this can help protect people from a dangerous and sophisticated system which is linked to russia.. kron 4's gabe slate explains what the malware does and how to protect yourself. the fbi has issued a public service announcement advising that everyone reboot their internet router the router is the box that pushes out wifi to the devices in your home or office. it's your gateway to the internet and that's why this fbi warning is so serious fbi says they discovered hundreds of thousands of wireless routers and other devices infected by malicious software under the control of a russian hacking group that typically targets government, military and security organizations.the sophisticated malware system is believed to be the same - as the one used to hack in to the democratic national committee -- before the 2016 presidential election..once sitting on someone's router, the malware is capable of
4:11 am
blocking web traffic, collecting information that passes through the router, and it can even shut down a router leaving you without wi-fi.. the fbi has figured out how this malware works and now they are asking for the public's help to defeat it before it spreads and causes real damage. what they want people to do is reboot their internet router the easiest way to do that is to unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it back in in if you have a paper clip or safety pin you can reboot by pressing in the little tiny reset button on the box. the reboot will disrupt malware if it's sitting on your device and at the same time a reboot will help the fbi identify and track infected devices . the fbi is also asking people (robin) the fbi also recommends everyone should update their internet routers firmware.. we have posted some instructions on how to that.... on our tech trends page on kron 4 dot com. (robin) it's been 29 years since the loma prieta earthquake shook the bay area... killing 63 people and injuring thousands more. that 6.9 quake also caused billions of dollars worth of damage in our region. since then, billions more have been spent on preparing for the next big earthquake, which geologists say could happen at anytime. kron 4's charles clifford has the story. san francisco has a 30 year plan to improve the seismic safety of buildings across the city. thousands of homes and businesses have already been

retrofitted but there are many large, old public buildings that are still in use even though they may not be safe after the next big earthquake. the hall of justice along bryant street was built in the 1950's. even though this facility serves a very important role in san francisco, the building is considered to be seismically unsafe.sotthe hall of justice has been a challenging building for us for many many years.brian strong is the director of san francisco's office of resilience and capital planning. he says the city decided years ago to move it's employees out 850 bryant. the police department, medical examiner and several other departments have already relocated and there are plans in the works to move the jail and courts court as well. the new hall of justice might be built on the same spot.sotthe idea is to tear down the hall of justice. . the l building. that will provide land for a new hall of justice to be built.a few blocks away, sits san francisco's animal care and control facility, which handles the city's wayward pets and critters. this building is actually an old warehouse that does not meet

service announcement advising that everyone reboot their internet router the router is the box that pushes out wifi to the devices in your home or office. it's your gateway to the internet and that's why this fbi warning is so serious fbi says they discovered hundreds of thousands of wireless routers and other devices infected by malicious software under the control of a russian hacking group that typically targets government, military and security organizations.the sophisticated malware system is believed to be the same - as the one used to hack in to the democratic national committee -- before the 2016 presidential election..once sitting on someone's router, the malware is capable of blocking web traffic, collecting information that passes through the router, and it can even shut down a router leaving you without wi-fi.. the fbi has figured out how this malware works and now they are asking for the public's help to defeat it before it spreads and causes real damage. what they want people to do is reboot their internet router the easiest way to do that is to unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it
5:19 am
back in in if you have a paper clip or safety pin you can reboot by pressing in the little tiny reset button on the box. the reboot will disrupt malware if it's sitting on your device and at the same time a reboot will help the fbi identify and track infected devices . the fbi is also asking people to change the password that allows you to log into your router. not your wifi password but the password that access the router itself changes.
