robbery. it shows the violent confrontation outside an east bay restaurant. hello i'm grant lodes.(vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis. tonight we know a 61-year-old woman has died.. the violent attempted robbery happened friday in alameda.. outside a vietnamese restaurant on webster street around 11:00 p-m kron4's dan kerman joins us live. a 61-year-old woman died tuesday of injuries she suffered during a violent attempted robbery last friday in alameda, police said today. officers responded to a report of a fight in front of a restaurant at 1919 webster st. around 11 p.m. friday and found a 28-year-old man and the 61-year-old woman suffering from head injuries. both victims were transported to a hospital, where the man was treated and released. the woman, however, suffered serious traumatic injuries and did not survive, according to police.

following tonight... the 9-year-old girl who died after a violent hit-and-run crash in oakland has been identified. zayda monge was riding in a toyota corolla on tuesday night when and infinity s-u-v plowed into it. it happened on 35th avenue near paxton avenue in the fruitvale section of the city. two other young girls in the corolla were also injured. they are in stable they are in stable condition tonight. police are still looking for the driver of the s-u-v... who fled the scene. a 10-thousand dollar reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest. (grant) now an update on the family from southern california that went missing while traveling to their relative's home in san jose. today- the mendocino county sheriff's office says they've recovered debris and personal

items that belong to the thotta-pilly family. those items were found in the eel river. police say searchers found numerous items that would have been inside the car. the family of four was traveling from portland oregon to their home in santa clarita. they were supposed to make a stop in san jose at a family member's home.. but never arrived. (vicki) happening now-- police in richmond are investigating their third homicide this week. a shooting was reported just before 10 this morning at south 15th street and maine avenue. police say they found a 30-year-old man had been shot and killed when they arrived at the scene. investigators have not released any other information about the shooting. today's murder is the third in richmond this week-- after the city had none since last november. (vicki) also happening now... police are investigating two separate shootings on east bay freeways... just hours apart. the first happened in walnut creek at around 9:30 last night on interstate 6-80 near treat boulevard. the second shooting happened at

months after his arrest, prosecutors have filed multiple felony charges against reuben foster, allegeing that he violently assaulted his girl friend, who was left with a punctured ear drum. if convicted, foster faces up to eleven years in prison. 24-year-ld reuben foster had nothing to say as he entered thehall of justice this afternoon. once inside department 44, foster was solemn and attentive but entered no plea to charges of inflicting great bodily injury, forceflly attempting to prevent a crime and possession of an assault weapon, all felonies. foster was taken into custody on

february 11 after a domestc dispute with his girlfriend at a residence on shannon road in los gatos. she reportedly told police that foster dragged her by the hair, physically threw her out of the home and punched her seveal times. later, after searching his home, police found an assault rifle and a high capacity magazine,both of which are illigal to possess in california. prosecutor kevin smith says foster must be held accountable. kevinsmith/dep. district attorney "..we filed these charges to underscore how serious we take alldomestic violence cases in this county, the charges speak for themselves, when you batter someone and the you try to prevent someone from accessing the criminal justice system,

that is of concern to us..." the 49ers issued a statement saying "foster's place on the team is under great scrutiny and will depend on what is learned through the legal process." foster was also arrested in january in oklahoma for marijuana possesion andhad failed an nfl drug test last year. the judge issued a "no contact," order, instructing foster to stay away from his alleged victim. teammate richard the gallery but made no public comment. foster and his attorney josh bently also refused to take questions as they made of the courthouse following a hearing that lasted a little better than ten minutes. (rob live) foster will return to court on later this month toenter a formal plea. he is free tonight on $75,000 dollar bail. live in san jose rob fladeboe mron 4 news (vicki) new tonight at 5... tech giant google -- drawing push-back from advocacy groups in the south bay. google is planning a large development in downtown san jose that could bring more than 20-thousand jobs to the region. but as kron four's philippe djegal reports from mountain view... some community members fear the development will make living in san jose even more unaffordable. tech company's proposed campus in downtown san jose.maria noel fernandez/organizer- "we're here today to tell google, we need them to be good actors." maria noel fernandez is a campaign director for sillicon valley rising. the group that organized thursday's demonstration. she calls the proposed development a mega-campus... others call it google village.odile estrada/renter- "the rising of the rent is going to be a consequence of the large development." google confirms it has been buying parcels of land surrounding the diordon station since 20-16. the mixed-use development may include retail, residential and office space... and, could be as large as eight million square feet. fernandez and other community members are clear on what they want considered before construction.maria noel fernandez/organizer- "one is around housing, displacement and gentrification and actually making a plan around those areas. two around education. we need investment in our public education system and have outlined a series of steps we can take. three, public transit -- we need an investment in our public transit system." google spokesperson javier gonzalez attended the demonstration and says he hears the concerns. javier gonzalez/google- "we look forward to discussing these, uh, in the city live

