( james ) happening now... police in mountain view are looking for this 11-year-old girl. her name is diana flores-leiva. she was last seen yesterday morning at the intersection of el camino real and bay street. she is 5 feet - 5 inches tall with brown eyes. police say she was wearing a green sweatshirt with the word "pink" on it... blue jeans and black shoes. she was also carrying a black back pack. ( james ) happening today... a man who has spent almost a quarter century on death row... is set to be released. this after the state supreme court ruled the evidence to convict him was false. kron 4 's dan kerman has the story. 68 year old vicente benevides has spent 24 years on death row at san quentin and thursday he is expected to walk out the gates of the

prison, a free man.sot michael hersek / habeas corpus resource center 10-18of course we are elated for mr benevides, we think that was the right decision, we think that was the only decisionhis freedom comes after the state supreme court ruled his 1993 conviction for the sexual assault and murder of his girlfriend's 21 month old daughter was based on false evidence. soteveryone agrees now there was no sexual assault michael hersek is with the habeas corpus resource center which represented benevides. he says when medical experts re-reviewed all the evidence, from all the hospitals the child was taken to, they concluded injuries originally attributed to sexual assault, were due to medical procedures used to try and save her life. sotthis is another example of another significant error made at the trial that could have resulted in the execution of an innocent man.now the district attorney in kern county has chosen not to retry beenvides meaning his life on death row will come to end, but not the one most were expecting.standup dan kerman/san quentin 119-129the hearing to release benevides is now scheduled for sometime thursday afternoon, he could walk of the prison anytime after that hearing is complete. outside san quentin, dan kerman kron 4 news.news.

( james )east bay police are searching for a man wanted in a murder. richmond police say vernon dowell is the suspect in a deadly shooting last thursday. he is now wanted on a one million dollar warrant. police say the learned the victim got in an argument with the suspect before the shooting. but the reason why is not known. ( james )a northern california man is dead this morning after a skiing accident tuesday afternoon. placer county officials say jeffrey pearl- stein of kings beach at lake tahoe... lost control and crashed while skiing at alpine meadows ski resort. first

responders tried to resuscitate pearlstein but he died at the scene. authorities say pearlstein was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. the investigation is on going. ( james )an east bay cafe was robbed at gunpoint saturday night. it's the second time in recent months the rawr coffee bar in oakland has been hit.that night a man came in and threatened employees... before getting away with cash. last month ...someone smashed the window of a cat shelter next door... sending the animals running as the burglar walked past to the cafe. that time the thief did not get away with anything. the coffee cafe is attached to the cat town shelter. and the cat town shelter partners with the rawr coffee bar to let patrons play with kittens while having coffee. ( james ) a northern california prosecutor says it may be more than a year before her office decides if two police officers broke the law when they fatally shot 22- year-old stephon clark.a sacramento county district

attorney says that her office doesn't have the sacramento police report into last month's death of clark. she also says she doesn't have the official autopsy after a renowned pathologist hired by the family found that clark was shot seven times from behind. schubert says it may be months before she gets those reports, and months more before she decides if the officers committed a crime. ( james )a man is recovering this morning after being punched in the face. it happened after he offered to buy beer for the person standing in line with him at a convience store. this is surveillance video of the suspect. he's accused of punching the victim... and causing him to lose consciousness. sacramento county sheriffús say the victim was unconscious for about 8 minutes. deputies say the suspect also took money from the victim's wallet and left with another man. ( james )new details in the investigation of a southwest airline plane and it's exploded engine that killed a woman tuesday. philadelphia's medical examiner says jennifer riordan was killed when she was

