identify... 'the zodiac killer'. but as kron 4's maureen kelly reports... a retired investigator who worked that case... has doubts that the same tactic will work. my parents are both gone now i know they would've like some closure along time ago that's the voice of melodie long, who's 16 year old sister betty lou jensen was murdered along with her boyfriend david faraday in 1968 while parked on a road in benecia....they were the zodiac killer's first victims.it's one of the bay area's most famous unsolved cases. he attacked seven people total....killing five. but claimed responsibility for more in taunting letters and cryptograms sent to local newspapers.now a vallejo detective says he's submitted two envelopes containing those letters for dna analysis. the goal: to get a genetic profile in order to narrow in on the killer using his family tree. it was that innovative methodology that resulted in the arrest joseph deangelo, the man police say is the golden state killer and the

east area rapist. i'm glad to hear that they're investigating, yes i didn't even think they had any dna but retired vallejo police leiutenent jim jacks who investigated the zodiac killings says that the dna collected might not be conclusive.the problem with the zodiac case is there is not a clean genetics sample that would. it was packaged correctly for the time but not the current standards. so a lot of the evidence we have has deterioratedbetty lou's sister still holds out hope that this may be the clue that finally leads to learning the truth about who killed her sister....even though she suspects the man responsible is already dead.results from the dna analysis is expected back in the next few weeks. maureen kelly kron4 news ( robin ) two tetra- tech employees are going to prison... that is after pleading 'guilty' to falsifying data in the hunters point cleanup effort. the u-s attorney's office made the announcement thursday evening. one employee admitted to telling employees .... to replace dirt from affected test areas, and 'swap it' with áclean dirt. he also

( robin )illegal dumping has been a problem all around the bay... including the south bay. and now business owners are invested in cameras to catch delinquent dumpers in the act. stanley roberts explains in today's edition of people behaving badly.
4:41 am
you are looking at night vision video of a landscaping truck in san jose in the process of dumping a load tree trimming in the street and this is not the first time it's just the first time its been caught on camera if you keep watching you can see the driver made sure his entire load of trimmings were completly dumped on the street in the daylight you can clearly see all the large pieces of cut up wood and tree trimmings that was left. we had multiple episodes of people coming by in the middle of the night and dumping off tree trimmings .this is michael hall president and ceo of mac cal based in san jose on lunction ave. it's been going on for about 6 months and it always seems to be on sunday night. now when you hear of tree trimmings you tend to think of leaves and branches, but in this case and for the cases in the past it's been an entire tree and listen to this it caught on fire, so the fire department came by on monday and then the city came by and picked it up thursday i believeand the problem is no

limited to mac cal because just a few blocks away i forun what appears to be another large pile illegally dumped debris nats ambiance ironically, this pile sits right outside of the recology office it contains everything from rolls of carpet to lawn scraps oh yes and a dishwasher in fact up and down rodgers ave which intersects with junction ave you can see evidence that this industrial section of san jose has a problem with illegal dumping if you're wondering why the other cases were not caught on camera listen to michael because we didn't have the cameras up. we added the camera's just to try to catch them because there is so much dumping going on sometimes it''s weeks before the city can get out here and actually pick it upnow look closely at the video you can see that the passenger was aware of the camera's so he turned his back during the event at it's believed that the truck is a new truck because there were no logos on the truck or visible markings mac cal has had issues where the trash was blocking their gates to enter the business so michael had to foot the bill in san jose