(grant) the n-t-s-b and tesla are butting heads over the investigation into that deadly crash in mountain view last month. walter huang was using the auto-pilot feature on his model-x -- when he crashed into a barrier on highway 101. the car caught fire-- killing huang. the n-t-s-b announced today that it áremoved tesla from the investigation... after the company prematurely released information about the investigation. tesla said data showed the driver did not have his hands on the wheel as recommended...and received

(mabrisa rodriguez)overnight lows will generally range in the upper 30s to low 40s for most areas, which is about 2 to 6 degrees below normal for our nightly lows. tonight will be slightly cooler than last night and the coldest night through this upcoming weekend. high pressure will bring a gradual warming and drying trend to the region through saturday afternoon. temperatures will peak saturday afternoon, with highs in the upper 60s through upper 70s regionwide, or about 2 to 6 degrees above normal per location. this short term warming/drying trend will end on sunday as a low pressure system descends from the gulf of alaska to bring cooler temperatures, breezy winds, and a chance of rain. rainfall accumulations will range from 1/2" to 3/4" for the wettest spots, while most urban locations top out at around a 1/4" or less for sundays system. another system of similar strength will arrive late wednesday into thursday of next week. given that the normal monthly rainfall for april was already surpassed by the strong storm in the first week of the month, any additional accumulation will further push the region above its monthly normal rainfall, but will be unlikely to help close to gap for the seasonal

car break ins have been at epidemic levels in san francisco. there were 31-thousand reported auto burglaries...like the one you see in progress in this video. but today the city's mayor and police chief announced that so far this year, they are seeing a 17% drop of that particularly frustrating crime. kron4's maureen kelly reports city leaders are announcing new tactics to curb that crime trend even further. it's invasive...it's annoying....and seems to happen constantly.. so much that auto burglaries are top of mind to many city drivers.

tonight i'm going to taylor street and i'm like this is the middle of the tenderloin i don't know where i'm gonna park parking your car in san francisco should not be a game of roulette flanked by the police cheif the mayor says the recent dip in auto burglarlies...is good news. the crime down 17% from january to march from the same time in 2017....but still more needs to be done. the status quo is not ok on our streetsin addition to doubling foot patrols....and dedicating a unit to propery crimes the police department will be training 3 dozen more officers at all 10 precincts on how to dust for prints...which will go into their database and hopefully result in the arrest of more thieves. they are encouraging victims to get their cars fingerprinted ..and during this demonstration we learned that being a bit of slob when it comes to your car is a good thing. the ridges on the fingerprints will be revealed more if you have a dirty car if you have a smooth car there's gonna be no dirt to reveal the ridges the mayor also rolled out a new public awareness campaign....remi nding people to park smart. with the tag line if you love it don't leave it, they are putting the slogan on buses, on street signs....and even leafletting cars in car break in hot spots like here in fisherman's wharf to encourage people to not leave their valuables in their cars.. one

5:30... we are always tracking local stories. here's a look at what's happening in your neighborhood tonight. (grant) we'll start in the east bay-- where police are looking for an armed robber. it's happening in san ramon. police say they are looking for this man--who is suspected of robbing a credit union at gunpoint. it happened yesterday at the pacific service credit union on crow canyon place. it's not clear if the man was able to get away with any money. police believe he's also be responsible for several other bank robberies in the bay area. (grant) an east bay homeless encampment is being shut down. it's located near east sixth street in antioch. people who live in the neighborhood say the homeless can be loud at night... and sometimes will even start fires on the

