(grant) breaking news tonight at five...former first lady barbara bush has died at the age of 92.(vicki)she was suffering from heart failure and c-o-p-d. earlier this week we learned mrs. bush was no longer seeking medical treatments except to relieve her symptoms. landing in philadelphia.(vicki) right now the flight recorder from the boeing 737 is at an n=t=s=b lab in washington. catherine heenan is here to tell us what we know tonight, catherine? (catherine) here's what the plane looked like after landing at philadelphia's airport.the 737's left engine is missing most of its cowling. it apparently came off while the plane was flying at more than 30=thousand feet.part of the debris apparently hit the fuselage right here. and over the wing, another piece hit the window. depressurizing the cabin and nearly sucking out the woman seated there. people were chased from their homes as fire swept through an apartment complex this morning in san jose. fifteen people were hurt.(map) the smokey, fast-moving blaze at the summer winds apartments on mc-laughlin went to 5-alarms before it was brought under control. got out fast but as the hallway in the three-story apartment buidling filled with smoke, many of their neighbirs on the 2nd and third floors were trapped. (vicki) in the north bay-- a mother is behind bars after a 16-year-old died of a possible drug overdose in petaluma. police were called to a home on vallejo street early yesterday morning. a witness says the mother, and another roomate, were seen trying to put the unconscious teenager inside a car. the teen was taken to the hospital where he later died. police say 34-year-old danielle foernsler and her friend, 39-year-old robert harrison were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and child endangerment. police say the suspects didn't call for help for the didn't call for help for the teen boy. foernsler told police that her son was in posession of xanax that contained fentanyl. (catherine) we already know you need lots of money, but you also need speed.... if you want to buy a san francisco home, you apparently have to act fast. another recent report affirms that homes in the san francisco-redwood city region are on the market for an average of 35 days before someone grabs them.. the national average is nearly double that -- 67 days. the report says there's a clear link between faster price gainsand faster sales. and of course all of this is fueled by limited supply. the national association of realtors also says that homes are also selling at an average of 64 percent over asking.

(vicki) neighbors in petaluma are up in arms about a developer's big mistake. dozens of native trees were recenly chopped down at the construction site of a new apartment community.(grant) problems is -- as kron four's philippe djegal reports... cutting the trees down is a violation of the city-approved project plan. (philippe) unexpectedly... jesus martinez and his family lost a bit of their privacy last tuesday... when their backyard view received an unwanted facelift, much to their chagrin.jesus martinez/neighbor- "wow, look at that place. it's like empty now." martinez lives on ponderosa drive on the eastside of petaluma. for the past year, a 150-unit apartment development has been under construction on the other side of his fence. the city-approved plans called for the native oak trees along the creek separating the homes and the development to stay up. but last week about two dozen trees were chopped down. jesus martinez/neighbor- "used to be a whole bunch of trees and now we got nothing. we got apartments right in front, and we can see everything, and they can see us from their." deputy planning manager for

facebook -- this time in the form of a lawsuit over facial recognition software that scans user photos and suggests tagging friends. the plaintiffs are a group of facebook users in illinois. they say facebook collects and stores users' biometric data as a part of a "face template" without prior notice or consent. a u-s district ruled that the claims are substantial enough to move forward in court. a facebook spokesperson said the case has no merit and the company is reviewing the ruling. it's the latest blow to the company amid growing concerns about privacy. it comes after the recent revelation that a data firm tied to the trump campaign

(pam) it was a frantic, life- threatening scene, as a 5- alarm fire raced through an apartment building this morning in san jose. 100 people were chased from their homes, many of them trapped for a time and ready to jump or climb down ropes as firefighters arrived to rescue them. (steve) a close call for folks on a hot air balloon in san diego. on sunday the pilot and 13 passengers were forced to make an emergency landing-- and there were a few bumpy moments before the balloon made it down. anthony pura has the story. "a near miss caught on camera...."before a hot-air balloon made an unplanned landing in the middle of a ranchos penasquitos neighborhood sunday, the balloon took out a glass fence at a house near 4s ranch. homeowner michael lomotan told us he saw the crash on his ring camera and couldn't believe it."the basket comes into view and the glass breaks; so basically the basket and the glass breaking and, 'whoa, what happened?!'" lotoman said, explaining his reaction.he said it was about a foot away from hitting his house.the balloon kept sailing over some mountains before making a landing. the pilot, ferrel gray, told 10news the winds shifted and he couldn't make the normal landing a few

(pam) first off -- a truck overturned in redding... spilling its cargo all over the side of the road.
