(grant) more breaking news we are following tonight-- a plane at s- f-o hits a concrete post. this is a live look from s-f-o tonight. airport officials say the aer lingus flight from dublin, ireland was being towed to a gate at the international terminal when the right wingtip hit the concrete post. passengers were on board but nobody was injured. (vicki) a big story we are following tonight-- tesla says autopilot was not engaged when a danville man drove into a castro valley pond earlier this week-- and died. in a statement today-- tesla says they were able to recover enough data from the car to confirm that the self-driving feature was not turned on at the time of the accident. the crash happened late sunday night on crow canyon road between castro valley and san ramon. 34-year-old keith leung was identified as the driver who died in the crash.

investigators are still determining the cause-- but say speed may have been a factor. (grant) in the east bay, a bart station agent is furious - after she captured a picture that she says shows two people using drugs in a bart elevator. riders are also speaking up, saying they see needles at many stations. kron four's terisa estacio reports. his is the image captured by a bart employee taken at the concord bart station the agent saying she found these two using drugs inside an elevator in the parking structure at bart. it was early in the morning around 4:30 just before the station opened. this picture curtesy of claycord dot com. the agent goes on to say that she is frustrated that this is going on and that bart is failing by not providing enough security or tackling this issue. alecia troust/bart spokesperson. we are certainly concerned. this is the not the first time - bart has been contacted about a drug problem these are images from the civic center in san francisco. troust. we are working with our partners. george perez: the needles are everywhere, i am fearful. bart riders say they are quite concerned and feel bart needs

with the legalization of adult recreational marijuana there is a growing concern about the impact it's having on adolscents. kron4's maureen kelly spoke with a psychologist and addiction specialist who is concerned about the long term mental health impact on kids ingesting pot with supercharged levels of thc. the majority of them are using cannabis at a variety of levels but the majority of them are using cannabisdr chanda rankin is the chief clinical officer at a teen rehabilation center in the north bay . her biggest concern is that there are a lot of pot strains out there is being cultivated with much higher levels of t-h-c, the psychoactive element in the plant that gets users high. the levels of thc in cannabis today even compare to cannabis 510 years ago and massively different then the thc levels that people were smoking in the 70s and 80s. she says those elevated levels can have very serious consequences... they're taking ingesting so

much more but they're getting sick they're getting nauseous they end up having psychosis or hallucinations they end up in the er they end up in the er in emergency are there passed out from primarily from cannabis maybe some other substances are mixed in there but the problem is that the thc levels are so high there causing the kids to get ill sometimes leaving them to bomb it you can choke on your own vomit the danger is real she says chronic heavy use can have a negitive impact on a teen's developing brain.if you have a predisposition to a mental health issue and you have that much thc in your system it's a very high possibility that you can open the door to a significant mental health problem that may not have been opened at that juncture or if ever but you increase the likelihood of experiencing significant anxiety significant depression later on in life if you have used a fair amount of cannabis as an adolescent so. so in some cases the risk is immediate and the dangers immediate and another case is the risk and danger may come for the down the road further down the roadshe says we don't have enough data to know what the long term consequence of all of this adolescent cannabis use will be....but she expects we have not seen

(grant) uber is uber is announcing a new safety policy....(vicki) the san francisco-based ride hailing service wants to encourage you to buckle up... catherine heenan is here with the details.. (catherine) uber can't 'make' you buckle up... but will begin reminding riders to wear seat belts.. that goes for whether you're in the front or back seat. uber will use its app to ask drivers to pause after picking up passengers....to allow them time to buckle up before proceeding. it's pretty subtle - but the company wanted a way to give a

nudgeabout using seat belts without being intrusive. it's another example of how the company's new chief executive is trying to revamp uber's image -- including a focus on safety. u.s. studies show that people who are driving or in the front seat are pretty good about using seatbelts. but not so much for the back seat. a 2017 survey found that four out of five adults don't always buckleup when in a taxi or using a ride-hailing service. grant and vicki? (vicki) uber is ending it's self-driving car operation in arizona. this comes months after one of their cars struck and killed a woman. today the ride sharing company told 300 workers their positions would be terminated. in march a 49-year-old woman was hit and killed while crossing the street in tempe arizona. the car that hit her was in autonomous mode. uber says it plans to focus on safety and put more efforts on engineering hubs in pittsburgh

