kingston, @mkingstonnewslaw enforcement say the suspect walked up to mangaccat's car and fired five or six shots right here on abbott avenue ... killing him with his girlfriend in the car.thandar seinsa, victim's girlfriend"he said honey, honey, somebody shoot me so i'm looking at him and he's breathing heavy so i'm so scared."thandar seinsa worked with the suspect -- 31 year old kevin prasad -- at san francisco international airport and said they used to be friends.seinsa"now i don't know him anymore"she told law enforcement the night of the shooting was also her last day of work -- and she was planning to move to las vegas with mangaccat and their daughter.prasad wanted to end their relationship. he was jealous and wanted to date her. steve wagstaffe, san mateo county district attorney"he knew she would be leaving and he really wanted a relationship with her so he had made the decision that if the boyfriend is out of the picture then he can come in to the grieving widow as it were and start a relationship that

way."prasad and the man police say was driving the getaway car -- 25 year old donovan rivera -- are both facing murder charges.and could face life in prison if convicted.in daly city, michelle kingston, kron 4 news ( robin )in santa clara county... authorities are warning the publict that " distraction burglars" are targeting the elderly. these burglars are posing as ultility company workers. the workers say they need to come inside elderly people's home to assess equipment and discuss bills. once inside... the suspects then steal multiple items right under the victim's noses. the suspects usually comminucate with each other using hand-held radios...as opposed to cell phones...to communicate with each other and avoid detection. ( robin )in the south bay... san jose police announced this week.... that they have arrested 16- people in connection with a series of robberies, carjackings and residential burglaries. kron 4's... charles

clifford... talked with a victim, who had more than 20-thousand- dollars worth of his belongings stolen. sunnyvale residents nick brown and tara residents nick sunnyvale sunnyvale residents nick brown and tara clark say that this past weekend someone ransacked the storage lockers at thier apartment complex. tara estimates that the thieves made off with thousands of dollars worth of items like tvs and bikes. the thieves also stole nick's prized collection of musical instruments.soti noticed my saxaphone, my flute my guitar, on monday ,the san jose police department announced that they had arrested 16 people. . 11 juveniles and 5 adults. . who had allegedly been working as a gang to commit car jackings, robberies and residential burglaries all across the south bay.sotthese crimes accord all over the city of san jose. there were also crimes that we arrested them for outside of the city of san jose and even santa clara county so they are very mobile. while they have no evidence

that the gang robbed their appartment complex, tara and nick wonder if the same group of people could be responsible for the thefts.sotwe had a bunch of units that were all broken into seemigly at the same time. we also had a lot of larger items that would have been hard to carry with just one or two people so that seemed pretty consistent. police are investigating these thefts but so far there's no indictation from law enforcement, in sunnyvale or san jose, that the same gang is to blame.nick and tara just hope that who ever did this will be brought to justice and that their possessions will be returnedsoti would like to get these items back for one i would also like to see the people responsible brought to justice.sotwe are hoping to get some kind of resolution and really just find the items. anyone with info should call the sunnyvale police department. in the south bay, charels clifford kron 4 news. around seven a-m while cleaning ámower equipmenát at áarrowhead vineyardá on napa road in sonoma... once at the scene...deputies discovered that the worker had ádied after becoming átrapped and ácrushed under a tiller attachment. it's believed he had been trying to áuntangle some wires from the tractor when the accident happened. ( robin )to the east bay... where berkeley police say, there has been another laptop robbery. it happened at 'cafe strada' on college avenue. investigators say, tuesday just before 1-in the afternoon... two males stole a laptop from someone inside. a witness detained one of the suspects. but was then assaulted by the second suspect. both then fled the area. cafe strada has been the target of thieves before. back in february, we told you about an undercover police sting... which nabbed six suspects. ( robin )homeowners who live near u-c berkeley are suing the university... claiming they're not doing enough to ensure newly accepted students

( robin )putting a stop to illegal sideshows has been a major challenge for bay area law enforcement. however, one east bay police department may have found the best way to cut off sideshows... before they ever hit the road. kron4's haaziq madyun has the story. stopping an illegal sideshow before it got started. that is what a joint east contra costa county law enforcement operation was able to do last saturday night here in antioch. antioch police sgt. rick smith explains how they were able to do itsot

of the van and walked toward officers. officers told the girls to get on the ground...and that's when the officer says he accidentally fired his weapon. one teen was hit near her eye by a bullet fragment. authorities are currently investigating that officer and the shooting. most at risk. kron four's philippe djegal reports from petaluma .... and explains how bad the situation has become. (philippe) as of monday, all uniformed petaluma police officers are carrying the anti-opiod medication narcan. it can reverse the effects of an overdose of heroin and other opiods including the synthetic drug fentanyl. kathleen stafford/ppad- "these are handcrafted pills that are being made on the streets and sold on the streets." in the past six months, police have responded to at least 21 overdose calls. in those cases -- four people died. one of them a 16-year-old boy who, last month, is believed to have been killed from takng xanax. his mother was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and child endangerment.kathleen stafford/ppad- "that's just a really sad case. um, but that xanax was laced with fentanyl and you know its lethal." kathleen stafford and her good friend heather elliott-hudson are trying to educate the community, especially young people, about the dangers of

