( robin )five murders in five weeks. that is what richmond police are dealing with. just days before mother's day, a group of momsin richmond are speaking out... saying the violence needs to stop. kron 4's j.r. stone has the story. a group of three women praying after five people were killed in seperate cases in the last five weeks in the city of richmond. the latest coming this past sunday during a fight.sot it makes me sick to my stomach because a bullet doesn't know what it's going to do when it hits.that from yolanda ficklin-prothro who lost her son javonte, a 29 year old father of two, back in 2016. wednesday yolanda

was joined by shonna earls, who lost her son in 2015 and dewanda joseph who lost her nephew in 2010. the message to the murderers in these recent cases is quite simple. sot stop the killing so the mother's can start hearing...that's all i can say stop the killing. richmond's police tell me that out of the five recent cases...shooters or attackers have been identified in two. one arrest has been made. police are seeking another man and they believe the three other killings may involve gang motives. on the heal's of mother's day. these women say no mom should ever have to deal with a lost child. sot i'm always with my three sons on mother's day...it's just hard....it's just been hard him not being there.these women are hopeful that this

recent homicide trend does not continue. they also hope that the victim's familys in these recent cases get the help they need.sot it's not easy i have a lot of concern for my communities mental well being and emotional well beingsot the wound has not closed my wound is still open and i can't tell you if it will close. he's gone. i don't have a scab for that. ( robin ) in the east bay... students at san ramon valley high school in danville are honoring a classmate... who drowned on campus. ben curry was found tuesday in the school's swimming pool. hundreds attended a vigil for him last night... the football stands were packed with people. curry's friends are remembering him as kind and

funny. they also say he loved sports. ( robin ) how curry drowned is still under investigation... but a suicide prevention hotline was posted at his vigil. ( robin )also in the east bay.... fremont police are searching for a suspect in a violent robbery. it happened near alder avenue, near oak street on tuesday. that is where police say a man knocked a woman to the ground... then tried to rip her chain... from her neck. the suspect then managed to take the chain before running off. police are now reviewing surveillance video.. hoping to locate the suspect. ( robin )contra costa county is one of thirty california counties.... that filed a lawsuit against opioid manufactuerers and distributers. the lawsuit seeks reimbursement of taxpayer money... which has already been spent. this includes emergency response... prevention... monitoring and treatment... and for

prospective relief to help the county undo some of the widespread damage that it says... these drug manufacturers and distributors have caused. all 30 counties are filing suit in federal court... and expect their cases to be transferred to the multi-district litigation in ohio... where more than 500 public entities have filed similar suits. ( robin )this morning... a mother is thanking a couple... who intervened when someone allegedly tried to kidnap her daughter. it happened sunday afternoon in the parking lot of a market in north sacramento. the 9-year-old girl was able to escape from the car before asking for help. that's when the cota couple comforted the young girl and recorded a confrontation with the alleged kidnapper. cryssa cota says she knew the severity of the ordeal... having survived sex trafficking at just 14-years-old.

have to make sure she's okay. and i was so happy when i held onto her that she was okay.">( robin ) sacramento police arrested the young woman. the girl's mother says she was at work during the attempted kidnapping. she says she's very much involved in her daughter's life... and that she comes from a loving home. manny cota believes fate put them all together that ( robin )back here at home... students at santa rosa junior college are on edge... after a man was caught taking pictures of women in a campus bathroom. it happened tuesday night. two female students came forward about the man holding a cell phone underneath stalls. campus police responded and checked the area... but did not locate the man. the suspect is described as a bald white man -- in his twenties -- around five feet six inches tall -- he wasn't wearing shoes and was wearing striped tee shirt. ( robin )in the peninsula... a driver who hit several parked cars on monday afternoon... has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. it

happened on cherry avenue near commodore drive around noon. police say bradley jones of hayward appeared to have been drinking. jones was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. no other injuries were reported. ( robin )an a-c transit bus driver was áarrested for carrying a loaded weapon on a bus. we're told the man told his supervisor tuesday that he did not feel safe... and that he'd be bringing a gun to work. kron 4's michelle kingston has the story. people have reasonings for doing what they do but in this case, it's illegal and we cannot have bus drivers carrying loaded firearms on them."williams was carrying a loaded 9 mm handgun and was charged with a misdemeanor.we asked his union -- local 192 -- why he might've felt the need to carry a weapon.they tell us they're unsure and have been trying to contact him since the arrest.law enforcement say williams has no prior record and are also unaware of why williams felt he needed a gun while driving passengers on his bus.ray kelly, alameda county sheriff's office"this is an issue between ac transit union and their managment and it's not an issue we are interested in diving into. our job and our role is to protect the bus drivers and the bus patrons and we do that every day and obviously the issues at hand regarding employees and management is something they need to work out."we asked the

on tuesday looking for sharks when he found one, getting a little closer then he had planned.giancarlo thomae "....my glasses fell off and i leaned over too far and off i went..."the scene was captured from a helicopter. thomae says thatdark shadow is a great white shark, about the same size as his10 foot kayack. chris gularte/specialized helicopter "....this year they seem to be about one or two feet longer, they're obviously larger, there are more people in the water with the nicer weather so it's kind ofinteresting..."thought to be attracked to the area because of abundnt food, sharks are hard to see from the surface but from 500 feet overhead, there is no mistaking them. thomae showed me the jawbone of a shark he thinks is about the same size as the one he