been broken in a one billion dollar development project in the city of alameda. today, city and county leaders celebrated the new mixed-use development planned for the former naval air station at alameda point. and as kron four's philippe djegal reports...the project includes affordable housing. kurrasch (kerr-ish) and his wife terrie... a project 25 years in the making, now closer to construction means the world.art kurrasch/neigh bors- "it's absolutely wonderful."terrie kurrasch/neighbors- "phenomenal. i mean, alameda is an island that is basically landlocked and there's this grand opportunity right here." the u-s navy left the former air station on alameda point 20 years ago. in march, the city sold the land for the mixed-use development to a private group of developers -- alameda point partners.bruce dorfman/alameda point partners- "this should be a very special neighborhood, and we've certainly designed that, um, and we're looking forward to executing it." the 68-acre project will include 800 units of housing... with 200 of them being offered at below market rate to alameda unified school district teachers and employees.malia bella/vice mayor- "the rising cost of living, along with the credentialing in education needed to be an educator makes it very difficult for people to sustain living here." and, part of the project will add public transportation. a result of the city's agreement with the developer is to build a ferry terminal in the seaplane lagoon. the plan also calls for

(grant) in the easy bay... bart officials say one of their new cars was vandalized yesterday. this is video of those new cars on friday as they were about to start transporting passengers. now, someone has spray painted one of these new e-bart cars while it was in the antioch

station yard. the tagging was reported around three in the morning. police say the suspect had fled the scene before they arrived. the renewable diesel cars are set to debut on friday afternoon for a ribbon-cutting ceremony with full service starting on saturday. ... (grant) oakland police detained six kids after a car chase yesterday afternoon. the chase started on hawley street in east oakland around four o'clock before officers stopped the car on interstate 980 in west oakland. police say the car was linked to a series of robberies. all six juveniles were taken into custody. officials say the investigation is ongoing. (vicki) in the south bay... police in morgan hill say they've responded to more day time burglaries than usual in the last week. the most recent happened yesterday around 11 a-m. the suspects and the cars they were driving were caught on surveillance video. police are asking for your help in identifying them. investigators say the suspects will park their car in the

area...then walk to the front of a home. they then knock on the door before forcing their way through a door. they have stolen jewelry, cash, firearms, and more. (grant) in the north bay.... santa rosa police arrested a convicted felon in the parking lot of a target last night. it happened at the santa rosa market-place near highway 101. police say lance dickison of arizona was arrested on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm in public. dickison was apparently seen walking around the store with the gun in his clothing. police located a 45 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his possession. (grant) c-h-p officials arrested a rohnert park man last night after he led them on a chase. ryan castro led police through multiple cities before officers laid out a spike strip on 101 to stop his car. castro was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and evading police. officers found an open bottle of alcohol inside his car. castro was booked into sonoma

(grant) breaking news tonight. at least two people have been injured after a tour bus caught fire in san francisco. this happened just before 5 o clock. the tour bus was on columbus avenue near broadway... in the heart of north beach... when the fire broke out. the fire department says two adults have been taken to the hospital. at least one of them had smoke inhalation... both are expected to be ok. the fire department is advising people to avoid the area. (ken) in the east bay. tesla says the autopilot was not engaged when a danville man drove into a castro valley pond earlier this week-- and died. in a statement today-- tesla says it was able

the league's spring at the league's spring meetings in atlanta....the nfl is cracking down on player protests during the national anthem.... the league passed a new policy today to ban players from kneeling during the anthem... it's a controversial subject that started here in the bay area with the 49ers... (pam) and that's where we find kron 4's kim smith .. she is live outside the california theater in san jose .. for second annual " 49ers state of the franchise" event tonight... kim.. were all teams on board with this decision.... roger godell pointed out today that this new anthem policy was a unanimous decision.... but, it's interesting to note that 49ers owner jed york abstained from voting on the policy..york told reporters today at the spring league meetings that the 49ers wants to make sure everything that they do promotes progress... it's no secret -- the national anthem protest started right here with the 49ers with colin kapernick and eric reid who are both still not on an nfl roster.. now according to the new

officials have released the 9-1-1 calls made during a deadly cougar attack in washington state. (ken) ground has officially been broken on a one billion dollar development project in the city of alameda. today, city and county leaders celebrated the new mixed-use development planned for the former naval air station at alameda point. kron four's philippe djegal