prescription drug abuse. two years ago they founded the non-profit organization, petaluma parents against drugs. heather elliott-hudson/ppad- "it's the kids who typically aren't the ones that you would think would be the kids. it's the scholar, scholarship athletes. it's the a+ students. it's the popular kids, the middle kids. it's every kid out there." in the past two months... petaluma valley hospital says it has treated more prescription drug overdoses than it has in the previous five years.kathleen stafford/ppad- "i don't know that there's a solution, but i definitely think that we can cut down the overdoses that may come. i think it's just the tip of the iceberg, unfortunately." but now police are better equipped to handle the potentially deadly situation. in petaluma, philippe djegal, kron four news. ( robin ) we now know the name of the person shot and killed in albany sunday night. albany police found 23-year-old raphael fuentes-lee on masonic avenue, near the ohlone greenway. this is video from the scene.

he was taken to a hospital where he died. police arrested kayla gibson-wytch (wit) of berkeley and thomas shima-mura of oakland. both have been booked into the alameda county jail for murder. ( robin ) a napa man accused of exposing himself to children... is now facing child porn and molestation charges. we first told you about the arrest of ronald fryer last week. he's accused of masturbating near oran court... as kids walked past him on their way to school. after that arrest... police searched fryer's home. they say they found child pornography... and they say their investigation also led them to molestation victims. fryer is not a registered sex offender. ( robin )two oakland city council leaders want to file a lawsuit against the raiders and the nfl... over the team's plan to move to las vegas. city councilman noel gallo and councilwoman rebecca kaplan...say they want their fellow colleagues to support them in filing the suit. the raiders are still playing

in oakland...however they broke ground on a new stadium in las vegas last november...and plan to begin playing there in 20-20. the lawsuit claims that oakland's government and taxpayers have been taken advantage of... by paying for a nfl team... that plans to leave anyway. ( robin )in national news... governor jerry brown annouced california.... and 16 other states... are suing the trump administration. he says, the lawsuit is over its plans to scrap standards ... for how much of the greenhouse gases vehicles can emit. it takes aim at a plan by the environmental protection agency... to scrap standards for vehicles manufactured between 20-22 and 20-25. the standards would have required vehicles to get 36- miles per gallon by 20-25... that's about ten miles over the existing standard. epa administrator... scott pruitt says... the current standards are not appropriate and need

playing of violins that comes blaring out of speakers posted on the building housing a burger king on the corner of hyde and grove.....the owner of the franchise says the central market community benefit district asked his landlord for permission to pipe out the classical music as a way to deter a problem the sign posted in his windown did not...loitering and panhandling....which had been a big problem at this location....natssimilar sounds could be heard wafting outside the 7-11 on drumm street.the franchsie owner confirming to me by telephone that started this tactic three days ago as a way to address the same problem. another business owner on the same street says the homeless population who tend to hang out here can be a problem.they make a lot of mess on the sidewalk they bring a lot of garbage and sometimes a scream they scare children they scare women so it's really scary for people who are touristsregulars on

in the bay area that rival the bear creek redwoods open space preserve. as kron four's rob fladeboe reports... work has now begun to open that luscious land to the public. majestic redwoods, even a few old growth trees remain here in a corner of the santa cruz mountains along bear crek road across from lexington reservoir. ground was broken tuesday for the first of a three phases project, the first of which will open to the public next may. anna ruiz/general manager mid- peninsula open space district ".. it's over 14-hundred acres of open space land and starting off with over 6 miles of trails open to hiking and equestrian use and a 50 car parking lot to welcome our visitors..." aside from it's natural redwood-studded beauty, the bear creek redwoods open space preserve is rich in history. dating to the gold rush, this land has seen logging, country estates, horse stables and a jesuit school of theology.

from napa. sara... 57-year-old ronald fryer was first caught allegedly masturbating in public last week as children walked past him on their way to school. now police have new information leading them to believe he has been molesting children for decades. ronald fryer was first arrested and booked into napa county jail for indecent exposure. but soon after that - school resource officers and napa police worked together to serve a search warrant at fryer's home. police say that's when they found a signifigant amount of child pornography. investigators also found information that led to multipe victims of child molestation. however - he is not a registered sex offender. napa police are still trying to identify if there are more victims and are continuing to investigate this case. fryer has now been booked with additional