was smimming with on tuesday. he does not think he was in any danger, however... giancarlo thomae "....these juvenile sharks that have been hanging around the ship are primarily fish eaters, in fact, they're teeth are designed for that, so they are not generally after big mammalian prey, so they are not going to come up and take a bite out of a boat that's as big as they are. but if you know there are sharks in the area i would not recommend you just go out and try to paddle with them..."rob fladeboe "....there are no shark warning signs posted here because this was not considered an official sighting and it didn't occur close enough to shore to put anyone at risk. in aptos rob fladeboe kron 4 news ( robin ) we're learning new information on what killed a 44-foot-gray whale... that washed ashore on angel island. the whale was found around one p-m firday afternoon. marine mammal officials say the whale's injuries are from significant blunt force trauma... that is consistent with being hit by a ship.

experts found many injuries on the left side of the whale and on it's skull. this is the third gray whale carcass the marine mammal center has responded to this year. ((sara))crews are on scene here in upper market near twin peaks.firefighters are making sure the fire is completely out and investigating the cause...while everyone who lives here is displaced...that 's about 30 or more people.one person is at the hospital now being evaluated for smoke inhalation.s-f fire responded just after two this morning. this is a four story building and the fire started on the penthouse floor.market street is closed for several blocks so avoid the area, it should be open within the next hour or so.families are waiting until crews are done to grab a few belongings, but no one will be able to sleep in the building over night.red cross is here assisting those who are displaced.i spoke to a man

( robin ) strong thoughts from the mayor of santa clara... after allegations of sexual misconduct by a councilman during his career as a teacher. kron 4's charles clifford has more on the disturbing charges. according to reports, a according to reports, a personnell file for city council member dominc caserta.. who is also a high school teacher. . was sent to the staff at santa clara unified school district on

monday. the file, which has since been removed, apparently showed that caserta has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct during his career as a teacher. several incidents allegedly involved innappropritate sexual behavior towards students.soti was quiet distrubed.the allegations have shocked santa clara mayor lisa gillmor. she has now asked the city attorney to provide options for dealing with problem and has scheduled a public meeting on the issue for next tuesday. sotto discuss these option we could take against council member caserta and also give him the opportunity to explain to the public and answer some of these allegations. if necessary we can take action such as asking him to resign. kron 4 reached out to council member caserta for comment, but we have not yet received a reponse.caserta, who is also running for a seat on the santa clara county board of supervisors, said in a statmentment on his campaign website that "i unequivoally deny these allegations. they are simply false and made up." he also claims that the release of old allegations could be a political move to

discredit him. saying that "with only 28 days left in my election, the timing of the public record's request that kicked off this whole mess is no mistake."on wednesday, the city of santa clara also sent out a press release asking that anyone who may have been a victim in this case or who has information about the allegations should contact police. the press release also notes that the police department is searhing their archives for any record of past allegations made against council member caserta.mayor gillmor says she has not spoken with caserta since these allegations came to light. she wants to give him a chance to defend himself but says the city can not tolerate sexual misconduct.soti'll wait to see what his comments are but on the face of it i would hope that he would resign and get himself some help. ( robin )a case involving the death of a four-year-old... ended in a hung jury for the second time in 11 years. investigators

now says 149 people in 29- states have gotten sick. it is unclear whether the new illnesses are still occuring... because there has been a lack of reporting... and the most recent illness began two weeks ago. at least 64 people have been hospitalized... including 17 people with kidney failure. in california, one person has died. they are everywhere... and riders are doing whatever they please... when ever they want. and that usually means... someone is behaving badly. kron 4's stanley roberts explains. in san francisco, many people take the saying. rules are meant to be broken to the extreme .if you say no drivers in the bike lane, there is a pretty good chance you will find drivers in the bike lane nats: ambiance if you post no skateboard on the sidewalk you will likely find skateboards on the sidewalk and then there are the scooters...yes the scooters just about every rule regarding the motorized scooters are being ignored nats: ambiance for example helmets are required however i was hard pressed to find one rider with a helmet..oh wait... i saw one rider with a helmet while i was driving but

( robin ) officials from the california's power grid released their annual summer assessment... and it does not look good. kron4's gabe slate explains. this is the command center of cal iso, in folsom california which monitors and facilitates the management of power lines throughout the state.the agency says get ready for a lot of flex alerts this summer. flex alerts are when cal iso asks the public to immediately conserve electricity. the quickest way to do that is to run the air conditioner less and run big appliances after 10pm. cal iso also says if the flex alerts don't work. rolling black

( robin ) it looks like solar panels won't be going away for any time soon. the california energy commission voted in favor of adopting new energy efficiency standards. those standards would require houses under construction starting january first 20-20... to include solar panels... to reduce energy costs. owners of new homes would face an additional up-front expense. the commission says, the panels would cost about 95-hundred dollars per home. some worry how the additional expense might affect low income buyers, and organizations such as habitat for humanity. here's something you don't see every day... take a look at this. right off the coast of southern california... surfer's caught this stunning phenomenon. it's a red
