meteorologist lawrence karnow. windy conditions expected all over the bay area tonight. lawrence karnow: it was a beautiful day all the way to the coast but tonight the winds are going to howl. a high wind advisory has been posted over the north, east and south bay mountains. some gusts could be as high as 55 mph. it will be windy at times in the valleys too with some gusts over 30 mph. the offshore winds will keep skies mostly clear with mild temperatures. a few showers continue to pop up over the sierra and will continue to do so this weekend. on the satellite image you can see the area of low pressure now east of california and high pressure building toward the coast. the difference between the two will make for a gusty night tonight. saturday will be another warm day with highs in the 70s and 80s inland, 70s around the bay and 60s near the coast. it will be a little cooler on mother's day with patchy coastal fog. there's a slight chance of toward the middle of next week.

park is closed. last saturday was the result of noxious gases being emitted from the volcano. this time, it is the fear that this vent behind me will have a massive steam explosion. the last time something like that happened was all the way back in 1924. the reason is, the lava lake inside which just a week ago before the present eruptions started, was all the way to the top raising over the edges. well since then it has lowered about 1,000 ft. the concern is, once that hot magma comes in contact with the cold ground water that's underneath, there is going to be a massive steam explosion. not a volcanic eruption, but an explosion that could shoot debris, rocks, and ash up into the sky. again when this happened 94 years ago.. boulders the size of cars came out. they don't expect that but it could be marble or pea sized pebbles .. and ash.. and for that reason they have evacuated everyone from the national park and it is closed until further notice. again the concern is that this is gonna blow. the question is when. scientists of course . .they know it's nature so there is no saying when some big dramatic event might happen .. but the science tells them that something will. whether it be today, tomorrow, or the days to come. and as a result, this park remains off limits. reporting from just outside hvo, i'm howard dashefsky. we send it back to you.

second and third choice of candidates - then the first place votes are tallied. a winner is declared if a candidate gets a majority of first place votes: 50 percent plus one vote. if no candidate gets the majority then an elimination process beings. here is how it works. the candidate with the fewest first choice votes is eliminated from the race. then - voters who chose the eliminated candidate will have their first place vote transferred to their second choice candidate. and the votes are recounted. if someone gets more than 50 percent of the vote they are declared the winner. if not the process starts all over again.