( darya ) police say a man who worked at s-f-o murdered the boyfriend of a co-worker because he wanted to date her. san mateo county prosecutors say 31-year-old kevin prasad spent months trying to persuade his co-worker, thandar seinsa, to dump her boyfriend and date him. police say prasad followed the couple home from the airport on april 25 and shot the boyfriend, 31- year-old mark mangaccat, several times. the d-a says it was the girlfriend's last day at work and prasad was upset he would never see her again: ( darya ) prasad

and the man police say was driving the getaway car -- 25 year old donovan rivera -- are both facing murder charges. the victim leaves behind a 3-year-old child. ( james ) sacramento county has released its autopsy report on the shooting death of stephon clark. and there are differences between this autopsy and the one done by a doctor who was hired by clark's family. the county coroner says clark was shot áseven times... not eight. the coroner's report also claims the independent autopsy mistook an exit wound for an entry wound. and the county claims clark was likely ánot shot primarily from behind. the county says clark was legally drunk and had traces of marijuana, cocaine and codeine in his system. stephon clark was fatally shot by police in march. police say clark was a burglary suspect who they áthought was holding a gun when they shot

( james ) we now know the name of the person shot and killed in albany sunday night. police found 23-year-old raphael fuentes-lee on masonic avenue, near the ohlone greenway. this is video from the scene where he died. police arrested kayla gibson-wytch of berkeley and thomas shima-mura of oakland. both have been booked into the alameda county jail for murder. ( james ) in morgan hill... a police officer is on leave after accidentally firing his weapon... injuring a teenage girl. police say they were responding to reports of a stolen van. after a short chase... two teen girls got out of the van and walked toward officers. they say they told the girls to get on the ground... and that's when the weapon was accidentally fired. one teen was hit by a bullet fragment. ( darya ) authorities in santa clara county say so- called "distraction burglars" are targeting the elderly. these burglars are posing as

( darya ) in the east bay... berkeley police say there has been another laptop robbery at "cafe strada." the cafe is on college avenue. investigators say two men stole a laptop from someone inside. a witness tried to stop one of the men... but was attacked by the second man. both thieves ran off. cafe strada has been targeted by thieves before. in february... police arrested 6 people during an undercover sting. ( darya ) a new domestic violence department is opening up at the alameda county superior court. curently, domestic violence hearings are divided between two departments. court officials say the new department will combine all domestic violence petitions into a single department. the new court is set to open june fourth at the hayward hall of justice. 16 other states are suing the trump administration over vehicle emissions. the e-p-a is rolling back clean car rules passed by the obama administration. the agency claims the previous rules are too aggressive and should be revised. those rules would have required vehicles to get 36-miles per gallon by 2025. now... california is leading the charge against the e-p-a. governor brown says a roll back will jeopardize our health. ( james ) daca is once again under attack. 7 states are suing to end the program. texas, alabama, arkansas, louisiana, nebraska, south carolina and west virginia are calling on the federal government to stop issuing and renewing daca permits. the daca program protects about 700-thousand immigrants brought to the u-s as children from being deported. just last week... a federal judge overruled the white house's efforts to end daca --- saying the government must accept new applications. as of monday, all uniformed petaluma police officers are carrying the anti-opiod medication narcan. it can reverse the effects of an overdose of heroin and other opiods including the synthetic drug fentanyl. kathleen stafford/ppad- "these are hand crafted pills that are being made on the streets and sold on the streets." in the past six months, police have responded to at least 21 overdose calls. in those cases -- four people died. one of them a 16-year-old boy who, last month, is believed to have been killed from takng xanax. his mother was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and child endangerment.kathleen stafford/ppad- "that's just a really sad case. um, but that xanax was laced with fentanyl and you know its lethal." kathleen stafford and her good friend heather elliott-hudson are trying to educate the community, especially young people, about the dangers of prescription drug abuse. two years ago they founded the non-profit organization, petaluma parents against drugs. heather elliott-hudson/ppad- "it's the kids who typically

( james ) a hero pilot -- who safely landed a southwest flight after a deadly engine failure -- has met with president trump. the president welcomed former navy fighter pilot tammy jo shults and other crew members and passengers to the oval office. a fan blade in the dallas- bound flight's left engine broke mid-air and shattered a window on april 17th after leaving new york's laguardia airport. one passenger ... was almost sucked out the window. three passengers rushed to help -- but the woman did not survive. president trump said their actions show the great character of our nation. ( james ) work is now underway on a new open space preserve in the santa cruz mountains. crews broke ground on the first phase of the three phase project yesterday in los gatos. the preserve will open next year to hikers and horses. eventually... you will be able to ride your bike from the los gatos creek trail to skyline bouevard. the publicly- owned preserve cost 25-million dollars and was paid for by a voter approved bond in 2014.