partially blown out of the plane. the airline says she died of blunt impact trauma to her head, neck and torso. meanwhile a federal investigator says a crack on the interior of the jet engine is what led to the failure that shot debris at the plane. one of the 24 blades in the engine fractured from metal fatigue. the n-t-s-b chairman says he is very concerned about the failure. airport conducted emergency preparedness drills wednesday. the drills involved a simulated aircraft crash on the tarmac. it was coordinated with local state and federal agencies to practice response time and train together. santa rosa fire, cal fire, and the red cross all participated, among others. emergency personnel responded as they would in a real emergency -- including the use of sirens and firefighting equipment. volunteers were called on to act as victims. ( james )drivers in the north bay will soon get a bit of relief. on friday-- a new lane will open on the richmond-san rafael bridge. the shoulder in the eastbound direction will become a third traffic lane during peak traffic. the third lane will be open from 2:00 p-m until 7:00 p-m seven days a week. ( james )the santa cruz county sheriff's office held a community meeting last night after seeing an increase in gun violence. officials are discussing whether they'll add temporary license plate readers near soquel drive.

the problem -- is not a solution. they want to stabilize one side of the building to let the other side sink until it levels off. but as kron4's michelle kingston explains.. this plan could be more expensive than it was to build the actual tower ... and it could take áyears... before they know if it even works! ( james )the state of california and the trump adminstration... have come to an agreement to send national guard troops to the u-s mexico border. wednesday governor brown announced 400 national guard members will be mobilized to fight against gun and drug smugglers and human trafficking. this comes after a request from president trump. governor brown says the california national guard will not enforce immigration laws or participate in the construction of any new border barrier. ( james )san diego is the latest city to say to no to california's sanctuary state law. the vote is sparking passionate debate on both sides of the issue. the board of supervisors heard public testimony before voting to back president trump's lawsuit against california. in the end... one supervisor pointed to a stack of 800 emails fron san diegans who favored the lawsuit. versus just a few dozen in favor of sanctuary cities.

hand.late last year jaden heard about a man in romania who had lost his right arm below the elbow. the mans family had posted a request online hoping to find someone to build them a prostetic arm. looking for a challenge, jaden reached out to the family.sot he sent me the dimensions for the hand and i started figuring out how i was going to build it for him.ramos downloaded a blueprint for a generic prosthetic arm off the internet and began tweaking the design with 3d modeling software. soti would edit the base model so it would fit the man hand.the arm had to be the right size and strong enough to endure the wear and tear of daily use. the hand also needed to open and close for grasping objects. after 3 months of tinkering, this was the finished product. it features bendable joints with rubber bands and springs acting as tendons. jaden boxed it up and shipped it off to romania.sotand a couple weeks later he sent me pictures and videos of his dad using it.the man could grab a pot with the arm, drink a coke, sweep the floor. . .

we first told you about vicente figueroa's upcomning release yesterday morning. now we know a hearing is set for this afternoon. figueroa could leave san quentin anytime after that hearing. he was convicted in 19-93 of raping and killing his girlfriend's one-year-old daughter. the state supreme court threw out his conviction in march.... saying the medical evidence was proven false. yeah, well new prostethic arms can be very expensive but this young man made a functioning arm in his bedroom and he wants to make more.nats 15-year-old jaden ramos started tinkering with 3d printers when he was in 6th grade.soti like that you can design something and in a few hours hold it in your physical hand.late last year jaden heard about a man in romania who had lost his right arm below the elbow. the mans family had posted a request online hoping to find someone to build them a prostetic arm. looking for a challenge, jaden reached out to the family.sot he sent me the dimensions for the hand and i started figuring out how i was going to build it for him.ramos downloaded a blueprint for a generic prosthetic arm off the internet and began tweaking the design with 3d modeling software. soti would edit the base model so it would fit the man hand.the arm had to be the right size and strong enough to endure the wear and tear of daily use. the hand also needed to open and close for grasping objects. after 3 months of tinkering, this was the finished product. it features bendable joints with rubber bands and springs acting as tendons. jaden boxed it up and shipped it off to romania.sotand a couple weeks later he sent me

( darya ) an east bay cafe says two employees were robbed at gunpoint. the cat town shelter partners with the rawr coffee bar to let patrons play with kittens while having

