from the pacifica police department tonight... terisa? (terisa estacio reporting) it was around 11am when pacifica police sprang into action.. responding to terra nova high school that a student had reported seeing a threatening message. (take vo)some parents went to the high school after receiving a text alert about the situation. police say, specifically, the message posted on a social media site said there would be a shooting that would occur at terra nova high school at noon on may 18. school officials say they followed a strict protocol for these type of potentially dangerous situations. they contacted authorities and informed parents. i spoke with the superintendent of the school district about the threat, the response and a very upset parent. terry deloria, superintendent, jefferson union high school district. we did several steps. we were concerned for everyone's safety. we contacted law enforcement, they put us into school campus mode. not able to say it was a real threat so they advised

(vicki) breaking news we are following tonight-- the man arrested for a crash that killed three people in fremont-- is being released from jail. 21-year old dang tran was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of marijuana on tuesday... when he is accused of causing a five-car crash. today the alameda district attorney's office said they are not yet filing charges. they say additional investigation and information is needed. police say tran was reportedly speeding and driving recklessly right before colliding with a cadillac escalade. the people who died... 39-year-old noelle johnson...and her boyfriend's girls...14-year- old christy limas and 9 year old brook limas. police say they were ejected from the car-- and investigators say it appears they weren't wearing seatbelts. again-- the d- a's office has not yet decided if charges will be filed. we will have much more on this story coming up on kron4 news at six. news tonight-- a commercial airliner carrying 110 people.. has crashed in cuba. it happened just after takeoff from havana. tonight we know there are at least three survivors from air cubana flight 972. you can see the smoke from the crash. the boeing 737 went down just after takeoff... it was supposed to be a short flight within that country. we have new video from the scene of the crash.. firefighters rushed to put out the flames... according to reports the according to reports the jet veered sharply to the right just after take off. it was raining at the time - but winds were relatively calm. the plane was built in 1979... an investigation is underway into what caused the crash. (rob live) details emerging from the sheriff's office this afternoonpaint a picture of a chaotic scene where a suspect slipped her handcuffs, got behind the wheel of a patrol car and thenallegedly ran down a deputy before she was shot by anotherdeputy. a pair of patrol cars, one with it's windows shot out, mark the spot where the shooting occurred here at the end of the ocean street extension in santa cruz. just after 3:30 this morning, deputies had detained a man and woman who were loading something into a suspected stolen vehicle. the suspects were handcuffed and placed in the back seat of separate patrol cars says sheriff jim hart. jim hart/santa cruz sheriff "....while the deputies were interviewing the man, the woman slipped the handcuffs, reached out the partially open window and opened the door. she then goes into the drivers seat and without warning drove the patrol car at at one deputy, striking him and damaging both patrol cars...."the sheriff describes a scene where the two deputies, one of whom is now injured, are fearing for their lives as the woman, instead of fleeing the scene, is coming after them again,

driving back and forth at the deputies before she was shot. jim hart/santa cruz sheriff ".....the deputy who had not been injured by the vehicle fired multiple times at the woman to stop the assault. she was hit three times in the chest and the stomach..." the woman survived, was life-flighted to an un-named hospital and underwent surgery. her condition is unknown. the deputy was treated and released. the sheriff offered no details about how the woman slipped her cuffs or whether the deputies failed to properly secure her in the patrol car. the shooting occurred in an area where the sheriff's office has received numerous complaints about drug use and other illegal activity. just no telling when kilauea's volcanic activity will subside. janine krippner of concord university in west virginia says much of what is happening is below the earth's surface on hawaii's big island, making it tough for experts to say for certain.charles mandeville of the u.s. geological survey's volcano hazards program says kilauea has produced similar eruptions several times in the past 2,000 years.ash coming out of the volcano's summit can be a nuisance for area residents, though people are unlikely to be at risk as the park surrounding kilauea has been closed and evacuated. mandeville says a larger hazard is lava flowing and hot, toxic gases coming out of open fissure vents in the middle of housing and infrastructure.hawaii authorities are handing out masks to protect people from ash as residents brace for an explosive eruption at the summit of kilauea volcano.one such eruption occurred thursday. but most people found only thin coatings of ash, if they saw any at all. winds blew much of the 30,000-foot (9,100-meter) plume away from people.joe laceby of the town of volcano says the ash felt like sand at the beach. he says it was a bit of an irritant but not too bad.laceby sealed windows and cracks in his home with cellophane wrap to keep out ash and volcanic gases. he has gas masks to protect himself from the toxic fumes and ash. the explosion at kilauea's summit came shortly after 4

tonight we are learning more about the 17 year old student charged in the latest school shooting.( grant) the suspect is in custody ... but the ordeal is not over tonight for the small town of santa fe, outside houston, texas.( vicki) police say the shooter also left a number of explosive devices near the school. catherine heenan is here with the latest.catherine? (catherine) police spent the day at the home of the suspected killer.. unlike many other school shooters, dimitri pah- gore-cheeze gave few warning signs. "he was really quiet and wore like a trench coat almost everyday." ethe 17 year old's facebook page shows what seems to be a normal teenager.pagourtzis says he started attending santa fe high school three years ago.he posted pictures of himself, showing what appears to be an ordinary high school student. dustin severin / student: the kid that did it, i've talked to him before. he just snapped, he didn't seem like he would ever do that. he doesn't really talk to very many people either, he keeps to himself.investigators say his private journal tells

(grant) police are investigating a series of robberies targeting women in fremont. in each case... the victim was wearing a gold chain. of the six robberies... police believe two are related. both of those happened near elementary schools. investigators are releasing these photographs from the may 8th robbery. a man attacked a woman and pulled her to the ground. she suffered scratches and bruises from that attack. (vicki) embattled santa clara county judge aaron persky says he has no regrets and would handle the brock turner case the same way today. persky faces a recall election next month after sentencing the former stanford university swimmer to six months in jail for sexual assault. persky argues the recall campaign is unfair and threatens judicial independence. recall proponents say persky should be held accountable for not

deputya pair of patrol cars, one with it's windows shot out, mark the spot where the shooting occurred here at the end of the ocean street extension in santa cruz. just after 3:30 this morning, deputies had detained a man and woman who were loading something into a suspected stolen vehicle. the suspects were handcuffed and placed in the back seat of separate patrol cars says sheriff jim hart. jim hart/santa cruz sheriff "....while the deputies were interviewing the man, the woman slipped the handcuffs, reached out the partially open window and opened the door. she then goes into the drivers seat and without warning drove the patrol car at at one deputy, striking him and damaging both patrol cars...."the sheriff describes a scene where the two deputies, one of whom is now injured, are fearing for their lives as the woman, instead of fleeing the scene, is coming after them again, driving back and forth at the deputies before she was shot. jim hart/santa cruz sheriff ".....the deputy who had not been injured by the vehicle fired multiple times at the woman to stop the assault. she was hit three times in the chest and the stomach..." the woman survived, was life-flighted to an un-named hospital and underwent surgery. her condition is unknown. the deputy was treated and released. the sheriff offered no details about how the woman slipped her cuffs or whether the deputies failed to properly secure her in the patrol car. the shooting occurred in an area where the sheriff's office has received numerous

looking into what killed a whale that was found near jack london square in oakland.
