(lydia) a big story we're following this morning .. two people are dead after a small plane crashes in petaluma. the plane came down right near the airport... the wreackage spread across several lanes of the street... kron 4's hermela aregawi has the story. two people are dead after a plane crashed here on east washington street near adobe road. witnesses describe hearing unusual noises and the plane flying low.micah combs/witnessyou look up in the air right now, you can hear one as it was going by. so many planes because the airport is right there. you just constantly keep going back and forth and i could tell by that one sound that was not right.dominic borgo/witness "we were kind of cleaning carts kind of like we are right now. saw a plane kinda take off, go this way. it was a little low. it just didn't sound like a plane should sound. it was like choppy. the motor was kind of choppy just not really fully running, it sounded like. because i'm here most of the days and i see planes fly over me a lot and this one, i just noticed it was a little bit lower than usual." investigators say.. that the pilot attempted to return back to the airport shortly after take off.. but he didn't make it. you could tell that the

pilot definitely knew what he was doing and tried to make an emergency landing. because i could tell something was going on in the air and immediately he was trying to save himself. investigators say they there were no flames or fire.. or any hazardous matrials that spilled from the crash. (hermela aregawi)the faa and ntsb were on site for hours today combing through the scene.. the cause is still under investigaton. reporting live in petaluma. hermela aregawi. kron 4 news. (lydia) firefighters in alameda are investigating a suspicious fire that happened at a preschool center in newark. the fire happened saturday afternoon at the safari kid preschool. the center was closed because it was the weekend. multiple rooms sustained fire and water damage but no one was injuried. (lydia) police are investigating a stabbing that happened in dolores park. this is video from the scene. san francisco police say they responded to calls of a fight at the park on sunday night. when officers arrived the victim appeared to have been injured by a sharp object. the victim was taken to the hospital for non life threatening injuries. police tell us several people have been detained. (lydia) this festive memorial day weekend can turn dangerous when people drink or use drugs...then drive.

already california highway patrol officers in marin county have arrested 4 people for a d-u-i since friday night's maximum enforcement period started... as kron 4's ella sogomonian tells us... one of the people arrested had in an infant in the car. officers with the california highway patrol marin unit are zoned in on dui drivers this holiday weekend...with four arrests made so far...friday night at 8 a woman was arrested after a caller noticed her swerving on highway 101 north by novato with two kids in the car.sot: sgt. andrew barclay, california highway patrol marin// "when the officer contacted the driver he determined she was extremely intoxicated and was arrested for a dui but to further the situation she had an 18-day old baby and an 8 year old child in the car so she was also charged with two felony counts of childhood endangerment."then saturday night at 8:45 a crash was reported just before the golden gate bridge near the robin williams tunnel... when an 18-year-old allegedly impaired by drugs and alcohol flipped over a car with five

passengers between 16 and 21 years old who made laps into seats... he then ran off but was found hiding in bushes. sot: sgt. andrew barclay, california highway patrol marin// "well unbeknownst that driver our place was flying overhead so they established an orbit followed them reported it to us and was taken into custody."around the same time another driver was arrested after an officer spotted their car weaving on the road as passengers threw beer bottles out the window. the maximum enforcement period continues until monday at midnight.if you plan to drink or use drugs don't drive...not this weekend...not ever.in marin county ella sogomonian kron 4 news. (lydia) the oakland police department also has a warning. they tweeted these photos after towing multiple cars for being involved in sideshow activity. they say sideshow units are in full force this memorial day. not just other boaters -- but marine patrol units, as well. kron4's michelle kingston jumped on board and watched as they educated and cited boat operators not following the law. (lydia) a close call for a bay area woman after she was nearly shot by a paintball. the santa rosa woman was heading northbound on highway 101 in petaluma. kron 4's gabe slate talked to her and has the story. sound from rachel thurow - santa rosa " shocking someone could do this to another person" on thursday just before 2 pm, rachel thurow says she was driving northbound on highway 101 in petaluma...about a mile north of the east washington street exit.... sound from rachel thurow - santa rosa " i heard a loud bang" rachel says a blue paintball came through her open driverside window and splattered inside her car. sound from rachel thurow - santa rosa " i don't know how it didn't hit me in the head" rachel says this blue paint on the inside of her passenger side trunk window is where the blue paintball exploded.sound

