(robin) technology is helping parents keep track of their children.. whether they like it or not. as reporter jack royer tells us.. with a few clicks on your cell phone you can discover not only where your kids are but what they are doing. parents with children of a certain age have likely heard or them or used them- tracking apps, that keep tabs on your kids ever move. apps like life360 show you every detail...down to the speed your child is driving, and where they've been going. "18:45 when they got their first phone it was either 7th or 8th grade." craig martin uses the app to track his 4 teenage daughters. the youngest 12, the oldest 18.

"i prefer an approach where you make it absolutely clear to the young person what you're doing. if you're going to carry around something like a cell phone, i need to be able to know how you're using it and make sure you're using it responsibly and that's reasonable contract to enter into with kids." for 15 year old morgan madden, life looks a lot different now thanks to tracking apps. she's following her passion - she says - all because her parents snuck the tracking app on her phone. 1:23-1:30 morgan madden/parent s use tracking app "15:15 i was like what the hell, like why are you doing this. why can't you trust me you know?" she says she was hanging out with people her parents thought might get her into trouble and admits lying to

her parents often about where she was. but an iphone app called "find my friends" got her out of trouble. her parents where able to find her, and go to her exact location- when she needed it the most 15:46 i'm really grateful for that app.." morgan's mom, joye, hopes other parents will consider the right- and wrong ways- to track their kids. "i think the best way to do it is to sit down and have a conversation and that way they don't feel like they are being followed. we ended up having an agreement and a contract that if she removed it from her phone then she lost her phone."free apps like "find my friends" just show you the current location of your child's phone. but others...like life 360...provide incredible detail. history of where your teenager has driven, how fast they drove to get their- even how much battery is remaining on their phone. in society today you don't know what's going to happen. it's sort of a mental and emotional security blanket for us. and a reality of modern parenting. 20:14 "we'll never get to the point where teenagers are going to tell their parents everything they're doing. and we shouldn't be there. ---- technology should not be a substitute for the hard work of being a good parent in the
