area, at 2:06 a.m. on feb. 12, according to alameda county sheriff's sgt. ray kelly. cuesta was airlifted to eden medical center in castro valley but was pronounced dead later that morning. investigators believe cuesta was dumped from a vehicle and left for dead. she crawled on her stomach for about 100 yards before being found, kelly said. cuesta made a "very compelling dying declaration" that led investigators to gross and leonardo, according to kelly. authorities haven't disclosed a motive for cuesta's stabbing death. the charging document filed by the alameda county district attorney's office alleges that gross was the person who fatally stabbed cuesta. gross' attorney, alameda county assistant public defender eric mirzaian, said in a statement, "from the very beginning of this case, daniel has demonstrated that he is committed to accepting responsibility for his friend's death." mirzaian said, "he proved that when he confessed to the police, he proved it when he confessed to the media and he has proven it today by entering a guilty plea to these charges." mirzaian said, "it is daniel's hope that his decision today to accept responsibility and not drag out the court proceedings for years, will bring some measure of peace and closure to ms. cuesta's family and loved ones." the district attorney's office didn't respond to multiple requests for comment on the case today. for comment on multiple

( robin )here at home... the golden state has not seen a volcanic eruption in more than a century. but geologists say... it could happen again. kron 4's charles clifford spoke with an expert at the u-s-g-s... and has the details. believe it or not, a volcanic eruption like the one in hawaii could happen here in california.sotcalifronia is not only earthquake country, it's volcano country too.dr. margaret mangan runs the california volcano observatory at the us geologival survey.

she says that while there is not currently an active volcano in california, another eruption is inevitable.soti would say that, yes, it will happen here.maybe not in our lifetimes.across california there are 7 volcanoes with the potential to erupt.the medicine lake volcano in modoc county, mt shasta to the west, lassen volcanic national park. . which errupted about 100 years ago. . the long valley volcanic region near mamoth lakes, the coso volcanic fields in eastern california and the salton buttes near the mexican border. the closest volcanic activity to the bay area is the clear lake volcanic field in sonoma and lake counties. dr. mangan says the usgs monitors these 7 sites and that at least some of them have the potential to erupt, just like the hawaiian volcanoe. . or possibly even worse.sotsome have that style of volcanism in their erruptive history. but we also have the potential for explosive eruptions like the mount saint helens eruption that most people remember.and while no one knows when the next erruption will happen in california, the u-s-g-s says that californians should be aware of the dangers, just as they are aware of the danger of earthquakes.sotwe are aware and prepared for that type of hazard but we also have to be prepared for volcano hazards.
