dead and another seriously injured after they were attacked by a mountain lion while ábiking in washington state... although that attack happened in the pacific northwest... such an attack here in the bay area is possible... kron4's charles clifford talked to hikers about being prepared for these encounters. well, mountain lion sightings well, mountain lion sightings area actually pretty common around the bay area, especially here in san mateo county and attacks on people are very rare, but not unheard of.the last time a bay area mountain lion is known to have attacked someone was in 2014. in that case, an aggressive mountain lion injured a 6-year-old boy in cupertino. the boy survived but the mountain lion was killed a few days later by the california department of fish and wildlife.but that was an exception. in almost all cases, mountain lions shy away from people. for example, late last year, this mountain lion was spotted roaming through densly populated san francisco but no one was injured. eventually the animal was captured in the diamond heights neighorhood then and released in a remote location along the pennissula.
4:22 am
soti've never encounted any mountain lions i've never seen one.in san mateo county monday afternoon, hikers in the santa cruz mountains said they were shocked by what happened in washington state this past weekend. signs on all trails here warn of mountain lions and everyone we talked to said it was something they are aware of.sot it's always in the back of my head and i'm always vigiliant about my surroundings when i'm out and about on the trail.sot sometimes when i'm alone or have my dog with me, i'm totally aware of my surroundings (robin) still ahead on the kron four morning news... a sneak peak on the movie about the unsolved murder of rapper 'biggie smalls'. we'll have this and more ... coming up in the hollywood minute. (robin) the bay area's big city mayors are teaming up to support a measure on the june ballot. that measure will raise bridge tolls to pay for transportation projects .. which are designed to ease congestion and expand public transit. kron 4's dan kerman has more on what this will mean for commuters. sot libby schaaf/mayor of oakland 00-08as commuters here in the bay area we are tired
4:33 am
of being jammed up and delayed and kept from our families while stuck on bay area roads oakland mayor libby schaaf is speaking for many commuters fed up with the gridlock. monday she joined san francisco mayor mar farrell and san jose mayor sam licardo to promote what they believe is the solution regional measure 3, which residents in the 9 county bay area will vote on in june.sot sam liccardo/mayor of san jose 30- 38rm 3 will funds for traffic projects that have shovels ready to hit the ground. like bart to san jose and santa clara.in addition to the bart extension and 300 additional bart cars, measure 3 will also expand ferry service on the bay, complete the expansion of highway 101 along the novato narrows, and improve a variety of highway interchanges. but it's not without costssot jim wunderman/bay area council 55-103it helps every single county and if we could get it for free it would be great, i think everything should be for free, but life is not for free.
4:34 am
jim wunderman represents the bay area council, the measure's primary sponsor. he says to generate the 4 and half billion dollars to pay for the improvements, tolls on all the bay areas bridges except the golden gate will increase a total of $3 over the next 7 years.it's not like we want to raise tolls or ask people for more money but the reality of the situation is if we want to keep the bay area moving and have people live a better life this is the opportunity to do that and we have (robin) san francisco police are investigating three separate shootings..that left four people injured... the first shooting happened friday night...near market and larkin streets. a 40-year-old man shot and taken to the hospital for minor injuries. on saturday morning... shots were

fired on capp street in the mission. a 29-year-old and 25-year-old man were shot and taken to the hospital for minor injuries. the latest shooting happened saturday night on revere avenue in the bayview. a 15-year-old boy was injured...but is expected to recover. no arrests have been made. (robin) bart is considering sealing off a hallway inside its civic center station that's become notorious for drug activity. kron4's maureen kelly gives us a first hand look at the problem. videos posted on youtube showed one long hallway connecting parts of the civic center concourse level being used as a shooting gallery. some openly injecting drugs....others slumped over. last week at meeting with the san francisco mayor and the heads of both muni and bart an idea was floated to close this section off. it's long enough that someone can stand in the middle and watch out for law enforcement coming from either end.watch the man in the plaid pajama bottoms walk into the hallway....looks around,
4:36 am
turns his back as three bart officers approach from the other end. he lights up a substance, inhaling thru a small tube....exhales and walks away....he was able to leave the hallway just as the officers were entering from the other side. bart says closing the area won't impact commuters since there are entrances to both bart and muni at either end of the hallway.(standup)the next step in moving this idea closer to reality, the bart gm needs to reach out to the state fire marshall to make sure the isn't a public safety concern with shutting this walkway down.some riders say it could be an inconvience....bart board member bevan dufty says the closure could be for a short time...or longer...but they need to get a handle on this situation. i think it's a state of emergency and so we have to put everything on the table and clothes in this hallway would be one of them bart says they are tackling this problem from many directions. they've recently announced joining forces with sfpd to patrol the station. what we are talking about if not just two officers walking shoulder to shoulder just having more people available
4:37 am
to patrol this area.that's already underway but monday a member of bart pd's top brass met with his counterpoint at sfpd to talk about the logistics of significantly boosting those patrols.maureen kelly kron4 news. coming upso i know one is orange juice and vodka but what's that one, this is just vodka booze in ziplock bags were just the tip of the iceberg a really small tip i'll explain in the next edition of people behaving badly (robin) and here's a live look outside... at the embarcadero.