property. others have mixed feelings about the city's decision to shut down the homeless community. the city posted a notice on the property today... giving people who live there until monday to leave. (vicki) in the south bay... a man killed in a crash in san jose has been identified. police say 20- year-old san jose resident jacob ayala was driving a stolen hyundai when he crashed yesterday morning. it happened on west carlos street on west carlos street near bird avenue. investigators say ayala somehow lost control on an overpass crossing guadalupe creek. two children were also injured in the crash. ayala death is the 16th traffic fatality on san jose city streets this year. (grant) a north bay family is mourning the loss of their daughter who was killed in a plane crash in scottsdale, arizona. 23 year old mariah coogan recently moved to los angeles to pursue modeling full time. she was a graduate of cardinal newman high school. on monday night ... she and five others left a golf

tournament in scottsdale and were headed to las vegas. the plane crashed soon after take off. five other people aboard the plane died in the crash. (vicki) on the peninsula... menlo park's city hall and police department are back open-- after an incident involving a suspicious substance today. police say a resident received the substance in the mail-- and they brought it to the police department. the department is located in the same building as city hall on laurel street. firefighters were called in to follow their hazardous material protocol. shortly later, investigators determined the substance was not harmful. police have not said what it was. mabrisa weather. new developments in the search for three kids after the family's s-u-v plunged off a cliff in mendocino county. phone records show that one of the mothers, sarah hart, texted a friend two days before the crash. she told her friend she was so sick she might have to go to a hospital. her fried called police when she hadn't heard from hart. hours later-- the family's s-u-v was found at the bottom of the cliff. police are still looking for three of the six adopted children. investigators have said they believe the crash was intentional. (grant) and tonight-- we are learning more about some of the kids -- before they were adopted by the harts. three were from houston living with an aunt. reporter nick natario spoke with the attorney who represented the aunt in a custody case. for houston attorney shonda jones, there's a case she's never let go.shonda jones: "i cannot understand why. it was like something in my soul that was telling me to hold on."a decade ago she represented a

houston woman who wanted to keep custody of her niece and nephews.natsshe lost, and the kids were given to a couple in minnesota. jones had no idea her file would come in handy a decade later. jones: "when i saw the names, and i had spoken to my client the day before, and she told me she remembered ciera, and i said, 'oh my god!' when i read the article, i said, 'that's them.'" devonte, jeremiah and ciera were adopted by sarah and jennifer hart.a couple weeks ago police found the couple's s-u-v off the california coast.authorities believe the couple plunged the vehicle off the cliff with their six kids inside.days after, an investigation into child abuse began -- allegations that have hit jones hard.jones: "i know my intentions were pure, and i know i wanted to do the right thing." but now she's left to wonder -- nats if she could have done more. natsa painful thought not just for her-- jones says her former client is struggling to make sense of this tragedy.jones: "i think she hears it, but she doesn't want to really believe it." jones never met the kids, but

school district say dennis alexander submitted his resignation on march 29. it will become effective when the school year ends. alexander, who is an administration of justice teacher at seaside high school was pointing a gun at the ceiling when the firearm discharged. no injuries were reported. officials say alexander remains on administrative leave. (grant) officials from the defense department and the national guard were on capitol hill today to talk about next year's budget...and the cost of keeping troops on the mexican border. kron4's brie jackson kron4's brie jackson reports on the ongoing deployment of thousands of troops that the president says are necessary until we build the border wall. with up to 4000 national guard troops pledged for border protection military officials now face budget questions from congress.general joseph l. lengyel/ national guard bureau: "we don't know yet what the total cost of his financial operation will be" officials says nearly 800 guard troops are already at the border but they don't know for how long. for now defense leaders want to use money from the national guard budget.

uber says it is tightening standards for its driver background checks. the ride-haling giant says it will now run checks every year. previously, there was no uniform policy on re-running criminal background checks on drivers. the company said earlier this year it started requiring driver screenings every two years in 20-17. some drivers have been accused of sexually harassing passengers. drivers applying to work for uber cannot have any convictions for felonies, violent crimes, or sex offenses. the company is also adding an emergency 9-1-1 button to the app - which would notify police of a passenger's location (grant) sears is looking to cash in on what is perhaps it's most valuable asset: real estate. the troubled retailer is partnering with online auction platform "real insight marketplace" to sell sixteen store properties. sears has faced sagging sales for years, but many of its stores sit on prime real