( james ) representative jackie speier has introduced legislation to combat robocalls. the bill directs the federal communications commission to require phone companies provide free technology to block robocalls. speier said the national do not call registery has failed to protect customers from scammers. the act would require telcom companies to verify the accuracy of the caller i-d information. ( james ) crews with the san francisco department of public works began confiscating dockless scooters. stating it was for a flagrant disregard for the rules. yesterday

afternoon 24 scooters were seized after public works received complaints from residents saying the scooters were obstructing sidewalks. the confiscations come on the heels of the board of supervisors vote to require scooter share programs seek permits for their scooters. unpermitted scooters would be subject to confiscation but the ordinance would take about a week to go into effect. ( darya ) a sacramento prosecutor says it may be more than a year before her office decides if two police officers broke the law when they fatally shot an unarmed black man. a sacramento county district attorney says that her office doesn't have the police report into last month's death of stephon clark. she also says she doesn't have the official autopsy. it may be months before the d-a's office gets those reports... and months more before they decide if the officers committed a crime. eight baby ducklings are recovering after being rescued from a storm drain in san mateo. the peninsula humane society says the baby ducks were found trapped in mud at the bottom of a concrete drainage ditch... right off of highway 101 on the poplar avenue exit. a driver found the ducklings and called the humane society. the ducklings will be released back into the wild once they are older and self-sufficient. ( james ) a delta airlines jet made an emergency landing in atlanta after one of its engines caught on fire. the air-bus left atlanta last night... bound for heathrow airport in london. but it returned to the airport when the crew reported an engine problem. fire crews met the aircraft on the runway and extinguished flames on an engine. the plane was then towed into a gate and all the passengers got off safely. delta put passengers on another flight to london. no one was hurt... and the f-a-a is investigating. ( james ) the sonoma county airport is ready for an emergency. the airport took part in drills... involving a simulated aircraft crash on the tarmac. it was coordinated with local... state and federal agencies. emergency personnel responded as they would in a real emergency -- including the use of sirens and firefighting equipment. volunteers were called on to act as victims. the north bay... a marin teen has successfully built a prosethetic arm for a man in romania. the 15-year-old used his home computer and a 3-d printer.( james ) late last year jaden ramos heard about a man in romania who had lost his right arm below the elbow. the man's family had posted a request online hoping to find someone to build them a prosthetic arm. so jaden reached out to the family. francisco with more on this story.lydia? crews with the san francisco department of public works began confiscating dockless scooters. stating it was for a flagrant disregard for the rules. yesterday afternoon 24 scooters were seized after public works received complaints from residents saying the scooters were obstructing sidewalks. the confiscations come on the heels of the board of supervisors vote to require scooter share programs seek permits for their scooters. unpermitted scooters would be subject to confiscation but the ordinance would take about a week to go into effect.

we are elated for mr benevides, we think that was the right decision, we think that was the only decisionhis freedom comes after the state supreme court ruled his 1993 conviction for the sexual assault and murder of his girlfriend's 21 month old daughter was based on false evidence. soteveryone agrees now there was no sexual assault michael hersek is with the habeas corpus resource center which represented benevides. he says when medical experts re-reviewed all the evidence, from all the hospitals the child was taken to, they concluded injuries originally attributed to sexual assault, were due to medical procedures used to try and save her life. sotthis is another example of another significant error made at the trial that could have resulted in the execution of an innocent man.now the district attorney in kern county has chosen not to retry beenvides meaning his life on death row will come to end, but not the one most were expecting.standup dan kerman/san quentin 119-129the hearing to release benevides is now scheduled for sometime thursday afternoon, he could walk of the prison anytime after that hearing is complete. outside san quentin, dan kerman kron 4 news.

( darya ) this morning we're learning that a shooting threat was made against youtube... after a woman opened fire on the company's headquarters. san bruno police say that it was an online threat... and it warned of other shootings. investigators were able to track down the source. they say it was made by someone under 18 -- and was ánot a credible threat. no word yet on whether criminal charges will be filed.
