outside at the bridge. (lydia) a big story we're following this morning .. two people are dead after a small plane crashes in petaluma. the plane came down right near the airport... the wreackage spread across several lanes of the street... kron 4's hermela aregawi has the story. two people are dead after a plane crashed here on east washington street near adobe road. witnesses describe hearing unusual noises and the plane flying low.micah combs/witnessyou look up in the air right now, you can hear one as it was going by. so many planes because the airport is right there. you just constantly keep going back and forth and i could tell by that one sound that was not right.dominic borgo/witness "we were kind of cleaning carts kind of like we are right now. saw a plane kinda take off, go this way. it was a little low. it just didn't sound like a plane should sound. it was like choppy. the motor was kind of choppy just not really fully running, it sounded like. because i'm here most of the days and i see planes fly over me a lot and this one, i just noticed it was a little bit lower than usual." investigators say.. that the pilot attempted to return back to the airport shortly after take off.. but he didn't make it. you could tell that the

pilot definitely knew what he was doing and tried to make an emergency landing. because i could tell something was going on in the air and immediately he was trying to save himself. investigators say they there were no flames or fire.. or any hazardous matrials that spilled from the crash. (hermela aregawi)the faa and ntsb were on site for hours today combing through the scene.. the cause is still under investigaton. reporting live in petaluma. hermela aregawi. kron 4 news. (lydia) firefighters in alameda are investigating a suspicious fire that happened at a preschool center in newark. the fire happened saturday afternoon at the safari kid preschool. the center was closed because it was the weekend. multiple rooms sustained fire and water damage but no one was injuried. (lydia) police are investigating a stabbing that happened in dolores park. this is video from the scene. san francisco police say they responded to calls of a fight at the park on sunday night. when officers arrived the victim appeared to have been injured by a sharp object. the victim was taken to the hospital for non life threatening injuries. police tell us several people have been detained. (lydia) this festive memorial day weekend can turn dangerous when people drink or use drugs...then drive.

already california highway patrol officers in marin county have arrested 4 people for a d-u-i since friday night's maximum enforcement period started... as kron 4's ella sogomonian tells us... one of the people arrested had in an infant in the car. officers with the california highway patrol marin unit are zoned in on dui drivers this holiday weekend...with four arrests made so far...friday night at 8 a woman was arrested after a caller noticed her swerving on highway 101 north by novato with two kids in the car.sot: sgt. andrew barclay, california highway patrol marin// "when the officer contacted the driver he determined she was extremely intoxicated and was arrested for a dui but to further the situation she had an 18-day old baby and an 8 year old child in the car so she was also charged with two felony counts of childhood endangerment."then saturday night at 8:45 a crash was reported just before the golden gate bridge near the robin williams tunnel... when an 18-year-old allegedly impaired by drugs and alcohol flipped over a car with five

passengers between 16 and 21 years old who made laps into seats... he then ran off but was found hiding in bushes. sot: sgt. andrew barclay, california highway patrol marin// "well unbeknownst that driver our place was flying overhead so they established an orbit followed them reported it to us and was taken into custody."around the same time another driver was arrested after an officer spotted their car weaving on the road as passengers threw beer bottles out the window. the maximum enforcement period continues until monday at midnight.if you plan to drink or use drugs don't drive...not this weekend...not ever.in marin county ella sogomonian kron 4 news. (lydia) a heartbreaking discovery in oakland.. two german shepherd puppies found in the trash - neglected and injured. one's foot has been cut off, the other suffered a broken jaw. kron 4's gayle ong has details on their condition and who is helping them.

the 4 month old shepherd sisters were taken to the vet and are being treated for infections and other health issuesit's also unknown if this was abuse or unintentional..photos show the conditions they were found in..under a freeway at 89th avenue and g streetit's been less than 24 hours since they've been rescued..this puppy named friggs is getting her first bath should make a full recovery - her sister freya, not so lucky, she suffered a broken jaw

(lydia) a close call for a bay area woman after she was nearly shot by a paintball. the santa rosa woman was heading northbound on highway 101 in petaluma. kron 4's gabe slate talked to her and has the story. sound from rachel thurow - santa rosa " shocking someone could do this to another person" on thursday just before 2 pm, rachel thurow says she was driving northbound on highway 101 in petaluma...about a mile north of the east washington street exit.... sound from rachel thurow - santa rosa " i heard a loud bang" rachel says a blue paintball came through her open driverside window and splattered inside her car. sound from rachel thurow - santa rosa " i don't know how it didn't hit me in the head" rachel says this blue paint on the inside of her passenger side trunk window is where the blue paintball exploded.sound