(lydia) in the south bay... an argument at a bar led to a man hitting two people with his car...trapping a woman underneath it. it happened saturday morning at the sports page bar and grill in mountain view. police say a man got into an argument with a man and woman while inside the bar. the pair was leaving... and the other man got into his car and ran them over. witnesses flipped the car on its side to save the woman who was trapped underneath. all three people involved were hospitalized... however, there is no word on their current conditions. (lydia) a reminder for bart riders... trains will ánot run between the pleasant hill and concord bart stations today. crews are doing maintenance work on the tracks. bart will run free buses between the two stations... with 20-minute delays expected for passengers. (lydia) starbucks will be closing stores for one day this week. the company will close more than 8- thousand stores átomorrow for racial sensitivity training . this after two black men

were arrested at a philadelphia starbucks last month. the story sparked national outrage and protests with starbucks c-e-o kevin johnson apologizing to the men in person. the company reached a one dollar settlement in exchange for the creation of a 200-thousand program aimed at young entrepreneurs. starbucks now has a new policy that allows anyone to use its restrooms even if they don't buy anything. (lydia) happening now. the lava flow in hawaii...has not stopped. and it has entered the property of a geo-thermal power plant on the big island. officials previously moved 50-thousand gallons of potentially toxic gas offsite. the lava flow in leilani estates...is now covering more than 23-hundred acres, or almost 4-square miles. the crater is producing small bursts of lava and volcanic ash. the lava has already taken out some homes here. the kilauea volcano has been erupting for three weeks. it as destroyed a total of 82 structures, that includes about 37 homes. (lydia) san francisco firefighters rescued two ship repair workers. it happened on sunday afternoon. the fire department tweeted out these photos from the rescue. officials say the

two men were injured on-board a ship at pier 80. their injuries are not considered life threatening. rescue crews were brought in and both men were taken to a hospital for evaluation. (lydia) a woman's life changed forever -- after she says she was ááápricked by a needle while taking a seat on bart. and now she is demanding answers. kron 4's dan kerman has the story. sotthursday morning linda quan headed to the dublin bart station and boarded a san francisco bound train for work 30 minutes into the ride the san ramon mother of two felt something pierce her behind.sot linda quan/bart passenger stuck with needle 11-20when i felt that i got up and looked at what was poking me and i felt it and didn't know what it was and realized it was s syringe tip.this is the broken tip of the hypodermic needle quan sat on. when she looked under the seat she found even more drug paraphenalia now she wonders why bart isn't doing more to prevent this from happening.sot

(lydia) new this morning... a major tobacco company is pumping millions of dollars into a campaign to get voters to áreject a ban on selling flavored tobacco. it includes menthol cigarettes and vaping liquids with flavors like cotton candy and mango. "r-j reynolds" has

contributed nearly 12-million to the "no on proposition e" campaign. supporters of the prop have raised nearly 3- million dollars.... most of that coming from former new york city mayor michael bloomberg. subtropical storm alberto is churning in the gulf of mexico -- it's gaining strength. and is expected to be a fully-tropical storm this morning. david daniel has more as the storm heads toward land. memorial day weekend spent filling sandbags and preparing for floods...communities along the gulf coast are gearing up for the impact of alberto. katressa wilson / sarasota resident: "i'm just preparing just in case -- i'm a first time homeowner so i'm not sure what to expect..."it's the first named storm of the year -- days before the 2018 hurricane season officially begins.three states have already declared a state of emergency.mississippi, alabama, and florida are ready to take action if and when the storm makes landfall.gov. rick scott / -r- florida: "hopefully we won't have landfall in this state, but

maryland.... overtaking vehicles like they were toy cars, and destroying the area. kali harris/ellicott city resident"there were trees sticking out everywhere and cars standing up straight, wholly upright, everywhere. buildings wiped out, windows gone, inventory from the stores everywhere. it's all wiped out."ellicott city is about twelve miles west of baltimore, in the valley of the patapsco pah-tap-sko river. on sunday the river rose nearly 18-feet within two hours...reaching a record high of just over 24-feet.mos/no name given"i actually know a lot of people that work down here and a lot of them were trapped on, like, the second and third story floors, because they couldn't get out." local officials say this situation rivals a 20-16 flooding that killed two people and left the area severely damaged.gov. larry hogan/r-maryland "it's just devastating because people have their lives tied up in this and went through a heck of a lot and came back and now they're starting all over again and it's pretty devastating."rescue crews are on the scene and residents of

