspect who shot him and then ran. now, the f-b-i is offering a 20- thousand dollar reward. the reward is for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible. (robin) a daly city man wanted for robbing five bay area banks has been arrested by the f-b-i. authorities dubbed gregory vaughan, the "big man bandit".he was taken into custody over the weekend after a san mateo police officer spotted the suspect's gold

cadillac in the parking lot of the jockey club. the 50-year old allegedly admitted to robbing banks in san mateo, san jose, and campell. he was booked into san mateo county jail on 300-hundred thousand dollar bail. (robin) in the east bay ... new questions this morning about a sheriff's deputy arrested for having sex with inmates at the contra costa jail. kron 4's dan kerman has more. it was last week when contra costa sheriff's deputies arrested one of their own, deputy patrick morseman for allegedly having sex with two female inmates at the west county detention facility. at the time the sheriff's office said while unlawful, "the sexual activity (was) with a consenting adult". not so says one of the inmate's attorneyssot neama rahmani/inmate's attorney 19-26 absolutely not this was rape by force and threat of additional jail time.in fact attorney neama rahmani says despite their claims of consensual sex, the sheriff's department knows it wasn'tsot

my understanding of internal sheriff's department documents contain evidence that support multiple charges of rape by color of authority and oral copulation with threats by a public officialsthe sheriff's office had also indicated money was placed into inmates jail accounts. rahmani says it was a payoffit was hush money. after sexually assaulting the victims the deputy said what do i need to do to get you to shut up and he put $300 in one of the victim's inmate accounts.the sheriff's office has concluded its investigation and is not longer commenting on the case standup dan kerman/late in the afternoon, the sheriff's office turned the case over to the da's office, it's unknown how long they will take to decide whether to file charges and if so what type of charges. dan kerman kron 4 news. reciepts to complete transactions. by the end of the month, all of the big credit card companies, such as american express, mastercard and discover plan will not require stores to get an autograph. a spokesperson with the merchant advisory group says signatures are obsolete, pointing to the benefits of chips as a better way to protect consumers. kron 4s charles clifford shows us ... it was all captured on surveillance video. normally, this blue postal service mailbox sits here along chabot road in oakland, quietly doing it's job. but early monday morning, someone stole it. the box was bolted to the ground but the theives yanked it out of the sidewalk. the caper was captured on surveillance video.around 1am monday morning, you can see what appears to be a flatbed truck pull up to the intersection and shine it's headlights lights on the blue mailbox. less than 30 seconds later, the box is pulled from the concrete.natsthe truck backs up natsand then drives off into the night. the entire heist lasted less than a minute. the us postal service is now investigating. sotpostal inspectors in our oakland office and our mail theft team are working on this right now. this is a serious federal offense with up to 5 years in federal prison and a 250000 dollar fine.it's unlcear exactly what may have been in the mailbox, but apparently this isnt the first time this box has been stolen. marty nemko lives just up the streetsotwe do have a bunch of

(robin)(robin) california lawmakers advanced ten opioid - related bills ... all in an effort to curb drug addiction in the state. half of the bills passed yesterday would increase monitoring .... or make it easier to track opioid prescriptions. one bill would allow california to share prescription records with other states. that measure is aimed at making it easier to identify patients who cross state lines

(robin) the man behind burning man is in the hospital after suffering a massive stoke. larry harvey was hospitalized last week and remains in critical condition. event organizers shared the news on their website, adding harvey's prognosis is unknown but he is receiving around the clock care. harvey founded burning man in 19-86 in san francisco. the event has moved to nevada's black rock desert where about 70-thousand people gather each year. (robin) california lawmakers decided against adopting a zero tolerance

policy on people under the age of 21 .... who drive under the influence of marijuana. a bill proposed by state senator jerry hill of san mateo, called for a one-year suspension of driver's licenses for minors who are caught driving with marijuana in their system. however, the proposal was met with opposition from drug legalization advocates, and lawmakers .... who felt that the law targets minorities. instead, a first offense will result in a warning.. a second offense will result in a point on the driver's record. the third offense will result in a suspended license.

san francisco is known for having homeless encampments across the city. they start off small but then explode to huge tent communities. stanley roberts shows us whats behind that rapid growth in this edition of people behaving badly. this is a lime scooter which was found in a homeless encampment near the corner of de haro and berry in san francisco nats ambiance it was missing the front wheel and apparently the gps trackernow its heading to the dump but that's not the only one, workers also recovered a spin scooter i'm not quite sure if the gps tracker is still attached also found, a spin bike share it was completely stripped and the name was painted over i used a knife to scrape off the paint to confirm nats: ambiance workers also found a smith and wesson bicycle, i had no idea smith and wesson made bikes. there was a scoot motorcycle helmet as wellworkers found a brand new air conditioner still wrapped in plastic and

(robin) students at cal poly san luis obispo ...are outraged after racially charged photos from a fraternity surfaced on social media. it shows a fraternity member posing in black-face. others were dressed as gang members ...flashing gang signs. hundreds of students held an emergency town hall to denounce racism and intolerance after the photos surfaced on social media. the lambda chi alpha fraternity has been placed on interim suspension while the university reviews the situation. (robin) a mother says a smart watch saved her life after it buzzed with an alert about her heart rate. it said her heart rate was over 120. she and her husband

retirement and the closure of virginia bakery in berkeley. the couple posted the news on the bakery's facebook page saying, they will be closing permanently on april 28th. the bakery has been in their family for 65- years... but they say, it is time to move on. ( james ) breaking international news. president trump warned russia that "missiles" will be coming to syria. moments ago he tweeted:"russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at syria. get ready russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and smart!'" trump didn't say whether he was referring to a u.s. military strike. russia has warned the united states that moscow would view an airstrike on syria as a war crime, saying it could trigger a direct military clash between the two countries. syria is suspected of a poison gas attack that killed dozens on saturday.

( darya ) two men have been arrested in connection with a homicide in pleasant hill this past weekend. 23- year-old oshry elor was killed inside this home, at norse drive and viking street saturday night. police believe elor was shot by a robber who was trying to steal his marijuana. police received a tip that the suspects were from georgia and they were heading back.

state of new mexico. they have been identified as keith jones of cusseta, georgia, and the other is luther lee of columbus, georgia. the police department will be seeking charges of homicide and robbery against mr. jones as well as mr. lee.> ( darya )during the traffic stop in arizona, jones led police on a chase... where they eventually caught him in new mexico after using a spike strip. ( james ) a daly city man wanted for robbing five bay area banks has been arrested by the f-b-i. authorities dubbed gregory vaughan, the "big man bandit".he was taken into custody over the weekend after a san mateo police officer spotted the suspect's gold cadillac in the parking lot of the jockey club. the 50-year old allegedly admitted to robbing banks in san mateo, san jose, and campell. he was booked into san mateo county jail on 300-hundred thousand dollar bail. ( darya ) an east bay bakery announced it is closing at the end of this month after being open for 84 years. owners john and anne erdmann announced their retirement and the closure of virginia bakery in berkeley. the couple posted the news on the bakery's facebook page saying, they will be closing permanently on april 28th. the bakery has been in their family for 65- years... but they say, it is time to move on.