(lydia) in the south bay... an argument at a bar led to a man hitting two people with his car...trapping a woman underneath it. it happened saturday morning at the sports page bar and grill in mountain view. police say a man got into an argument with a man and woman while inside the bar. the pair was leaving... and the other man got into his car and ran them over. witnesses flipped the car on its side to save the woman who was trapped underneath. all three people involved were hospitalized... however, there is no word on their current conditions. (lydia) a reminder for bart riders... trains will ánot run between the pleasant hill and concord bart stations today. crews are doing maintenance work on the tracks. bart will run free buses between the two stations... with 20-minute delays expected for passengers. (lydia) starbucks will be closing stores for one day this week. the company will close more than 8- thousand stores átomorrow for racial sensitivity training . this after two black men

were arrested at a philadelphia starbucks last month. the story sparked national outrage and protests with starbucks c-e-o kevin johnson apologizing to the men in person. the company reached a one dollar settlement in exchange for the creation of a 200-thousand program aimed at young entrepreneurs. starbucks now has a new policy that allows anyone to use its restrooms even if they don't buy anything. (lydia) happening now. the lava flow in hawaii...has not stopped. and it has entered the property of a geo-thermal power plant on the big island. officials previously moved 50-thousand gallons of potentially toxic gas offsite. the lava flow in leilani estates...is now covering more than 23-hundred acres, or almost 4-square miles. the crater is producing small bursts of lava and volcanic ash. the lava has already taken out some homes here. the kilauea volcano has been erupting for three weeks. it as destroyed a total of 82 structures, that includes about 37 homes. two men were injured on-board a ship at pier 80. their injuries are not considered life threatening. rescue crews were brought in and both men were taken to a hospital for evaluation. (lydia) a woman's life changed forever -- after she says she was ááápricked by a needle while taking a seat on bart. and now she is demanding answers. kron 4's dan kerman has the story. sotthursday morning linda quan headed to the dublin bart station and boarded a san francisco bound train for work 30 minutes into the ride the san ramon mother of two felt something pierce her behind.sot linda quan/bart passenger stuck with needle 11-20when i felt that i got up and looked at what was poking me and i felt it and didn't know what it was and realized it was s syringe tip.this is the broken tip of the hypodermic needle quan sat on. when she looked under the seat she found even more drug paraphenalia now she wonders why bart isn't doing more to prevent this from happening.sot

(lydia) new this morning... a major tobacco company is pumping millions of dollars into a campaign to get voters to áreject a ban on selling flavored tobacco. it includes menthol cigarettes and vaping liquids with flavors like cotton candy and mango. subtropical storm alberto is churning in the gulf of mexico -- it's gaining strength. and is expected to be a fully-tropical storm this morning. david daniel has more as the storm heads toward land. memorial day weekend spent filling sandbags and preparing for floods...communities along the gulf coast are gearing up for the impact of alberto. katressa wilson / sarasota resident: "i'm just preparing just in case -- i'm a first time homeowner so i'm not sure what to expect..."it's the first named storm of the year -- days before the 2018 hurricane season officially begins.three states have already declared a state of emergency.mississippi, alabama, and florida are ready to take action if and when the storm makes landfall.gov. rick scott / -r- florida: "hopefully we won't have landfall in this state, but

(lydia) former president george h-w bush is back in the hospital. a spokesperson says the 93-year old was taken to a maine facility after experiencing 'low blood pressure and fatigue.' he's expected to stay there for a few days for observation. the hospital stay comes a day after visiting with military veterans. last month, bush was hospitalized for an infection the day after a funeral was held for his wife, barbara bush. (lydia) the indiana science teacher credited with disarming a school shooter is now out of the hospital. 29-year-old jason seaman was shot three times while tackling and stopping the shooter friday. two others were wounded in the shooting. one female student is in critical condition. another student fractured his ankle. the suspected

a waterslide -- that injured a 10-year old boy in dublin -- is open once again. operators of the "wave waterpark" say they're confident that this time around... the slide is safe for children. last year... a 10 year old boy was violently flung off the slide known as the emerald plunge. the child suffered scrapes and bruises... that slide and another called 'the dublin screamer' were both shut down. the parents of the boy who was injured settled a lawsuit with the makers of the waterslide for an undisclosed amount. ( darya ) two people are dead after a small plane crashes in petaluma. the plane came down by the airport shortly after the airport shortly after four p-m. petaluma police say the plane came down on east washington street near old adobe road while trying to land at the airport. investigators say the pilot attempted to return back to the airport after take off. witnesses described hearing unusual noises and seeing the plane fly low. ( james ) this memorial day can turn deadly when people drink or use drugs... and then drive. c-h-p officers in marin county have arrested 4 people for a d-u-i since friday night's maximum enforcement period started. one of the people arrested -- a woman who was swerving on highway 101 near novato. she had 2 kids in the car with her... an 18-day old baby and an 8 year old child. along with d-u-i... she was also charged with 2 felony counts of child endangerment. the maximum enforcement period ends tonight at midnight. the sports page bar and grill in mountain view. police say a man got into an argument with a man and woman while inside the bar. the pair was leaving... and the other man got into his car and ran them over. witnesses flipped the car on its side to save the woman who was trapped underneath. all three people involved were hospitalized... however, there is no word on their current conditions. ( darya ) a waterslide -- that injured a 10-year old boy in dublin -- is open once again. operators of the "wave waterpark" say they're confident that this time around... the slide is safe for children. last year... a 10 year old boy was violently flung off the slide known as the emerald plunge. the child suffered scrapes and bruises... that slide and another called 'the dublin screamer' were both shut down. the parents of the boy who was injured settled a lawsuit with the makers of the waterslide for an undisclosed amount.
