when an engine blew on a southwest flight. kron 4's hermela aregawi has more on the ongoing issue. 40 southwest flights cancelled nationwide sundaythe airline says so that it can get through engine inspections more quickly..southwest announced the accelerated program tuesday... after an engine fan blade on a boeing 737 blew.. killing a passenger. louise hauser jackson/passengeroh i feel the event was definitely tragic and tragic for the family and of course the woman who lost their life. on friday, the faa ordered the inspection of about 1-thousand plane engines across various airlines.. about 350 of which are in the u.s. but southwest says.. the latest cancellations for inspections are un-related to the faa's order. and passengers we talked to say.. they still feel safe to fly. . heath jackson/passengerit doesn't really affect the

(robin) new information regarding a three alarm fire in san francisco crews have confirmed that a woman was killed and more than a dozen people are now without a home. a community is mourning the loss of their neighbor, after the fire in san francisco's inner sunset on saturday night. kron 4's sarah stinson spoke with the woman's family. ("it's been quite emotional here at the scene of the fire on 8th avenue that took the life of a woman. i spoke to neighbors and family members who are just devastated they say she was an amazing,

attempting to contact a minor for sex and possession of child pornography. the 36 year old taught at glen cove elementary school. lund was busted last week in an undercover internet sting.he is on paid leave from the vallejo school district as the case plays out. (robin) police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a teen in berkeley. the girl was walking on addison street when a stranger grabbed her from behind.. covered her mouth.. and raped her at gunpoint. police say the attack was unusual because it happened in broad day light... and in a residental neighborhood. people living in the area told us they were shocked something like this happened. (robin) police say there are looking into surveillance video that may have caught the attack. for now they have additional officers partrolling the area. (robin) a man is behind

bars after being accused of robbing a store in san pablo. he was arrested after he allegedly took merchandise and pointed a gun at a store employee who confronted him. when police arrived at the store, they viewed surveillance video and recognized the man from prior contacts. police did not identify the man. they say he was captured minutes later and found with a pellet gun and drugs. (robin) the warriors came up short in their recent playoff game against the san antonio spurs. they had a chance to sweep them in the first round of playoffs ... but lost on sunday afternoon 103 to 90. kron4's michelle kingston was at ricky's in san leandro with some die hard fans to get their reaction to all the playoff excitement. (robin) a murder in modesto leaves three people dead... including two young children. now modesto police searching for answers. reporter ken mashinchi spoke to neighbors who were shocked to hear what happened. crime scene tape shut down rancho encantado court until about one sunday afternoon, and for many people in the neighborhood, it came as a complete shockjose estrella, has lived in neighborhood for 10 yearsdidn't hear a thing. i just found out about it a few minutes ago. i was on my way out to fill the tank of gas, have it ready for monday morning and i was surprised, i see all these news vans and everything that is going on here, like wow.modesto police say early sunday morning, they arrived at a home in the court and found three people dead. two of the victims were boys ages 6 and 4. police say they are still investigating what caused the deaths and say it was an isolated incident and the suspect involved is not outstandingalex chavez, has lived in neighborhood for 10 yearsit's very sad to hear,

(robin) that was ken mashinchi (robin) a car chase in california ended with police officers shooting a motorist. the reckless driver led police across county lines near sacramento. he intentionally rammed one patrol vehicle during the chase and drove on the wrong side of the road. forced the car to stop near a high school. then, they shot the driver. (robin) the driver was not killed and has been transported to a hospital. his condition is not known. (robin) in san mateo county. officials were forced to shut down the power

for two cities. it happened as firefighters worked to save two victims in a car that crashed into a pole. the incident happenedon sunday morning on camino al lago in atherton. when police arrived, they found a car pinned against a tree after bouncing off a power pole. live electrical wires were on the car...prompting officials to cut off the power in atherton and menlo park. over 34 hundred people were affected by the power outage.. both men were rescued and taken to the hospital...their conditions are unknown. (robin) in the east bay -- police are looking for the shooter ...in connection with a shooting in emeryville. it happened on saturday night ... near 45th street and adeline street. when police arrived...they found no one was injured ... however officers spotted two cars riddled with bullets. authorities believe the shooter sped off in a sliver honda. and they say the shooter is still on the lose. (robin) u-s-g-s is continuing to try and get a clearer picture of seismic activity here in earthquake country. kron4's maureen kelly was there.... as a digital seis-mo-graph was installed in a tiburon aparment building ... and it is meant to help monitor the earth's movements in that area. this geophyscist from usgs is getting ready to hook up a digital seismograph in a storage area of a tiburon apartment building.it's an accelerometer....which measures ground motion accereration.it's part of a network of 70- such machines in the bay area....installed in homes and schools....which

