monday. cooler temperatures are expected by the middle of the week as a low pressure system develops over the eastern pacific. this low may bring showers to the region next weekend. next weekend. a big story we're following this morning. one woman was killed in a three alarm fire in san francisco's sunset district. it started last night and drove some people from their homes. kron 4's sara stinson is live at the scene with the latest. sara?

marty, the home here on 8th avenue is nearly burned down, you can see how charred it is behind me...sf firefighters worked for three hours to make sure nearby homes didn't burn down. and crews were mostly successful, there is signifigant damage to the immediate homes next door, but they are still standing.here is some cell phone video sent to us of the flames when the fire started before 10 last night.several buildings here evacuated as more than 100 firefighters were on scene battling the fire.crews contained the blaze before midnight and have been on fire watch ever since. the fire has destroyed one building, but had several units inside including 1806, 1808 and 1810. the s-f fire department does not have an exact number of people displaced. those who evacuated have since returned to here. the bay area red cross is assisting those who have been displaced. as you said we confirmed a woman died in firefighter was injured during the response.the cause is still being investigated. live in san francisco, sara stinson, kron 4 news.

for 29-year-old travis reinking of illinois. witnesses say he was wearing nothing but a jacket when he opened fire at a waffle house in antioch, tennessee early this morning. four people were killed and at least four were injured. witnesses say reinking took off the jacket when he fled into the nearby woods. ( marty ) in afghanistan, at least 57 people have been killed and 119 wounded in a suicide bombing at a voter registration center in kabul. that's according to the country's public health ministry. isis is claiming responsibility for the attack, but officials say the bombing is still under investigation. afghanistan's government is condemning the bombing, describing it as a terrorist attack. ( marty ) in berkeley... police are still looking for a suspect who sexually assaulted a teenage girl in broad day light.it happened thursday on the 1500 block of addison street. neighbors tell kron 4's hermela aregawi that

the neighborhood is normally very safe. berkeley police are looking for a man that brutally attacked a high-school aged girl.they say the victim was walking down addison street thursday morning - when a stranger grabbed her from behind, covered her mouth.. and raped her at gunpoint. yoshika ishii/berkeleywe heard like the guy with a gun, you know, it was 11 o'clock in the morning, it's not like at night or anything. and it was in the middle of a very safe neighborhood. just just so scary and so terriblesot lieutenant joe okies/berkeley police departmentthese crimes are unusual in berkeley and certainly ones that happen during the day time are very unusual, especially in residential neighborhoods, like the one where this took place people that have lived here for a long time - say it's almost unthinkable for something like this to happen in this neighborhood. and to their point saturday afternoon.. we found lots of people walking alone.. and children playing outside amongst themselves. residents say.. that's how it usually is. yoshika ishii/berkeleyit's a

( marty ) the f-a-a is demanding inspections on hundreds of airline engines. this, in hopes of preventing another accident in the air. camila bernal has more on this new requirement. the federal aviation administration is giving airlines 20 days to check c-f-m-56-7-b engines... the type of engine that failed and forced southwest airlines flight 13-80 to an emergency landing in philadelphia"all of a sudden the plane just dropped like i've never seen" the faa says 352 engines in the u.s. and 681 engines worldwide have to be checked by a certified mechanic-- all in hopes of preventing another

tragedy."i thought, we all thought, it was going down, this is it. in fact the first thing that i did was start praying"the new faa directive comes as investigators look into tuesday's southwest engine failure.it requires this type of engine, to be inspected after more than 30- thousand takeoffs and landings the engine manufacturer is also recommending that by the end of august, engines be inspected after going through 20-thousand takeoffs and landings.after the initial review, they recommend engines be checked every two years. are investigating two incidents at automaker tesla's factory in fremont. the center for investigative reporting uncovered a series of workplace injuries at tesla. the center said it was investigating an incident that resulted in a 30-year-old subcontractor breaking his jaw. tesla officials say the center incorrectly counted injuries that occurred away from the factory. the automaker says the reporting also relied on unspecified inaccurate information. ( marty ) a man battling parkinson's disease made the long journey from mexico to the bay area for another chance at life. kron 4's vickie liviakis caught up with him as he hopes for stem cell treatment. we first did a story one year ago - former contra costa sheriff deputy john clark and his family - desperate to reverse the ravages of parkinson's disease. he can barely speak and shakes when he walks. after