(lydia) former president george h-w bush is back in the hospital. a spokesperson says the 93-year old was taken to a maine facility after experiencing 'low blood pressure and fatigue.' he's expected to stay there for a few days for observation. the hospital stay comes a day after visiting with military veterans. last month, bush was hospitalized for an infection the day after a funeral was held for his wife, barbara bush. (lydia) the indiana science teacher credited with disarming a school shooter is now out of the hospital. 29-year-old jason seaman was shot three times while tackling and stopping the shooter friday. two others were wounded in the shooting. one female student is in critical condition. another student fractured his ankle. the suspected

gunman, also a student, is in custody. the shooting comes a week after 10 people were killed at a school in santa fe, texas. there have been 23 school shootings so far this year (lydia)coming up after the break... students get a field trip they'll never forget. how its meant to inspire them to set their own goals. school teacher in washington d.c. wanted to inspire his students to go to college some day. so, he took his

students along to his graduation ceremony. they sat in the audience wearing graduation caps. as a first generation college student, alejandro dias- granados... also known as mr. dias... wanted to share this experience with his class and inspire them to set their own goals. < "many of them haven't been to a college graduation or a high school graduation as well, so an experience like this, i mean, it's more than just a field trip, it's an experience.">(lydia)(lydia) the students got an extra perk for going to the graduation. they went to the national aquarium in baltimore after the ceremony. (lydia) sesame workshop, the company behind "sesame street," is suing the makers of an upcoming puppet comedy geared toward a more mature crowd. actress melissa mccarthy's "the happytime murders" references the popular kids show in its marketing campaign. sesame workshop argues the film's tagline -- "no sesame. all street" "confuses consumers." the lawsuit claims people may think sesame workshop is associated with it. the suit asks that "the happytime

( darya ) two people are dead after a small plane crashes in petaluma. the plane came down by the airport shortly after four p-m. petaluma police say the plane came down on east washington street near old adobe road while trying to land at the

airport. investigators say the pilot attempted to return back to the airport after take off. witnesses described hearing unusual noises and seeing the plane fly low. ( darya ) investigators say there was no fire or any hazardous materials that spilled from the crash. ( darya ) firefighters in alameda are investigating a suspicious fire that happened at a preschool center in newark. the fire happened saturday afternoon at the safari kid preschool. the center was closed because it was the weekend. multiple rooms sustained fire and water damage but no one was injuried. ( james ) this memorial day can turn deadly when people drink or use drugs... and then drive. c-h-p officers in marin county have arrested 4 people for a d-u-i since friday night's maximum

a waterslide -- that injured a 10-year old boy in dublin -- is open once again. operators of the "wave waterpark" say they're confident that this time around... the slide is safe for children. last year... a 10 year old boy was violently flung off the slide known as the emerald plunge. the child suffered scrapes and bruises... that slide and another called 'the dublin screamer' were both shut down. the parents of the boy who was injured settled a lawsuit with the makers of the waterslide for an undisclosed amount. ( james ) san francisco firefighters rescued two ship repair workers. the fire department tweeted out these photos. officials say the two men were hurt onboard a ship at pier 80 yesterday afternoon. the workers will be okay. ( james ) in the east bay ... a popular restaurant is closing it's doors this summer.