transmitts the data it collects back to usgs via the internet. here's a map showing all of the blue dots where these small gizmos are hooked up. they call it the net quakes network. the more instruments we have the better picture of the shaking we get (drillingit's being bolted to the ground here in the building managed by a cert volunteer here in tiburon.it will be the first netquake seismograph in this area.....the scientist installing this one says the information gathered helps their shakes map tool....which is generated minutes after an earthquake strikes....showing a contour map of ground motions....color coded...the warmer or hotter the color...the stronger the shaking was felt. the more instruments we have the better picture of the shaking we get and that data helps first responders know where to the tiburon cert volunteer says he's giving access for this device to help raise awareness about seismic activity here...and motivate other people to get prepared. if you look at our geological map the tiburon peninsula is cut by to faults we don't know how they're going to act so if there's a big shake over 7.0 coming we don't know which way is going to go these instruments will help create a clearer picture of the affect of seismic activity the next time a big one hits. maureen kelly kron4 news

(robin) a new report says there are thousands of buildings in the bay area that could crumble in an earthquake. the report says there are up to 3- thousand brittle concrete buildings in san francisco-- but the city doesn't have a list of where they are located. in oakland-- there are nearly two-thousand possibly vulnerable buildings at risk of collapse during an earthquake. right now-- there is no law to require them to be fixed. in san jose-- there are more than one- thousand apartment buildings thought to be (robin)happening now. police are looking for the shooter who killed a 20- year-old man and hurt five others in san francisco. the shooting happened just late friday night on 3rd and quesada avenue in the bayview district.one of the victims ... a 24-year-old has life- threatening injuries.the others, a 26 year old, a 23 year old, a 31 year old and a 19 year old have non-life

threatening injuries. police are investigating this case as a homicide. (robin) in the north bay ... sonoma county deputies have arrested 18- year-old anthony ibach. he is a person of interest in a deadly stabbing that happened saturday in sebastopol police found 19-year-old cory vaughn with stab wounds on bodega avenue.he died a short time later. several witnesses described a fight in the parking lot that followed a disturbance at a nearby house party. witnesses also told police that ibach fought with the victim in the lot and stabbed him during the altercation. (robin) on the peninsula ... the san mateo county coroner's office held its first missing persons day event over the weekend. officials interviewed and took dna samples from family members looking for loved ones. there are more than 500 missing and unidentified reports of missing people in san mateo county. some of those cases dating back to the 1950's.

route-91-strong group distributed some of the money the charity has collected. among those funds was an 11- thousand dollar donation from luca iclo-dean. he is a member of the hard rock hotel banquets team and was shot at the festival. co-workers raised 11-thousand dollars for him, but because of help from friends and family, he didn't need the money. instead, he donated it to route-91- strong to help others. the charity is organized by other survivors. (robin) a bay area artist brought a bit of nature to san francisco... in honor of earth day. there is now a public display of art on the steps of the grace cathedral. it was created by sukey bryan. the art work is a depiction of burney falls-- which is the shasta county waterfal. president theodore roosevelt once called the 8th wonder of the world. kron 4 spoke with the artist about the new display. saturday in sebastopol police found 19-year-old cory vaughn with stab wounds on bodega avenue.he died a short time later. several witnesses described a fight in the parking lot that followed a disturbance at a nearby house party. witnesses also told police that ibach fought with the victim in the lot and stabbed him during the altercation. ( darya ) antioch police made several arrests as part of a proactive encorcement focused on high crime areas and a d-u-i enforcement. 8 people were arrested friday night for d-u-i, drug charges, outstanding warrants, a weapons charge, and a stolen motorcycle arrest. 15 citations were given out during 31 traffic stops. officers are hopeful that these arrests and citations lead to a safer city. travis reinking. witnesses say he was nearly naked when he walked into the restaurant and started shooting. the shooting only stopped when a customer at the restaurant stepped in and disarmed the shooter. now we are learning more about reinking's past.( james ) reinking was arrested last year for trying to get into the white house. he told the secret service that he wanted to meet with president trump. reinking has a history of mental health issues including an incident in 2016 when he told a paramedic treating him that he thought taylor swift was harassing him. after a series of incidents with police... officers confiscated 4 guns from him. they gave those guns to his father... investigators say that the father gave them back to reinking and that one of those guns was used in the shooting.