unsuccessful medical treatments for his progressing parkinson's, the clark family packed up and left their home in concord - for ensenada, mexico. there, john clark is undergoing alternative treatments. it's a long shot, but it may be the only shot they have one of the most promising treatments is stem cell therapy - creating cells to replace the brain's dopamine producing cells that have been lost to parkinson's. it's experimental. and john clark knows he's taking a risk. success is measured in micro-steps. they're documenting john's journey as he goes. one small step at a time. in the north bay... a marin teenager has successfully built a prosethetic arm for a man in romania. the 15-year-old developed it using his home computer and a 3-d printer. kron 4's charles the story. yeah, well new prostethic arms can be very expensive but this young man made a functioning arm in his bedroom and he

wants to make more.nats 15-year-old jaden ramos started tinkering with 3d printers when he was in 6th grade.soti like that you can design something and in a few hours hold it in your physical hand.late last year jaden heard about a man in romania who had lost his right arm below the elbow. the mans family had posted a request online hoping to find someone to build them a prostetic arm. looking for a challenge, jaden reached out to the family.sot he sent me the dimensions for the hand and i started figuring out how i was going to build it for him.ramos downloaded a blueprint for a generic prosthetic arm off the internet and began tweaking the design with 3d modeling software. soti would edit the base model so it would fit the man hand.the arm had to be the right size and strong enough to endure the wear and tear of daily use. the hand also needed to open and close for grasping objects. after 3 months of tinkering, this was the finished product. it features bendable joints with rubber bands and springs acting as tendons. jaden boxed it up and shipped it off to romania.sotand a couple weeks later he sent me pictures and videos of his dad using it.the man could grab a pot with the arm, drink a coke, sweep the floor. . . even pick up a bucket. jaden was thrilled.sotit was awesome. i was jumping up and

15-year-old jaden ramos started tinkering with 3d printers when he was in 6th grade.soti like that you can design something and in a few hours hold it in your physical hand.late last year jaden heard about a man in romania who had lost his right arm below the elbow. the mans family had posted a request online hoping to find someone to build them a prostetic arm. looking for a challenge, jaden reached out to the family.sot he sent me the dimensions for the hand and i started figuring out how i was going to build it for him.ramos downloaded a blueprint for a generic prosthetic arm off the internet and began tweaking the design with 3d modeling software. soti would edit the base model so it would fit the man hand.the arm had to be the right size and strong enough to endure the wear and tear of daily use. the hand also needed to open and close for grasping objects. after 3 months of tinkering, this was the finished product. it features bendable joints with rubber bands and springs acting as tendons. jaden boxed it up and shipped it off to romania.sotand a couple weeks later he sent me pictures and videos of his dad using it.the man could grab a pot with the arm, drink a coke, sweep the floor. . . even pick up a bucket. jaden was thrilled.sotit was awesome. i was jumping up and

( marty ) a big earthquake hitting the bay area again is a matter of when, not if. people who study quakes are looking at ways for emergency personal to better respond to a quake. this new digital seismograph is an accele-rometer... which measures ground motion accereration. it's part of a network of 70- such machines in the bay area that transmits the data it collects back to u-s-g-s. it gathers information minutes after an earthquake strikes and uploads it to the shakes map tool. the warmer or hotter the color... the stronger the shaking was felt. scientists say scientists say these instruments will help create a clearer picture of the seismic activity affect... the next time a big one hits. hours hold it in your physical hand.late last year jaden heard about a man in romania who had lost his right arm below the elbow. the mans family had posted a request online hoping to find someone to build them a prostetic arm. looking for a challenge, jaden reached out to the family.sot he sent me the dimensions for the hand and i started figuring out how i was going to build it for him.ramos downloaded a blueprint for a generic prosthetic arm off the internet and began tweaking the design with 3d modeling software. soti would edit the base model so it would fit the man hand.the arm had to be the right size and strong enough to endure the wear and tear of daily use. the hand also