"salute e vita" in richmond's marina bay will be closing on july sixth. the owner says she is closing the restaurant because of a landlord-tenant dispute. the immigrant turned business owner says she will be offering free meals on july fifth and sixth in exchange for donations to help her 40 employees who are losing their jobs. ( james ) and in san bruno... the memorial day observance at golden gate national cemetery is happening at 10:30. over the weekend... thousands attended a flag ceremony at the cemetery. boy and girl scout troops decorated the graves of fallen soliders. more than 110-thousand people are buried at the golden gate national cemetery. ( darya ) two people are dead after a small plane crashes in petaluma. the plane came down by the airport shortly after the airport shortly after four p-m. petaluma police say the plane came down on east washington street near old adobe road while trying to land at the airport. investigators say the pilot attempted to return back to the airport after take off. witnesses described hearing unusual noises and seeing the plane fly low. ( darya ) investigators say there

was no fire or any hazardous materials that spilled from the crash. ( darya ) firefighters in alameda are investigating a suspicious fire that happened at a preschool center in newark. the fire happened saturday afternoon at the safari kid preschool. the center was closed because it was the weekend. multiple rooms sustained fire and water damage but no one was injuried. ( james ) this memorial day can turn deadly when people drink or use drugs... and then drive. c-h-p officers in marin county have arrested 4 people for a d-u-i since friday night's maximum enforcement period started. one of the people arrested -- a woman who was swerving on highway 101 near novato. she had 2 kids in the car with her... an 18-day old baby and an 8 year old child. along with d-u-i... she was also charged with 2 felony counts of child endangerment. the maximum enforcement period ends tonight at midnight. ( james ) the oakland police department is out with a warning. they tweeted these photos... after towing

declaration day. it became a federal holiday after the civil war to honor the union and confederate dead.here's what to expect here today the flag raising ceremony starts at 9:30. that is followed by the grand march - which is a community event with veterans, families and military dignitaries. lt. governor gavin newsom plans to attend the ceremony today. then at noon, there is a community picnic on the main parade ground. boats from multiple agencies were out in full force for memorial day weekend in discovery bay. boaters were pulled over for not having their registration... not having enough life jackets onboard... and for speeding through no wake zones. officers told us they trying to keep the waters safe for everyone.

joel barrera at the petaluma wetlands preservation park. a witness called police... saying barrera was unconscious in a parked car. officers say barrera appeared to be drunk. they then found a semi-automatic glock handgun... along with a loaded magazine. barrera was also charged with d-u-i. ( darya ) starting today... fremont police will begin two-week targeted parking enforcement throughout the city. the department will focus on expired registration tags... cars blocking fire hydrants... or parking in a no stopping zone. fines will start at 63 dollars but can go up to 3- hundred dollars for the third violation. ( james ) happening today... the possible redevelopment of the alameda marina will be the topic of discussion at a city meeting. the alameda planning board will consider turning the area into a modern dockyard. the project will include over 7-hundred housing units...commercial space... and upgraded piers. officials say they are hoping to repair the marina into a

working waterfront that can accommodate boaters. ( james ) in the east bay... a drop-off box will be available for voters in downtown berkeley. the box is in front of the martin luther king junior civic center buiding... about a block away from the downtown berkeley bart station. voters have to submit their ballots to the drop-off by election day, june 5th. ( james ) a reminder for bart riders... trains will ánot run between the pleasant hill and concord bart stations today. crews are doing maintenance work on the tracks. bart will run free buses between the two stations... with 20-minute delays expected for passengers. ( darya ) happening tonight... it is game 7 of the western conference finals between the warriors and trhe houston rockets.( james ) the winner will get to take on the cleveland cavaliers in the n-b-a finals.

riding bart ... after a woman says she was pricked by a needle while taking a seat. now she is demanding answers. kron 4's dan kerman has the story. thursday morning linda quan headed to the dublin bart station and boarded a san francisco bound train for work 30 minutes into the ride the san ramon mother of two felt something pierce her behind.sot linda quan/bart passenger stuck with needle 11-20when i felt that i got up and looked at what was poking me and i felt it and didn't know what it was and realized it was s syringe tip.this is the broken tip of the hypodermic needle quan sat on. when she looked under the seat she found even more drug