reports the project includes affordable housing. (philippe) since last month... twelve buildings sitting on what's called site-a in alameda point have either been prepared for demolition or retrofitting. that's to make way for the 68-acre development coming to the former naval air station. bruce dorman/developer- "it's a longtime in coming." bruce dorfman is the lead for alameda point partners... the group of developers who plan to turn this area into 800 units of housing... 200 of them offered at below market rate to alameda teachers, school employees and low income families. the project also includes 600-thousand square feet of commercial space... 15 acres of parks and open public space... and, 10-million dollars in funding for a new ferry terminal.bruce dorman/developer- "that provides a direct connection to downtown san francisco, and we think that's going to be a game-changer as well, for both, uh, other employers, as well as people that live here at alameda point." and, in addition to housing and retail space... this project is expected to bring 25-hundred construction jobs to this area. jennifer ott/city of alameda- "the city brings the land, the developer brings the money and the expertise, and together, we form a partnership that really maximizes the chances

(pam) with the legalization of adult recreational marijuana, there is a growing concern about the affect it is having on adolscents....... kron4's maureen kelly spoke with a psychologist and addiction specialist .... who is seeing a distrubing trend among some of her young patients who use cannabis.. the majority of them are using cannabis at a variety of levels but the majority of them are using cannabisdr chanda rankin is the chief clinical officer at a teen rehabilation center in the north bay . her biggest concern is that there are a lot of pot strains out there is being cultivated with much higher levels of t-h-c, the psychoactive element in the plant that gets users high. the levels of thc in cannabis today even compare to cannabis 510 years ago and massively different then the thc levels that people were smoking in the 70s and 80s. she says

those elevated levels can have very serious consequences... they're taking ingesting so much more but they're getting sick they're getting nauseous they end up having psychosis or hallucinations they end up in the er they end up in the er in emergency are there passed out from primarily from cannabis maybe some other substances are mixed in there but the problem is that the thc levels are so high there causing the kids to get ill sometimes leaving them to bomb it you can choke on your own vomit the danger is real she says use can have a negitive impact on a teen's developing brain.if you have a predisposition to a mental health have that much thc in your system it's a very high possibility that you can open the door to a significant mental health problem that may not have been opened at that juncture or if ever the likelihood of experiencing anxiety significant depression later have used a fair amount of cannabis as an adolescent so. so in some cases the (pam) new information on what caused the deaths of two whales found in the bay area in recent days. experts say, there's one thing in common with both deaths. we we are hearing from the man injured a few days ago by a flying 'lava bomb' in hawaii... he's one of the many people living near the erupting kilauea volcano...who'd been trying to dodge the chunks of molten rock.. catherine heenan is here with an update on how he's doing.. (catherine) reporters reporters talked to darryl clinton last friday....after spotting him checking two properties - armed only with a hose and a fire extinguisher.. lava bombs were flying into the air and landing only a few feet away. but darryl said he wanted to keep an eye on the homes of two friends.. the very next day after this video was shot -- he says a bowling-ball-sized chunk of lava hit him in the leg... darryl clinton/ injured by lava bomb: the most forceful impact i've ever had on my body in my life and i've been hit by big waves and various things. that was just incredibly powerful and hot.

francisco based ride share company lyft is investing 100- million dollars to open new driver hubs... and keep existing hubs open longer. the company already has hubs in 15 cities, including one in san francisco. under the proposal announced today... 30 more will be added. the operating hours of existing hubs will also increase to up to 70 hours a week. hubs serve as gathering places for drivers that offer vehicle maintenance, coffee, bathrooms, and career support. it looks like reuben foster is in the clear... a judge has ruled that san francisco 49ers linebacker reuben foster will not have to stand trial on domestic violence charges after the accuser recanted her allegations at a preliminary hearing. judge nona klippen said that prosecutors didn't meet the burden of probable cause... that the evidence against foster was insufficient foster was also charged with felony possession of an assault weapon after a rifle was found in his home by investigators... that charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. it looks like foter will rejoin the 49ers... who starting offseason activites this week... tomorrow here is a statement from team general manager john lynch (wipe to fullscreen) "the organization is aware the domestic violence