paraphenalia now she wonders why bart isn't doing more to prevent this from happening.sot it's peoples live and people safety and one puncture like that could change the rest of my life if i am infected.sot chris filippi/bart spokesperson 46-56anecdotally police say they have reports similar to this once or twice a month as far as we are concerned that is once or twice a month too many this is a serious and this is something bart needs to address and is addressing with the resources that we havebart says they've hired more police officers, they're redploying train cleaners so bart cars get cleaned more often and are working with police to address the homeless issue sotthey are not doing enough of this would not have happened.after reporting the incident to the train operator and to bart police quan was tested for hiv and hepatitis. now she's on a month supply of drugs to prevent contracting hiv, she's getting the hepatitis vaccine, and she must get her blood tested every 3 months for the next year and half just in case she was infected with something from that needlesot i'm really worried, i worried all day today and yesterday and i will probably be worried for the next 18 months 141/18 months

( james ) a heartbreaking find in oakland. two german shepherd puppies were found in a pile of trash - neglected and injured. the 4-month-old shepherd sisters were found over the weekend under a freeway at 89th avenue and g street. they have been taken in by rocket dog rescue ... and are being treated at the vet. one dog's foot had been cut off... and the other's jaw was broken ... and she is fighting for her life. < she hasn't been able to eat or drink anybody because she's skin and bones. you can tell she's in shock, she's in pain." "this case left me shaken, it was terrible. horrific actually.">( james )( james )

the other dog is expected to make a full recovery ... and is waiting to be adopted. if you would like to help in any way, contact rocket dog rescue. ( darya ) new this morning... a major tobacco company is pumping millions of dollars into a campaign to get voters to áreject a ban on selling flavored tobacco. it includes menthol cigarettes and vaping liquids with flavors like cotton candy and mango. "r-j reynolds" has contributed nearly 12-million to the "no on proposition e" campaign. supporters of the prop have raised nearly 3- million dollars.... most of that coming from former new york city mayor michael bloomberg. ( darya ) outside lands is enforcing a new "clear bag" policy... that includes backpacks and totes. but small clutches and fanny packs do ánot have to be see-thru. outside lands organizers say

many festivals have adopted the clear bag policy because it reduces time for security checks and enhances safety. the festival starts august 10th in golden gate park. ( james ) lava now covers more than 23-acres of land on hawaii's big island. lava has also entered the property of a geo- thermal power plant on the big island. but officials had already moved 50-thousand gallons of potentially toxic gas offsite. meanwhile... a crater is producing small bursts of lava and volcanic ash. (lydia)the city of berkeley has posted a warning that if those living in their vehicles in the marina do not move them by this morning, monday, may 28, they will be towed, fined and impounded. most of those living in vehicles down at the marina have been evicted from their housing in berkeley or surrounding cities and/or from long-standing, organized homeless encampments such as the albany bulb. today at 5:00 a.m. berkeley vehicular residents at the marina will be joined by allies as they fight the city of berkeley's violation of their rights. they are demanding that the

the sports page bar and grill in mountain view. police say a man got into an argument with a man and woman while inside the bar. the pair was leaving... and the other man got into his car and ran them over. witnesses flipped the car on its side to save the woman who was trapped underneath. all three people involved were hospitalized... however, there is no word on their current conditions. ( darya ) a waterslide -- that injured a 10-year old boy in dublin -- is open once again. operators of the "wave waterpark" say they're confident that this time around... the slide is safe for children. last year... a 10 year old boy was violently flung off the slide known as the emerald plunge. the child suffered scrapes and bruises... that slide and another called 'the dublin screamer' were both shut down. the parents of the boy who was injured settled a lawsuit with the makers of the waterslide for an undisclosed amount. firefighters rescued two ship repair workers. the fire department tweeted out these photos. officials say the two men were hurt onboard a ship at pier 80 yesterday afternoon. the workers will be okay. ( james ) in the east bay ... a popular restaurant is closing it's doors this summer. "salute e vita" in richmond's marina bay will be closing on july sixth. the owner says she is closing the restaurant because of a landlord-tenant dispute. the immigrant turned business owner says she will be offering free meals on july fifth and sixth in exchange for donations to help her 40 employees who are losing their jobs. ( darya )(ááá2 shotááá) san francisco celebrated the 40th year of the carnaval parade in the mission district over the weekend.( james )
